the thing that frustrates me beyond belief is that we should all know that if george was a woman nobody would be fighting on the "dnf is absolutely not real" frontlines. like there's a reason dream dares know a woman and people say they are fucking all day and all night and dating and blah blah blah but he can have years of build up to him getting comfortable enough in his sexuality to post a picture of him kissing george and calling him his date and liking art of them calling them boyfriends and with their tongues down each other's throats and joke about eating his ass and posting videos of him overlayed with a love song that he wrote (all things he has NEVER done with somebody else) and it doesn't mean anything. queer people will rarely be taken seriously and so often a condition of being taken seriously is explicitly coming out which not everybody wants to do or is in any was required to do, and even then plenty of people have ADMITTED to how they wouldn't believe dnf even if they did just that. there's a reason it took punz and catlyn one selfie for everybody with a working brain to realize they're hardlaunching but people LOVE to talk about how if dream tweeted "george and I are dating /srs" they wouldn't believe it. a universal fact of life is that queer couples will always have to jump through countless hoops and over countless hurdles to even make the wish to be taken as seriously as a straight couple

if i can chime in on the post 3l discussion i was never a fh main and only got glimpses of them through my dash and never ever saw any discussion of their issues, they were always very cutesy and in love and so sad after jimmy died from what i saw. even discussion of like the widow's alliance and stuff was never something i saw. even into empires s1 they were always flattened into "oh they're so cute" to the point where i remember actually being kinda uncomfortable with it because it was treated like that fuckass trope of a schoolboy being playfully mean to his crush. i think maybe this was all in part to do with fh being Babys First Ship and a lot of people who were into it were still balls deep in boundaries discourse and didn't want to ever risk picking up anything that the ccs weren't putting down so if scott said i wuv jimmy :( everyone went oh shit he wuv jimmy! and didn't question it. but also people still do that same bullying your crush tropey shit with jimmy all the time with every ship possible SO. when i was scouring the the internet for any in depth fh discussion a while back this is pretty much entirely what I saw from the time, which is why the people chiming in today saying they saw some conflict about it during/after 3L but pre-empires fh date surprised me… I need a time machine so so bad to do some investigating myself but unfortunately that’s not yet possible. fandom FH portrayals are very much still like you’ve described btw it’s just that now you’ll occasionally find a post referring to toxic fh or maybe if youre lucky a post giving them some genuine thought. which literally never used to happen before so through all the bitching people do in the tags it’s at least getting people talking
