Nightmare and his baby gang Chapter 16

Previous chapter

Blue didn’t know how many times he was in that dungeon but time sure felt long. He wondered if Dream and Ink were doing fine without him. He hoped they wouldn’t totally freak out, Dream was terrible under pressure and Ink was a mess when he was stressed out.

Since he was in Nightmare’s castle things started to get weird. When he started wandering in order to find the exit Blue got lost. How did Nightmare and his gang do to find their way into this maze? He ended up in a children's room and amazed by the stars-shaped furniture he stayed there longer than he needed to. He and his lovers always thought that the kid would be in danger here with Nightmare but what if they weren’t? Nightmare seemed very protective of them.

Blue really didn’t do anything right that day…First, he fought with Error and said horrid things to him and then he scared children to death and mistake Nightmare's intention. He really screwed everything up…

“There a lot of negative emotion from you little Blue. What’s wrong something’s on your mind?” Nightmare asked in the shadows.

Blue avoided the guardian’s look, guilty. Nightmare came at least three times a day and always had food with him for his prisoner. Honestly Blue didn’t know what to think anymore, Nightmare didn’t look like the big bad guy he pictured when Dream told him his story.

“I’m trying to understand. Things aren’t like I expected them to be.”

“Oh? And what were you expecting?” Nightmare said with a grin.

Since that Blueberry came into his castle and he locked him up, his negativity reserves were slightly better than it previously was but it wasn’t enough. He felt as if someone was trying to lure him with food only for taking it away from him. Blue didn’t feel negative enough to feed him correctly and like he couldn’t leave the kids alone, he was starving.

Error refused to talk to Blue or to see him. Nightmare finally got him on the phone two days ago only for the destroyer to scream at him that he didn’t want to see the Blueberry anymore and that he won’t come to get him. Nightmare noticed how his friend’s voice sounded, broken and sad and he hated Blue for that.

“Forget it. Instead, tell me what did you do or said to Error.”

Blue tensed when he heard that and his guilt increased. He saw how Nightmare gasped when his negative emotions grew. Weird. He always thought that he liked negativity. There he seemed to only be wrong when it concerned Nightmare and Error. So in a tentative to make the guardian feel better, he lowered his emotions like he learned to do with Dream.

“I was angry and I didn’t control what I said…I told him horrible things…He probably doesn’t want to see me anymore.” Blue said sighing and hoping Error would forgive him someday.

“Well you’re right on one point he doesn’t want anything to do with you. But you should know that Error changes his mind pretty often. Just wait and he’ll come back.” Nightmare said approaching Blue with a furious expression. “The only reason you’re still alive is that he cares about you. Hurt him like that at least one more time and I won’t hesitate to end your miserable life. Understood?”

Blue slowly nodded and Nightmare gave him a plate of food before leaving him alone in the dark cell again. The little warrior sighed. He wondered how many times he will be able to bare with the situation. He hated being alone and especially in the dark. Candles were all that was lighting up the place but there wasn’t a lot of them and they were almost completely burned.

He was about to eat when a little head appeared in the corner of the stairs. The little skeleton had black tears on his face and a target-shaped soul. Killer!

Blue looked at the little child that shouldn’t be older than six years old coming closer to him. He had a serious and determined expression on his face but it couldn’t take away the fact that he was adorable. It was hard to see the fearless warrior and murderer that Blue fought against for the past few years, in that child.

“Killer, what are you doing here?” He asked a little scared that Nightmare learned that one of his gang members approached him. Blue was pretty sure that the guardian’s anger would be on him even if he didn’t do anything.

Killer looked at him surprised, the child gasped and hurry to get close to the prisoner.

“How do you know my name?! I know dad didn’t tell you anything about us!”He exclaimed now looking mad at Blue who looked at him like he had a second head.

Too shocked by Killer’s appellation for the guardian of negativity Blue didn’t answer. Dad?! Did he say, Dad?! Oh man, Blue screwed up way more than he thought… Of course, Nightmare would be mad if he went into the room of his children!

Wait does that mean Dream Ink and he were uncles?! Technically he married Dream and Ink for two years now and Dream was Nightmare’s twin brother so they were his nephews. And technically his too… He was the worst uncle ever…

“I’m your uncle so I had to at least know your name, right?” Blue tried with a forced smile on his face.

While Blue tried to understand why the little murderer didn’t remember him at least as an enemy Killer looked at him shocked by this new revelation. His dad never mentioned having a brother, he could kinda see the resemblance between that Blue guy and his father but still…It was weird, even for him.

“We don’t have an uncle! You’re lying!”

Blue honestly didn’t know how to respond. He wasn’t lying but he knew that saying that to Killer would only make their discussion pointless because he wouldn’t admit he didn’t know about it. If he didn’t remember him then he wouldn’t remember Dream.

“If it’s what you think.” Blue calmly responded.

After a long moment of silence and reflection for Killer, the little skeleton looked concerned.

“Are you evil?”

Blue put his plate down, surprised by the question. If there was one he didn’t expect it was this one. Of course, he wasn’t evil! He fought the bad guys for a happy universe. The only people he hurted were- Oh…Now he got it. Killer was scared that he hurted his family, for them the bad guys were Blue and his lovers. The child couldn’t understand that what his father was doing was wrong…How could he? At this age children barely know what was wrong or right.

“I try to not be. I don’t think I’m evil but well…I guess it depends on the point of view.”

“The point of view?”

“Yeah. I mean when your dad hurt my family he is evil for us but when I hurt your dad I’m pretty sure I’m evil for you…” Blue answered not really sure if Killer would understand it.

“Will you hurt my dad now?”

Blue shivered at the cold and emotionless voice that Killer suddenly took. It was really far away from the sweet kid’s voice he heard when the boy previously talked.

“No. Not if he doesn’t hurt me. I defend myself, Killer, I won't attack your father first.”

Blue could tell that the child was confused and honestly, he understood why. Nightmare had been hurt a lot in his last raid and the gang probably think of them as some kind of heartless monster. But now Blue understood a little better the situation he won’t hurt Nightmare. Killer wanted to say something else but then a loud scream resonated in the cold dungeon.

“KILLER! You better go back into the living room quickly because if you’re not there in five seconds you’ll be in serious trouble, young man!” Nightmare furiously screamed after appearing behind the child’s back.

Killer shrieked when he saw how angry Nightmare was and honestly if Blue wasn’t a great and trained warrior he would have too. Nightmare was terrifying right now.

“But dad! I had to check if he wasn’t dangerous!”

“That’s my job, not yours. Now go back upstairs or you’ll be in serious trouble. You’re deprived of apple pie for dinner.” Nightmare said with a tone of voice that made it clear that there wasn’t any discussion. He was so intimidating that Blue wanted to go upstairs with Killer.

“Nooo! Not the apple pie!! Dad please!”Killer gasped shocked when he understood the punishment.

“Hurry and go!”

The little murderer went upstairs as quickly as he could, already whining about the apple pie that he loved. Blue looked at the child a little sorry for him, if Nightmare’s apple pie was as good as Dream’s then it was indeed a big punishment. Even Ink behaved when the apple pie was in the game.

“As for you…” Nightmare hissed turning toward his prisoner. “Don’t you dare to fill my boys’ heads with lies and facking promises! They’re staying here and if you try to take them away from me I’ll make life in this multiverse a living for anyone who dares to go against me!!”

Blue gulped, he has no doubt that Nightmare would put his sayings into action. After understanding how deeply Nightmare cared for the boys he didn’t want to take them with him anymore. Nobody should separate a family, the only reason he wanted them out of the castle was that he thought they would be in danger. If they weren’t it was better if they all stayed together.

“I-I don’t want to take your children away from you..I-we fought they were in danger but…It appeared it was not the case…I’m sorry for the mess upstairs and scaring them…”

Nightmare looked at the little blue in front of him with a suspicious look, he wasn’t buying it. He knew that Blue would always be loyal to Dream and Dream only wanted him to be miserable again. He would take his kids away from him! He would bring him back to that damn village! He would…

The guardian noticed how shaking his hands were and pushed the thought as away as he could. He was with Blue he shouldn’t show any weaknesses.

“Let’s suppose that I’m believing you for a second. What were you doing in their room?! Do you honestly think I don’t know your scheme?! You only want to get them and then go back to Dream like a little hero!”

Blue kept for himself his reflection about how little time the I believe you lasted. Blue knew that he and the guardian didn’t have the best relationship but it still hurted to see how low he thought he was. Then he had an idea, it would probably sound dumb to Nightmare but it was the only thing that he could think about for gaining the guardian’s trust.

“How about I swear it on my soul? I won’t hurt your kid or take them to Dream. I won’t take your family away from you!”

Soul’s promises were rare things only present in a few universes. It was a serious oath and if the monster who made it broke it then his soul would belong to the other’s side. No one jocked with Soul’s promises, even Ink who didn’t have a soul knew how serious they were.

Nightmare was surprised by his offer but not repulsed by the idea. He had nothing to lose and everything to win if Blue made one of those oaths.

“If you do that I’ll let you get out of your cell. But you won’t be able to communicate or flee away from the castle. I don’t fully trust you yet, even with a Soul’s promise.”

Blue looked at Nightmare with the biggest smile he ever did since he was in Nightmare’s castle, it wasn’t really hard but still. If Nightmare let him out then he wouldn’t be alone in the dark like he feared! He could also excuse himself to the boys.

‘Then I Blue from Underswap, swear on my soul that I will never hurt any of your children. I won’t take your family away from you.”

It seemed to ease the guardian’s fear because he let him out of the cell once the oath had been taken. Now that Blue was unable to harm the children or take them away from him, Nightmare felt way better. The little blue couldn’t make portals so he was stuck here until Error came back. There was no way Nightmare would face Dream with his disappeared friend in his hands. Error made this mess he was going to fix it by himself!

“Now follow me little Blue and don’t forget your oath. It’s your life now.”
