There's something that unnerves Rose about his piercing orbs, and the way they dreadfully linger upon her porcelain figure. "Why are you looking at me like that?" The snappish words depart her in the undercurrent of a quavering exhale. "I can't THINK when you're practically BREATHING down my NECK!!!!!" It's a mild exaggeration to be SURE, but an exaggeration it is. "Say whatever is on your mind." She turns her wide-eyed gaze to him.

             ˜”*°•.     Good  thing  that  he  didn’t  have  time  for  love  at  the  moment .  The  world  was ending ,  collapsing,  in  every  given  timeline .  The  end  of  the  human  race  nearing  ever  closer  than  before .  So ,  no .  He  didn’t  have  time  to  even  consider  the  barbarism ,  as  Klaus  claimed,  of  love .  At  least  not  in  the  way  his  brother  meant  it .  He’d  loved  Dolores  indeed,  he  still  loved  her ,  missed  her  more  than  anything  in  the  world .  The  decades  they’d  spent  together,  still  a  sweet  memory  in  his  head .  However,  his  love  for his  siblings  was  greater .  His  need  to  save  them,  however  selfish,  impossible  to  defeat  -  yet  destructive  nonetheless . 

❝ That’s  something  we  can  agree  on . ❞  People  were   disappointing .  The  names  that  made  it  into  the  non-annoying-people  list  possible  to  count  in  one  hand .  Yet,  people  were  people  and  for  the  better  or  worse,  they  couldn’t  do  much  to  change  the  fact .

❝ Well  think  positively.  If  the  others  keep  refusing  to  help,  everyone  is  going  to  die  anyway . ❞   Which  was  an  outcome  he’d  rather  avoid .  It  was  unbelievable  to  think  about it ;  how  the  end  of  world,  literally  the  end,  was  approaching,  and  his  siblings  were  doing  the  most  random  things  they  could  possibly  find .  How  the  heralds  of  death  were  lurking  clear,  yet  none  was  willing  to  make  them  stop .

❝ So,  what  did  he  do ? ❞  Sure,  now  he  was  the  one  wasting  time .  He  was  the  one  not  really  focusing  on  the  task  at hand .  But  well,  maybe  he  could  use  the  time  of  finishing  his  drink  by  talking  to  him .  He  was  there  with  them ,  for  how  long ?  Two  weeks ?  And  he’d  barely  spent  an  hour  with  a  single  one  of  them .

Did he?

For several long, drawn out seconds Klaus sits there, draped over the chaise with his face set in a hard line and his heart in a state of perpetual shell-shock that only seemed to lessen whenever he was in close proximity to someone who'd had it worse than him. Call it selfish, call it insanity, call it whatever the fuck you wanted because it worked and he was going to indulge in it the same way he indulged in anything that made some glimmer of pleasure and hope spring forth eternal in his chest.

Headfirst, screaming GERONIMO.

It didn't really matter much to him what it was or how he'd come by it, just that it made him feel---- something.

Well, almost anything. He didn't want to feel the ides of March. He didn't want to feel the stabbing of the dagger, even if he could survive it physically because he knew he'd never survive it emotionally. He knew every time it carved away a piece of him, bit by bit, that eventually there'd be nothing left at all.

Life was a vulture coming to pick him clean and God was emotionally abusive.

Green eyes slid shut, favoring darkness over the ever-judgmental gaze of his simultaneously older-and-younger sibling.

"People are imperishably disappointing," he began, stating the obvious constant. He seemed to reconsider, eyes opening as he looked over at his brother. "Well- most people. There are some good eggs out there." Then his head lulled backward again and his eyes slid shut with a disgusted groan. "Love isn't just blind, it's-- it's-- unrelentingly barbaric." Slow-falling tears glistened down the sides of each temple, silently picking up bits of dried crimson and streaking it down into his hairline. He wanted to ask about Five's regrets but he already knew them, in bulk and intimately.

She takes another swig, emptying the bottle in long pulls before setting it down. She'd eye the cigarettes and wait for him to offer. When he DOESN'T, she reaches over and PLUCKS IT FROM HIS LIPS, slipping it between hers before holding her hand out for a LIGHT. 

❝ Come on. I'll START IT FOR YOU. ❞

"A gem, huh? No, but.. I kinda like it. Gems're all sparklyyyy an' valuableeee an'-- ey!"

There's a grunt of mock-dissatisfaction when she takes the bottle of wine from him, immediately followed by a somewhat giddy chuckle. He's already more than half gone, and there are still two unopened bottles sitting on the floor beside him.

As she drinks he lays his head back against the leathery sofa, eyes gazing up at the ceiling as if it were a twinkling night sky as two fingers delved into the pocket of his jeans for his zippo and pack of cigarettes.

Fishing them out, he said, "Y'know, Li'... F'it makes ya feel any better.. I don't think yer crazy. At all."

He smiled a little, then immediately turned his gaze to his cigarette pack instead as he plucked one out and placed it between his lips to light it.

they all have their issues. the fucked up upbringing mixed with various terrible life decisions leading to a general distrust in how the others operate or a want to be accepted for their flaws. it didn't mean it would happen or that it was fair. but there was a general sense of guilt that they all carried for how they treated each other. he doesn't have any reason to abandon this conversation yet.

"it doesn't mean you're not wrong, however." he can't say the words but the implication is there. he is sorry. klaus has often been overlooked and deserved better than that.

it does bring up some big questions. the commission acted as the main enforcement of the timeline equilibrium but there had to be others. five wonders if he's killed any of their agents over his career. he'd heard whispers, sure. but nothing specific. "we? i'm the one with the power to rip through time. i'd have to figure out the exact equation to jump us sideways to the correct branch of time, protecting six people from any biological changes like being deaged and avoiding jumping into an apocalypse line. it'd take more time than we have left to calculate."

there's something on the tip of klaus's tongue that feels a lot like an apology. the taste is bitter, and he lifts the glass to his mouth to scatter it away and replace it with the cool sting of whisky. he wants to express how much he, himself, missed when five vanished- mainly his brother and the years they would have had -but he doesn't. he knows if he does the younger-and-older counterpart would blink and he wouldn't have anyone left to talk to aside from the spirits haunting him. if he let them. which was…

ehhh, highly unlikely. he wasn't that desperate for company.

"fair," is his only response to the reminder, and his tone is just flat enough to convey that he means it. vacant of his usual flourish, the vocabulary feels more genuine.

about the rest of it klaus finds himself contemplating, thoughts shifting like moving pictures on a screen behind green, now-somewhat-glassy eyes. his fingertips tingle with the buzz of alcohol, itching for another cigarette. he refrains.

"exactly," klaus says, as though five has just proven his entire point. he looks at five directly now, hand holding the crystal glass but seeming to have forgotten about it momentarily. "the last i checked, the commission isn't the highest in the food chain. there's always someone bigger and badder pulling the strings. someone else who has the tech. so the way i see it we either get ourselves another briefcase, or we find a way to rip a hole in time and space using our bare fuckin' hands, which… sounds sexier than it probably is." he lifts the glass to his lips and takes two large swallows of it before sitting it back down with a gentle clink.
