Thank you St Gertrude and St Francis for answering my prayers about my cat last night when no one could help me get him to an er.
Likes to send more prayers their way 馃檹 and prove to my mother it is not his time to go home like she tried to say on the phone last night.

Today is not only St Patrick's Day; it is also the Feast Day of Gertrude of Nivelles, the seventh-century woman who was known for her hospitality. She is also considered to be the patron saint of cats.
Gertrude lived in what is today Belgium, but she had close ties with Irish monasteries. Her Vita states that Gertrude was "an intelligent young woman, scholarly and charitable, devoting herself to the sick, elderly, and poor," who memorized much of the Bible, as well as books on theology and law. She cared for orphans, widows, captives, and travelers鈥攁nd welcomed cats into her home. She is also considered the patron saint of the recently deceased, those with mental illness...and anyone who has a morbid fear of mice!

With the 17th day of March approaching, please consider:
St聽Gertrude聽of聽Nivelles
Patron of Cats, the Recently Diseased, Gardeners, Travelers, Those with Mental Illness, and Those with a Morbid Fear of Mice and Rats.
Ok but why is she the patron saint of cats?
No, it's not because she really liked cats.
It's because she was good at doing cat things, like keeping mice and rats away. And spacing out - they say she spent most of her time in contemplation and such, to the point where she died from not doing pretty much anything else.
Who among us hasn't had that happen.
Also she was in with god to get people released from purgatory. Mighty decent of her.

Saint Gertrude of Nivelles
626 - 659
Feast Day: March 17
Patronage: cats, rat and mice infestation, mental illness, travelers, gardens
Saint Gertrude of Nivelles was a noble-born from saintly parents. At 10 she refused any and all marriage prospects. At 13, after her father died, Gertrude founded the Benedictine Abbey of Nivelles with her mother and was installed as abbess in 639. The Abbey's hospitality welcomed travelers, wishing them no misfortune. She was a mystic, who helped the poor, elderly, and sick. Townspeople called her to ward off rat and mice infestation thus becoming the patron of cats. She died in March at age 33 after a life of prayer and penance, becoming the patron of gardens because of the prospect of fair weather.聽
