Yurts are one of the most important parts of Kyrgyz culture and they are more than just houses. They symbolize family, earth and the universe and cover all stages of life from birth to death. Most of Kyrgyz culture is associated with yurts, from important rituals and ceremonies to handicrafts and traditional crafts. Kyrgyz yurts are made from domed birch branches tied to a trellis that forms vertical walls. The outer side is made of felt and wool, warm water-repellent materials that are easy to repair. The lattice circle in the center of the dome of the yurt forms one of the most important symbols of the family and the Universe - the tundyuk. It is covered by a small piece of felt, which folds back in good weather and is used to ventilate the room; the tunduk is closed in bad weather. Interestingly, the tundyuk is even depicted on the Kyrgyz flag. The design and functionality of the yurt are designed to be comfortable, easy to carry from place to place and serve regardless of the season. There is a hearth in the middle of the yurt, the smoke from which escapes through a hole in the tundyuk. Opposite the entrance, warm blankets are piled up, which are spread on the floor at night. The walls of the yurt are decorated with mats with intricate patterns, shirdaks, embroidery and other decorative felt products. Each item has its own place and special meaning, and the ornaments and designs were inspired by the nature that surrounded the nomads in their daily life. Traditionally, the right side of the yurt was considered feminine - dishes and kitchen utensils, tools for sewing and knitting were kept there. THE DAY OF NEW EXPERIENCES in Karakol ski resort! (Feb 24th, 2020) ⠀ The day was full of new excited moments. ⠀ 🔥 Firstly, @liacane opened her inner strength and found out that she can do more that she had thought! The ski path was quite steep on the top, but she made it easily. What I want to say is the most of our blocks/fears are in our mind only. ⠀ 🪂 Secondly, we decided (very quickly!) to fly on paragliding! That was fantastic! It was my first time paragliding. If you come to Karakol ski resort, it's must do thing! ⠀ ⛷Thirdly, I was skiing for the first time there. Yep! I'm a guide, but never ski before. 😁 Since there were no instructors, I did it somehow by myself. Only one time at ski path for beginners. Lake Son-Kul is located in the very heart of the Inner Tien Shan, 90 km north-west of Naryn. The hollow, 57 km long and 29 km wide, is located inside powerful mountain heaps. In the center of this basin is the second largest lake in Kyrgyzstan - Son-Kul. It is 29 km long and 17 km wide. Its surface is at an altitude of 3016 m above sea level, the area of ​​the mirror is 270 sq. km, maximum depth 13.2 m. The lake is of tectonic origin, filled with fresh water. 18 streams flow into the lake, and only the only river Son-Kul flows out. Only 4 rivers have a constant flow into the lake: Kum-Bel, Ak-Tash, Tash-Tebe and Kara-Keche. The coastal strip has a different character: the northwestern part is indented by rocky bays and bays, and the rest has gentle banks with separate swampy areas. In the river valley - Son-Kul. there are many thermokarst funnels, which were formed as a result of thawing of permafrost located at a depth of 1.5 m. 4 km from the source, the water flow breaks into a rocky gorge with a cascade of waterfalls - Kek-Jerty. The lake freezes in the second half of October, begins to break open from the ice at the end of April. The thickness of the ice in some years reaches 1 m. The fauna is extremely diverse. In summer, various species of ducks, gulls, herons and other waterfowl (66 species) nest here. Due to the harsh climate, the lake was fishless until 1959.
