Oddity will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on October 22 via IFC Films. The 2024 Irish horror film will be available on Digital on August 20 and will stream on Shudder at a later date.

When Dani is brutally murdered at the remote country house that she and her husband Ted are renovating, everyone suspects a patient from the local mental health institution, where Ted is a doctor. However, soon after the tragic murder, the suspect is found dead. A year later, Dani’s blind twin sister Darcy, a self-proclaimed psychic and collector of cursed items, pays an unexpected visit to Ted and his new girlfriend, Yana. Convinced that there was more to her sister's murder than people know, Darcy has brought with her the most dangerous items from her cursed collection to help her exact revenge.

Mini-review:

After being pleasantly surprised by McCarthy's first feature, Caveat, this one went straight into my watchlist. And I'm glad I looked for it quickly, cause Oddity is even better. The director has fine-tuned the small issues that kept his other film from true greatness, so now there's nothing holding him back. For starters, it's been a really long time since I encountered such effective jump scares. There are only a few of them, but so perfectly timed that they all got an itty-bitty scream out of me. The central mystery remains interesting until the very end, even if there's a point when you can tell where it's going. Also, Carolyn Bracken gives a truly fantastic performance; I didn't even realize she was playing a dual role until it's mentioned in the movie itself. So yeah, I'll be paying attention to McCarthy's future work.

Can I just say that this movie was flipping INCREDIBLE and I loved every second of it.

Atmosphere was so eerie, the buildup of tension was fantastic. I’m a horror movie mega fan and I’ve seen so many at this point that I sometimes feel almost desensitized. Like nothing really creeps me out at this point. So for me, it’s the highest of compliments to say that I was genuinely spooked by this one. The final shot was so phenomenal that it feels wholly indescribable. Had me shocked and amazed and terrified and cheering all at once.

I’d definitely advise anyone who’s interested to go into this movie as blind (no pun intended) as possible. Make yourself some popcorn, turn out the lights, and enjoy the ride.

THE HOLE IN THE GROUND (2019)

Sleepy little Irish changeling flick. Creepy? Yeah. Worth watching? Eh. Good movie? No. But boy did they try. Could have been a 30 minute short at best. Not a bad way to bore a date you don't really fancy.

Funky looking Irish chick and her underwhelming child do boring things until, wham, the son is switched with a vague changeling. Yadda yadda yadda, mom notices her son ain't her son no more, finds a random hole in the ground (trademarked) and finds her (miraculously undead) son. Fights off some goopy boys and burns her house down. All's well that ends well.

AU where Robin keeps trying to set Eddie up with “a guy she works with” (Steve), but Eddie’s driven by Family Videos before and he’s seen the guy she works with. And just, no. Thats not his type.

He saw Keith.

He thinks Robin is trying to set him up with Keith.

At the same time, half of Gareth’s job at the Arcade is being stuck in conversations with Steve Harrington when he brings his brother(?) in. Steve’s always lamenting whatever shitty date he just want on and how he wants to find the one.

Gareth suggests Steve ask out his friend (Eddie). He works at the bowling alley so Steve can find him there. After another shitty date, Steve goes to the bowling alley and no. Nope. No way.

You know who Steve sees behind the shoe rental? Keith.

He thinks Gareth is trying to set him up with Keith, too.
