Wait but for Into the Kaiverse, you mentioned them collecting more Kais, right? What other Kais would they collect?

Because idk if it’s what you have in mind but my brain is screaming ‘AUS’ at the top of it’s lungs so it’s just like-

— Modern no power au Kai who lives a normal life and is horrified by all of this crazy stuff that’s suddenly happening

— That Dragon Kai au you have so Kai’s a literal dragon and everyone else is like ??????? while Dragon!Kai is trying to figure out why there’s ‘Hunter’ versions of him-

— Based off of the previous one, maybe some kind of Oni Kai au (because then they could clash while the other Kais freak out and have no idea what to do)

— Some au where Kai is/was turned evil (and is possibly keeping that a secret so he can use the others to take over ALL the Ninjagos)

— Medieval au where Kai’s like a knight or something (idk if it would be funnier for it to be fantasy where he knows about magic or normal where he doesn’t and is screaming “WITCHCRAFT” the whole time-)

Again I have no idea if that’s the kind of thing you’re thinking of but I’m just finding the idea of really confused and VERY different au versions Kai trying to work together hilarious-

And the one thing they all have in common is that they all love their little brother Lloyd

okay so I actually was thinking of just. Mishmashing some of my AUs together, at the very least Merlopian Kai and Smith Swap Kai, but I like your idea a lot better.

Though quick idea for how I kinda wanted all of it to really start going. The short with Aki was sort of a prologue for the AU idea, that he was there in the world and wanted to make things difficult as well as wanting to find a way to essential stop any kind of realm travel, which as you can imagine would raise a few issues. At....some point during SPBNR Aki’ll end up getting his hands on this realm’s equivalent of a Realm Crystal or possibly another Relic but was stopped by Smith and Red(M!Kai), starting the whole issue. I am leaning toward another kind of relic, maybe something that binds to the user however since Aki is a clone it counts Smith, so maybe at some point they end up accidentally breaking it in half which allows Smith+Others to chase after Aki.

Anyway, onto what you’ve just brought up: I'll talk about them in order, and because why not let’s say that’s the order they get picked up in.

Love the idea of Modern Kai, assuming he still meets the team but through different circumstances. Maybe he still works in metal working, but yeah he’s very confused when someone looking like him only with paler skin and glowing eyes steps out of a freaking portal only to get tackled from behind by two other people who look weirdly like him. When he gets picked up they eventually decide to nickname him Nep, short for No Elemental Power

Next, I vote Merlopian and during the S7 time skip. This one actually happens because the three chased Aki, but lost him once they came through the portal. They decided to try and seek out this Universe’s ninja to see if they can help, which they do their best. All three of the Kai’s are like “You go into water?? Willingly????” They just call him Mer.

Next up, Dragon Kai, but with a slight twist. I was actually thinking of making an au of that au where Kai….never actually tries to go back to Ninjago and instead just vibes in the First Realm. He’s aware he’s different from the other dragons, but has no idea he used to be human, nor that he has a human family. So yeah. Lost Dragon.

ANYWAY HOW HE JOINS! When the Squad comes out of the portal, they at first think they’re in some kind of Post-Apocalyptic Type Universe which freaks them out a little bit, especially when they’re captured by the Hunters. However, similar to S9, Smith pulls a HTTYD and befriends the captive Fire Dragon, who is, you guessed it, this universe’s Kai. Once they find out he’s sentient, they end up throwing around names to call him and eventually they settle on Drake.

Next up, Oni Kai! This is technically also one of my AUs, but I’m just not finished with the info dump. Drake almost goes ballistic and they don’t know why for a while until he reveals himself as an Oni. He and Drake don’t get along very well but decide to put aside their differences since the fate of the Multiverse is at stake. They end up nicknaming him Willow, short for Will-o-wisp since his fire is….a little weird. Namely it’s purple and he can chose whether it burns people or not, and when he does want it to burn there ain’t nothing putting it out.

Next up, Smith Swap. Smol Kai go Brrrr and they all adopt him immediately. However, him joining the squad….didn’t happen in the best of ways. It was actually an accident. You see…..Aki may or may not have taken him hostage and stolen The Destiny’s Wish……y e a h.(his nickname is Ember because smol fire)

But then, they actually aren’t able to go after him immediately because while trying to get him back Smith got pretty hurt and Willow and Mer are tying to figure out their next move and then Drake had shifted back during the fight and is having a small identify crisis since his memories still aren’t completely back and it doesn’t help that Nya’s angry and Nep is freaking out and Red is trying desperately to hold them together and yeah it’s just a mess.

So it’s 2 weeks before they’re able to actually go anywhere, and that’s only because Smith ignored the doctor’s advice and only took the minimum rest period but the others all made him swear to take it easy and that they would handle all the fighting.

So they jump into the next universe to get him back, which is now the Medival one. For this one magic does exist but only a select few can do it. Medival Kai, who they eventually called Ruby because of reasons soon to be explained, is not aware he is one of these users.

However, let’s rewind a bit to when Ember and Aki first came here. Aki ends up causing quite a bit of issues since “hey this place is magic rich, they’re bound to have some ways to seal off all the realms” and thus ends up trying to kidnap several magic users of various kinds. Medival!Jay, Zane and Nya were actually among those captured.

Ofc, this extremely pisses off Ruby and starts taking steps to get them back. They know where his base is, but because Aki is coercing Ember by threatening the hostages(specifically Nya) there are some higher tech defenses which they don’t know how to counter. It also doesn’t help that Aki put vengestone everywhere so they can’t have magic users destroy the defenses.

That’s when the Kai’s show up.

Understandably the Medieval’s are suspicious, however they really want to get rid of this jerk. So they do and Smith is really upset he’s stuck on planning. It goes pretty well, they get the magic users, Ruby finds out “hey you have powers,” however Aki still gets away.

Now, this is getting really long, so I’ll do the next(and probably last) bit in another post

Imagine if Meowthra just adopts dragon!Kai and starts treating him like a kitten

*Jumps out of the discord server* I come bearing gifts! A subset of the SPBNR Possession AU where Smith & M!Kai end up sharing a body, except there's a Jekyll & Hyde esc. situation going on where they swap control when they sleep. Neither is aware of the other but are increasingly confused (M!Kai deals with school and daytime, Smith/Shogun deals with secret vigilante and nighttime). The others only start to catch on to something being wrong after M!Kai falls asleep at school and Smith wakes up

This one is a personal favorite of mine!

And so far the planned way of them both figuring out is Smith just. Leaving a not next to him where he sleeps that reads “Hi my name is Kai and I think we might be sharing a body. Could you write a note back so I know I’m not just being crazy?”

And then M!Kai wakes up and is very confused because why is he at home??? then sees the note and writes back. “Given I have no idea how I got home, that makes sense. My name is also Kai”

Okay but I can't stop thinking about Monty going to the movie!verse; like he's such a precious little shit and I love him so here's some disjointed thoughts I rambled on my notes app:

I feel like he would trigger every older sibling instinct the m!ninja have, a wierd mix of 'get this gremlin as far away from me as possible' and 'i need to wrap this kid up in blankets and feed him snacks while we watch a movie,' and if he didn't out his identity right away I feel like Lloyd would find him strangely... familiar but not be able to put a finger on why

A scenario I can't get out of my head is Monty somehow getting free reign over garm's volcano fortress and just setting traps everywhere home alone style, and like taking all the batteries out of remotes and lightbulbs out of sockets, swapping the sugar and salt, trading everyone's uniforms around and just generally being a pest like he was when he first stayed with the ninja; a little agent of chaos that try as they might neither the generals nor garmadon himself can catch the kid

EGBHJERBSJ OKAY BUT THAT’D BE GREAT-

And. Just to make it funnier, let’s say Monty was sent while Smith was captured. Nobody knows where this little blonde kid came from, but in the past two hours alone he seems to have rigged almost the entire volcano in various kinds of pranks and boobie traps. And then on the rare occasion someone’s able to actually find the little gremlin, turns out he isn’t so helpless because he easily kicked they butts.

By the time the M!Ninja finally show up for their rescue mission, the Generals are practically begging them to take him. They don’t care if they need to give up their Supper Dupper Important Prisoner, they just want that little nightmare gone.

into the kaiverse but aki gets colored contacts or smthg and gets in his ‘shogun’ gear to do stuff and convince the m ninja to not trust the real one anymore (possibly talking trash about lloyds civilian identity)

shogun becomes confused abt why they dont like him anymore and he asks what he did and they cant say its about lloyd bc he has a secret identity so they just glare & dont explain

it takes smith way too long to realize that it was aki and when he does he just loses it kdhdkjfk

THAT'D BE REALLY FUN AND CHAOTIC!!!!

And I have a very nice, very angsty idea that expands on that, if you don’t mind.

See, Aki is, for a lack of a better word, very very bored. Garmadon’s minions don’t give him any challenge, he can’t go picking fights with the ninja because of his agreement, and fighting Smith is just way too risky.

So he settles for a different past time. Toying with Smith’s life.

After all, his agreement was only that he wouldn’t hurt them. Never promised anything about, say, destroying Shogun’s relationship with them.

So yeah. Thus starts Aki occasionally posing as Shogun whenever he can and generally causing chaos.

Meanwhile Smith has no idea what’s going on. Suddenly the Ninja are much colder toward him, talking to him less and being less inviting during training sessions, but no matter how many times he asks they just won’t tell him what’s up.

And honestly it’s starts messing with him. He starts second guessing every interaction, very word he’s ever said to them, desperately trying to figure out where he went wrong and how it fix it.

But, one day Aki finally slips and while going on about something, mentions having first met Lloyd in the middle of the day when he bumped into him.

However, Lloyd knows that’s not true. On one hand, he could just be lying.

But on the other, and accounting in Shogun’s confusion….. they start to suspect something’s up.

Eventually they end up comming Shogun to instead of meeting them at the base to meet them at a warehouse. He’s very confused, but he does.

Imagine his surprise when he walks in....and sees them arguing with another Shogun.

You see, they actually told Aki to meet at the warehouse in person, however then they asked Shogun via the comms. Now both Shoguns are here.

And Shogun immediatly realizes what was happening this whole time and he. is. pissed.

I like little S! Loyd bending in the movieverse at the moment Shogun got captured and becoming a total pest for the generals and M!Garmadon, and made so desperate to get rid of him that he basically goes back into his mech, grabs Loyd and Shogun (Who now is being really protective of the little gremling tonthe point of growling...

And them drop them both if infront a group of very confused M!ninja in their mech.

M!Garmadon: I'm done dealing with them, now it's YOUR turn to be tormented by this thing... *Leaves*

M!Ninja: WTF!?!?

Same Bugs

Playing Hollow Knight and got inspired, guess the only thing that can get me to put down that game is a fic that needs writing who knew.

The sky was falling.

That was the only thing running through Kai's mind as the shadow blotting out the howling sky above grew closer. Behind the safety of a rock, Garmadon hissed with laughter. "Fool, you thought you could stand against me? The Dark Spider?"

Kai drew his Nail, the weapon nothing more than a toothpick in comparison to the shadow that towered over the Crystal Peaks of Hallownest. This was his home, his family was still down in the tunnels below, he would not let this creature Garmadon had somehow summoned harm them-

His antenna shook from the wind, armor creaking. It felt like standing on the precipice of the Howling Cliffs.

What was this creature? It had no shell, no armor, just silk-like covering and flesh like an earthworm. A giant earthworm. And not 'giant that it filled and blocked the cavern tunnels', not 'so giant it filled the cavern that held the City of Tears', but so giant that Hallownest would not fit it at all; hell, the thing was almost bigger than Hallownest from the surface to its deepest cavern by the void.

A fleshy thing reached down from the sky, like five earthworms attacked to a round surface. It dug into the rocky dirt around Kai and lifted him from the cliffside. Despite his yelled protests and stabs with his Nail, the creature did not drop the dirt Kai stood upon.

The last of Hallownest he saw was Garmadon, balanced on four of his legs while he hailed the sky with the other four in a roaring laugh. "Farewell, Red Knight! You cannot hide the vessel, my son, forever!"

Then the dirt beneath Kai fell away and he plummeted into a glass cage, blacking out as his head smacked into a transparent wall.

Lloyd was having a very, very bad day. Worse than his usual form of bad day. So he did what he usually did on those days;

Visited the one pet shop on the block that didn't hate his guts.

It was run by a normally cranky old lady who only seemed to be nice to Lloyd, which was an astoundingly stark contrast to everyone else in his life (minus his mom). He loved wandering the aisles of the small shop, waving hello to all the birds and critters, and helping the lady tidy the small shop.

His favorite, however, was the bug section. Her assistant occasionally brought by new bugs they found in the forest or wasteland desert around Ninjago city. There were so many unique varieties in the area. Lloyd had befriended five of the bugs and brought them home before; a Hercules beetle he named Cole, a lightning bug he named Jay, a white-tailed dragonfly he named Zane, a water strider he named Nya, and a fire ant he named Kai.  "You're in luck," the old woman said. "My assistant just brought in some new bugs from the wastelands. There's a rather peculiar one that seems to fit the type you gather."

Lloyd's mood began to perk up. "Really?"

He wandered to the back of the store where a new tank sat. In it were a variety of small, common bugs, wandering around and buzzing into the glass walls. One bug, however, seemed to be attacking the walls with vigor, a strange-looking bug that resembled a fire ant like Kai and yet was... different. 

Different like the five bugs, yet... a different kind of different. Polished. Almost... knight-like.

It wasn't much of a surprise that Lloyd ended up taking the strange fire ant home, dubbing him 'Smith'. He kept them in a smaller tank next to the big tank at first, planning to slowly get the bug used to the others first before just dropping them in. He got the feeling they were a little... aggressive at the moment. Stressed. Lloyd didn't want a fight breaking out.

He sat back and watched the tanks.

Kai/Smith didn't know what in the Pale King's name was going on.

Compartmentalize. Right. Figure things out. Right. PK'S SAKE, WHY WAS THINKING SO HARD-

What did he know? Right. Start with that.

He knew he'd been fighting Garmadon on Crystal Peaks, up on the surface. He'd been lured there by a couple of weavers- strange, for them to be so far from Deepnest- and ambushed. Then Garmadon has started summoning... something. He didn't know what. Just something to 'get rid of Kai' without killing him. 

Then the giant descended from the distant horizon, snatched him up, dumped him in a large glass box with non-sentient bugs, and carried him away.

What was the giant? Why did it grab him? Was it summoned by Garmadon, or was it just chance? 

Right. Back to what he knew. 

He'd ended up in a large... shop? Maybe? And while he'd been trying to slice apart his glass prison with his Nail, the sword-like weapon doing nothing but bounce off the thick walls, another smaller giant had entered, he'd been scooped into a smaller tank, and carried to another different place.

And that brought him to now, in a room while the smaller giant stared at him.

Great. Just great.

He huffed, slamming the tip of his Nail into the dirt, leaving it there for now. With a spin, he found himself facing a larger glass tank.

There was a lighting bug staring at him.

The bug squeaked when they saw Kai looking back, light flashing under a small knitted orange scarf made of threads. They flew off.

Well. That was a thing that had happened. At least that bug looked more sentient and civil than the critters at the shop. 

A dragonfly came by after, staring at Kai with an almost unnerving, no blinking look in their eyes. Kai tried for a smile but he was, in his defense, still quite a deal shaken from the ordeal, so he wasn't quite sure how it looked.

The small giant, satisfied with something, picked up Kai's tank and slowly lowered it into the main glass box. He tumbled a bit into the dirt, his Nail flipping to smack him on the head a little unceremoniously. Just perfect.

And while he was disoriented, a water strider got in his face and started yelling about 'don't you dare hurt the others, got that?' and something about a very unfortunate encounter with an orchid mantis who pretended to be their friend only to hurt everyone, bite their giant friend, and escape.

And there was a fire ant that looked like Kai here too. Just peachy.

Kai/Smith slammed down the visor of his helmet. He didn't need this right now. He needed to find a way home.

He had to get back to Hallownest.

YESSSSSSSS BUGGY BOIS GO BRRRR!!!!!!

Oh! Oh! (My brain won't STOP) what about the scene in the firsts chapters!

It basically starts the same as ever, with my idea of how he finds himself being a dragon and tries to remain hidden, only going out by night, but in the moment the other kid menaces M!Loyd. . .

A deep, menacing and Blood chilling growl sounds over them, the sound is sooooo Deep and strong it moved through both of their bodies moving everything... Neither M!Loyd, nor the bully, would move and then, drops of something really hot landed on the floor, looking down, It looked like boiling saliva landed on the floor, and both kids looked up...

A beast of nightmares... with glowing ember-like eyes, scales as red as blood (in the dark), huge teeth and wings... A really Big dragon...

The creature roars towars the kids, protective instincs kicking with strenght enough to numb his ability to actually think, it is going to protect it's previous cargo... Whatever it takes...

It's Roar send the offender running away, and the bully manages to look over his shoulders while running, the Garma-dumb was completely frozen in place, terror filled face looking at the beast... Whatever... If that thing eats him, it at least let him have time to scape...

Just... The beast takes a look at him, bites the back of his hoodie... And takes off flying...

S!Kai, completely lost in his instincs, takes M! Loyd away into the buildings nearby the beach, where he made a nest out of instincs as well, and them procedes to check up M!Loyd for injuries, or at least he does until M!Loyd reacts and screams in terror, breaking S!Kai out of his instinctive state and then they both set things straight into knowing he's not a bad dragon...

That's all I got... For now...

(Checks AU list) Alright, which one to unleash on all you non-discord users... how about the Slingshot Smith AU? A concept to satisfy Smith staying with both the S!verse and the M!verse; M!Garmadon has a wish-maker or a machine or something and makes the same wish as S!Garmadon so Smith finds himself constantly slingshotted between the two dimensions as each wish overpowers the other for a small time before fading and switching (aka Smith switches worlds every 10 minutes or something :3)

Okay this is definitely one of the more Crack AUs, but it's also one of my favorites. I can only imagine the chaos that would come from this, like if he disappeared in the middle of a mission or conversation or something

More for Cat!Smith, imagine he follows Lloyd to school and the teachers try to kick him out but ninja skills + cat mean he’s incredibly difficult to catch, so they end up just letting him wander the school.

When avoiding the teacher the first time, he goes into the maths class and jumps behind Jay’s bag and Jay looks down to see a big fluffy cat under his table.

But oh my first master a cat with ninja skills would be impossible to find. They're already so sneaky, this would just make him the Ultimate Stealth

Spbnr AU where Smith AND Lloyd gets teleported to the movieverse (maybe by accident?). Can you imagine just

Smith: and this is my little brother, Montgomery

Montgomery: [waves]

The M!Ninja: [visible confusion since the two of them could NOT look anymore different than they already do]

It's just a running gag for them to figure out what their parents look like. Obviously Smith doesn't tell them about his parents yet but Montgomery is more than prepared to talk about his. He's goes on about his father. (he doesn't talk about Garmadon by name, but he's super passionate about his father still and the M!Ninja start getting suspicious that he's Garmadon's son, which feeds into the theory that Smith is Garmadon's son, too... Or that Smith was an artificial creation made to protect Montgomery)

Y'know, this is actually an AU I have planned :DDD

I don't want to give away too much, but once the Ninja meet Monty it sparks some weird theories.

My personal favorite is "Monty is Garmadon's Son and Smith is his body guard made in a lab to be the perfect protector, only Smith decided it would be best for Monty to be away from Garmadon so they escaped"

Another thing just hit my head right now...

Dragon Smith during a M!Garmadon attack, right after hearing this is a Garmalarm of sorts and looking upon the lots and lots of mechs... He would go completely feral, a force of nature destroying each and every mechs while his mind and roars say something similar to "my kits, MY KITS, GET THE F AWAY FROM THEM YOU FIENDS!!!!"

And while all that glorious, fiery destruction is going on...

M! Garmadon: *in his mech, at the beach, looking at the chaos and destrution brought upon his army by the fire Drake* . . .😶 *slowly goes back into the water and drives back to his volcano, unable to turn away from the sight of glorious destruction*

The M!ninja on their mechs: 😐 *get out of their mechs and see the drake's destruction of Garmadon's army* . . .

M!Jay: ... Is anybody else happy that Smith (he named S!Kai like that) is on our side and hates dealing with Garmadon just as much as we do?

The other M!Ninja: *all agree*

...

M! Zane: *soft, muffled buzzing sound comes from inside him* I'm making popcorn as we espectate Smith's way of destruction, do anybody wants some?

M!Ninja: HECK YEAH!

And then afterward him just dragging all six of them to his Nest so he can dote on them and just be the Ultimate Caretaker
