Month of New Operatic Works #23: Armide (Théâtre de Champs-Élysées, 2008): Reactions, Part II
let the fangirling continue!
poor Armide is starting to regret her life choices
I really want these three to hook up
oh honey
girl that is not true
so now she’s invoking Hate
OH MY GOD
two icons on one stage
is that poison
WORK IT LAURENT
why is like 70% of Baroque opera Dance Music That Bops TM
Laurent Naouri is just having the time of his life
she has decided to not take Hate up on it
mmmmmkay
not very cash money of you to curse her like that
EVERYONE is crushing hard on Armide
when you try to find your seat in the darkened theater
(the dude is a cast member)
so (at least in this staging) the monsters are the audience lol
“dude we gotta go save Renaud”
“but...pretty ladies...”
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh so these are demons whom Armide has changed to look like the knights’ girlfriends
“I have the power of God, anime, AND flashlights on my side”
now the other guy is also falling for the trap rip
these two are giving me impeccable Disaster Bi vibes
iconic duo
he’s so hopeless
that likely is gonna end badly
this is cool
can I move here and listen to this music and enjoy a peaceful, happy life please
seriously this is just so lovely
Area Guy Has Sudden Attack of Both Work-Related And Catholic Guilt
unfortunately, yes
oh HONEY
that moment when glory calls
that college-level music history textbook I had with the extensive commentary on L’Orfeo also had extensive commentary on this scene and I’m so happy I finally get to see it play out
she needs hugs
the Disaster Bis are back
and there he goes :(
how could someone resist staying with her?
someone please hug her
uh...okay I guess
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
:(
the tourists are back
welp the dream is over
tour guide does NOT get paid enough for this shit
bonus:
we STAN an ICON

Mostly Mezzo Mondays: d’Oustrac, Graham, Lemieux, and more
Mostly Mezzo Mondays: a recurring (though not weekly) feature where, on Monday nights, I blog a list of the upcoming broadcasts that have caught my eye on World Concert Hall. My interests: baroque vocal music, art song recitals, and a list of favorite singers.
Stéphanie d’Oustrac sang works by Duparc, Debussy, and Ravel as part of a concert with the Nash Ensemble, recorded live at Wigmore Hall a few days ago; it’s scheduled for broadcast Wednesday, January 17 on BBC Radio 3.*
This concert by the National Orchestra of Wales caught my eye partly because of the male soloists (Allan Clayton and Matthew Rose, both of whom I hold in high regard) and partly because of the female conductor, Xian Zhang; I don’t know her work (yet) but on the whole I’d like to see more women on the podium. The repertoire for this concert: a world premiere of Spring by Huw Watkins followed by Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. Friday, January 19 on BBC Radio 3.*
Susan Graham is scheduled to sing in Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 with the Boston Symphony Orchestra this weekend; their concert is up for live broadcast Saturday, January 20 on WCRB. [NOTE: Because WCH does all listings in GMT, it gives the time of this broadcast as very early in the morning on the 21st, but it will start at 8:00 pm Saturday evening local time.]*
Marie-Nicole Lemieux sings Berlioz’ song cycle Les nuits d’été with the Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Sunday, January 21 on NDR Kultur.
Broadcasts marked with an asterisk (*) are on channels known to me to have a history of making most if not all of their live concert broadcasts available for catch-up listening for at least a week afterward. I can’t guarantee that any of these will be archived online but if you miss the live broadcast, there may be hope!

Sometimes I listen to an opera and just feel the composer's heartbreak. Lully had been through a bad one
Stephanie D'Oustrac seems to feel it as well
