If you’re at the Chicago Steampunk Expo this weekend, you can find my (US exclusive) bookmarks at Bill Bodden’s table (along with those of many other steampunk authors! These bookmarks were designed especially for US conventions. A big shout out to Bill, who offered to take them to events he attends.

August is here once again! So it's time for:

Up through the atmosphere Up where the air is clear oh let's go fly a kite

For Those who weren't around last year, I hosted a steampunk-flavored, Mary Poppins themed fan event, taking place in Albert's hometown of Altus (a city built on an island that used to be Atlantis)

This year I am happy to share with everybody this same event, but with a different take this year! Instead of folks sending me asks for me to write or doodle, I'm offering SR Card blanks to let everyone dress their OCs in their Steampunky Best! I'm actually gonna give y'all Two; one for last year AND this year!

As Well: I'm posting a map of the city of Altus, for those who have anywhere in particular they'd like to visit!

I'd love to see what everyone plans on doing and how everyone dresses for the occasion! Who's going out to fly kites on the best weekend of the year to do so? Are they building their own? Getting into aerial dogfights with other competitors? Renting a Ketrak/Atirak/Martag or hot air balloon to check out the sights from above? Enjoying any of the fluffy, air-themed foods offered by the local eateries? (Pavlova, meringues, popcorn, fairy floss, souffles, cream puffs, etc) Going shopping? Having hillside picnics? This sucks. There’s a Steampunk meet-up in my actual town five freaking minutes from my house (unheard of in Orange County, CA, so quite a surprise in nowhere Texas) and I made it through the teapot races before the folks broke off into groups to talk, and the anxiety of not knowing anyone and being the only Decopunk (and a low effort one at that) and seeing myself in the big wall mirrors (looking older and dumpier and more like my mom than I realized) and the vendors watching me (as they do… sorry but I realized all your jewelry probably has nickel in it) drove me back out to my car.

I can’t decide whether to go back in and try again. There’s like 20 people, somewhere between the awkward “You can’t leave or they won’t have enough people to do anything” and “so many people that while you may not have friends here at least it won’t look conspicuous.”

I mean, I could go up to someone and admit I feel uncomfortable because I don’t know anyone. And they would likely make an attempt to give me a chance to meet some people. But then… I’d feel like I had to stay longer.

I guess the trouble is that I just want things my own way. I want to feel welcome but I also want to feel free to leave without pissing anyone off.

Going to TeslaCon or Chicago Steam Expo?

A quick update to thank all of Patrons for your support. Later this month  a fellow steampunk author (Bill Bodden) will be attending two large US steampunk conventions over the next couple of months: TeslaCon and Chicago Steam Expo.  As I can’t afford to attend, he suggested I send him some bookmarks so he could hand them out at his author table (squee) and plug my books. He’s a complete Sweetie!

  My Patrons’ financial support has allowed me to accept the offer. I just ordered them via US Vistaprint  to ship to him in the US – so, I suppose these will be collectors’ items?

Here’s hoping it gets me some eyes on pages!

1: thats all the pings i got for af stuff so if you posted something for me *gripping you* poke me again and i Will force all my followers to see it

2: i only drew 4 attacks this af! a record low for me, but i am tremendously happy with my art this year. this is the year of texture and harsh lighting baybeyyyyyy. july for me was quite hectic and i hurt my wrist and couldnt draw for a full week on top of that, but there's no shame in building up a hitlist for next year...

i got like, a lot of attacks this year. tons of mass attack inclusions esp and i always feel a lil bad about not being able to return anything, so just know thank you again everyone who made something for me! i save all of them and stare at them on down days :] your arts appreciated year round
