desperate times call...

...for desperate measures.

I originally posted this in early June as I knew I'd run into financial difficulties before the month was through. As I am, indeed, facing them now. I was blessed enough then to raise the money I needed to be able to keep my room (and right now, I'm triplely grateful as we've been experiencing a wicked heatwave [earlier today it hit 98F, with a 'feels like' temp of 112F; tomorrow is gonna be even worse] and there is no way I could survive spending nights in my car under these conditions). I'm down to $50 for food & gas for the next ten days, and this time, I can't get a cash advance. Although I know everyone is pretty much tapped out, I need to try and raise funds to keep me housed from June 29 - July 12...

A small bit of "good" news: as my sister is having major surgery sometime in October/November, I suggested I could stay with her the 6-8 weeks of her recovery as she will be severely mobility restricted. My state offers paid leave (at a reduced pay rate) if someone is caring for an immediate family member, so I will at least be collecting a paycheck (as she lives 90+ miles from my job). So, at least I'll have free shelter for that time period.

At least for now. I've put this off for as long as I could, but as much as I hate resorting to it again, I have to ask for help.

I spent the last of my resources yesterday to pay for a room this week--leaving me with literally $5.60 to my name. I'm rationing my food right now and will likely run out by Wednesday suppertime (which also means no birthday cake tomorrow, let alone even a slice). Trying my best to stay upbeat and not worry about what comes next week. While praying that I can get some sort of advance on my pay (which is complicated by the fact that my State I.D. got lost on the way to a friend's address it was supposed to be forwarded to; Management is not inclined to make an exception for the transaction without it). So, any donations would be greatly appreciated, along with reblogs of this post...and of course, your prayers.

Ultimately, I'm also going to need to raise some funds to cover lodging for next week, as I don't get paid again until June 18th. I will be reblogging this post daily, so if you don't want to keep seeing it, you can block the tag #coping with homelessness.

The lenses pop out from time to time. This happened Tuesday morning. Took me almost a half hour to find it, as it skittered under the bed.

Yeah, of course I know that like 128 million people are suffering through this wicked North American heat wave. We're all in it, doing the best we can to survive.

Today, though, a coworker grabbed an outdoor thermometer from the Hardware department and brought it up to the Service Desk to get a reading on how ungodly hot it is. Because store climate is controlled at Home Office in freaking Arkansas--and because we have absolutely no air circulation in the SD work area (I do believe the overhead vents have been blocked for some time now), this is what I dealt with today:

Had to leave a little early as I was experiencing dizziness and nausea. I asked my immediate supervisor for a bottle of cold water (hoping to hold it to the back of my neck), but they had run out. She offered me a popsicle, though.🤨🙄 I picked red.
