#star trek kelvin timeline
My mother and I were watching Star Trek Into Darkness tonight (I'm not feeling well and we love to watch these movies together)
Well we got through the first scene, when Spock is in the volcano and Kirk asks Bones, "If I was there and Spock was here, what would he do?" And Bones replies, "He'd let you die."
Just... I have to say, I know there are a lot of points in that movie that revolve around the sentiment of Spock following the rules and regulations and protocols of Starfleet without hesitation. But there's something in Kirk's eyes when Bones says that, this flash like how can you possibly believe that?
I just know Kirk never fully believed that. He can't. I feel like a big part of the foundation of their friendship in the Kelvin timeline is rooted in Spock's human-side. Kirk knows it's there, just beneath the surface, well controlled but still there
Kirk hears Bones. Understands his concerns even. But doesn't believe them.
Thank you for coming to my strep throat induced TED talk.

The key to understanding Leonard McCoy is that he only ACTS like he hates everyone and everything. Underneath that sarcastic abrasive middle aged man is a fundamental love for living creatures, desire to help others so strong that he made a career of it and a respect for the simple joys, which occasionally show their face when he's turning on the southern charm for a woman or offering to sacrifice himself to save a patient. I mean, you'd probably be a bit grumpy too if your marriage ended and you were stuck in space (a place you hate) trying to stop your best friends getting themselves killed when you could be spending time with your daughter. He's not surly and outspoken because he doesn't care, he's surly and outspoken precisely because he cares so much and yes, that has got him hurt before and probably will again but dammit, he's not going to let that stop him being what he is - an old country doctor who will do anything he can to help people. I love his sardonic witty banter as much as anyone but I think the real reason we take him into our hearts is because despite his complaining he's arguably the most down-to-earth, no-nonsense character in TOS and deep down we all admire his simple selfless dedication to caring for others. Never change, Bones.

One of the funniest things about the Kelvin alternate timeline is the fact that Jonathan Archer is a) still alive, b) still in Starfleet, and c) seems to have taken up breeding beagles whilst teaching courses at the Academy and Scotty lost his best one in a transporter accident.
One of the movie writers even confirmed that this is meant to be that Jonathan Archer, same as the Prime timeline, but this motherfucker is like 146 years old and still turning up to teach these young hooligans that space is dangerous and aliens can be unreasonably mean.
I'm headcanoning that in both timelines the usual lifespan for Humans and Andorians is about 120 years but Archer and Shran are beating the odds by fondly arguing every day with neither wanting to die before getting the last word in. A strategy Bones would later employ. (No, seriously, Bones in the Prime timeline got to 137+. Via spite, I think.)

This April Fools, I thought it was only fitting that I finally share the greatest powerpoint I ever made while working a mentally and physically draining fulltime retail job at 18. This is my pride and joy. I hope you enjoy <3

Happy Birthday, golden boi ✨ Kirk's character is all about being completely himself! Love this chaotic ball of charisma, talent, and bravery. 😊
.
Edit: I just recalled that Kelvin timeline Kirk possibly has a different birthday. Still I'm gonna keep this post. It's his character I was talking about and Pine's portrayal of Kirk is really nice.

I've been thinking a lot about Khan lately and those ancient-seeming days when he fired my imagination so powerfully that the words flowed easily onto the page. Both in fics and in rp. I was always especially proud of the backstory I created for him (beyond the bare facts of the past that he is given in 'Star Trek: Into Darkness'), which was inspired by Benedict's many-layered characterization. There was enough pathos in his performance to make me believe that Khan became the compelling villain we saw onscreen from a good share of angst in his past. In his fierce loyalty to his people I caught a glimpse of his better self.

So, it naturally follows that I'd love to share some of my Khan writing again here. Sadly, I face two obstacles. First, I only have my phone to work on, and try as I might, I haven't been able to copy/paste the chapters from AO3 & FFN. I'm restricted to whatever already exists here on tumblr. Second--and frankly to my keen disappointment--I know from past experience that what I may be able to share here will likely be ignored. And I'm utterly disheartened at that sad fact.
But as it's my day off, and what's on television today pretty much sucks ( where's a LotR marathon when you really need one!😏), I may end up posting some snippets to fill my time and feed my mind. Telling myself it's not just a lesson in futility, though I only half believe that. Hoping a few Readers here will prove me wrong.
