everyone saying lance is son of poseidon, son of aphrodite, son of appollo.... i hate to say it but you're all wrong. the answer has been right in front of us all along.

Lance is a son of Hermes and I will stand my ground firmly on this one. He's drowned out by his big family, never really the Most Important or The Most Interesting in any team, he's self conscious about not having a Thing, that's like, his whole character arc (assuming vld actually continued his character arc hehe). Kids of Hermes are quick-witted, funny, charming, jack of all trades types. Those (IN MY OPINION) are the defining traits for Lance. PLUSSS like I said, his whole character arc is being the guy who is just kind of good at everything but not GREAT (which obviously is also his greatest strength), he's worried about being forgettable and useless. There's literally no way he could be a child of the big three and still have that self conciousness that is so core to his character. He'd have no need to show off and prove he's cool and important because being a kid of the big three means you're the Main Character by default.

Okay so, it is known that Tyche and Nemesis are rivals of sorts as Tyche is the Goddess of Good Luck and Nemesis the Goddess of Bad Luck

Tyche is obviously Ulla and Nemesis is Donella

Hugo is sort of taken by Nemesis to work for her, he doesn't know but he is actually her son

Hugo has a strong sense of justice and wants to give people what they deserve which is why he helps Donella/Nemesis because he feels he is delivering to people what they deserve with the bad luck

Nemesis then sends him to CHB to hone his skills where she says she will "pretend" to be his Godly Parent (she actually is lol)

He meets Varian, Son of Tyche, basically the opposite of him

Varian is so- nice and- kind, everything seems bright when he's around, unlike Hugo, he makes people feel unsettled, even some of his own cabinmates, besides Caine, they were inseperable, like siblings though Hugo knew they really weren't (The Minor God cabins have been made for this)

Hugo hangs out with Varian though he's not sure why something is just so- warm about him, he can't stay away

Varian is also friends with some other newer campers Nuru, a Daughter of Hecate who often is arguing with Hugo and Yong a Son of Hephaestus with an affinity for fireworks

Hugo feels he doesn't deserve Varian's friendship but Varian won't let him get away that easily now that they're friends!

Hugo then let's Varian know about him not actually being Nemesis' son and how she gave him the power to give bad luck to others, punishing those she deemed needed punishment

Varian said it didn't matter, Hugo was just doing as he thought was right and he couldn't deny that some people are evil, he also understood what it was like doing anything to make a parental figure proud, he explained how- a few years ago he had been trying to help his father and he had an affinity for alchemy, his experiment failed and encased his father, he asked the camp for help but was ignored as they had bigger problems, preparing for a war, eventually his friend Rapunzel was able to help, during the war, Zhan Tiri/Kronos had used Cass as it's host

Hugo then decides he just wants to be able to do what he wants and informs Nemesis he'll no longer be working for her, she then tells him she actually is his mom

Varian was brought to camp by a Satyr named Ruddiger

Also Hugo obviously has an affinity for inventing/engineering and has Olivia!!

Raps arrived to camp and was a child of Apollo, her Satyr guide was Pascal and Eugene had also helped her get there, she constantly hung around Eugene and ended up being friends with Eugene's best friend Lance and his other friend Cass who no one was sure how they became friends, Pascal was Raps' best friend besides from Cass, she knew Pascal for a while before being brought to camp

Raps and Euegene eventually started dating

When Eugene first came to camp he was brought by Maximus, a satyr who was VERY serious about his job, Eugene spent a long time unclaimed and in the Hermes cabin, everyone thought he WAS a Hermes kid with how many tricks he pulled and how much he stole, turned out he was a charming Aphrodite kid, he was best friends with Lance from the Hermes cabin who he often stole with

Even though Eugene was an Aphrodite kid he didn't try to break anyone's heart, though he wasn't sure he believed much in love in general until of course he met Raps

Because he caused so much trouble the Athena cabin constantly had to clean up after him leaving Cass to constantly try to keep him out of trouble, she was very annoyed by this job

Before coming to camp Raps lived with a lady named Gothel who allegedly adopted her after her mother "died", Gothel let her go to school but sheltered her very much still, she was secretly the goddess Nyx, she kept her away from the world until Pascal found her and told Raps the truth, Raps had to fight Nyx and fought her off with her light powers before fleeing with Pascal to camp

Raps has an affinity for each of Apollo's traits given but she's especially good at music as she is wonderful at the arts

Cass had been wondering the woods one day before confronted by Zhan Tiri, a girl who whispered in her ears little tidbits about the Gods, how they never truly cared about their children, Cass felt herself getting consumed, Zhan Tiri was right.. wasn't she? Athena never tried to contact her or anything

Soon enough Kronos' host was ready

super quick note on Mydei based on what we have so far from him & some spoilers about the titan Nikador

this is gonna be an amalgamation of lore and greek/roman analysis so forgive the jump between topics

anyways

Mydeimos seems to be just a conjugation of My with Deimos. Deimos is the greek god of Terror and twin of the god of Fear Phobos. In some iterations he's also the brother of Harmonia the goddess of Harmony. All these children are born from Ares and Aphrodite's union, but only the twins directly assist their father during battle.

this in itself goes along with the depicting of him being a fearsome warrior. his presentation text states that he is destined to suffer a thousand deaths and be bathed in blood towards his path home. we can speculate that this exile from his homeland may be due to the mentioned patricide in the beginning.

patricide in itself is something that's very present in greek mythology, be it for Zeus killing Cronus or Oedipus killing Laius, it's a recurring theme often used to overthrow a previous era and establish a new one. often these killings are destined and divined as warning to the parents who end up trying to trick destiny and ultimately fail. this trick is often either by exiling the son or hiding of the father themselves.

perhaps Mydei is a victim of these circumstances, as he seems to be fated to "become king" thus having to slay the current one. (i mean the text literally says he must slay a god to become one so...)

as for who the king might be. my closest bet is that it'll be his titan itself, Nikador.

and this is where the spoilers begin to those who haven't looked up the titan leaks so if you don't want spoilers leave now

Nikador seems to be the confirmed boss fight in 3.0

Nikador is a junction of Nike (victory) and Doron (gift) (there does other variations like Nikanor which means conqueror and Nikator which means victor). Nike is the goddess of Victory but also of Strife, thus the title of "strife titan" for Nikador

i don't think i need to go too in depth on who Nike was. Goddess of Victory, she's the one who attended to Zeus during the Titanomachy and ensured his victory over Cronus. Nikador's attacks are all related to the goddess with "Conquer or be conquered", "Strife granted fear" and "Savage and Mad God, Incarnation of Strife".

further in game text suggest the titan is undefeated and the true ruler of Castrum Kremnos (while Mydei is it's prince)

Mydei's introduction text suggests that the titan itself also obtained it's title via patricide and honestly, i wouldn't be surprise if this just ends up being a a repeating cycle within Kremnos as Amphoreus is the planet of remembrance (and it's shaped like a mobius stripe STAN LOONA AND YOU'LL KNOW WHY SHIT'S ABOUT TO GO DOWN...)

anyways since this is the first titan we'll be fighting, it'd make sense to have it be the "victor" and protector of the realm. as they would be the first real obstacle before the rest.

the game also suggest that the true successor of Chrysos is Phainon, so it'd make sense to try to solve his true rival as quick as possible. Mydei may end up inheriting the flame of the titan and surrendering it to Phainon, as they don't necessarily need to die, they just need to surrender it. i'm saying this mainly because the leaked light cone suggests that the two of them are close, possibly Phainon gave shelter to the exiled Mydei while he's on his quest to return to Castrum Kremnos (btw Kremnos in itself just means slope, while Castrum is a latin word to designate buildings. mihoyo basically named the land "building on a slope" lmao)

as for the lion. Phobos sometimes is depicted as a lion, and since it's implied that Mydei is the sole surviving heir of Kremnos, it's possible the lion is there in place of the twin.

overall it's kinda funny putting Deimos against Nike cause in some depictions they are siblings (maybe Nike killed Ares in the game who knows!). if the game is following the theme of a repeating cycle, then this would be the equivalent of Heracles (Phainon) trying to overthrow Zeus (whoever is the current leader) but they're calling the gods titans so maybe it's just the Titanomachy but if the gods were titans instead of well, the actual titans.

Nico Rosberg, contrarily, was the son of Lachesis, one of the three Fates. She's in charge of destiny - how long someone lives for, what their lot in life is. Something something brocedes.

Bottas: son of aristaeus. The god of beekeeping, among other things. Now I know what you're gonna say (omgggg beekeeping sebastian) but I just think Val is a kind of jack-of-all-trades; aristaeus was the god of a lot of handicrafts and arts. I think it fits.

Fernando: Apate, god of deceit. Crashgate.

Lance: Plutus, god of wealth and abundance. This is not a dig at Lance - he's just got a rich dad. We love lance in this house.

On rencontre souvent des interprétations de mythes fondées sur une lecture littérale de ce qu'on y trouve. Une première lecture y conduit inévitablement. Cependant, les mythes des différentes traditions sapientielles présentent plusieurs niveaux d'interprétation, chacun étant adapté au type d'homme qui y accède. À titre d'exemple, nous avons, comme l'expliquent les Eddas, l'épisode entre Sigmund et Odin, avec l'intervention du dieu pour faciliter la mort du héros. Nous ne devrions pas, à cet égard, faire des réflexions qui relèvent d'un plan différent de celui que nous devrions appliquer aux influences que la déesse Freya aurait pu avoir sur les décisions d'Odin… et ce plan devrait être métaphysique, et non humain.

Au-delà des commentaires profanes sur les prétendues « faiblesse » d'un dieu qui écouterait sa femme, nous devons nous élever à un niveau d'interprétation ésotérique. Importance of Terminology

There are a lot of different terms in the Vampyre Community. Some are House or Order specific and some are more general. Some are older and seem silly ("twoofing") while others walk the line of cultural appropriation ("Ronin", "Tantric"), and some are useful descriptors of feeding styles ("sanguivore", "med sang", "eros", "psychic"). Some also denote different stages in the Vampyre's evolution or ways in which they go about life ("Dayside", "Nightside", "Twilight").

These terms are good to know as some still adhere to the language as it is an ingrained part of Vampyre Culture, and some can be updated as our understanding of cultures, language, and practices change. As an example, the werewolf, vampire, demon, and witch were all lumped together under the titles of 'satanic' and 'Devil's Children.' While I consider myself to be a child of the Great Ol' Devil, I know not others feel the same.

In the modern era of Vampyre Culture, Satanism, and Witchcraft, not all these subcultures are mutually inclusive. Neither are they mutual exclusive. Many Vampyres are witches and Satanists, and some witches and Satanists may be Vampyres, but they are each unique lifestyles and practices.

Ronin

I've mentioned this in other online spaces about the words Ronin and Tantric Vampire. In Vampyre Culture a Ronin is a solitary vampire, but that is a gross misinformed understanding of what a ronin is. Ronin translates to 'wave-man'. It represents the former samurais freedom as a free lance assassin or itenirant warrior. As a former samurai, they were once part of a clan and not simply a wandering person with a sword.

As the term is used in Vampyre Culture a Ronin is simply a solitary vampire with no connections to any former House, Temple, or Coven. Solitary, even Lone Wolf, would be better as it isn't culturally specific. And why is it the only Japanese word, like Tantric is the only Sanskrit word, while Egyptian is used for just about everything else?

Tantric Vampire

Speaking of the word 'Tantric', it stems from tantra which is a Sanskrit word meaning 'mind-tool' and denotes the path of tantra as one of a deep mystical and spiritual nature and not simply sexual as Vampyre Culture has used it in the past (and some currently).

While tantra does touch on sexual processes, exchange of prana, and working directly with Shakti with a partner, it also has sutras and very non-sexual rituals and meditations. Tantra is closer to an all around ecstatic practice rather than purely sexual.

Some have chosen to omit Tantric Vampire in place for Eros, which I tend to agree with. Eros is of Greek origin and is both a type of love, that of a sexual nature, and the son of Aphrodite. Many Westerners know him as his Roman counterpart Cupid. Eros is also the root for 'erotic' based off of the Greek mythos of Eros.

Ending Notes

I'm not going to get to deep into the Egyptian hodgepodge of Left-Hand Path magic and Vampyre Culture in this article. I will present a history of magical Orders of vampires where Egyptian concepts will be discussed.

Do you have ideas on what the other characters godly parents would be? Hunk with Hephaestus makes sense to me, and I'm a fan of Keith son of Ares (learning to accept his godly dad could match with his arc about accepting he's part galra, a supposedly evil/violent side of him, + the anger and fighting skills), but not sure about the others...

hello!!! I'm glad you see the vision hehe. I actually sent many a paragraph to heynhay about this only yesterday. I was firmly on the son of Ares Keith headcanon but then... someone reblogged my post saying Keith son of Zeus (I think it was @pidges-lost-robot and i was like WAAAAIT.

Okay so here's my many many paragraphs explaining headcanons for each. Shiro son of Zeus: Okay so in my head Shiro & Keith are both sons of Zeus but for very different reasons. They're like Thalia vs Jason types. Shiro is a great leader, he's ambitious, he's brave, he's a legend. His dad is so proud. He's been on like 20 quests and absolutely demolished all of them. All the kids in camp know he's So Cool and Talented. He can be hot headed sometimes but ultimately he's really adept at setting aside his feelings for the Greater Good etc. Ideal hero type and ideal son to the big guy upstairs. Keith son of Zeus: Keith is all the bad traits of Zeus (sorry to him). He's got a short temper, he's impulsive, he's closed off. He's a prodigy without meaning to be. Everyone pays attention to him but (despite what Lance thinks) it's because they think he's a freak, he's not a big three kid the way you're Supposed To Be. And he doesn't want to be a leader. This really rubs Zeus the wrong way. Keith would rather disappear into the ranks of his fellow campers than be the star of the show and that goes against everything children of Zeus are supposed to be. His dad definitely refuses to claim him for a long time which makes Keith just some weird really powerful kid who doesn't know who his godly parent is. Luckily Shiro takes him under his wing : )) (too bad Shiro doesn't come back from his latest quest tho, no one knows where he went off to and Chiron doesn't want to send out a quest because if something kept Shiro The Legend from coming back to camp it must be really bad). Hunk son of Aphrodite: ANOTHER ONE I'M FIRM ABOUT. I think Hunk's defining characteristic is his love for his friends. Hunk is always looking for peaceful ways to solve problems, he's always forming relationships with people before doing anything else, he really values giving love to those around him. It also doesn't hurt that he's kind of squeamish and particular about a lot of things, as a lot of Aphrodite's children are. But I really think his greatest strengths are the ways he's able to relate to others. I know a lot of people say Lance is the glue that holds everyone together, but I think it's Hunk. I know the fanon is that Aphrodite's kids are all just big flirts but I think both Selena and Piper are great examples that that's not true, and Hunk would absolutely be their brother. Pidge daughter of Hephaestus: I've seen some people saying Athena for Pidge but that's another one where I just can't get behind it. Pidge is so smart in so many ways but so stupid in others. She's too impulsive and single minded to be a daughter of Athena, imo. Her main love is figuring out how things work, what makes them tick, and using that knowledge to help those she loves. Children of Hephaestus are know to hold grudges, fight for their families, and let's not forget Hephaestus spending literally all of his free time trying to play pranks on the other Gods with his little contraptions like that is all Pidge would do all day long. Plus she befriends a robot and that is who she talks to for the first like 3 episodes of Voltron that is so unbelievably child of Hephaestus energy. Anyway thank u for asking this question I've been thinking on it for days. I am also open to the idea of Shiro being a son of Athena, I think that would suit him well. And also in my head I like to think Keith would potentially just remain unclaimed until he stomped his way to Mount Olympus and forced whoever was his parent to fess up.

This is a squeal to this story. Camp Half-Blood

Lance was angry. He refused to look at the man standing in front of him. he was sure if Keith was around, he’d be frowning at Lance for the abundance of emotions he was giving off.

“I need you to do this for me.”

Lance glared up at the man. His dad. Hades. He never wanted anything to do with him. anytime spent down at in the Underworld was spent with the only person there he liked, Persephone and his personal hellhound Kosmo. His life had been turned upside down when he found out Hades was his dad. Any friends he made at Camp Half-Blood turned their back on him. Keith was his only friend right now, and granted he only started talking to him because Lance’s bad emotions started messing with him. he was lucky he stuck around after that, but still. Hades had been nothing but trouble so when he appeared on the one night Keith convinced him to stay for the bonfire, Lance’s mood crashed.

“I don’t need to do shit for you. If you’ve got a few loose hellhounds, how is that my problem. Obviously, you can’t do your job properly.”

Hades’ narrowed his eyes at his son. “How dare you.”

“Fuck off and leave me alone.” Not able to take anymore, Lance got up and stormed out of Coran’s office, his mind only on getting back to his cabin.

Waiting by the door with Kosmo was Keith, who met Lance halfway.

“I’m sorry.” Lance said.

“What for?”

“My emotions.”

“Lance, that’s the last thing on my mind right now. Your dad showed up out of nowhere, I get why your emotions are a mess right now. What did he want?”

“Some of his hellhounds got loose and he wants me to go get them. I’m not his errand boy and if he can’t control them it’s not my problem.” Lance said, going and opening the door to his cabin. He shuffled to his bed and flopped on it, listening to Keith come closer.

“How did they get loose? I thought they generally stayed in the Underworld.”

“Apparently Demeter came to see Persephone and they got into their usual argument about her marriage to Hades but it got out of hand and they took off.”

“Um, Lance?” he pulled up his face to see Keith look concerned. “Aren’t hellhounds usually bad to be around, like they might go and attack people.”

“Uhh, maybe? They like me.”

“Ok look, I get that you don’t want to give into your dad, but a lot of half-bloods are scared of hellhounds. And if I know anything about dogs, they attack if they smell fear.” Keith pointed out.

“Ugg, and if they hurt half-bloods, I’ll get blamed for it.”

“Oh, yeah and that. I know this is something he should take care of, but if you take care of it, you can hold it over his head. And besides, if you accept the quest, you can take those you feel is worthy.”

“Is that your way of offering to come with me?” Lance asked, with a smirk.

“Hey, you can take care of the hellhounds and I can get info from anyone if needed. Besides, someone needs to watch your back.” Keith said, sharing a smile with Lance.

“Fine. I guess I should go tell him I’ll do it. Thank you for offering to come with me.”

“Of course. Do you want me to come with you?”

Lance shook his head, “It won’t take long. Besides, I need to go see the Oracle after anyway.”

“Alright, I’ll be here then.”

Lance left the cabin, his mood lighter. Keith had a way of doing that. He remembered when Keith came to talk to him the first time. He’d been very clear on why he was there but he still stuck around after. He was always ready to fight anyone that gave him a bad look and he made Lance feel normal. Part of him knew that he had gained feelings for Keith but he didn’t want to go and push at it in case it turned out badly. He didn’t want to lose Keith in his life.

He found his father ready to storm out of the Big House when he stopped at the sight of his son. “I’ll do, only because you can’t control your pets and it’ll just be bad for the rest of us.” With that, he walked past his father and went of the stairs to the attic, where the current host of the Oracle was already waiting for him. their eyes turned white and they spoke.

“You will go to a doorway hidden in trees. Avoid the claws of the beast. When all is returned, an answer to a question shall be earned. To not take this opportunity will result in a lost chance. The one important will never give you a glance. Protect him from the beast and return the luckiest.”

Lance watched their head fall forward and blink past the mist. Lance was confused because he was sure that he was also given him relationship advice?

“Is it time for dinner?” the Oracle host asked, seeming tired.

“You missed it but I’ll tell Coran to get you something. Get some rest.”

“Tell him to let Adam know I’ll be asleep up here.” They said, getting off their stool and dropping down onto a nearby blanket covered mattress.

Lance left them to get rest while he went over the prophecy over in his head. Doorway hidden in the trees was obviously the Doorway of Orpheus, a way the man known as Orpheus took when he went to bring his wife back. That meant they had to go to New York, Central Park to be more exact. Avoid the claws of the beast, meaning the hellhounds won’t go back easily. An answer to a question shall be earned? To not take the opportunity would mean the important one wouldn’t give him a glance? Did that mean, if Lance didn’t take the opportunity to tell Keith how he felt, he’d lose him in the end? Great, no pressure. He knew that prophecies had double meanings but this one seemed pretty straight forward.

He met Keith on his way back to his cabin.

“It’s really late and I need to pack for tomorrow. When are we leaving?”

“Early, sooner we can round them up, the better. It’s gonna be a hard.”

“Right, I’ll be by your cabin in the morning.”

“Okay.” Lance didn’t know how he was going to do this.

“Oh what a cute puppy! What’s his name?”

Ok, so originally, they were going to go to New York after breakfast but Keith had gotten into an argument with his siblings over him going with Lance on the quest so Keith came early and Lance decided they should at least get a head start. So using his shadow travel, he got them as close to Central Park but was stopped by his own growling stomach. Hence why he, Keith and Kosmo, who now looked like a poodle of all things to those affected by the Mist.

“Kosmo.”

“Oh he’s so cute. We have pupchinos if you want to get him one.”

“Um, sure. But can it be in the biggest cup you have, he’ll have trouble getting it out.”

“Of course. Be right back pupper.”

When the waitress left, Keith couldn’t help but laugh. “Pupper? Kosmo is anything but.” Kosmo glance up at Keith for the remark but Lance could disagree with that.

“Alright, after we eat, we’ll walk over the Doorway of Orpheus. That’s where the Oracle said they’d be. They also said it would be dangerous but they’re hellhounds so not that surprising.”

“What else did they say?” Keith asked, picking up his panini.

Lance was going to start on his French toast but stopped when he remembered the rest of the prophecy. He had to tell Keith how he felt or risk losing him forever. He wanted to say that Keith wouldn’t leave him but he didn’t know if that was true. What if he didn’t take the chance and then something happened that made Keith see him differently? It was nerve-wracking to even think about. Not the kind of thoughts he needed before going to try and corral a small group of hellhounds.

“That was it.”

“Really? Last time I went on a quest my prophecy was at least 5 sentences long.”

“Different for everyone I guess.”

They finished their food, where Keith used his allure like charmspeak to get the food for free.

“You scare me sometimes.”

Once they were near the entrance closest to where the Doorway was, Lance put his palm on the grass and focused. As a child of Hades, he could sense death and hellhounds carried around a particular feeling of death. “Not counting Kosmo, there are 6 of them. They’re all by the Doorway thankfully but we wait any longer they can go out and search for prey.”

“How do we get them back to the Underworld.”

“Hellhounds can shadow travel so I have to open a separate door to the Underworld. I’ll be really drained by the end of the fight so I trust you to have my back ok?”

“Got it. Let’s go.”

When they got near the Doorway, Kosmo started to growl low in his throat.

“Be ready.” Lance said.

Keith pulled a dagger from his belt, that grew to a sword while Lance summoned his own sword from his shadow. They slowly walked forward when three figures burst out from tree shadows. Kosmo went a took one of the hellhounds down, while Lance and Keith got the attention of their own. Keith kept the hellhound away from him with his sword. When it jumped out at him, he let his finger brush over the dove engraving on the hilt, letting the blade glow pink before hitting the hellhound in the face. It shook its head, still growling at Keith when he ordered it to lay down and it obeyed. Aphrodite might not have been happy her son liked to fight but at least she made sure he was protected. The dove released a magic similar to charmspeak.

Lance used his shadow to create a shield to block his own hellhound and summoned an opening to the Underworld to swallow Keith’s hellhound and his struggling own. Kosmo had pinned down his own opponent, letting Lance pull it down to the Underworld as well.

“That wasn’t too hard.” Keith pointed out, watching Lance take deep breaths. He could already feel the effects of summoning 3 openings one right after the other.

He slowly got to his feet, taking slow breaths. “We still have the other ones to worry about. We should let our guard down.”

“Right. Will you be ok?”

“Yeah, I’ll be fine. let’s go.”

They reached where the Doorway sat and saw the other hellhounds surrounding the door. They looked like they were in a less good mood than the others.

“They’re gonna catch our scent. Be ready.” Lance instructed.

Sure enough, the hellhounds started growling when they realised they had company. Lance used the shadows to create another shield and once they were stopped, Keith attacked with his sword. One swiped at Keith, Lance pulling him out of the way. He heard Keith let out a pained cry as he put his palm to the ground and summoned another opening, pulling the last of them back to the Underworld. When they were gone, he felt his whole world tilt as it started going dark around the edges.

“Lance!” Lance blinked slowly, seeing Keith lean over him. he didn’t even realise he’d collapsed on the floor. He felt so weak. “Lance, answer me. Are you ok?”

“Tired.”

He felt Keith pull him up and whistle for Kosmo. He felt Kosmo’s fur under his hands as Keith got him on his back and felt himself lean back, leaning on what he could assume was Keith’s chest.

“Kosmo, get us back to Camp Half-Blood.” Keith ordered the hellhound.

Lance felt Kosmo moving and then the familiar feeling of shadow travelling before the sounds of New York were replaced with the quietness of Camp Half-Blood. He let Keith pull him off Kosmo’s back and then stumble to his cabin. Even the fairylights in his cabin felt to bright to his eyes as he finally collapsed on the bed. He heard Keith rummaging and the light dimmed behind Lance’s closed eyes.

“I turned off the lights, are you ok?”

Lance opened his eyes and looked at Keith, the blue fire from the fireplace allowing Lance to look at him.

“I’m dizzy, my head hurts and I feel really weak.”

“Does this always happen?”

“When I overuse my powers. Are you ok?”

“Just a minor scratch, you pulled me away in time.”

Lance could just make out the scratches on his arm. They were thin and seemed to of stopped bleeding but they were long. Disregarding how weak he felt, he put his hand on the wound and allowed himself to heal it.

“Wait, Lance stop!” Keith pulled his arm away and Lance could see it was mostly healed. “You just opened 4 portals to the Underworld, don’t waste more energy trying to heal me. I’ll be fine. everything’s ok now.”

Lance slowly blinked at Keith. Things were ok now, which meant…

Lance had to tell Keith how he felt or he could lose him forever. He didn’t want to lose Keith.

“We should tell Hades his hellhounds are returned. Do you have a fountain or something so we can Iris call him?”

“You can’t Iris call in the Underworld.” Lance pointed out, smiling to himself that Keith didn’t realise that.

“Because there’s no sun in the Underworld for rainbows to appear. Ok fine. you get some rest and on my way to the infirmary, I’ll go tell Coran we succeeded ok?” Keith said, about to get up when Lance stopped him.

“I need to tell you something. It can’t wait.”

“Lance, you look like your about to pass out.”

“I know, but I have to. It’s part of the prophecy.”

Keith looked confused. “I thought you said that the prophecy was only 2 lines.”

“I lied. Trust me, if you heard the whole thing you’d understand. But I don’t want to lose you.”

“You’re not going to lose me. What is it?”

“I like you. Like really like you. But I couldn’t say anything because I didn’t want to lose you but they said I would if I didn’t say anything.”

Lance felt himself get even more sleepy as he watched a smile come on Keith’s face. He felt a soft hand brush at his hair.

“Hey, I’m not going anywhere. I’m not sure if you’ll remember this when you wake up, but I like you too.”

“Oh, ok.” Lance felt happy at that admition but his tiredness was winning out.

“Go to sleep Lance. I’ll be here when you wake up. I promise.”

Lance let his eyes slid shut as he heard Keith get up. He stopped not long after.

“The flower crown, you kept it?”

“Persephone kept it alive for me.” Was all Lance said before he drifted off.

Anon: There is a theory about apples is being discussed on twitter. Because we see red apples again and it's Daryl and Carol again. And the camera is clearly aimed at this moment. Does it mean something? Can it be symbolism or is it wishful thinking?

MT: Shots like that are always intentional and apples have been cropping up quite frequently. As for what it means, I think it’s open to interpretation.

Like MT says, the shots are intentional and a way to draw attention to the subtext. (It's not only for high-brow novels or artsy films with subtitles :P) Good speculative fiction—whether it's books, film or TV—offers social commentary, that's what the genre is for: a safe environment to criticize or theorize. As post-apocalyptic horror, TWD is set up to comment on the human condition and it has conscious thematic arcs in its first three and last three seasons.

So where does that leave us with the apples? lol

Well, what's the title of the episode? "A New Deal," like the programs (public work projects, financial reforms and various regulations) that FDR enacted during the Great Depression. It was a huge economic crisis with massive poverty and social instability. The GNP fell to nearly half and an alarming percentage of people lost their jobs.

There was one thing, though, of which there was a surplus. Apples. Look at city pictures from the 1930s and you'll see apple vendors. It was an organized effort to get rid of a bumper crop, give unemployed men a means to support their families and for households with next to no purchasing power to buy something that would put food in their bellies. Apples were a symbol of hope during those dark times.

The Apple of Eden: not only the forbidden fruit, but also a symbol of knowledge. The Medieval church (its clergy) curated power much like the CW by keeping people illiterate and ignorant, believing that good things would come (on Judgment Day) if they worked hard in this life and accepted their station at the bottom of the hierarchy. (Like the lottery in the CW) The story of Adam and Eve being cast out because they rebelled is a cautionary tale of what happens when you rise up against establishment.

Over to the Apple of Discord (Greek goddess): She wasn't invited to a wedding, but tossed an apple with the inscription "to the fairest one," into the reception. Hera, Athena and Aphrodite all wanted it. Paris of Troy was judging, but Aphrodite offered a bribe in the form of Helen of Sparta, the most beautiful woman in the world. Paris took Helen back to Troy and that was the battle cry for the Trojan War.

The red apple is usually a symbol of love, fruitfulness or renewal. The color is associated with passion and in East Asia, red is for good luck. Traditional marriage dress in many Asian countries is red.

Other examples of apples (and food for thought):

Isaac Newton formulated his gravitational theory from observing how an apple only falls downward from a tree branch.

During WWI, the Allies' anti-tank grenade (bulb-like on a stick) was colloquially known as a "toffee apple."

The legend of William Tell (Swiss folk hero and crossbow man) has him redeem himself, after showing defiance to the authorities, by shooting an apple off his son's head in a single attempt.

Literary symbols say something universal about a work. The apples are not only about Caryl—look at how Lance Hornsby bites into that shiny candy apple like he's Snow White—but alongside the larger context, it does comment on Caryl too. Their conflict this season is a smaller, more personal foil for the larger friction with the CW.

Not completely non sequitur to symbolism or foils, I'm going to drop this one for all Hornsby fans to think about:

the quirky costuming choices made for the character, how vain and petty he is, the complete lack of moral compass and the grudges he holds, how he enjoys the cruelty and violence of the world, his power hunger and need for recognition.
