As Google has worked to overtake the internet, its search algorithm has not just gotten worse.  It has been designed to prioritize advertisers and popular pages often times excluding pages and content that better matches your search terms 

As a writer in need of information for my stories, I find this unacceptable.  As a proponent of availability of information so the populace can actually educate itself, it is unforgivable.

Below is a concise list of useful research sites compiled by Edward Clark over on Facebook. I was familiar with some, but not all of these.

Google is so powerful that it “hides” other search systems from us. We just don’t know the existence of most of them. Meanwhile, there are still a huge number of excellent searchers in the world who specialize in books, science, other smart information. Keep a list of sites you never heard of.

www.refseek.com - Academic Resource Search. More than a billion sources: encyclopedia, monographies, magazines.

www.worldcat.org - a search for the contents of 20 thousand worldwide libraries. Find out where lies the nearest rare book you need.

https://link.springer.com - access to more than 10 million scientific documents: books, articles, research protocols.

www.bioline.org.br is a library of scientific bioscience journals published in developing countries.

http://repec.org - volunteers from 102 countries have collected almost 4 million publications on economics and related science.

www.science.gov is an American state search engine on 2200+ scientific sites. More than 200 million articles are indexed.

www.pdfdrive.com is the largest website for free download of books in PDF format. Claiming over 225 million names.

www.base-search.net is one of the most powerful researches on academic studies texts. More than 100 million scientific documents, 70% of them are free

Yeah, I (mostly) dropped off the face of Simblr again. LOL

I've been doing some real-life stuff, including acquiring a new intense interest, yay! That would be studying the Hebrew bible, AKA, the "Old Testament;" I couldn't care less about (mostly) Paul's insane bullshit. As it turns out, the bible is far, far more interesting when you don't have to do Olympic-level mental gymnastics, fight cognitive dissonance, and stand on your head to try to reconcile contradictions in order to believe that the bible is the inerrant "Word of God™" upon which one should base one's entire outlook on life. Instead, it becomes a window into a culture that is for the most part lost but also one that, paradoxically, has a vast impact on the modern world, given the stranglehold that fundamentalist Christianity and Islam have on much of the world, so understanding it is of importance in order to fight that stranglehold. I've gone so far as to start to learn biblical Hebrew, including taking an online course that will start soon, so that, hopefully one day, I won't have to rely so much on incorrect and biased translations.

So yeah. Weird, but this is the sort of thing I do, so there we are. This was all kicked off by helping a sort-of friend (a member of the fundie church I used to belong to that I've kept in contact with since becoming an apostate) to deconstruct her Christianity over the past few months, which is a whole other thing to rant about.

Anyway, more on-topic for this blog, I've also been cooking up some new Simming to do, but I'll talk about that in another post instead of making this one even longer. LOL

i never thought i'd be making a post like this, but unfortunately, early this morning around 4 a.m., someone crashed their car through the window of our apartment living room. we're all okay (my sister @nucrests, our cat, and i), but the damage is quite severe, and our living situation is not ideal at the moment. while insurance covers damage to our furniture, the temporary fixes to the wall/window are unsafe.

we're in a stable financial position, but if anyone is willing to help us find a new living arrangement, i'll provide more details below (along with photos of the incident).

Almost all of my fanfic was scraped by AI, including a series it took me a year to write. If it weren't for all the lovely comments I've received from people saying my longest fic helped them in some way and they re-read it for comfort, I'd wipe AO3 of my presence. As of the time of this post, AO3 has been scraped by yet another shady individual looking to make a quick buck off the backs of hardworking hobby writers. This Reddit post here has all the details and the most current information. In short, if your fic URL ends in a number between 1 and 63,200,000 (inclusive), AND is not archive locked, your fic has been scraped and added to this database.

I have been trying to hold off on archive locking my fics for as long as possible, and I've managed to get by unscathed up to now. Unfortunately, my luck has run out and I am archive locking all of my current and future stories. I'm sorry to my lovelies who read and comment without an account; I love you all. But I have to do what is best for me and my work. Thank you for your understanding.

Can we... ban Xwitter links on all our Discord servers? call in people who post X links like we have (tried) with CF? share screenshots instead of X links when the next "leak" comes out?

How can we push The Sims team to shift their communications strategy to other, less harmful platforms? (cough, Bluesky)

This feels incredibly urgent to me as an American but it should feel urgent to you too, regardless of where you live! Just look at Elon's recent backing of the right wing extremist AfD party in Germany. The man has enough money to buy any government he wants, let's not let him have our eyeballs for free.
