Mannnnnn I love looking through commission posts. Seeing the type of different art people offer is so awesome, and it’s cool seeing people put themselves out there.

The one thing that ticks me off tho is when they totally undervalue themselves. Like, I don’t care if you’re not Michelangelo, you shouldn’t do $1 headshot sketches. CHARGE MORE. $1 is ridiculous.

Personally, I like to think about it like you’re getting at least minimum wage. How much is your state’s minimum wage? How long does it take you to make a certain type of piece (sketch, ink, color)? Is it the same as minimum wage or above? If not, fucking raise your prices. 

The more people lower their prices, the more shitty people will think they deserve... and the less you’ll think you deserve. 

For example, I went to Kumoricon on the last day of con. I passed this booth I hadn’t seen before with a really cool style. They had a Steven Universe sticker sheet. $3. I asked them, “Is this really $3???” They told me it was $5 before... which is still insane. Because it was fucking good art. I told them they needed to be charging more... I hope they took it to heart. (Fuck, I can’t remember if I tipped them. I should have fucking tipped them... I’m a dick. Don’t be me. A fucking dick. If I end up going to Kumoricon next year, I’m gonna try and find them and tip them.)

Point is: YOUR ART IS WORTH IT. CHARGE PEOPLE WHAT YOU DESERVE.
