I ended up playing Starbound throughout the entire holiday with friend...
After installing a bunch of mods, I created the in-game avatars of my OCs Bái Líng and Mò Huí, and had them go on adventures together.

Going down comfort video-game lane, returning to Starbound and staring a new modded file for Effie! Instead of her starlight white, she's more of a sunny colored Novakid with accents of blue. (Color variation from the Vibrant Novakids mod)
But she's still your adventuring southern belle with a whole bunch of voice logs on her SAIL!
I'm still rather early came in her file, but she's gotten one Fenerox companion named Bex and completed the intro quest for Captain Noble.

Welcome to my junk pile!
( This introduction has been and will continue to be edited whenever I see need to update it! The particulars will change overtime, though the gist will stay the same. ) Hello hello! TiredBot, or simply Tired, is what I go by, and he/they pronouns are what I use. I’ve been here for a little while now, but am new to posting and interacting with other users. I plan on this being a doodle and ramble blog of sorts to indulge my pinball machine of a brain; whatever I want to post whenever I want to post it. You can expect to see drawings, writings, and possible rabbit-hole ramblings of mine here, most of which will be regarding my various interests, or sometimes, regarding personal projects of my own. ( I may make separate, more specific blogs for different things later on. We’ll see where this goes. )
I detest AI; do not put anything of mine into AI systems of any sort if you’ve any decency. It steals the work of countless creatives, and many people use it to try and outright replace the people that pour real time and love into their crafts.
If you’d like to use anything I’ve made for nonprofit and/or personal use, just put credits to me somewhere that can be easily found. If any of my work happens to inspire you to create something, I would love to see it, and am happy to be tagged in it! Zero pressure on that, though, I just like seeing people's projects.
↓ More words about me and this blog under the cut! ↓
Since I expect this blog to end up having a lot of creatives' work in it, my own and others, I'd like to try and make sure people are being given credit. Sources (and links when appropriate) to things like sources of inspiration, a piece of media I am sharing, or just the origin to a skit I use for a sketch will be added somewhere in my posts. I certainly don't have the patience to be insanely meticulous, but I would still like to do my part to make sure the time and love folks put into their crafts is credited to them. I will ask people to tell me if they know of the origins to something that I’m posting about if I do not know. ( That being said, if I've posted something, and you don't see proper credits to the original creators, whether or not I've asked for people to tell me the origins of said media on the given post, please let me know! )
Here’s some things I like! Anything here is something I may post about or reblog a post of. (This will definitely expand and change overtime.)
Stardew Valley ( largely including mod content, such as Stardew Valley Expanded, or East Scarp )
Avatar the Last Airbender / The Legend of Korra
Fantasy Life (game by Level 5) (absolutely hyped for the new game coming out!)
Don’t Starve / Don’t Starve Together
The Dragon Prince (haven’t finished it yet)
Sun Haven
Terraria
Cult of the Lamb
Bee and Puppycat
Helluva Boss
Steven Universe
Minecraft
Palia
Starbound
Owl House
EPIC: The Musical
Moomin Valley
Adventure Time / Distant Lands / Fionna and Cake
Undertale / Deltarune
The Legend of Zelda (Especially Majora’s Mask and Twilight Princess)
The Amazing Digital Circus
Fields of Mistria
Studio Ghibli movies
Gravity Falls
Over the Garden Wall
Wakfu
ƎNA: Dream BBQ
Behavior like homophobia, transphobia, racism, sexism, or other forms of bigotry will not be given patience. I will simply block you if you show such behavior.
Don’t talk politics with me. Find someone else to bother if you’d like to talk politics. There's plenty out there who'd love to do so.
If you read all of that and are now here, congrats; you're like me! Hope you have fun here. Remember, you are cared about! Have a good day, and make sure to drink some water and eat some food. Or eat some water and drink some food, who am I to stop you?

Streaming Interest Check
After three years, I'm finally returning to daywalker status and will be operating on Normal American Hours. I've also been thinking of maybe starting to stream again (after not having done so since 2015).
Only problem is, I was never much of a game streamer Back in the Day™, and all of my go-to stream options (horrible fanfic, terrible hentai and copyrighted anime) would get me nuked from Twitch. So, I ask you, dear audience: What would you want to see me stream?
Here's a list of all games I currently have on Steam. Let me know if you can't access that and I'll make a Read More post or something.
Anyway, once I'm on my new schedule, I'll start doing some test streams over on https://www.twitch.tv/nostalgiachan. Help a girl out maybe?

Why I'm disappointed in Starbound (and why I still like it, somehow)
So, Starbound. It's an indie game you may or may not know of, whether you've seen it in furry art or heard people call it "ripoff Terraria" or something, or perhaps even played it. What is it, though?
To put it simply, Starbound is a 2D procedurally generated space adventuring game, created by Chucklefish. (I got some images from their press kit to show you what I mean.)
As you can see, there is a lot going on here. First off, there are multiple sapient alien species other than humans in Starbound (it's most obvious with the Floran in the third image) and there's also a distinct storyline to follow. All of that means lore, and this is where the issues start. Immediately.
Starbound takes the idea of "culture as costume" as a model to work off of, rather than a criticism. Take the Hylotl, a race of fish-people. Everything about their culture is taken directly from Japanese culture in real life - they have anime, samurai, and Japanese-inspired architecture. None of this, though, is very deep or well-thought-out. It's just kind of... there, you know? And this is how it is with most of Starbound's alien races (Avians are ripoff Mesoamericans in a lot of ways, Novakid are stereotypical cowboy Western characters) with only a couple of exceptions. At times, this weird lack of thought can be downright insulting, such as with the Floran - who are carelessly modeled after stereotypes of the "cannibal tribe." There are also over a dozen races in the game, and you can only play as seven of them. The others' lore is even less thought out.
Now, you would think that the actual story would be better, right? Well... sort of. The overarching enemy is an entity called "The Ruin," which is a literal living eldritch planet monster (which you kill at the end of the game in a scene much more badass than anything else Chucklefish came up with) which is being aided by a xenophobic human cult that is trying to wipe out all of the other races in the universe. Pretty interesting, aside from the very generic name... but the generic name gives it away. Not only is the Ruin one side of a pure good/evil dichotomy - which, in my opinion, is a bit of a tired way of doing things - but the rest of the writing just feels lazy. Not enough actual eldritch horror in the story where the big bad is an eldritch horror, and not enough focus on the space xenophobes' xenophobia. When you play through it, it feels kind of cheap, and as someone who talks a lot about lore (and writes fanfiction) I have issues with that. But the problems don't stop there.
Guess why it feels cheap? Because it is.
Starbound is one of the worst optimized games I've ever played, up there with things like Pokemon Scarlet/Violet - possibly even worse - and is riddled with half-baked mechanics and terribly shoehorned game progression and design. (Multiplayer in particular is horrific - the game has no strict physics update at all, which basically means people playing the game at different FPS play it at different speeds. As you can imagine, this ends terribly for all involved.) All this is because Chucklefish used unpaid labor - often from teenagers trying to get into the game industry! So, of course, when these people inevitably left because they weren't paid, no one kept working on whatever they had been in charge of... it was a disaster. A total, unmitigated disaster. That's where Starbound stands today.
Unmodded Starbound, at least.
The core concepts of Starbound - bumming around on procedurally generated planets, questing, and being a space landlord, among other things - are still really cool. But it could have been so much cooler! Wasted potential in a way that no other game I've ever played is. This is where mods - and one mod in particular called Frackin' Universe - come in. Frackin' Universe does its very best to fill in the holes left in the basegame, and add new systems that rival some Minecraft tech mods in complexity. It can't fix everything, but it's the closest Starbound will ever get to being a really complete game. (Part of me really wishes I could take the IP from the idiots at Chucklefish and give it to the Frackin' Universe guys. They could make an excellent remake.)
That's it. That's the rant. I just... I really wish Starbound was a better game with development that hadn't been led by a moron who bailed from Re-Logic.
#starbound#this took so long to type up what the fuck#rant#to be clear I am laying ALL the blame for bad development on Finn Brice because it was his manipulation and stupidity that caused the issue#this is a lament more than a rant really#anti finn brice

For those who don’t know, there is an issue one might encounter while out adventuring that causes techs, ropes, grappling hooks, ect. from working. This is game breaking, as it causes certain shielded areas to become untraversible
Now, when a wayward starbounder gets stumped, the following exchange occurs:
Person A: Hey I’m having an issue with XYZ, I have tried this and that and it did not work, please please please please help
Then person B will selflessly take time out of their day to log on and patiently (or impatiently) ask person A for the log
Person A will oblige and then person B will say: Looks like such and such mod is having a problem, try uninstalling it and see if that helps
This is a near foolproof strategy to fix your starbound, BUT, not this time. While most starbound fuckups can be attributed to missing data or messed up files, this is not that
Here’s the deal...If you’re using a rope, or a fishing pole, or a broadsword’s special attack, the game disables your tech until the action is completed, but if the action gets interrupted or the hitbox fucks up or some such the action is not completed and you’re stuck with disabled tech. This almost never happens, you could play for hundreds and hundreds or hours and never trigger it. The log doesn’t catch it because it’s not scanning for one-in-a-bajillion tool jank, so some random mod takes the blame if uninstalling said mod HAPPENS to fix the issue
Other things that might or might not solve the problem include restarting your computer, deleting the tool that caused the issue, waiting for the problem to fix itself, and probably some other things, but the most direct way to deal with it is by simply equipping the tool that caused the issue and completing or cancelling the action it is trying to complete. In my case I cast my fishing pole and right clicked to cancel it
Starbound is a game
Pour one out for the starbound mods that have been unjustly accused of causing the can't-use-tech-or-rope bug 😔

So update on what happened re: Patching music into FU's music player I tried 5 different ways to patch additional music into FU's music player, including:
-Following the tutorial on how to do this from FU's githib
-Following a guide on how to do this from an old FU wiki for the music player
-Following along how to do it from this SB community post about it
-Reverse-engineering from/using FU's own music player code to try & get it to work
-Tracking down a Downloadable version of An Already Pre-Existing musicplayer patch that Someone ELSE made just to copy-paste the code from THAT+applying my assets to it
I have loaded each version of the mod patch one at a time in subsequent tests with each different attempted iteration with , and still Not a Single One Has Worked and I STILL Do Not Know Why
-At this point I think I am just going to try & make My Own Separate Mod to get what I'm looking for bcuz IDK WHAT is up w/FU's coding that's making it Absolutely Refuse music player patches for it specifically;;;;

Did you know the felin, those cats that @letrune and I came up with as a Starbound mod, are much more than just that? Those who have seen my adventure game project (which I really ought to pick back up) might, but just in case, there's a whole wiki for them.
Firrhna Project Wiki
Now, I'd like to consider the felin to be a fairly open species, in that anyone can have a felin OC. And just so they're actually portrayed as such, there's the big reference guide.
If you have any questions about things, don't hesitate to ask!
#felin#open species#invitation#i'll admit to a bit of envy involving the avali but that's all i'll say about that#fooneboost#firrhna project

This is somewhat a sequel to this
We finally beat all of the main bosses (I assume anyway) so we decided to start a new save using the Frackin’ universe mod! But The idea of our adventure ending freaked me out a bit.
Also yes my friend starbound veteran ™️ just talks like that sometimes

Den Gulerød Lagune
«Translated from an advertising pamphlet written in Frögg»
Every adventurer needs to take a break, lest they be broken. And what better way for the adventurous sort to relax than by the power of lava!
During your visit, we invite you to recline in the lagoon's healing waters, heated to a beautiful temperature by the lava below. The alluvial mud does wonders for your skin, and the nourishing and softening effects are particularly effective for creatures with porous skin types.
After a relaxing dip, we invite you to take advantage of our spa and have all those battle-knots eased out by our certified masseuses. What could be better after all that than to partake in a healthy snack and have a well-deserved nap in our 5-star hotel.
We look forward to your visit!
Built for the Starbound Autumn prompt "hot drink", and the Summer prompt "resort".
Mods used: Foodie's Furniture, WW Furnishing, Prop Pack, nuggubs' Mega Mod, Pixel/ Fixel Goods Store, Frogg Furnishing Plus.

Little Blocks that Matter
Do I understand how to decorate? Of course not.
The amount of dedication that some Starbound and Terraria users put out is staggering. Huge murals of pixel art scenes and giant castles. I can't wrap my head around all this creativity that people can do. It's a stellar outlet for expression and there have been a few good attempts to recapture this specific genre's ability to do just that.
Unfortunately we've moved past that era, and while I think the genre of block and pixel games are at it's end. There had been three large representatives in this odd war, each bringing with it's own flavor to the game.
Minecraft is of course the heavy hitter of the three. Backed by Microsoft's almost unlimited resources and influence, it's grown to become one of the most influential games of the past decade, selling millions of copies across the globe, spawning a host of YouTube personalities and a gigantic modding community, it's the beast that cannot be stopped at this time.
It's bringing familiar franchises under it's boughs now. Sonic recently joined the fray, seemingly turning the game into a blocky "Sonic Adventure" type game with various secrets, ring collection, and a strong attention to detail with little emotes your frilled companions can do. But they've done the same treatment with turning minecraft into Tattooine, letting you go on a Jedi-flavored adventure. Adventure time also got it's time to shine with various swords and odd magic.
The Teknik pack is also a trip and a half, adding industrialization to the game, turning mining into a complex chain of tubes and belts and powerplants. Modders have added weapon production, guns, magic, rituals, and some of the more creative designs to monsters, like the "Parasite Invasion" mod that added Thing flavored monsters and mutations to the world, turning entire biomes into terrifying alien landscapes.
Terraria was launched around the same time as Minecraft, and, unlike Minecraft, felt like the full experience. Boss monsters, tiered progression, a very vague semblance of story where the forces of nature and the supernatural were at odds, eventually culminating in the complete destruction of the environment as you stop a stellar plot and destroy a cosmic god.
Modding had added the Calamity add-on, which expanded progression and boss fights to white-knuckle level difficulty and a jamming, custom made OST that has you vibrating in your seat while you use a wand to obliterate leviathans and end the world.
Then you have what I'd call the 'red headed stepchild' of the Genre, Starbound.
Starbound is a bit of an odd representation of the series. It took blocks and pixels to space where you interact with penguin mercenaries, explore multiple planets, and build your character using racial armor and weapon tiers that add flavor to your bird or ape or what have you. Every race gets their own ship type with unique room placement and aesthetic. I have a special love for the Avians, who's ships are giant pyramids powered by some central crystal.
It had rather incredible storytelling and lore depth despite being procedurally generated. Earth was destroyed by a galactic monster, Avians fight to earn their wings and escape their all-knowing god. Apes are working to break their bonds from an oppressive regime of a 'great ape' that really brings to mind a Orwellian nightmare personified by hyper intelligent monkeys.
Modding wasn't as prevalent in Starbound as the other two games, but it spawned one of the most recognizable furry species in culture now; Avali. Little feathered raptors that drink ammonia and love frozen worlds. They're lovely! Wonderful little creatures! Super cute and now we can see them in VR Chat and Second Life, etc.
But now it's been several years and while these games have dedicated communities and their own followers, I ask "what's next?"
And unfortunately I don't think I have the answer to that.
Terraria's development had stopped and their sequel has been cancelled for the immediate future. Minecraft is still the top dog on the market, and Starbound is finished, so far as we can tell.
The time of the block-builder is over. We're looking at farming simulators, pirates, and more MMOs to count. It's a sad realization but we're still enjoying our time in these little slivers of programming where some mad lad with glass and dirt builds a diorama of the first level from Mario and complex cities rise from grass.
Who knows though. Chucklefish is still putting out new games all the time and I'm lowkey crossing my fingers for some new developer to remember most of us still love playing with legos.
Stay Salty~
