Coat of arms of Ebersbach monastery on a 400 year old bookcase
This is a "talking" coat of arms, which depicts the name of the monastery. Eber is a male wild boar, bach means creek. Accordingly, the coat of arms shows a monastery, a wild boar, and a creek.
According to the legend, monks frim Burgundy were sent out to found a new monastery at the right bank of the river Rhine in the early 1100s. Since the rule of the Cistercian order called for a reclusive place far away from civilization with access to fresh water. They found good conditions at a side valley of the river Rhine opposite of the ancient city of Mainz, but were undecided about the exact spot. Suddenly, a wild boar came out of the forest and jumped over the creek three times. And because three is a holy number, the monks took it as a signnof God to found the monastery at this very spot and named it Ebersbach – boar creek.
This old bookcase caused major trouble when a conference of the NATO defense ministers was to be held in the dining room of the monastery where the bookcase stands. One of the delegations feared that a bomb may have been placed in the bookcase and demanded it to be opened and inspected. However, the key is lost since centuries and the bookcase has never been seen open. The organizers of the meeting had a very hard time to convince the delegation that the old bookcase posed no danger, but managed eventually to do so, and the conference took place as scheduled.

The 5 girls who deserve new skins the most
5: Arizona
Tumblr media
Number of skins: 1. Last skin release: 2022
Arizona is always one of the most underrated girls in AL, and deserves more love. Her enchantress from afar skin is great, and more like that could really get her the love she truly deserves
4: Leipzig
Tumblr media
Number of skins: 1. Last skin release: 2021
Leipzig was beloved in the early days of AL, only to be buried deeper and deeper as more Ironblood girls game out. A new skin really could help her shine a bit more.
3: mainz
Tumblr media
Number of skins: 1. Last skin release: 2023
Despite the recent release, her skin never managed to bring her much major attention. A new one could help bring her back from the irrelevance that it feels like every girl in PR3 is doomed to.
2: Graf Zeppelin
Tumblr media
Number of skins: 1. Last skin release: 2019
Graf Zeppelin is one of the oldest Ironblood girls in the game, yet only has a single skin, despite that. A new one was sorely overdue years ago, much less now. However, the fact that she has an entire alt, in Zeppy, keeps her just out of the top spot
1: Duke of York
Tumblr media
Number of skins: 2. Last skin release: 2020
Duke of York is another very old ship. And despite that, has been overlooked by the developers for many years, even when other ships on this list got something. A new skin is very sorely needed, to not doom her to obscurity forever

Championship loss - Julian Brandt
Tumblr media
Pairing: Julian Brandt x female reader
Warnings: I'm gonna break your hearts again with the Championship loss, but also a lot of fluff, soft moments, teeny tiny bit of teasing, badly translated German, mentions of Jannis and Jascha
Word Count: 1653
Note: As always, English is not my first language. This one has been on my mind since we lost. Next one should be a Jude one and then I can get to the requests in my inbox. This one just had to come out now. Remember it's fictional, some parts may be alike with real life and some I just came up with. Please do not copy and/or publish my work, reblogging is perfectly fine!
Dortmund vs Mainz. The last game of the season and all we needed to do was win. Win so we could win the league. Win so we could lift the Meisterschale. That was the dream, everything Dortmund had worked so hard for and we didn’t win it. The equalizer from Niklas wasn’t enough because Bayern won their game. And now everything has become a nightmare. She’s watching speechless as she sees the defeat and utter disbelief on everyone’s faces.
But the one she is worried about most hasn’t come back onto the field again. Julian was subbed out in the 62nd minute and she knows he’s beating himself up. She may not be able to see him from where she’s stood, but she can feel his pain. Pain she also feels because she loves Dortmund, but it’s probably nothing compared to Julian’s pain and the other players. She’s not even surprised that not a single fan has left the stadium, the fans loyal to a fault. She’s still trying to find him when the stadium camera’s zoom in on the bench and there he is. Eyes red and teary, a few wet streaks and Julian just staring into the distance. That’s the moment she started crying too.
She watched as Terzic went to Julian and patted him on the face. The camera’s stopped showing the bench after that and a few moments later Julian stepped back out on the pitch. She watched as he slowly made his way to his teammates in front of the yellow wall. He didn’t really approach anyone, just standing between everyone and she knows he is already closing himself off. The disappointment is clear everywhere and yet the yellow wall sings and they support their players. They clap for the yellow wall, apologizing to the fans and thanking them for their support.
She watches as Julian crouches down, hand going over his face. She grabs onto Jascha’s arm, who has been standing next to her the whole game. He looks down at her, eyes leaving his brother. He sees the pain on her face, the tears still streaming even if she wipes them every few minutes. He pulls his arm out of her grip and she looks up at him a little panicked. She’s scared that she had upset her younger brother-in-law, only to have him wrap his arm around her shoulders to help comfort her. In return she wraps an arm around his waist. She looks back to where she last saw Julian only to see his deflated form sitting near Nico.
All she wants to do is go to him, but she can’t. She’ll have to wait till he comes to her. She watches as the team gets up and goes to walk past the fans. The fans comfort the players as they walk by, a few of them giving away their jerseys, Julian included. And even though it really isn’t the time, she can’t help but admire Julian and his physique. She sees him shirtless all the time, but after a game it always hits differently. But it’s not just his physique, it’s the way he takes the time with fans, talks with them and shows them he is as disappointed as they are. And yet he appreciates every single fan. His introverted side is not in sight with the fans. But she knows that’ll change once they’re alone.
She notices that Jascha stopped rubbing her arm and that’s when she notices her tears have stopped as well. She turns to him and thanks him for being a brilliant brother-in-law. She spots Jannis still near the other photographers, he turns that exact moment and they lock eyes. He waves at her and she manages to wave back with a bittersweet smile before he turns back to take more pictures. That’s when Jascha softly squeezes her arm and she follows his gaze to the pitch. And she sees her favourite sweaty blonde walk towards them.
His head is down, but he walks with purpose.
She already has the boarding digging into her hips before he’s even close. But the second he’s close enough, her arms wrap around his shoulders. It’s as though a weight drops off his shoulders and he wraps his arms around her waist. They hide their faces against each other’s necks. She inhales his scent, a scent that’s pure Julian and she hears him do the same. She can’t help but tighten her grip on him a little and move one hand to his golden locks. He pulls her in a little closer and presses a few small, soft kisses to the nape of her neck.
“Ich bin so stolz auf dich, Schatzie.”
“Wofür? We drew the game and lost the title. We bottled it.”
She immediately pulls away and he looks at her a little offended that she’s pulled away from him so quickly. She immediately makes sure to make it up to him by putting her hands on his jaw and drawing his face closer to hers. His arms tighten around her again as she does so and she presses a few butterfly kisses across his face.
“I’m proud of you for the good times, the bad times and everything in between. You have given it your all, you all managed to get back from 9 points difference. You battled through an injury whilst being in your prime and you still managed to give Bayern the biggest challenge they’ve had in years. You, Julian Brandt, are one of the best players on this team and if you’d ask me alone, I’d tell everyone you are the best. For your spirit, your passion, your perseverance, your love for the club and the fans. You live and breathe football at this club Schatzie. And I wouldn’t be surprised if you’d end up being like Reus for the fans. You give everything and more Jule and you can’t imagine how proud I am that I get to call you mine.”
As she’s talking to him, she can see a few tears start to gather on his lashes again. He presses his forehead to hers and the smile he gives her is brighter than the sun. She returns the smile and presses a kiss to his lips. It’s sweet, loving and passionate all at once.
“Ich liebe dich.” He whispers against her lips and she smiles, returning the phrase to him.
It’s then that they realize where they are and that they’re not alone. Julian presses another quick kiss against her lips before going to hug Jascha, who is giving him a mischievous look. Both Julian and her give Jascha suspicious looks but he just waves them away. They share a look but let it go. Mats approaches them to tell Julian that they have to go inside. Julian nods and turns back to her one more time. He presses another kiss to her lips.
“Will you wait for me here in the stadium?” She nods at him and presses another kiss to his lips.
As he makes his way to the dressing room, she and Jascha head inside to wait for Julian in the family area. She gets the chance to ask Jascha what his mischievous look was for. He just glances at her and tells her to look at her phone. She gives him a confused look but does as he says. She sees a few messages from him and the second she opens them, she knows why he was acting that way. He took some pictures of her interaction with Julian. And she can’t help but feel happy that he did. It’s clear in the pictures that they clearly love each other very much and she knows she’ll definitely use one as her background and that she’ll hang a few in their apartment.
“Danke, Jascha.”
Jascha just shrugs and gives her a wink. They talk for about 20 minutes and during that time Jannis has joined them. He’s showing her some of the pictures he made when some players finally enter the room. Julian makes an immediate beeline towards them, ignoring everyone else and she knows he’s in his own headspace now. He gives Jannis a slap on his back and then moves to wrap his arm around her. He stands close to her, now without the boarding between them. His forehead leans against her temple and she runs a hand through his still partially wet hair.
They go home soon after that and once home they order some food and crash on the couch. He’s quiet as he hands her the remote for the tv. He makes sure she’s in the corner of the couch and then goes to lie down between her legs, his front pressed against hers, head on her chest. She chooses a series and runs her fingers through his hair as they wait for their food. They don’t talk and she knows Julian isn’t paying attention to the tv. He’s in his own head, thinking of today’s outcome.
They eat in silence once the food arrives and then move to their bed. She knows he needs his own headspace to get over it and she lets him approach her if he needs anything. She’s used to it and she knows it’s what he’s most comfortable with. He’s in bed before her, but the second she gets on the bed he immediately pulls her to him. He pulls her as close to him as he can, her head on his chest this time and the sound of his heartbeat calms her completely. His scent envelopes her again and she sighs in complete content, making Julian smile and press a kiss to her hairline.
“Danke, meine Liebe. Ich liebe dich.”
"Natürlich, Schatzie. Ich liebe dich für immer.”
This time it’s Julian that sighs in content. He presses one more kiss to her hairline and then they both drift off.
Ich bin so stolz auf dich, Schatzie: I am so proud of you darling Wofür?: For what? Ich liebe dich (für immer): I love you (always/forever) Danke: thank you Meine Liebe: my love Natürlich: of course

Historisieren

Rebus BBC reboot: Release date, cast, plot and trailer
Everything you need to know about the BBC reboot starring Richard Rankin.
Tumblr media
BBC
Abby Robinson
Published: Friday, 10 May 2024 at 2:30 pm
Ian Rankin's long-running detective novel series Inspector Rebus, which was previously adapted into a series for ITV, first starring John Hannah followed by Ken Stott, has once again been given the TV treatment – this time for the BBC.
Gregory Burke has taken on the writing mantle, with star Lucie Shorthouse describing his work as a "reimagining" of the source material, adding: "Even though the characters are obviously different, I think if you're a fan of the books, hopefully you'll spot those similarities.
"And it's another way to enjoy the story. It's another format to appreciate that level of storytelling.".
Her co-star Brian Ferguson added: "It's built on the Rebus novels, which is such an amazing foundation to work from, but then I think what's really exciting is that at the beginning of this, Ian Rankin did say to Gregory Burke, 'You take these and make them yours.'
"And Greg really has. They feel like a response to the original novels, rather than a faithful adaptation. And by blending those two together, it gives out a whole new life."
Rebus release date: When will it air?
All six episodes of Rebus will arrive on BBC iPlayer on Friday 17th May at 6am.
Episode 1 will also air on BBC Scotland on Friday 17th May at 10pm, and on BBC One on Saturday 18th May at 9:25pm.
Rebus cast: Who stars?
Tumblr media
Brian Ferguson as Michael Rebus and Richard Rankin as John Rebus. BBC/Viaplay /Eleventh Hour/Mark Mainz
Richard Rankin, best known for Outlander and The Replacement, stars as title character John Rebus.
He's joined by Brian Ferguson (The Ipcress File, Spanish Princess) as John's brother Michael and Lucie Shorthouse (Line of Duty, Ten Percent) as Detective Constable Siobhan Clarke, Rebus's investigation partner.
The rest of the cast includes:
Amy Manson (The Nevers, The Diplomat)
Neshla Caplan (The Rig, Scot Squad)
Noof Ousellam (Vigil, Guilt)
Stuart Bowman (The Serpent, Bodyguard)
Caroline Lee Johnson (Trying, Ridley)
Sean Buchanan (Censor, Mary Queen of Scots)
Thoren Ferguson (The Midwich Cuckoos)
Michelle Duncan (Baptise, Elizabeth Is Missing)
Rebus plot: What will happen?
When we first meet our lead, who's been reimagined as a younger detective sergeant, he's "at odds with a job increasingly driven by corporate technocrats", wrapped up in a "toxic affair" that he needs to walk away from, and his ex-wife's new husband is impeding his relationship with his daughter.
"Rebus begins to wonder if he still has a role to play – either as a family man or a police officer," adds the official synopsis.
There's also Rebus's brother Michael, a former soldier with financial problems who creates an almighty mess of his own.
Michael "desperately crosses the line in order to provide for his family, and Rebus starts to question if the law still has meaning, or if everyone is reverting to an older set of rules".
"If so, why shouldn't he do so too?" continues the log line.
Rebus trailer: When can I watch it?
Right now.

Highlights from no-equipment birdwatching in Germany
I didn't bring any birding equipment on my recent trip to Germany. However, I did still see some birds I could identify.
The first day and a half were spent at the home of my in-law-in-laws in Mainz. Their apartment is a few storeys above ground level, so one can see into the tree canopy out the windows, plus they have a bird feeder on their balcony. While there, I saw common wood-pigeons, rose-ringed parakeets (there's an established population descended from escaped/released pets, despite the cold winters), a carrion crow, a great tit, a Eurasian blue tit, Eurasian blackbirds, and European goldfinches. None of these were new to me, but since we don't have them in California, they're all kind of exciting to see.
The second day and a half were spent at the home of my father-in-law. In his backyard, I spotted several of the same birds, plus a Eurasian magpie. And the funeral reception was held at a golf course/country club with a pond that was home to Egyptian geese (my first in a place where they have become naturalised, so they are finally on my life list, even though this is a bird I've seen in two other geographical areas--in Italy last summer and in Southern California last month) and grey herons.
I had a 6-hour layover in Munich. I didn't see any noteworthy birds in the city (though the tulips and the hail were certainly noteworthy!), but while taxiing to and from the gate, I did spot what must have been Eurasian kestrels from the window of the plane. Based on shape, behavior, and habitat, I'm certain of that ID, but I wish I'd had binoculars to get a good look at them--that's a new one on my life list.

Hungarian Operahouse
The round ceiling of the grand auditorium is decorated by a monumental fresco entitled the Apotheosis of Music painted by one of the most significant painters of the 19th century, Károly Lotz (1833-1904). The painting blends perfectly into the neo-renaissance style of the building despite its dynamism characteristic to baroque works. In the focus of the fresco, Apollo can be seen playing the lute while the gods and goddesses of Olympus along with the graces and muses listen to his performance. The centre of the ceiling is dominated by the chandelier manufactured in Maniz designed by architect Miklós Ybl. Among the numerous figures in the fresco, all the important Greek gods and goddesses can be spotted such as Aphrodite, goddess of beauty and love. The monumental fresco is 45 metres in perimeter and 9 metres in diameter. It is the absolute masterpiece of its painter Károly Lotz, who painted several frescos in other significant Hungarain monuments. The central figure of the fresco is Apollo, god of music and poetry. He is surrounded by the twelve major gods and goddesses as well as their entourage. Aphrodite, the goddess of love is observing her own beauty in a mirror held by a putto. On the right, Zeus, the king of gods is sitting on his throne along with his wife Hera, the goddess of women an mariiage. In this part of the fresco, the central figure is Nike, the goddess of victory. Other significant gods around her are Dionysus, god of wine and fertility, Poseidon, god of all seas (recognizable for his trident), Zephyrus, god of the west wind, and Boreas, god of the cold north wind. The chandelier was also designed by the architect of the Opera House, Miklós Ybl, and it was manufactured in Mainz. Originally, it was lit up by gas, later electricity was introduced. It weighs almost 3 tons and has about 240 light bulbs. Twice a year, it is lowered to the floor manually for maintenance.

Dortmund faces Augsburg away on Sunday. If it wins that game, and its final game at home to Mainz next weekend, Dortmund would end Bayern’s 10-year reign as German champion.
Bayern Munich wasted its lead on Saturday as Leipzig dug out from a deficit to win 3-1 in the Bundesliga, allowing Borussia Dortmund the opportunity to move top going into the last end of the week.
Bayern simply had to dominate its last two matches to make certain of asserting its record-expanding eleventh continuous title, yet Leipzig's shock win in Munich gave Dortmund the drive.
Dortmund faces Augsburg away on Sunday. In the event that it dominates that match, and its last game at home to Mainz one weekend from now, Dortmund would end Bayern's 10-year rule as German hero.
It had begun so well for the Bavarian force to be reckoned with, which ruled the initial half hour against the wary guests.
Thomas Müller - making his second back to back begin for Bayern - set up Serge Gnabry for the opener in the 25th moment.
In any case, Leipzig answered with three great possibilities in succession in the 34th, 35th and 36th. Yann Sommer answered with three great recoveries.
Konrad Laimer, who is supposedly set to join Bayern next season, scored a merited balancer in the 64th, then, at that point, Christopher Nkunku scored from the punishment spot in the 76th after he was fouled nearby by countryman Benjamin Pavard.
Dominik Szoboszlai fixed it with one more punishment in the 85th after Noussair Mazraoui was punished for handball.Leipzig merged third spot and gotten its Bosses Association capability place for next season.Bayern faces Cologne away for its last game and must now likewise expect a Dortmund goof.
Hertha Berlin consigned
Hertha Berlin was consigned from the Bundesliga in the wake of surrendering in the fourth moment of injury time to draw with Bochum 1-1.
Previous Association Berlin safeguard Keven Schlotterbeck headed the objective that sent Hertha down to the subsequent division.
It's Hertha's seventh transfer from the Bundesliga. Just Nuremberg (nine) and Arminia Bielefeld (eight) have been downgraded more times.
Hertha required a success to delay the transfer choices to the last day of the time and it was solid for the host group after Lucas Tousart at last made the forward leap with a header to Marco Richter's corner in the 64th moment.
"We weren't consigned today. Today we really conveyed a decent game," Hertha mentor Pál Dárdai said. "We ought to have killed the game, we had five or six great possibilities. We ought not be embarrassed about our presentation. That's what the fans saw."
The two groups hit the post in the last minutes before Schlotterbeck was left unopposed to head Kevin Stöger's corner past Oliver Christensen in the Hertha objective.
It guaranteed Hertha remained last without any possibility completing over the last two. Bochum was undependable yet.
Schlotterbeck and his Bochum partners hurried to celebrate before the meeting fans, while the remainder of the arena was left in paralyzed quiet. Some Hertha fans set off clearly bangers that resonated around Olympiastadion, while there were boos and whistles from certain allies when the group moved toward after the last whistle.click here
"I can barely handle it, it's simply miserable," Hertha veteran Ruler Boateng said with tears in his eyes. "I love the club and came here knowing it's not all blushing. Presently have the opportunity to refocus and reinforce the club, regardless of whether it's in the subsequent division."

Liverpool confirmed Sepp van den Berg will spend another season out on loan in Germany
Tumblr media
Liverpool confirmed Sepp van den Berg will spend another season out on loan in Germany Liverpool has officially announced that Sepp van den Berg, a 21-year-old player, will be sent on loan to Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga for the upcoming season.  This will be his second consecutive loan spell in Germany, as he had previously played for Schalke 04 last season.  Van den Berg's loan move to Mainz makes him the sixth player from Liverpool to be loaned out this summer, joining Calvin Ramsay (loaned to Preston), Rhys Williams (loaned to Aberdeen), Harvey Davies (loaned to Crewe), Fabio Carvalho (loaned to RB Leipzig), and Owen Beck (loaned to Dundee). Despite spending almost five years with Liverpool, Sepp van den Berg has only managed to make four appearances for the senior team. These appearances occurred during the 2019/20 season and were limited to domestic cup competitions.  Following his time at Liverpool, he was loaned out to Preston and later to Schalke. Unfortunately, his progress at Schalke was hindered by an ankle ligament injury, which kept him out of action for several months.  Although he returned to the team, he couldn't prevent Schalke from being relegated from the Bundesliga. With his loan move to Mainz, van den Berg hopes for better fortune both personally and as part of the team.  Mainz has consistently finished in the top half of the table for the past two seasons and has even contended for European qualification. Former Liverpool underage coach Neil Critchley had praised Sepp van den Berg as a teenager, describing him as "very cool and calm on the ball" and "really assured."  These comments indicate his strong potential, and with his experience in a major league, he is likely to have further developed and become more comfortable on the field. Considering the possibility of some center-back departures from Liverpool in 2024, there is a chance for the 21-year-old van den Berg to earn a regular spot in Jurgen Klopp's plans if his current loan spell in Germany goes well.  After the setbacks he faced in the 2022/23 season, it is hoped that he will have better luck and success in the upcoming season.
