About Obey Me! apparently not being F2P anymore.

I just wanted to say something about this. Because I’ve seen so much outrage in the fandom especially about their recent anniversary celebration.

Sorry if this might end up being long.

It’s just, so many people cry and complain about the game allegedly not being free to play anymore. But that is where the lie is.

And that’s also what will bring down the game a lot faster. Them constantly getting complaints and feeling like they’ll lose their player base will make them start to milk the game out of the last cent a lot sooner then knowing they have a few more years.

The game is free to play. You download it for free. You play for free. You have to pay nothing and to be honest, if you invest some time you get a lot.

This is a gacha game after all, you also need some luck, but in comparison to a game like Genshin Impact, that a lot of players seemed to have started to pick up as well you get a lot of materials to get the most out of your luck.

I’ve been playing for 432 days and those are all my cards. I haven’t given them a single cent. Did they get a lot of my time? Yes- but I was willing to pay that price.

I’m not trying to show off with that in any way, I just wanted to show that you indeed get a lot. As an F2P.

So it’s a lie saying the game is starting to become Pay to Play. Because it is not.

You don’t have to spend anything if you don’t want to.

Could they have handled the celebrations differently, like letting everyone chose their desired background at the end of the login? Sure- they could’ve done that. But they simply decided not to.

And that is their right as the company paying for the servers you use for free, paying for the artist that do a super good job providing about 14 brand new hand drawn cards per month, plus the voice actors, plus the animations, plus the story writers. That is a lot of work. That’s a new card every two days. They pay for promotions. They pay for all the IT working on the game, programming it, customer support, social media managers. Do you think this is free? Do you think that’s payable with just some advertisement here and there? Fun Fact: It’s not.

Small rant in the rant: A lot of people also make money off of their copyrighted materials and therefore take more income from them. As they would have to pay for usage right to be legally allowed to sell fanart. Just saying :D

How’d you like someone take your character and makes money off of them, not really, am I right? I don’t know why people think it’s okay since it’s a company. Their designers want to have a wage too.

So it is definitely not P2P.

I will however agree that the events are Pay to Win.

And apparently most of you don’t understand the difference of pay to win and pay to play. And listen, there is a big one.

I don’t know why the Obey Me! Fandom seems to think they are entitled to getting every single card that’s been put out there, to find it in their inventory. Like you can even see it and download the art from the Wiki. Heck spend 5 minutes on YouTube and someone uploaded the Devilgram too. The visibility of the Card is not behind a paywall. Is the additional story or animation that cost additional money sometimes behind a pay wall? Yes- and that is ok.

I don’t know if you noticed, but aside from the Lucifer Paws and Claws UR there is not a single Pop Quiz UR in my cards. Not one. And I got Lucifer’s grinding my ass off in Lonely Devil, spending weeks doing my daily battles. Because that card was worth it to me. In the normal events I can max get the Memory SSR, spending all of my savings on nightmare beforehand. I have like two of those. Two of which we got completely free. Leviathans UR was completely free. You realize they could’ve converted the points and taken the card from everyone, which tbh was the move I would’ve done but long term the realized it would make them lose more people and therefore money. Amos UR+ was completely free. Lucifer’s raindrop card I just got in this rerun, spending all of my savings from the past two months or more. Mammons was my guaranteed BDay card. 3 of those completely free so to say. The 14 were all I got with 432 days of playtime. That’s about a card each month. Doesn’t seem that much anymore don’t you think? Also most of the gacha cards I got from after they raised the odds to 3%. That also needs to be mentioned. They did that. 2 are character birthdays. Again with savings and time you got them. All the old cards I got doing that free pull you get every two days. That’s 4 of them as well. Only 8 of them being from limited gachas, in about 1 and a half years of playing.

But especially in gachas you should know that you can’t have everything. I don’t know why people got that impression? I don’t have every card that comes out because I don’t pull on every nightmare. I use the time there is a character I don’t like to save up. And with Obey Me! you can save up a lot.

Bringing up Genshin again: It’s fandom seems to be aware that as a Free to Play you just can’t get every character, and they seem to be fine with it. They save and manage their resources. I’ve been playing since 4 months and I have 2 5 star characters and one 5 star weapon. 2 of those I didn’t want and lost the 50/50. But that’s just how it is. I enjoyed what I got since I only spend my time how it is worth it to me.

I have to admit I had a lot of time to spend on games and if you don’t you won’t get as much, but that’s also normal. OM dailies take about 10 minutes and you get your 18 DP and can work on your cards. That is a lot to save up. And so far I pretty much got every card I wanted as long as it wasn’t an event card. And I could get those too if I invest even more time. I am just simply not willing to.

There is too much to do in this game already for me to keep up. So I really can’t understand what more you could ask for. I am home all day long and I can’t keep up with everything, so why are people complaining about not getting everything? There is so so much to get. Just focus on what you want and don’t turn into miniature Mammon’s that just want everything. And also like: Have you noticed? Most of my cards aren’t even close to being fully leveled. What do you want to do with even more of them? That won’t bring you anywhere?

But anyways I’m losing track of my own rambling where were we?

The fact that people here seem to confuse Pay to Play and Pay to Win, that was actually all I wanted to ramble about.

Manage your resources and you get a lot. If you want an F2P game that has no aspects to generate money? Well go make one. Teach yourself how to do everything, consider how much time you spend on all that before even starting. And then not getting a single cent back.

I also probably forgot half of what I wanted to say again, my body can’t keep up my big brains idk.

wHY IM GLAD YOU ASKED-- I'll hold off on my nagito rant (you a good fren for letting me ramble about a game you haven't even played--) So let's start with the first two.

JAKE ROGERS

OKAYYY I don't know how to feel about Jake Rogers because the game doesn't go that deep into him. I would love more of a backstory on him. I think there was definitely more going on than what we saw. I really would have liked to know more than just "oh yeah he blackmailed a bunch of people and sold drugs and everyone's happy he's dead." So the headcannons about him are A+ but canon Jake is wasted potential if I've ever seen it

COLIN BAXTER

Okay Colin is about as interesting as a dry cracker lmao, HER Interactive did really good on some characters and then some were just so boring. But I would have been interested if it were revealed he was somewhere on the spectrum. To me he totally reminds me of someone with Asperger's (with a special interest in art) but this could just be my interpretation. But just at face value very boring sorry Colin

NAGITO KOMAEDA

ah yes my favorite boy with his body count gotta love him

OKAY LET ME EXPLAIN A FEW THINGS so the reason i marked "deeper than they seem" and "not as deep as they seem" is because you really get to know Nagito by watching extra scenes that are easily accessed in the game but you have to actively look for it. So if you don't look into him you miss the facts that 1) he has so much trauma 2) he has frontotemporal dementia, both of which explain a lot of his actions. So yes deeper than he seems. ON THE OTHER HAND all of the characters assume he's super shady and always planning a murder and such. And yes he is manipulative, but at the same time, sometimes he's just vibing. Like leave him alone he's just saying good morning he's not going to try to kill you.

There's a part in the game where you actually get to play as Nagito (I screamed when this happened I was so happy) and since you play first person POV you get to see some of his thoughts. Here are just a few because I do what I want

OKAY so from the first one, this scene was after he just offended someone and they left. And he can recognize they're upset but he doesn't know why. This is common in patients with frontotemporal dementia; they offend people without meaning to because they're too blunt or say things that typically aren't said because of social rules and such.

SECOND AND THIRD PICTURE basically just prove he really does want to help his classmates. He wants to be useful and wants them to be happy and safe from danger. Even if his motive is always "for the sake of hope" he still genuinely cares about them. Which is why the other characters in the game frustrate me when they outcast him and treated him like a deranged psychopath (they legit tied him up after the first trial and didn't feed him for like a full day) and I get why they hated him after he… you know, tried to kill everyone except the traitor. But before that, he was morally gray and did bad things, but he was trying to do it for a good reason and to accomplish a good thing. And yes, his apathy towards death (whether it be his own death or someone else's) is not great, but first of all, apathy is another symptom of frontotemporal dementia, second of all he's really used to death because people have died in front of him so many times. Including his dog. Which is still tragic af.

Fourth picture is just funny my guy just wants to play on a playground but doesn't anyone mad at him. (He'll go on about how he'd love to die and he's a stepping stone or whatever BUT HE DRAWS THE LINE AT THE SWINGSET)

The fans did Nagito dirty by turning him into an uwu gay boy. It will never not drive me insane. Unless someone is projecting in a fanfic, if Nagito cries for no reason I'm going to throw myself out a window. Though I don't like him being portrayed as a deranged lunatic it's not like he's never done anything wrong either. And he's not super sweet soft fluffy boy.

(also we're not talking about my projecting onto him that's a topic for another day--)

Lastly seriously. Why do he look like that. He's a multimillionaire and is coat looks like it came out of a garbage can. Someone please teach this man how to dress.

Thanks Spencer!! uwu Sorry this took so long! I love this funky druid and I'm curious myself if any of these answers will change as I develop them further and they grow in the campaign~

1. Why did they choose their class(es)? their subclass(es)? When Zarus was young (for a drow), they were taught about nature and other Druidic teachings, which inspired them to actually get out into nature more and be an actual druid themself. Part of the Circle of Dreams, they spent some time in the Feywild, which influenced their magic further.

3. What is their goal right now? They do aim to get back to the Feywild, but Zarus is lackadaisical and drow live a Long time, so despite being presented with a chance to return, they’re like “there’s time for that later~” They’re curious about their friends and have some “souvenirs” to drop off to their friend Cabal first, anyway.

5. Do they follow a higher power? what are their thoughts on divinity? Zarus isn’t really the religious types. The gods exist, certainly, but they’re more connected to the wild, chaotic power of nature than devoting themself to a specific god.

7. Which party member do they understand the least? Defs Caesin atm. They enjoy being in cahoots with him, but are still figuring out his personality and morals.

9. Do they care about their appearance? how much effort do they put into presentation? Zarus cares a fair bit about their appearance – but you couldn’t tell by looking at them. From the outside they seem like the sort of person that put makeup on a couple days ago and is like “eh it’s still good enough” (purely figurative, they haven’t worn makeup in ages). And yet they typically hold themself like they’re dressed in finery, despite the holes in their cheap clothes.

11. What skills are they proficient in? why? Arcana, deception, history, perception, persuasion, and survival. Each has their place in their backstory, but the specifics of why are a mystery :3c

13. What do they dislike about themself? why? He’s the type to be, like… overly positive and hard to ruffle. He also isn’t exactly the most self-reflective. I think he’d have trouble naming anything he dislikes about himself.

15. Do they trust their party? why or why not? Absolutely! :3 I mean they’ve known each other for like a whole day now! (Zarus trusts way too easily)

17. What do they dream about, when their dreams are their own? That’s a good question :3c

19. What haunts them? what doesn’t? Probably more than he knows, or would admit (even to himself).

21. Do they follow their head, their heart, or their body? Well it’s definitely not their head. I’d say a mix of their heart and gut – but they have terrible intuition and danger-sense.

23. How do they feel about nicknames, titles, or labels that have been given to them? how do they feel about their name? They’d be thrilled to be given any of the above! Nicknames mean fondness, titles mean status, and labels can mean community – all of which Zarus wants. They’re very fond of their name, which is one of the reasons they give it a little too readily.

25. What stories do they like to tell? what stories do they like to hear? Zarus is… probably not the best storyteller, struggling to remember parts, and completely making up others. They’ll talk all day about less linear events though, like various plants, storm clouds, etc. And they’re happy to hear almost any story, as long as the person telling it is enthusiastic and isn’t a stuck-up prick.

27. How do they mourn? If he ever knew how to mourn, I think he’s forgotten how. Death is a fleeting and intangible concept to Zarus, and so mourning would be much the same.

29. Who would they save? who would they be saved by? He’d happily save any of his friends, both new and old, and without regard to any potential cost. And so far he’d be saved by Grimshaw, the only person who’s actually stepped in tried to dissuade his recklessness lol

31. They’re given a blank piece of paper–what do they do with it? (answered this one in a previous post~)

33. What makes them cry? …what does make them cry? Again, Zarus is a very cheery individual. Probably something triggering an old, long-forgotten memory, or one of their friends dying and not coming back. They’d also defs be the type to start crying without even realizing it, still smiling, only noticing when they feel they tears streaming down their face, and reach up to touch their cheek in confusion.

35. Which party member do they worry for? Defs Maco. He’s young and seems naïve, so if there’s anyone Zarus would have the sense to actually worry over, it’s him.

37. What is their favorite thing to hold? Ooooh. Probably an old, worn leather-bound book, whether that’s a journal or a published tome. It would bring them a sense of familiarity and comfort.

39. Are their hands calloused, soft, or something else entirely? Their left hand and forearm are covered with burn scars, while their right is surprisingly soft for a druid, not nearly as calloused as you’d expect from someone who travels the wilderness.

41. What are they attracted to in other people? (also answered this one in the previous post~)

43. Why do they fight? I guess… why not? They aren’t exactly into fighting, but they’re definitely capable, so if the situation calls for it they will fight, especially if their companions are. But they don’t exactly fight to protect themself, and would just as readily try to talk their way out of a situation.

45. How do they hug people? Another interesting one! I think it’s been a long time since anyone actually hugged Zarus. Despite being more of an extrovert, they don’t always spend much time around people, and Zarus can be a little… off-putting. I think he’d melt into a hug, eager to share in the rare warmth and companionship – and having no sense of personal boundaries and how long a hug should last or how closely he should wind the other person in his arms or vice versa.

47. When they meet someone, what is the first thing they notice? How kind they are. Do they treat him with kindness, or disdain? Because the latter isn’t going to win that person any brownie points with Zarus, though they may not say it. Anything else – appearance, social standing, scars, etc – that’s all extra, and typically not of concern.

49. What makes them smile? Lots of things. Zarus is smiling, like, 90% of the time, even if it’s a small smile (and probably somewhat unnerving). One of the rare times they’re not smiling is when they’re pondering something. They’re definitely smiling when they’re mad or offended, there’s just more of an edge to it that an observer might not catch.

51. What is the most beautiful thing in the world, for them? Oh wow. I think… life, continuing on uninterrupted. TW for some gory descriptions for this one. ((A bird with a stick fused into it’s wing that still manages to fly, a deer whose antlers are tangled with the head of another, trapped in an endless battle until it sheds its antlers, flowers and fungi sprouting between the bones of a carcass, the decaying corpse of a whale that brings so much new life to the scavengers who feast on it. There’s beauty in death, and in the unstoppable circle of life – and it’s a privilege to them to hold such a special place in it.)) On a more… traditional note, they definitely do like pretty flowers, and thunderstorms.

53. Which is more frightening to them: day or night? Honestly… I think the bright light of day. There’s comfort and familiarity in the darkness, a sense of home. But in the harsh daylight that hurts their eyes, everything is so stark and clear, and deep down it triggers discomfort, of what they should recall but don’t.

55. Whose hand do they reach out for? Currently? Cabal. They’ve helped him to his feet more than once, and he trusts them. It won’t take long for this to apply to his party, as well, but right now Cabal is instinctually the first one he’d reach for. For the party it will probably be Grimshaw first, since he’s been the most protective of Zarus (even if he doesn’t exactly deem it necessary).

57. What makes them angry? Being talked down to certainly grinds his gears. Zarus is actually decently intelligent, but no matter what, being disrespected and treated like he’s beneath someone sparks his anger, especially considering his backstory.

59. What is a quiet passion of theirs? Making flower crowns, and to a lesser extent, origami. They also very much enjoy sketching various flora and recording information about it, but there’s a sense of work to that as well as passion. Also, fashion. They very much enjoy dressing up, they just rarely have reason to.

61. What kind of flower would they choose to pick from a meadow? Literally every flower they could find. They’d either pick none, leaving them to grow, or one of each variety (including colour variations). They are very passionate about flowers and flora, so if they started they wouldn’t be able to resist picking one of each.

63. What fight has scared them the most? They’ve only been in a few fights in-game so far, and it’s very hard to genuinely scare Zarus. There is one from their past that would, but that’s getting into spoiler territory ;)

65. What is holding them back? Their unwillingness to accept that anything is wrong.

67. What makes them laugh? Much the same as smiling, it isn’t difficult to make Zarus laugh. They’re quite cheery, so if someone tells a bad joke or makes a clever quip, they defs laugh at it (even when doing so would be impolite).

69. How would they describe their party members? (aaand I answered this one in the previous post as well, so that’s it!)

Hey dude! Do you have any recommendations for LGBTQ+ movies in the romance genre that have like a happy ending. I really don't care how old they are. I'm feeling the Gay™ hence I need the Gay™. You feel me?

First sorry for taking so long, not only did I have to timeline this :) but :) my computer :) froze :) after writing like :) 2 pages :) and I had to do it again :)

So anyway let it be said, the LGBT dialogue is one of osmosis and shared growth and awareness. Some of these films will be very poorly dated, but as you (thankfully) mentioned that them being old wasn’t a *problem*, expect a lot of old stuff. Because one of the most important things to have under your belt when talking about the LGBT media representation battle is the actual journey from A to B – be that incrementalization, subtextual inclusion, text-breeching features, outright evocative and groundbreaking films at the time (which is what MOST of this list will be) and an improvement in our dialogue; let us never forget that while tr*nss*xual is considered a slur and transgender is proper, tr*nss*xual was at one point the politically correct way to speak it – things like that breach in our growing understanding of the spectrum of human sexuality.

I *WILL* disclaimer these aren’t all romance, so if you explicitly want romance, google them and take a look if it sounds to appeal, but I’m taking this as a general cinema history plug considering what a confused mess fandom conversation about LGBT history in film or modern text as applicable, accepted or not.

Wonder Bar (1936) (I wouldn’t really call this queer cinema, but if you have the time to watch it too, I think it was the first explicit mention of homosexual engagement even if it was fleetingly brief. You might even call it Last Call style. A blink and you’ll miss it plug that was still decades ahead of its time)

Sylvia Scarlet (1936) (Again, I wouldn’t call this queer cinema, but a lot of the community takes it as the first potential trans representation on TV due to the lead literally swapping gender presentation, even if the presentation is… not what we would modernly call representation IMO)

Un Chant d'Amour (1950) (Worth it for the sheer fact that it pissed off fundies so bad they took it all the way to the US supreme court to get it declared obscene.)

The Children’s Hour (1961) (also known as the 1961 lesson to “don’t be a gossipy, outting bitch”)

Victim (1961) (The first english film to use the word “homosexual” and to focus explicitly on gay sexuality. People might look on it disdainfully from modern lenses, but it really helped progress british understanding of homosexuality)

Scorpio Rising (1964) (Lmao this one deadass got taken to court when it pissed people off and California had to rule that it didn’t count as obscene bc it had social value, worth it for the history if nothing else)

Desert Hearts (1985) (Pretty much the first film to put lesbianism into a good light as a true focus based on a novel from the sixties)

Parting Glances (1986) (the only film its creator got out before his death from the aids epidemic)

Law of Desire (1987) (two men and a trans woman in a love triangle, kinda ahead of its time)

Maurice (1987) (This one’s really interesting, cuz it was based on a book made about 15 years before it, but the book itself had been written half a century earlier and wasn’t published until after the guy died, he just thought it’d never get published Cuz Gay, so basically it’s based on a story written in like, the 20s finally getting screen time. It has a bittersweet but positive-leaning-ish ending without disregarding the cost that can come with it and even addresses class issues at the same time 100% DO RECOMMEND)

Tongues Untied (1989) (a documentary to give voices to LGBT black men)

Longtime Companion (1990) (This one’s title alone is history, based on a NYT phrasing for how they talked about people’s partners dying, eg longtime companion, during the AIDS epidemic)

Paris Is Burning (1990) (Drag culture and related sexual and gender identity exploration as it intersected with class issues and other privileges explored in a documentary)

The Crying Game (1992)( I should correct this that I guess it’s more, 1992 considered, “SURPRISE, DIL HAS A DILL!” – I guess I really didn’t do that summary justice by modern language and dialogue as much as how people in the 90s were talking about that and that’s a my bad. LIKE. SEE, EVEN I CAN FUCK UP MY LANGUAGE I’M SORRY CAN I BLAME THE STRAIGHTS T_T) #90skidproblems – I guess I should call it a trans film. And this alone tells me I should go watch it again to recode it in my brain modernly rather than like circa de la 2000 understanding.

The Bird Cage (1996) (So you mix drag culture, otherwise heterosexually connected lovebirds, and then realize the girl comes from an alt-rightish house and the guy comes from a Two Dads Home and does cabaret, how to deal with the issues OF this conflict when it’s between you and your happiness, even if the fight isn’t even your own as much as it is that of the person you love. The answer is PROBABLY NOT to dress in drag and pretend to be straight, but what are you going to do? – while played for laughs we’d consider modernly crude, the fact that they even dared to approach this narrative was pretty loud)

The Celluloid Closet (1996) (Ever heard of the Vito Russo test for LGBT representation? This is based on a book by Vito Russo.)

Happy Together (1997) (Ain’t this shit an ironic name; a mutual narrative, via chinese flick, of hong kong ceding to china and an irrevocably tangled MLM pairing as a giant mirrored metaphor)

Boys Don’t Cry (1999) (one of the most groundbreaking films about trans identity at the time)

Stranger Inside (2001) (As easy as it is to recoil to the idea of “black gays in jail”, the film makers actually went and consulted prisoners and put a great deal of focus into intersectional african american issues that really weren’t around even in straight films at the time)

Transamerica (2005) (While it made a bit of a fuss for not casting an actual trans actor, it was one of the first times a big budget studio really tried to tackle it which really pushed us forward)

Call Me by Your Name (2017) (since I’ve apparently leaned really heavy old cinema throw in a modern one lmaooooo)

Also honorable The Kids Are All Right (2010) mention for the sake of the fucking title alone.

And to any incarnation of “On the Road” by Kerouac, which

Was originally a book

Released a sanitized de-gayed edition because of the times

had a few film adaptations

Was one of Kripke’s founding inspirations for Supernatural once he left behind “Some reporter guy chases stories” and took the formula of Sal and Dean (and tbh later, Carlo) in a beat generation vibe gone modern as we know it today.

Reading both versions of this can actually help some folks currently understand that when you get confused over some shit (WHY IS CARLO SO UPSET? WHY IS HE ACTING LIKE AN UPSET GIRLFRIEND??? WHY IS HE SO JEALOUS AND SAD WHEN DEAN IS AROUND GIRLS???? WE JUST DONT KNOWWWWWWWWWWWWW) it’s because some big money asshat bleached the content, and sometimes, it takes a while for the full script to come out and again, surprise, it’s been GAY, they just didn’t want to OFFEND anybody. *jazz hands*

Now if you wanna go WAY WAY BACK, during 191X years, a bunch of gender role flicks came out like Charley’s Aunt, Mabel’s Blunder and the Florida Enchantment.

Beyond that though I’m gonna stop here cuz hi that’s a lot. I really don’t know how much counts as “happy ending” but if I had to give an LGBT cinema rec list, that’s it as a sum. I don’t really have like, a big portfolio of UWU HAPPY ENDING GAYS because 1. there aren’t a lot of those but 2. to me, it’s not about the ending, it’s about the journey. Be that in flick or through culture and history itself.

If you want more happy ending stuff, you definitely have to look at 2010+, but it’s not like we’re in a rich and fertile landscape yet so honestly just googling that would probably serve you better since I don’t explicitly explore romance genre or happy endings to really have a collection. LGBT life is hard and film often reflects that if we’re making genuine statements about it and really representing it, and we’re just now getting to a point of reliably having the chance at a happy ending. That or maybe someone can add like “Explicit happy endings” lists after this that has more experience in that subgenre.

Also, I can’t emphasize ENOUGH to remember what was progressive then is not what is progressive now, and frankly, what some people think is progressive now they’ll probably look back on what they said and feel really fuckin’ embarrassed. See: “It’s not text because by alt right homophobic dialogue, M/M sex isn’t gay if you do the secret handshake” MGTOW kinda crazy ass dialogue or parallel narratives they inspire that encourage self-closeting and denial based on the pure idea that being gay makes you somehow lesser, so It’s Not That. Like. I am. 99% sure. At least half of the people talking in this fandom. Are going to regret that the internet is forever. And maybe hope hosting servers end in the inevitable nuclear war that will annihilate this planet.

Also, edit: Speaking of mistaken dialogues and words aging poorly, I’d like to apologize from the poor description I rendered “The Crying Game” with, but that really goes to show how deep-seated the issue is we can so casually fuck up identifying a trans narrative as SURPRISE DICK IS GAY when we were all absorbing the content like 20+ years ago and HOW HARD it can be to de-code yourself from that kind of programming because here I am, writing a giant assed rep post and fucking it up because my brain hadn’t soaked that movie since Y2K. + notes :: inspired by my own haunting experiences with night class these past two semesters and my need for want for more college moongi :((

The whole appeal of torturing yourself through three hours of night class is that you get to knock everything out in one session. No multiple sections during the week—just one and done.

It’s not as bad as it sounds. Your professor is brilliant, actually entertaining, and does her best to keep the class engaged—she’s funny in that awkward, geek, professor kind of way. And she gives you short, five to ten minute breaks at every hour mark to make sure everyone doesn’t completely lose their minds.

Not to mention, you have Jimin in this class too, so at least you’re not suffering alone.

Going to this class is certainly a commitment, but in the past few weeks, you’ve learned to actually enjoy it. So long as you come to class on time, prepared, and with—

“Fuck,” you curse, watching Jimin pull out one of his many, tiny boxed juices. The ones meant for children that he and Taehyung claim are packed with more nutrients.

“What?” he asks, expression more shocked than concerned as he sets the juice in the right corner of his table.

“I forgot to bring snacks,” you pout.

Come on time, be prepared, and bring snacks. Those were the only three rules of night class, and you’d completely forgotten about the last one.

“Sounds like a you problem,” the blond grins, taunting his chocolate bar in front of you.

You reach and grab a piece, stuffing part of it into your mouth to spite him, but regretting your choices as soon as the chocolate melts on your tongue.

“What the fuck—is this mint chocolate?”

“Yes it is,” Jimin huffs, snatching the remaining stolen bit out of your fingers and popping it into his mouth, “And it is delicious.”

“You’re a demon.”

“A demon with snacks for the next three hours.”

The comment makes you groan again. Class didn’t officially start for another eleven minutes. You could try and run to the student center to grab some last minute snacks, but the line was probably enormous at this point, filled with other students like you who’d forgot to pack their own food for late classes. You’d never make it back on time—and that was the first rule of night class.

“Do you think Yoongi will bring me coffee?” you whine, trying to steal one of Jimin’s non mint-chocolate bars, but he holds his bag at a distance, uttering something about getting your own.

“Probably,” Jimin shrugs, humming to himself before rephrasing with a knowing smirk, “Actually, definitely. If he’s still here.”

You pout again, opening messages on your laptop to send him a text just as your professor begins to set up the presentation for the night at the podium.

[received 6:51 PM] moongi — yeah — why what’s up

You scoff, and Jimin takes it as invitation to take a peep at your screen; that same smirk playing on his lips as he reads your conversation.

Jimin has the audacity to laugh. It earns him a pinch on the arm.

“I don’t blame him,” Jimin chuckles, scrunching the wrapper from his finished bar between his fingers.

You flick him away, earning a screech from Jimin, and a few heads turned in your direction. More students begin filling into the room as the clock gears closer to eight, and you and Jimin spend the time opening the powerpoint for tonight’s lectures on your computers.

It’s eight o’clock on the dot when your laptop pings with another message from Yoongi—and a groan from Jimin, who breeches your personal bubble for the third time in ten minutes to press the mute button on your keyboard.

Jimin’s waving hand catches your attention first, then Yoongi’s. His only acknowledgment of the younger’s over the top waving is an eye roll, before he makes his way over to your seats, two Starbucks cups and a plastic bag in his hands.

“Aw, Yoongi, you brought me one too!” Jimin chirps, making grabby hands at the other drink as Yoongi hands you the first.

He pulls it out of arm’s reach, brining the green straw to his own lips with a scoff, “As if.”

“Thanks, Yoon,” you smile, watching Jimin pout back into his seat. He offers you a small nod and a smile as he continues to his on his drink. He extends his left hand this time, placing the plastic bag in your lap, silently.

Inside, there are a few granola bars, a bagel, cream cheese, some kind of sandwich, Pocky, a mini-sized Nutella cup, and a bottle of water. When you look back up at Yoongi he simply shrugs, biting the straw between his teeth while a light pink dusts over his cheeks.

“You said you forgot your snacks,” he mentions, “I figured you’d harass Jimin the whole lecture if you didn’t have your own, you know.”

“Oh, he got you Pocky! Let me have—” Jimin all but screams, prompting you to swat him away. The commotion grabs the attention of your professor, standing a few feet away at the podium.

She looks like she’s about to tell you to settle down or start the presentation, but then her gaze shifts slightly to Yoongi, and to your surprise, both their faces light up.

“Dr. Choi,” Yoongi greets with a smile and a handshake.

“Yoongi,” she smiles back, “Good to see you again. What are you doing here—I think I’d remember you being in this class.”

“I’m not, actually, my friends are,” Yoongi chuckles, body shifting in your direction while his arm gestures to you and Jimin, “I just came by with snacks.”

The two of them fall into easy conversation, and you have to sit back in awe. You’d listened to Yoongi rave about his Philosophy professor all of last semester, but you hadn’t imagined that your current Psychology professor was the same Dr. Choi.

She was the one that had convinced Yoongi to take more Philosophy and Logic courses, and ultimately guided him towards his Pre-Law declaration.

You get lost in your thoughts watching them interact—it’s obvious Dr. Choi was and still is very much investing in Yoongi’s wellbeing, and that he has immense respect and gratitude for her. It makes you happy, to know that he has someone who cares about his academic success the way she does.

You don’t notice the smile that settles onto your face, but Jimin does. Just like he notices the way Yoongi speaks to Dr. Choi about you. Just like he notices that the drink on the corner of your desk is, in fact, a venti, and not a grande. Just like he notices that the granola bars in the bag are not only your favorite flavor, but from your favorite brand, too. Just like he notices everything else.

It’s almost six minutes past eight before Dr. Choi realizes, apologizing to Yoongi for cutting their conversation short, and finishing her preparations for the class that will shortly begin.

Yoongi takes small footsteps back towards you, “You didn’t tell me Dr. Choi taught this class.”

“Didn’t know it was the same prof,” you shrug, “You think I’ll get brownie points now that she knows I know her favorite student?”

“You don’t need them,” Yoongi cracks a smile at the comment, “Anyway, I better go before she starts. Call me when you’re done, I’ll drive you guys home.”

“Oh, you don’t have to, Jimin and I usually—”

“Doll,” Yoongi cuts your words short, “Just call me when you’re finished.”

“Why are you turning down a free ride, you wench,” Jimin comments.

You throw daggers in his direction, before accepting Yoongi’s offer. Your tone is reluctant, but your smile gives you away. Yoongi hums.

“And eat the bagel before the Pocky.”

“You’re annoying.”

“I’m a saint,” Yoongi grins before pressing his cold cup to the side of your cheek, relishing in the way you squeal and pull away from him, “Call me.”

He begins walking away just as Dr. Choi starts to grab everyone’s attention. You scrunch your nose, wiping the condensation on your cheek away with the sleeve of your sweater, before opening your notes for the evening.

“You’re really dense, aren’t you?” Jimin asks, the look on his face almost incredulous as you dip a piece of the bagel into cream cheese.

“Dense about what?” you ask back, cheeks stuffed with food.

Jimin shakes head, turning back to his laptop with a frown.

“Hopeless,” he mumbles, “The both of you.”
