Reportagem - SpiritFest 10

Bragança acolheu, mais um ano, um Festival de música eclética e alternativa, já conhecido e acarinhado pelo público. Sábado, dia 25 de Novembro, a cidade transmontana foi palco do SpiritFest. Na sua 10ª edição, o festival foi pautado por uma viagem entre o contemporâneo e o tradicional. Apesar do evento coincidir com outro festival tradicional na cidade, o Festival Bienal da Máscara, tal não afetou em nada a adesão dos festivaleiros, que assim marcaram presença nos vários concertos distribuídos em diferentes pontos da cidade.

O Spirit Fest é organizado pela promotora independente Dedos Biónicos que continua a lutar pela diferença e inclusão social e musical, árdua tarefa dado que estamos a falar de uma cidade pequena do interior do país.

É difícil descrever em simples palavras o ambiente geral vivido pelos festivaleiros, uma experiência cultural apenas verdadeiramente sentida por quem esteve presente. O evento foi repleto de sorrisos, gargalhadas, e a ocasional lágrima no canto do olho, tudo bem regado com bons vinhos disponibilizados pelos bares da organização. A confraternização entre pessoas de diferentes gerações, variadas nacionalidades e personalidades foi sobrenatural, uma união que nem o frio transmontano foi capaz de abalar.

Nesta 10ª edição, fizeram-se representar oito projectos musicais, de géneros artísticos e nacionalidades distintas, com apresentações a rondar os 40 minutos. Os espaços escolhidos foram a Casa da Seda do Centro Ciência Viva de Bragança, o MINA Creative Hub, a casa de vinhos Lost Corner e o tão conhecido bar Goal Keeper. Espaços de renome e localizados na baixa da cidade, disponibilizaram ao público, que se deslocava entre concertos, a oportunidade de admirar a magnifica vista outonal sobre o rio Fervença.

A abertura do festival iniciou às 16h00 na Casa da Seda e ficou a cargo de Cardeal Polatuo, o duo de percussão que prendeu os brigantinos. A música, exclusivamente instrumental, ressoou como trovoada, uma espécie de tempestade musical caótica, onde os artistas não seguiam um padrão, mas sim um sentimento geral, música pela beleza da música. O espaço, disposto ao estilo de auditório romano ajudou ao ambiente eclético, e a plateia ficou atenta aos artistas, em silêncio, sem conversas paralelas, presa ao ritmo. No final da atuação, a boa resposta do público traduziu-se nos aplausos ensurdecedores.

Às 17h00 foi a vez de Dark Alchemy, projecto de Folk/Post-Black Metal, brilhar. O transmontano estreou-se ao vivo no MINA Creative Hub, um espaço localizado num edifício antigo, onde o tradicional e o moderno se encontram. Com uma ótima recepção, a real surpresa é o local do concerto que faz jus ao nome do espaço, o reaproveitamento de uma mina, transformado numa verdadeira caverna de musicalidade. Entre um espetáculo de luzes e fumo, o artista prendeu o público nos primeiros acordes, numa bolha de energia que tornou a pedra menos fria. Anunciando o seu novo álbum, Isaac Filipe, com o seu projecto Dark Alchemy, interagiu com as pessoas, e entre piadas, gargalhadas e muita música, ninguém ficou indiferente. Apesar de ser o primeiro concerto ao vivo do artista, as letras das músicas eram já murmuradas pelos lábios de alguns. No fim do concerto, o público fez-se ouvir, clamando e pedindo por mais, deixando assim a promessa de ver o artista transmontano atuar mais vezes.

Os bracarenses Navegantes da Rua encarregaram-se da animação às 18h00 na casa de vinhos Lost Corner. O duo de bateria e baixo caracteriza o seu som como uma fusão entre o Rock e o Funk. Apesar do espaço ser limitado, uma pequena multidão ficou à entrada, investida no ritmo. Um ritmo certo, como que a ordem no meio do caos. O concerto foi um crescendo, a música tornando-se mais pesada conforme a evolução da apresentação. Dado o projecto ser exclusivamente instrumental, as gargalhadas e as conversas juntaram-se assim ao ritmo dos instrumentos e o público movia-se em sintonia. A prestação do baixo foi exímia, no entanto, a bateria foi rainha, os movimentos como que frenéticos do artista prenderam o olhar da plateia que saiu do concerto com entusiasmo palpável.

De volta à Casa da Seda, pelas 19h00 atuou o artista espanhol Victor Herrero, que se fez acompanhar de uma guitarra clássica. É fascinante o que uma simples guitarra, com as suas chorosas notas incute no público, que assiste, em silêncio. Este concerto foi como que um momento de calmaria, de reflexão. Música que se ouve com os ouvidos da alma. O artista trata o concerto como uma conversa, revelando algumas das suas influências musicais, e presenteia o público com música esmagadoramente sentida. Entre afinações de guitarra, o artista partilha histórias familiares, arrancando gargalhadas aos festivaleiros que ficam imediatamente rendidos. Juntamente com o seu irmão, nas teclas, apresentam o novo disco "Pajarito Negro" que inspirou igualmente uma marca de vinho que o artista promoveu durante e após o concerto. Foi um espetáculo aconchegante, numa espécie de conversa intimista. A vibração das cordas juntamente com as batidas na guitarra, simulavam batimentos cardíacos, que embalavam o público. Um concerto que, de tão bom, pareceu tão curto.

As atuações da noite voltaram a fazer do MINA a sua casa. Às 21h30, o duo polaco Smrt A Dvka deu o mote para o resto da noite. Entre tensão e libertação, a música eletrónica da dupla polaca deu que falar. A voz da vocalista foi enaltecida por sintetizadores, dando lugar a uma apresentação eclética e distinta. O público reagiu com bastante entusiasmo e a prestação dos artistas teve ainda tempo para um discurso poético na sua língua nativa, sempre acompanhado de notas etéreas.

Às 22h15 subiram ao palco os britânicos Gum Takes Tooth, os mais esperados da noite. Um dueto de música eletrónica, rítmica e energética. A batida em ritmo repetitivo e grave, aliado à voz suave do vocalista, uma voz meio que adormecida, trouxe o equilíbrio perfeito. Com um espetáculo de luzes como pano de fundo, e aumentando a intensidade rítmica no decorrer do concerto, o público entra como que numa espécie de transe, obrigando os pés a levantar do chão. Os artistas londrinos descrevem a segunda parte do concerto como uma apresentação "Disco" e um dos membros fez as delicias do público ao desculpar-se por não falar bem português, ironicamente, em português perfeito. O MINA foi ao rubro com a prestação dos britânicos, e o final de tal prestação deixou, sem sombra de dúvida, um gosto agridoce com vontade de mais.

De volta ao panorama musical luso, pelas 23h10, subiu ao palco Zancudo Berraco, com o seu estilo techno industrial e trance. A apresentação foi ininterrupta, de ritmos fortes com alguns toques "psicadélicos", que provocaram o êxtase dos festivaleiros. Foi impossível ficar indiferente à mistura de sons e sentimentos da música do artista, e até os mais envergonhados abanavam a cabeça ou batiam o pé. Foi um momento de libertar anseios e medos, e de apenas dançar e aproveitar a noite.

O culminar da noite e do festival iniciou por volta da 00h00 sendo o bar Goal Keeper o espaço anfitrião. Os artistas Carlos e Custódio tomaram as rédeas da animação do final do evento com música para todos os gostos, acabando a noite em grande.

Além da música, esta edição do SpiritFest contou com exibições de artes plásticas e audiovisuais pelos artistas Rita Sá, Miguel Silva, Bandido e Cristina Costa. Para os fãs de souvenirs, foi montado no MINA um espaço especial que serviu como oficina de tatuagens, ao cargo da artista Daniela Padrão, do estúdio Violet Voltage, que deixou a tinta falar por si e gravou a pele e as memórias dos festivaleiros.

Foi uma 10ª edição repleta de música, arte e partilha de cultura, um festival alternativo, inclusivo e muito necessário ao panorama cultural transmontano. Esperamos ansiosos pela 11ª edição do SpiritFest, que servirá não só para reanimar a população brigantina, mas também para mostrar que para lá do Marão, ecoando entre os montes, se aprecia e se faz arte!

Stevens Point's Holy Spirit Parish to hold SpiritFest July 28

Activities include a polka Mass, cash raffles, chicken dinner, musical performances, bingo, petting zoo and games.

STEVENS POINT — The annual SpiritFEST at Holy Spirit Parish will be held  from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 28 at St. Stanislaus Church, 838 Fremont St., Stevens Point.

The celebration takes on special meaning this year, with the construction of a new ministry center, while Holy Spirit Parish celebrates the first anniversary of Fr. Steve Brice, who began his duties as new pastor on July 1, 2018.

Honestly this week has been such a ride. Friday, Saturday, Sunday I was at Spiritfest in Waimauku and that changed my life forever. To put words succinctly one after the other to express myself feels like a horrible concerto trying to make a child birth seem more beautiful but it already is beautiful in its own visceral and very moving ways.

I find it hard to relate to this world anymore. No it's not drugs I take to get away from it either. No, I'm slowly at an impasse, the one where you know your life is heading into avant garde oblivion and all you can do is smile, grab your walking stick and smile as people pass you by.

I'm not usually a blogger and I'd like to share why here: because it's not really about me that I care about. I care so much about others to the detriment of my health or life or economy. I love people so deeply I never could dare keep them but I know that I have to let them go. After I've met someone so real I could take hours just in their eyes alone, and them within mine too. And that's what I'd rather share.

"You're something special E", is something a beautiful being told me just today. I know I am but can I be here with you rather than on the other end of lines of code?

Distance doesn't bother me much at all usually. But my inevitable death rolls in like the storm clouds or the wind upon the waves it comes slower than it blows ready to engulf me in my own emptiness and isolation. Coming in from the sea, I can hear the bells. I can hear the heavens songs when I'm feeling close to the other side. Today is one of those days.

I guess I should write about my BCT blog eh? Haha yeah.

We made good progress on our board game today. It took me until 2am to make any progress on the board game the night before, and I just know I wanted to use flux to solder all the pieces together.

Next day we came in, had our BCT theory with Roy. I think he really is a fantastic lecturer, I understand the quality of his teaching because of my own valuable years of experiences, and I dearly appreciate his reflective tools and methods he offers for us as he stands before his future friends and families.

I was waiting for a friend to come to the beach with me today, but they had other plans. I think this is okay, because I am in a very odd and existential and emotional mood today, which begs to be said and felt.

In the end, we managed to complete our boardgame, I got to teach my group how to solder in a very basic sense and invited them to make changes or help as they saw fit. We made many iterations, mainly because of the power required for the LEDs were somehow so high we needed an extra strong power source. I went out to find a 2 dollar shop at lunch with Joe, to find a toy that ran off batteries so we could take it's cells and the cell housing to install on our board instead of the makey makey which is maxed out at 5V. In the end I bought some art supplies I really would rather be using right now than writing this and some 1.5V AAA batteries, and 2 small LED torches to use the cell housing and one one the buttons from the torch was implemented into a switch for our wheel of fortune (the dice roll mechamism) for our boardgame.

I was surprised that I'd have to take so long on doing simple circuits. I'm definitely a novice at electrical engineering or design but I look around the workshop, and other people's inventions with their boardgame and I can't help but feel like I just didn't have enough time to make our whole dream for the boardgame come together. It's not that humbling to realise that I really do know nothing about this practical application of electrical engineering and science....but I will get there and ill create all I need to leave a lasting legacy in this world, even if there isn't that much left in the world we really need to make. And as always.... I am dreaming.

March 2020. UMMMMMM

So – I always seem to start with SO and I always end up editing it out , however I reckon this one is going to stay

SO.  Holy macaroni, what the hell.  Crazy crazy zombie apocalypse times.  After my last not blog I started to plan my next one around my other goals for 2020 (aside from strengthening online).

I was going to tell you all about the little festivals I would be doing, about getting back on the road, about reconnecting with the Gypsy roots and about just how much I enjoy all this new  energy. I was having a hard time getting anything onto paper.  Everything I said sounded trite and pretentious.  I decided I would hang ten and see if it just came naturally.  Thought about doing a hindsight number. Think I will, since it is now nostalgic and not trite.

In Late Feb we did UP the Creek rock festival...  It was epic. Long long hours and physically demanding.  We had to pack away the entire stall every night at around 10 and have it set back up again at around 8.30ish.  We were trying out a different way of set up so that we could have a comfier camp vibe. So, although the camping was divine the work entailed to have that was hectic. And have to pack all away as the elements were trying at best.  We had crazy wind, rain, baking baking sun,  Hot hot and Cold cold.  Definitely back to the drawing board on all fronts.   The festival itself was FANTASTIC.  I could not say enough nice things about how well organised it all was.  The people were just all so friendly, the crowds were great fun and we just generally had an excellent time. We even had an amazing super moon.

Came away feeling very happy, content and totally shattered. Took these two old bods at least 4 days to recover.

Two weeks later I set off by myself to Spiritfest.  A much more gentle and easy set up.  A completely different vibe all together from Up the Creek.  In fact, I think you could say they were exact opposites of each other and both so amazing in their different ways.  Once again long hours, only shutting down at around 10 and up again with the sun.   Those yogis are up early let me tell you.  It is one of the nicest festivals to trade.  Everyone is so relaxed and chilled out.  A beautiful setting, that just lends itself to the complete calm of Spiritfest. 

Came back from there happy and ready for our next one.  As I was unpacking, I was setting up and getting ready for Retreat Yourself at the end of March. The whole family was thoroughly looking forward to that

SO, and this is where the so comes in, what the……

It is still amazing me how quickly this is all happening.  All so surreal.  As we have gone into lockdown and our income has pretty much dried up, one as to look at how we will be operating in this time. I have chosen to use this time for regrouping. The online project is about to get seriously jacked up and I can only be extremely grateful that it is all set up and I don’t have to use capital to get it going.  Our stockrooms are going to be completely sorted and organised and my wonderful little shops are going to be getting a deep sort out and stock take. It is almost like this pause is necessary to regroup and get all those little tasks that NEVER get done, done. We can only look at this as a positive, if we don’t it is too awful to contemplate.
