you know what im thankful for possibly the most. they could have had the incredibly tender and beautiful and tragic moment of the captain's death, taken a beat and then done the usual "well... we know we were there" and it would have been funny like it always is and i know they would have done it well but they didn't. they didn't! and that's so important to me because the captain shared this most secret, protected, personal part of himself with his family at last of his own volition and they knew how important it was to him so there was no jokes, no discounts, nothing but quiet acceptance. yeah.
