Okay so, I've been trying to come up with a new system for the tournaments vefore the head to head rounds. Even thouh its still a while off, we will be getting a new companion, I would guess, some time in the next year. Currently to accomodate a new companion one of the regulars would have to go, I just about managed to find a good pick for Ruby's introduction but there is just nobody I think should go this time around.
So new system, my current proposal is to make the regulars list subject to elimination in the group stage. But, I still want to guarantee particular numbers of slots for classic, new, and eu companions which would let most of the regulars through, and then whatever is left over is for nominees.
What this lets me do is expand the list of regulars somewhat. I'll put the full list im currently thinking of under the cut, as there's no such thing as too many. Don't take the list as final, I'm open to adding a couple more, although I will say they should either be undisputably companions or some very special case where they are as well known as a companion from the same era/medium, additionally they should be someone who you think is likely to nominated in most tournaments. This is going to be a lower bar for eu companions but whatever.
currently I am thinking 27 slots for classic companions, 16 for nu, 13 for eu and 8 for nominations, but I will put the specific numbers up to a vote later in the week
sorry if this is confusing, I promise it will be simple once it gets going, but yeah
I'm only going to set this to a day because if you guys are happy with this as a plan I want to implement it in time for the next tournament and that's going to take time on my end
finally, the proposed new regulars list

Some random thoughts about Rani Takes on the World in no particular order:  (spoilers)
I love these characters so much and I’m so happy that we get more time with them
While I didn’t grow up watching the show like a lot of people did, and only watched it as an adult after the show had ended, the SJA kids are the same age as me and I was definitely relating to Rani through a lot of the story
Not gonna lie, Clyde turning up with a pregnant girlfriend less than ten minutes in was a bit of a blow but it does look like they’re setting up Clani for the long run
I love a slow burn but it’s been over a decade? Let them kiss already!
Love the references to the Classic Who companions and it would be awesome if we get to see them later on. They were supposed to meet Ace, and I really want to hear her and Clyde together.
This ties in nicely with the companion support group.
Dodo Chaplet reference! This audio is giving me everything.
I adore Gita and I’m so happy that she’s back. I hope they get Haresh back as well at some point.
Lots of really emotional moments and it still makes me sad that they’ve confirmed that Sarah Jane is gone.
A Natalie Redfern reference?! Will we get Nat in the future?
I keep wondering if they’re going to tie in anything from the unmade episodes, especially from the Thirteenth Floor episode. That would explain a lot about the relationship between Clyde and Rani
Luke in the next boxset!!! I’m so excited!

The Second Doctor
I really liked the Second Doctor, a lot more than 1 if I'm being honest. He was silly enough to be fun but never felt like a joke. I'm still not sure how much of it was an act either. There's a ton of scenes where I think he's just playing it up to get people to underestimate him, but then there are scenes where it genuinely seems he has no idea what he's doing
He's kind of like 11 in that way, and actually as I type that I remembered that he's Matt Smith's favorite Doctor so those parallels might have been intentional
The dynamic he had with his companions was a lot different from 1 as well. Where 1 viewed himself as a mentor to his companions, bringing in the young and trying to steer them towards making good decisions, 2 seemed to view his companions more like actual genuine partners. Though I do wonder how much that has to do with the fact that so many of Ben, Polly, and Victoria's episodes are missing and it seemed like Zoe was written much better than they were
I also liked that, now that they'd officially decided that the Doctor is an alien, they played with that a little more with the Second Doctor.
So far my Classic Doctor rankings are (below the cut)
The Second Doctor. Troughton just brought so much fun to the role and I genuinely enjoyed more of his serials I think
The First Doctor. Nothing against Hartnell, I loved the crotchety old grandpa, but somebody's gotta come last
Also I intended to do a companion ranking with 1 but I forgot so I'm gonna do his era's companions here as well
Barbara Wright. I love Barbara so much. As an older companion than most of the other women in the cast (and actually, tho I may be wrong, until Catherine Tate was cast I think she was the oldest companion ever) she never was forced to play damsel roles. She often was in charge of whatever subplot she was in, most notably in The Aztecs, and Jacqueline Hill brought a sense of grace to the role that I loved. Also, as a history buff, I have to place the history teacher as number one
Susan Foreman. While I disliked how she was written at times, I still think Susan was an excellent character. I feel like she, more than the Doctor, drove the sense of mystery around the two, with her psychic powers and oddball comments. I feel badly for Carole Ann Ford because I know she was upset with how the part turned out but I do think we were given something special with Susan
Vicki. We didn't get to see much of her because of missing episodes and a shorter time on the show than others, but from what we got I really liked her. She was more... reliable than Susan was at times and the affection between Hartnell and O'Brien was palpable on screen
Ian Chesterton. When I was watching his stories, I didn't expect to like Ian much but he definitely grew on me. While I still have many questions about just how he's able to beat trained soldiers in a fight, overall I liked the way he always felt protective over Barbara (even if it was a product of sexist writing) and routinely put the Doctor in his place
Dodo Chaplet. Tbh I'm not the biggest fan of Dodo, though I do admit that has more to do with missing episodes than anything. I liked what we did get tho
Steven Taylor. I actually somewhat genuinely dislike Steven's character if I'm being honest. He was just a bit TOO impulsive and headstrong for me, making dumb mistakes just to advance the plot
Katarina. We literally only get one episode with her because of missing episodes, but I like the gimmick of her character
Sara Kingdom. Like Katarina, we only get one episode with her but she doesn't even have a cool gimmick to bump her up in the ratings
Second Doctor companions (counting Ben and Polly here because they left in this era)
Zoe Heriot. Zoe is genuinely one of my favorite companions ever, including modern companions. I love just about everything about her. The idea of her being just as smart as the Doctor, just without the life experience and the Time Lord knowledge. The way she constantly had to deal with sexist men and always put them in their place (which I'm pretty sure was the writers trying to convince a sexist audience of her worth as a character.) Her random ability to defeat Superman in hand-to-hand combat that literally never comes up again. She was fun and exciting and brought a shine to every scene she was in and I'm really sad that the way she left makes her return a lot more difficult than others
Jamie McCrimmon. I have a love-hate relationship with this Scottish himbo. On one hand, he's the dictionary definition of a himbo. A good looking beefcake who lets the woman (and the Doctor) do the thinking for him. I loved how often Zoe and the Doctor shared glances any time he tried to use his brain. It was a really refreshing take. But at the same time, they really doubled down on him being from the past and made him act so sexist toward Zoe at times its hard for me to truly LOVE him
Polly. I LOVED Polly's introduction. The initial scene of her at that nightclub, making friends with people and having a good time. That combined with the knowledge that she was going to be part of the crew who was there for the first regeneration, I had really high hopes for her. And yet, in every episode after her first she did nothing but make coffee for people, to the point that in her last non-missing episode they made a joke about it. She's still higher up than others because of that intro tho
Victoria Waterfield. I feel so bad for Deborah Watling because she's really a great actress, but Victoria was such a badly written character. Just a constant bombardment of sexist writing and having little-to-no agency in any story she was in
Ben Jackson. Tbh he's kind of a nothing burger of a character, and we also didn't get many episodes with him for me to grow to love him

Strange Attractors Prologue: Fall Out
“We’ve done it,” The Doctor said with shock, studying the scanner intently as he saw Gallifrey fall away behind them. “We’ve actually done it!” he danced between Jamie and Victoria, spinning around them in delight.
“A canny believe it Doctor, your plan worked.” Jamie said with a wide grin that warmed the Doctors hearts.
“That was marvellous,” Victora said grasping the two in a tight hug. “The looks on their faces when you used the sneezing powder.”
The Doctor allowed himself a brief moment of satisfaction, leaning on the console he plotted their journey out. He almost couldn't believe it himself, they’d escaped, he’d been waiting years, decades even, as he concocted a plan that made his previous escape from Gallifrey look like the hastily carried out farce that it was. Their arrival, awarded to him in a warped mockery of his previous life, had only pushed him to bring the plan into effect earlier than he had initially conceived. His handlers believed he worked best when supported by loved ones, they’d been right.
“We’ll be out of their immediate sphere of influence soon-enough,” The Doctor said glancing at the scanner. “The fog should begin lifting shortly.”
“Fog?” Polly wrinkled her nose in confusion.
“The memory blocks? Periods that exist only exist vaguely?” she shook her head and the Doctor turned to face Ben. “What about you Benjamin, how’s your memory, anything you can’t quite recall?”
“My memory’s fine Doctor?”
“No spaces, absences of any kind?” he shook his head.
“Perhaps…” The Doctor pondered as he paced the room. “Perhaps they didn’t see the necessity in memory blocks for the lesser species, yes, yes, that must be it.”
“Lesser species!” Zoe gave an indignant cry.
“A turn of phrase,” he smiled at her warmly. “Please forgive me, you’ve spent enough time among my people to get a sense of their views on the wider universe. I sometimes forget I’m as much a product of those attitudes as any other Time-Lord, I fear my time among them has only increased my blindness.”
“I’ll say,” Dodo smirked. “They kidnap me and poor Helen to help you deal with The Terrible Zodin and don’t even bother to thank us afterwards! I’m not sure they would have taken us home if you hadn’t escaped.”
The Doctor paused mid-stride, glancing at his fellow escapees; Dodo Chaplet and Helen Mortimer, briefly unsure when his keepers had opted to pair him with the two. Seeing them again was an unexpected kindness, and despite their initial disbelief he was the Doctor, they had quickly become a dependable duo, helping him through the toughest months...years? Of his ongoing captivity. It must have been during the Zodin affair...regardless, their sudden reemergence into his life had helped push him towards escape.
“Yes,” he said quietly. “They don’t have much respect for the unlike. You may have gathered that from some of our ‘adventures’. He all but spat the word, what little he could recall clearly already disgusting him. “Intervening only when it suits them.”
“Still, some of the scrapes we got into, eh Doctor?” Steven said, giving him a hearty slap on the back. “Sontarans, Vespiforms, Players, The Embodiment of Gris, The Corsair and her sinister crew, hardly the underdogs of the universe.”
“And we all agreed that Tannis chap needed to be stopped,” Ian added, joining the pair. “Or were the Time-Lords wrong to intervene there?” The Doctor turned to give Chesterton a piece of his mind only to find Jamie staring down at him. “And you have to admit it’s nice that ye can actually fly the TARDIS now, control where we’re going an’ aw that.” The boy flashed a cheeky grin. Something was wrong here, who…who was he travelling with. He’d left...he’d left with Jamie and Victoria, or was it Zoe and Ben? Tony and Paula? They all spoke to him, voices echoing across the console room, always close by, but he only had two companions.
“You can’t really call it to control when your journey is already decided” The Doctor snapped, trying to fight through the fog, tiredness he’d been fighting off since his trial threatening to flood over him. He needed to focus, to ignore the distractions, only a little longer and he would be safe. “Or at least, that’s what I’ve always felt.” He flashed a weary smile at Ben and Polly, turning his attention back on the console. “And yes, we may have dealt with threats, made the universe safer, but safe for who? Whose interests were we really serving? For every Tannis there were half a dozen researchers whose only crime was being curious about their universe. We...I toppled tyrants at the behest of tyrants, never daring to challenge them in ways that really mattered.”
“Was I really so bad to work with?” Serena shot back, hurt dripping from her voice. “You’ve built our people into monsters, they could have exiled you, killed you even. Instead, they welcomed you back, allowed you to keep doing what you’ve always done, only with the support and comfort of home.” He’d seen her die, he’d had to tell her family, she couldn’t be here, none of them could.
“She’s right you know.” another, immediately recognisable voice said. The Doctor turned sharply, refusing to accept it’s presence. They wouldn’t, would they? Of course, of course they would. Only they could be so cruel. “Would you really abandon it all again Grandfather? Our people, our family?”
“Please don’t go!” John and Gillian chimed together, twin daggers piercing his hearts. “We almost never got to see Cousin Susan before you came back.” The Doctor rested his head against the console, cold surface and distant rumbling offering little comfort in the face of what he knew he had to do. They would never let him go, not really, not like this. It was a nice lie, one he wanted to believe in, but it was still a lie. With a cacophony of giggling grandchildren behind him The Doctor rose slowly, one hand dabbing his nose with a handkerchief while the other methodically worked the console.
Hands fell on his shoulder, Jamie and Victoria peering around him with a keener interest in the console than either had ever displayed during their time together. “Are you okay?” Victoria asked with lilting concern?
“Aye Doctor, whits the matter? No getting cold feet are ye?”
“Of course not,” he said with a clap, shoving past them as he moved around the console, working buttons and switches with lightning-quick reflexes, finally coming to a stop directly across from them, slow rise and fall of the column warping half their features. “I just wanted to take the time to say how much I value you both, I really don’t know that I would have survived these last few yea...well however long it’s been...without the both of you. When you came back, when they brought you back I should say, I was over the moon, you were a glimmer of hope in the dark.” He began working the console, quick glance confirming they were advancing on him. “I think they thought you would pacify me, make me softer, more willing to work with them, but they made a mistake there.” He savoured once last glance at their faces, as good an imitation as any. “I would never allow you to be trapped with them.”
“Aww gee it up Doctor, ye canny escape them.” Jamie said with a hint of anger, the two converging on him from either side.
“Jamie, Victoria...” The Doctor dabbed his forehead, jabbing a final command into the console with a grim smile. “Thank you.”

Hrrmph! A Hartnell Era Meta
I’ve just finished the William Hartnell’s run as The Doctor and the first Doctor’s run in Doctor Who, so I figured I’d write a meta about the characters and the acting instead of the production. So, let’s start off with the man who would make sure Doctor Who shone like the star it’s meant to be:
Tumblr media
Have you ever thought what it's like to be wanderers in the Fourth Dimension? Have you? To be exiles? Susan and I are cut off from our own planet - without friends or protection. But one day we shall get back. Yes, one day. William Hartnell was the perfect choice for Early Doctor Who. We first meet the Doctor in An Unearthly Child and he’s a far cry from the man we’re used to be. This is The Doctor at the very beginning of his life and he has yet to understand the compassion that drives him and his future incarnations. He kidnaps Ian and Barbara (more on them later) and whisks them away to the stone age, and during their first adventure he almost kills a caveman! In The Daleks he purposefully sabotages the TARDIS just so he can explore this strange planet that he’s never been too before, the gall! He starts to soften overtime during the first season but The Aztecs give one of Harnell’s most memorable lines:  You can't rewrite history. Not one line! By the end of Season 1, he’s come to think of Ian and Barbara as family just as much as Susan is his granddaughter. His character has been evolving over the stories and Hartnell is a master performer, able to bring the character to life with his indignant outrage, soft and gentle, and later down the road absolute comedy gold. With Season 2 comes a changing of the guard. Susan (more on her later) has left the TARDIS on Earth and that leaves the Doctor, Ian, and Barbara traveling alone for an unknown amount of time.  Then in The Rescue comes a series tradition: The Orphan in the TARDIS. Vicki is all by her lonesome in the 25th century until she meets Ian, Barbara, and The Doctor. From then on she’s practically adopted by the Doctor. Vicki coming aboard provides a vital element towards The Doctor’s character. Gone are the days where he’s a rough and calloused old man, instead he treats Ian and especially Barbara like his own children, doting on them and constantly making sure that they’re alright. When Vicki comes along, his mischievous side comes out. You can feel the chemistry in the actors when he’s on screen with them, and The Romans highlights how glorious Vicki and The Doctor’s relationship is. That is until The Chase happens and we’re suddenly losing Ian and Barbara. The Doctor is devastated, he sounds heartsbroken. “I HAVE TRIED FOR TWO YEARS TO GET YOU TWO BACK HOME!” He’s roaring at them in total anger, calling them idiots and stupid but we at home know how much he’s hurting. Vicki promises that she won’t leave and that she’s staying with The Doctor, and in turn gain a new companion: Steven. (Definitely more on him later) The final episode of Season 2 is “The Time Meddler.” And this is extremely important because it shows off for the first time another member of The Doctor’s species: The Monk.  The Monk has already changed history, and instead of a villain he’s more treated like a naughty child. The way The Doctor giggles and hoots with the Monk before rounding on him in righteous anger is a treat to see.  Now we move onto Season 3, where most of his stories are lost but they are some of his best. The Myth Makers shows Vicki being lost to the Trojans in a whirlwind of chaos, and it’s just Steven and The Doctor in what is doubtlessly the masterpiece of Hartnell’s first era: The Dalek’s Master Plan The prologue of Mission to the Unknown sets up the scene of what is one of the grandest stories and shows how desperate Doctor Who was to push the envelope and go to such exotic locations. Galaxy 4 already took us to an alien world, and sooner than that was The Web Planet, but the Master Plan shows everything coming together. Hartnell is in top form here, but the devastation weighs heavy on his heart. “ What a waste. What a terrible waste.” And we see him at his most broken and defeated in The Massacre with a somber soliquity after Steven storms out of the TARDIS: “My dear Steven, history sometimes gives us a terrible shock, and that is because we don't quite fully understand. Why should we? After all, we're too small to realise its final pattern. Therefore don't try and judge it from where you stand. I was right to do as I did. Yes, that I firmly believe. [Steven leaves the TARDIS] Steven... Even after all this time, he cannot understand. I dare not change the course of history. Well, at least I taught him to take some precautions; he did remember to look at the scanner before he opened the doors. And now, they're all gone. All gone. None of them could understand. Not even my little Susan. Or Vicki. And as for Barbara and Chatterton — Chesterton — they were all too impatient to get back to their own time. And now, Steven. Perhaps I should go home. Back to my own planet. But I can't... I can't... “ Soon after that, Steven returns and the infamous Dodo Chaplet joins the TARDIS, and his character quickly returns to the grandfatherly figure we all know and love. I would like to skip ahead to his final story, and one of the most important in Doctor Who history: The Tenth Planet. Not only does it introduce the Cybermen, but it introduces the one concept that would change the foundation of the show forever: Regeneration. In hindsight, the signs seem to be there. The Doctor was at the heart of The Dalek’s gigantic time bomb in The Master Plan and during The Savages he’s had his energy drained more. Maybe one starts to think this was planned.  “This is not the end...” He staggers towards the TARDIS and changes into a new man. He started out as an old grump in a junkyard, but he leaves with his head held as high as he can, the warm and loving grandfather. Of course, no Doctor is complete without his companions, and The Doctor has plenty of them. Let’s start with the first of them: His own Granddaughter, Susan Foreman.
Tumblr media
Grandfather and I don't come from Earth. Oh, it's ages since we've seen our planet. It's quite like Earth, but at night the sky is a burned orange, and the leaves on the trees are bright silver. Susan is a bit of an oddity. As the first companions along side Ian and Barbara, her time in the TARDIS is mostly unmemorable. I’ll be honest, the writing at the time never gave her the type of character she was meant to be. She would scream her head off like a frightened little girl and cling onto the adults for dear life.  We see later on that she’s starting to grow up, but her departure is perhaps her most famous.  The Doctor: During all the years I've been taking care of you, you in return have been taking care of me. Susan: Oh, Grandfather, I belong with you! The Doctor: Not any longer, Susan. You are still my grandchild and always will be. But now, you're a woman too. I want you to belong somewhere, to have roots of your own. With David, you will be able to find those roots and live normally like any woman should do. Believe me, my dear, your future lies with David and not with a silly old buffer like me. One day, I shall come back. Yes, I shall come back. Until then, there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties. Just go forward in all your beliefs and prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine. Goodbye, Susan. Goodbye, my dear How does one speech dictate how a show will continue on? Susan’s importance in the episodes themselves might not have been very memorable, but it’s her departure that changes something in The Doctor. She isn’t someone to be coddled anymore, and even though it rips his hearts apart, he has to let her go. The scenes where he’s asking for Susan to fiddle with the controls and realizes she’s no longer there, it’s disheartening. Without Barbara and Ian, he’d be lost. Speaking of which...
Tumblr media
Ian: There is someone coming. Barbara: Goodbye, Doctor! Thanks for the ride. Ian: Yeah, it was fun, Doctor. goodbye. If The Doctor is the soul of the show, then for the longest time Ian and Barbara were the heart. It is impossible to talk about one without mentioning the other due to how influential they are to this show. As I mentioned earlier, during their first adventure with The Doctor he kidnapped them and whisked them away throughout time and space. It’s Ian who first changes The Doctor’s ways and turns him into the moral champion of justice we would come to know him as. It’s Barbara who gives him a good tongue lashing when Ian is out. These two represent everything a companion should be. Smart, Dependable, and Curious. Every time Ian fights for his life for his friends, you can feel the desperation and later the joy when he wins. When Barbara believes they should help, no force in the universe will get them to stop.  Ian and Barbara quickly become family to The Doctor, and helped shape his moral compass that can be felt even into the current series. The ending scene in The Chase where they’re frolicking about modern London and just enjoying being home is a fitting send-off for two of the best.
Tumblr media
After all. That's why he went out there, to find out where we are. Anyway, that man looks quite friendly now. He's probably showing him to the nearest town. The changing of the guard is a difficult thing. While I have no doubts that Ian and Barbara could have carried the show beautifully, they too had to leave at some point. Before that though, they brought the beautiful and clever Vicki aboard the TARDIS.  Hailing from the 25th century, Vicki marks a turning point in Doctor Who. She is the first companion to willingly be brought aboard during Hartnell’s Era (something literally every other companion bar Susan cannot lay claim too) and her chemistry with Hartnell is instantaneous. Although there are some moments where she’s nothing more than Susan Lite, Vicki quickly marks out her own character by being everything Susan should have been. She’s witty, funny, and bursting with curiosity. One of her finest adventures is in The Romans, a hilarious tale where she and Hartnell get along like a pair of mischievous school children, off to the capital and leaving the old fusspots lazing around.  Vicki was there on the cusp of a turning point, and her absence is painful and noticeable during The Master Plan and her mere prescience is sorely missed. Mercifully, we have in my opinion one of the First Doctor’s greatest companions.
Tumblr media
What a gorgeous specimen Peter Purves is. He is not only one of the longest male companions The Doctor had (Jamie has taken that spot) but he is one of the best early ones. Steven Taylor is one of if not the best companion the 1st Doctor had. He’s hot-headed, rash, trusts the Doctor implicitly but he’s not afraid to give him a good yelling when it boils down to it. Season 3 was a transformative year for Doctor Who. They were throwing everything at the wall to see if it stuck, with Steven being the sole constant through a whirlwind. His anger and grief after The Master Plan over losing both Katarina and Sara is palpable, and the sheer frustration about The Doctor’s insistence to keep History on course is ultimately forced him out. “Oh, no. You just sent her back to her aunt's house where the guards were waiting to catch her. I tell you this much, Doctor, wherever this machine of yours lands next, I'm getting off. If your researches have so little regard for human life, then I want no part of it.” During Him and Dodo’s run, he’s treating her like an exasperated big brother, scolding her and making sure she’s safe. During The Gunfighters we show off his impressive singing ability! Purves as an actor could do it all, providing the seriousness and drama when required and later making us bust a gut with laughter.  It’s only fitting that Steven is picked to make peace in The Savages and thus end his time in the TARDIS. His absence in my opinion is most noticeable even as new faces come and go.
Tumblr media
No, it isn't. I'm crying this time. Oh boy. The Infamous Dodo Chaplet. Is she really as bad as they say she is? So much so that she’s most famous for dying of an STD and getting gunned down. No one can seem to have a high opinion of her, and I find myself in the middle. I don’t believe Dodo was an awful character. The Celestial Toymaker has shown however her almost incredulous stupidty but it’s marred by other stories such as The Gunfighters that dare I say she was even competent. She burst from the TARDIS full of gusto and adventure and she could shine when the time is right. She had the second shortest run of any of The 1st Doctor’s companions and it’s most noticeable in her departure. Not a proper goodbye, just a not stating she’d like to stay home. I feel like if given more time, she could have been remembered more fondly.
Tumblr media
Ben: Hey, come on Doctor, wakey wakey! It's all over now. Polly: Doctor? The Doctor: What did you say, my boy? It's all over. That's what you said. No, but it isn't all over. It's far from being all over. Ben: What are you talking about? Now, Ben and Polly are most famous for being the 2nd Doctor’s companions, but they got their start in Hartnell’s Era and my word do they shine wonderfully. With only two stories under their belt with the 1st Doctor it’s agnozing we never saw these three together more because the results are wonderful. Both Polly and Ben’s performers are so full of emotion and character you can forget that they’ve only been with the TARDIS for two adventures. The Smugglers is a wonderful piece of storytelling that sets us up nicely for The Tenth Planet, and that serial really shows off how wonderful these two are. Polly’s indignant objections to the Cybermen and Ben’s clever methods of stalling and defeating them prove why they are instrumental for the 1st Doctor’s final installment. They’re a wonderful representation of the Swinging Sixties coming to life in the TARDIS and on Doctor Who.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dalek Supreme: Rebels of London, this is your last offer - our final warning. Leave your hiding places. Show yourselves in the open streets. You will be fed and watered. Work is needed from you... but the Daleks offer you life. Rebel against us and the Daleks will destroy London completely. You will all die. The males, the females, the descendants. Rebels of London, come out of your hiding places. Cyberman: You must come and live with us. Polly: But we cannot live with you, you're different! You have no feelings! Cyberman: Feelings? I do not understand that word. Doctor: Emotions! Love! Pride! Hate! Fear! Have you no emotions, sir, hmm? For every good hero, there must be a good villain. And early Doctor Who gave us two of the best and most memorable. I’m not saying that the Daleks and Cybermen are the only baddies Hartnell Era Doctor Who produced that’s highly memorable. The Monk, the Celestial Toymaker, the aliens in Galaxy 4, there is a long line of baddies that are just teething with possibility. But these two are the most famous. The Daleks are a frightening force in the galaxy. First brought onto Skaro in The Daleks, they quickly established themselves as a universal threat with The Chase and finally The Dalek’s Master Plan. During both of the latter stories, the Daleks relentlessly pursued The Doctor and companions and carved a bloody gash through time and space that would forever leave audiences shaking at the core at how terrifying the Daleks could and ought to be. The Cybermen, while primarily famous for later serials, also had such a strong start. Trapped in a base in the antarctic, the first ever Cybermen are sympathetic and mean to the core. Mondas is dying, and they are desperate to save their home and survive. They have no emotion, for they do not need them. They resist the heat, the cold, and suffer no pain.  The humanity has been stripped by the early Cybermen, but ghastly images still remain. A human eye clearly visible, the human-hands and the bulk machines. The Cybermen were a representative of what humanity could become if pushed far enough to the brink. Their first and only outing with the 1st Doctor is bone-chilling. Marvelous work.
In Conclusion... Doctor Who started out as an educational show. That’s why the shift between historical and science fiction was so great, and why ultimately a science and history teacher (Ian and Barbara respectively) were the first ever companions because their job was to teach the audience. But Doctor who grew into something more than that, and through the years of William Hartnell’s time as the Doctor we visited breath-taking locales, explored strange and wonderful ideas, and in hindsight, saw the birth of a series that’s still going strong to this day.  Please watch the 1st Doctor’s run, I had thought that I would despise it, that the special effects would be old and hokey and the acting would be of similar quality. How wrong I was. If you’re willing to look past the budget and the cheap costumes, you will find something brimming with intelligence and life like no other.  Thank you for reading this. :)

THE FANFIC ITSELF:
"Hey, Doctor, is there a piano somewhere in the TARDIS?" Dodo asked, smiling excitedly at the alien as she walked into the control room. "Or maybe a guitar? I can play that too!" She added, hoping The Doctor would be in a good mood and not be angry with her for asking.
"A piano and a guitar? Now why do you want those instruments? Feeling like playing a little tune are you, hmm? " The Doctor smiled indulgently.
"Oh yes Doctor" Dodo nodded enthusiastically. "I was thinking we could have a music night? I know lots of instruments, and I can sing, and Steven too! It would be like in school!" Excited, Dodo clapped her hands together, before sitting down beside The Doctor. "When I was little we had all kinds of talent shows and music nights at school and everyone got to sing and dance and perform. It was so much fun, and after getting to pretend to be a showgirl in Tombstone, I really miss it." To upp the empathy, Dodo put her most innocent face.
"Oh, I'm sure we could, my dear girl. Yes, so we shall!" The Doctor smiled, happy to indulge the girl that oh so reminded him of his granddaughter. "Go look behind the fifth door on the left, I believe there is some music instruments there."
"What are you going to do with music instruments? Am i missing something here?" Suddenly Steven appeared in the door opening, leaning against the wall and observing then sceptically. He knew that whenever The Doctor got excited, you could bet that trouble was soon to follow.
"The Doctor said we could have a music night! I'm going to look for some instruments right now!" Dod exclaimed, grabbing onto Stevens hand as she passed through the door opening. "Come look with me, will you? Please?" She begged, looking at him with her most atttactive face.
-----
Steven laughed. When he first met Dodo, she had felt like a little sisters to him. But the more he spent time with her, the more he started to see her in a different light. Maybe, a song would be a good way to show. "Alright, alright, I'm coming. Let's see if Doc got some piano standing in there."
Forty-five minutes later, they stood knee deep in music instruments from all over the Earth, as well as quite a few that was most definitely not Earth made. They had already managed to roll out a piano into the control room, but Dodo had been adamant to find a guitarre, too, and as such they still stood there looking.
"Have you found anything yet, Steven?" Dodo asked, pushing angrily at something heavily that vaguely reminded Steven of a tuba.
"No, sorry" Just as he said it, he spotted something sticking up out of the mess. Careful that Dodo didn't see it, he pulled the red painted acoustic guitar out of the sea och tubas and trumpets and cellos and violas.  It was a beautifully painted thing, and though Steven knew little about instruments he could tell it was a good quality.
"You found a guitar!" From behind him, Steven heard Dodo squealing as she noticed the guitare.
Turning around, Steven's eye went wide as he found Dodo leaning in, her arms wrapping around his neck as she pushed her lips against his, kissing Steven soundly.
"Dodo..." Shocked, entirely unsure how to handle what was just happened, Steven moved awya from Dodo, sahcking off her arms and holding up the guitar like a shield between the two.
Still smiling, Dodo took the guitare. "Thank you!" She exclaimed, bowing, before turning on her heels and running out the door.
Steven didn't know what happened. Watching as Dodo slipped out the door, he remained, unable to move or say anything as he analyzed the happenings of the last few minutes. It wasn't as though it had been bad, or he'd disliked it, but he still felt completely shocked that Dodo had actually kissed him.
"Are you coming Steven? Me and The Doctor are waiting!" From outside the door, Steven heard Dodo calling for him, and he smiled.
"Coming!" He called back, a smug grin spreading on his face. Tonight, he thought, was a night for music and, maybe, just maybe, love.
"Ah, Steven! There you are my boy." The Doctor smiled as he entered the console room, gesturing at him with the violin he was not holding in hand.
"You ready to play something yet?” Dodo asked. She was sitting cross legged on the floor, the red painted guitar in her hands. “I was thinking you and I could start with a duet!”
“Sounds good.” Steven smiled, inconspicuously glancing at The Doctor, who was watching then calmly from his chair. “Got a song in mind?” He asked, and Dodo nodded fervently.
“I’ve already written down your part. I thought something sort of country and American might be fun, since we just visited there.” She handed him a piece of small scrap paper, before placing her own note in front of her as she gripped the guitare. “I’ll play the guitar and we’ll both sing okay?” She asked, glancing up at him for a brief moment as he sat on the piano stool.
“Yes, sounds good.” He agreed absentmindedly as he surveyed the text she’d given him.
“Excellent, my dear boy! I shall be delighted to hear you.” The Doctor commented fiercely, once more swinging his hands around in some sort of encouraging gesture, but this time with the violin. Much to Steven's relief, he’d put the instrument down in his lap.
“Well, let’s go then!” Dodo exclaimed, immediately starting to play the guitar. Despite not doubting Dodo’s talent, Steven was shocked at how gracefully she played, her fingers moving their way across the neck of the guitar with the fine-tuned precision of someone who’d been playing for a long time. The hole performance only got better as Dodo’s vocals were added, her voice softly singing. “Black Jack David come around through the woods, and he sing so loud and gayly. He made the mountains ring and he charmed the hearts of the ladies, charmed the hearts of the ladies”
Singing the last few words, Dodo looked up at Steven once more, and he took his que. “He said how old are you my pretty little miss, how old are you my honey?” He sang as good as he could, trying to match his vocal with Dodo’s as she picked up the song once more.
“She answered with a silly little grin, I’ll be sixteen next Sunday, be sixteen next Sunday” Despite concentrating completely on the complex guitare comp, Dodo didn’t miss a note, a silly little grin indeed appearing on her face to match the lyrics.
Hearing her sing so beautifully, Steven smiled as he joined in once more. “He said come go with me my pretty little miss, come go with me my honey. I’ll take you across the deep blue sea, where you never shall want for money”
As he finished his section this time, he saw that Dodo was observing him, seemingly as fascinated by watching him perform as he was when he watched her. As she noticed him looking at her, however, she quickly looked away again, joining in with her segment without missing a beat.
“She took off her high heeled shoes, they were made of Spanish leather, she put on her low heeled shoes” As she closed to the end of the bit, Steven joined, their voice mixing perfectly as they sang together for the first time. “And they both ride off together, both ride off together.”
Quieting down, Steven let Dodo finish the song with her last line, her finger still dancing easily across the guitare. As she sang, he couldn’t help but ponder the lyrics, thinking perhaps there was something more to it than just a random song she picked.
“Last night I lay in my feather bed, next to my husband and baby. Tonight I lay on the cold, cold ground next to my Black Jack David, next to my Black Jack David” Dodo dragged out the last few words, her fingers almost slipping and messing up the chords as she looked at Steven. Though he was not singing, he was silently whispering the lyrics as she sang.
“That was beautiful” Steven whispered as Dodo stopped playing, his entire being spellbound what he had just heard. The amount of talent she had just displayed had him completely floored. Somehow, it also made Dodo all the more attractive, the shining aura of happiness and beauty somehow ten folding as she played around with strings of the instrument. “You could probably do it professionally, if you wanted.”
Dodo giggled, giving Steven a fond look as she continued to experiment with the guitare. “Probably not. My aunt calls it unbecoming. Besides, she says you can’t have children if you do this. You can’t just leave them, and they can’t travel with you.” Dodo sigh, laying down the guiatre beside her. Frowning, the played with the hem of her skirt. “Nothing I want is good enough to be combinable with children and a husband and a house. Your better off just being a stay at home mom.” Dodo sniffed, sweeping away a few horrified tears trickling down her cheeks.
“Yeah right. That’s stupid opinions Dodo, and you know it!” Steven spoke angrily, stopping abruptly as he realized that maybe she didn’t know. They had picked her up while in 1966, after all. Between her and Steven stood hundreds of years of fights for equality and women’s rights and attempts to erase Toxic masculinity. And though the future maybe wasn’t perfect, it was certainly better  than 1966 would have been. “You can do anything you want and have any family or property you like. Anyone who tells you anything else is a moron.”
Stunned, Dodo stared at Steven, her mouth half open as she tried to take in the message. Then,  she smiled. Without warning, she reached up, pushing herself off the floor to kiss Steven on the cheek and lingering just a moment too long. When she was done, she pulled away, strumming up a little music number.
“The girls in New York City, they all march for women's lib. And better homes and garden shows, the modern way to live. And the pill may change the world tomorrow, but meanwhile, today” Dodo paused, a wry smile on her face. Her voice was more assertive, sarcastic and powerful as opposed to the softness with which she’d sung the last song. “Here in Topeka, the flies are a buzzin', the dog is a barkin' and the floor needs a scrubbin', one needs a spankin' and one needs a huggin' and lord, one's on the way.” Dodo finished with flare, her intense gaze set on Steven.
“I sincerely hope you are being sarcastic, Dodo, and that this is not how you feel after everything I just told you.” Steven commented smugly, watching as Dodo shook her head definitely.
“No, not at all. Just came to think of it, and thought it’d be fun. I like American music a lot, it’s more down to Earth than British music” She quickly blushed, looking away from Steven. “Not that it’s wrong to like British music.” An awkward silence settled over them and Dodo played with her skirt, and Steven tried to figure out whether to be offended or not, considering he wasn’t even certain what ‘British music’ meant to Dodo. “Anyway” She cleared her throat, casually looking around her and trying to avoid looking embarrassed. “Where has The Doctor gone to?”
“What? He’s right…” Looking around, Steven found that the Doctor had indeed disappeared. Where to was anybody’s guess, but he was in fact missing. Steven smiled slyly. “Maybe he thought we’d enjoyed the music night more just the two of us?” He suggested, thinking it might actually be a bit of a blessing. That way, it’d be less awkward when he eventually came around to asking Dodo why she kept kissing him.
Not that he found Dodo kissing him now as stressing as it had been the first time, though.
Dodo shrugged. “Fine by me. Will you play something for me?” As positive and straightforward as always, Dodo turned around to offer him the guitar. “If you want to play” She clarified. “If you don’t prefer the piano of course.”
“I think I’ll take the piano, actually.” Steven nodded, turning around and positioning his fingers on the keys, before passing. What was he going to play? He wasn’t a musical genius and he didn’t quite hold the raw talent Dodo did. Maybe something romantic he mused. Though that might imply he was in love with Dodo, and he wasn’t, now was  he? A weak blush crept up his cheeks, and Steven abruptly put his focus back on the keys in front of him. He took a deep breath.
Slowly pushing down a few keys at random, a song suddenly came to his mind, and he allowed himself run with the thought. “There was a time, I used to look into my father's eyes. In a happy home, I was a king I had a golden throne. Those days are gone, now the memories are on the wall. I hear the sounds from the places where I was born.” Hazy memories run through Stevens mind as he play. He sees his mother and his father, people he could barely remember, laughing and smiling and holding him. The warmth and love of a life he’d lost before he realised how precious it was.
“Steven?” Dod’s soft voice is small, and he abruptly realize he stopped singing.
He picked it up again, jumping in like nothing happened. “There was a time, I met a girl of a different kind. We ruled the world,
Thought I'll never lose her out of sight. We were so young, I think of her now and then. I still hear the songs, reminding me of a friend” Steven thinks of Vickie. He miss Vickie she was one of his best friends.
But Vickie had never made his chest burn the way Dodo did, and just thinking of it there was something immensely important seating Vickie from Dodo.
Steven had never loved Vickie.
But Steven loved Dodo.
“Feeling my way through the darkness,
guided by a beating heart. I can't tell where the journey will end, but I know where to start” As Steven’s song died out, Dodo replaced it one of her own, her sweet vocal filling the room once more. “They tell me I'm too young to understand. They say I'm caught up in a dream. Well life will pass me by if I don't open up my eyes, well that's fine by me!” She stops. Dodo looks at Steven and their eyes meet, a moment loaded with more emotion than Steven ever imagined feeling in his entire life passing between the two of them.
“So wake me up when it's all over, when I'm wiser and I'm older. All this time I was finding myself, and I didn't know I was lost.” Steven’s familiar with the song, filling in missing lyrics with ease.
“I tried carrying the weight of the world, but I only have two hands. I hope I get the chance to travel the world, but I don't have any plans” Dodo continued to sing, her fingers dancing across guitare but her eyes frequently look away to meet Steven’s. Tears were pooling in them, he noticed, and suddenly it felt like someone was squeezing his heart so tight it might just break under the pressure of it. “I wish that I could stay forever this young, not afraid to close my eyes. Life's a game made for everyone, and love is the prize.”
Steven smiled at Dodo, and this time, it was he to leaned in to kiss her. Their lips brushed against each other and Steven could feel Dodo’s arms wrapping around his neck. He took it as encouragement, grabbing her waist and pulling her up to sit beside him on piano bench.
“I love you Steven.” Dodo whispered, her lips leaving his as she snuggled into the crook of his neck. “You are the best guy I ever met.” The arms around his neck hold together, and he hold her around her back, protecting her.
“I love too” Steven replies, feeling the words getting stuck in his throat but pushing himself to say it anyway. Because he loves her, he truly do. Steven Taylor completely love Dodo Chaplet. And he knows, that at this moment she needs to hear it. “So, that was why you kept kissing me, did you?” Steven suggested.
“I didn’t know how to tell you...it’d have been so awkward to just say it!” Dodo giggled from over her shoulder. He could practically hear his smile. “But then you were with the guitarre and I just...I thought that this, this is the man I love. And I kissed you.”
Dodo’s childish description of her feelings towards him made Steven’s heart flutter, and he leaned in, kissing  her in top of the head. “And I think that was a very good idea”
---
A few hours later, The Doctor came wandering back into the console room. Having kept out for several hours to let his companions untangle all those messy human feelings, he smiled at what he found.
Both his companions lay together on the floor, sleeping, caught in a strong and warm embrace even as they slept.
Unceremoniously, The Doctor threw a flew blankets over them, figuring that it would do for the time being until they woke up and decided to get off the floor.
Still, as cross as The Doctor was for his companions being irresponsible and sleeping on the floor; he was glad they had worked out everything between them. Human emotions were ugly and complicated, and it was always best to keep them to a minimum and keep as positive as possible.
Besides, they looked happy and content, and for The Doctor, that was what mattered the most.

My Classic Who Secret Santa gift for @stephadoo! The prompt was anything involving Dodo, Sarah Jane, or Ian/Barbara, and I didn't know how to choose between such good options, so I ended up incorporating all of them into this little fic. I'm overly critical of my own writing, so I don’t know if this is very good or not, but I hope you enjoy it. <3
It was a cold December night and Dodo Chaplet, having long since been made wary of catching colds, was bundled in a warm coat and scarf as she made her way through the busy and brightly lit streets. She walked quickly by a display of dolls and headed inside one of the local shops to buy a greeting card to send to her old friends, Polly and Ben. It had been some time since she'd last seen them in person, the pair having moved to India to run an orphanage, but they tried their best to remain in contact, which Dodo was grateful for as there was no one else she could talk with about the Doctor and the things she'd seen, and they'd grown very close over the years.   She smiled as she found a card displaying the image of the BT Tower, or the Post Office Tower as it had been called when she met her friends -- and when she had left another. Thoughts of the Doctor filled her mind as she went to the counter to purchase the card. She thought of him often, of course, and around the holidays the subject of her old friend was near impossible to ignore, because in the last several years almost every Christmas had been met with some alien invasion or another. Dodo would never forget how she felt to see spaceships in the sky once more. But every year, the mysterious threats would suddenly disappear, and something in her knew that the Doctor was still at it. Still saving the universe and protecting those who couldn't protect themselves. She didn't regret her decision to return to an ordinary life, but she had to admit she missed the life of adventure, and she wondered how her old friend was faring these days or what he even looked like, since Polly and Ben explained to her that his body had "renewed" itself since she saw him last. It felt like lifetimes since WOTAN, since her travels through time and space. The sound of the TARDIS was almost a distant echo.   Her thoughts were distracted by a nearby couple not much older than herself, standing by a clothes rack and examining a very smart black coat. "Oh, Ian," said the woman, with the joy of nostalgia in her voice, "doesn't this remind you of him?"   The man smiled and let out a cheerful chuckle marked with age. "Yes, I suppose it does. Say, do you think he would get it if we had this delivered to Totter's Lane?" he joked, earning a laugh and a playful jab in the ribs from his wife. Dodo supposed that this inside joke would probably be quite funny if she understood it. But she smiled anyway, because the coat did remind her of someone as well, though of course she knew it wasn't whoever they were thinking of. ~~~   As Dodo was walking home from the shops, her usually quiet street was disrupted by the sudden cry of, "Gotcha!", followed by a loud CLANG! and exasperated whispers. She paused in her tracks and listened in on the commotion.   "Clyde! Can't you be any quieter?!" came the irritated voice of a young woman.   "I'm trying to catch a speedy little green blob monster in a tin pot, I'm doing my best! Come on, it's getting away!"   Wait. Green blob monster?   There was a continuing series of clanging sounds and grunts of exertion intermingled with warnings of, "Careful!" and, "It went that way!". Dodo noticed that there was a third voice involved, that of a mature older woman who spoke to the others like they were her children. Dodo hadn't felt such curiosity and desire to investigate since the city of the Elders, and she soon couldn't take it anymore and followed the voices around the corner, where she was met with the sight of the woman and two teenagers frantically chasing a small green creature that appeared to be gelatinous and was definitely faster than it looked. The boy attempted once more to trap it inside of an old pot, and upon failure decided it would be for the best that the woman try instead, and he handed the pot to her, though she didn't have much better luck.   Suddenly, the creature began to speed down the street and in the direction of the hiding Dodo, who had a brief moment of panic as she quickly tried to think of what course of action she should take. It had been so long since she'd done anything like this. A moment later she bent to the ground, took off her scarf and held it outstretched. The little blob promptly sped into it, causing it to be disoriented long enough for the other woman to snatch it up into the pot and firmly close the lid. Everyone took a few moments to breathe with relief.   "Is it dangerous?" Dodo soon asked.   "No, not dangerous, just mischievous," replied the woman, "and not fond of containment," she added with a gentle smile. She stood up to hand the creature over to the young girl, then helped Dodo up from the ground. "But it's nothing for you to worry about. It's for the best if you just forget that you saw this."   Dodo let out a laugh. "Not a chance! It's been years since- I mean, I used to do things like this meself. I traveled all over the place with a couple of friends of mine. We saw so many things together, things like this. It was out of this world." She smiled to herself, remembering the Doctor and Steven more clearly than ever, reliving the memories of aliens and other times and other worlds. With a reminiscent gleam in her eyes, she added, "It was absolutely fab."   The trio all looked among each other, sharing the same thought.   "Your friend... was he called the Doctor?" the woman asked tentatively, failing to hide excitement.   Dodo's heart sped up and her face broke into a large grin. "Yes, yes he was! You know him?"   "I traveled with him for a time as well, though I imagine he looked different when you knew him. What's your name?"   "Dodo Chaplet, and yours?"   "Sarah Jane Smith," she replied, shaking Dodo's hand.   "The journalist?" Dodo inquired. "Oh, I've read some of your articles, I think they're smashing!"   Sarah Jane was taken aback by the sudden compliment, but smiled. "Thank you very much." Then her expression changed as if she just realized something she'd forgotten. "Oh, these are my friends, this is Rani and this is Clyde," she introduced, pointing to them respectively.   "Nice to meet you," Clyde said as he reached forward to shake Dodo's hand, while Rani had to make do with a pleasant smile and an awkward 'hello' as she tried to keep the little creature from escaping containment again.   Dodo was still grinning from ear to ear, showing off the wrinkles on her face. Excitedly, she asked, "Would you like to join me at my flat and share stories over some tea?"   "We would love that," Sarah Jane replied kindly for all three of them. They would deal with the creature later. It wouldn't be getting away again, so there was no harm in holding onto it a little longer... probably.   Dodo began to lead the way down the street. "Alright, what first... Oh! I went to the Wild West once! That was a hoot! The Doctor had a toothache, I held a gun to Doc Holliday, my friend Steven sang while I played piano..."

We were thinking a lot about Dodo today so wrote a little fic that slots in right between her entrance in the Massacre and the first scene in The Ark.
The Doctor asked Steven to show Dodo around the ship but he could barely pull her attention away from the central console and all the blinking lights and switches.  He didn’t want to admit that showing Dodo the TARDIS would make a welcome distraction from having to confront his previous argument with the Doctor- after all- the Doctor didn’t seem to have any intention of dealing with his protests. They both had their own opinion and neither was in the mood to budge.
Dodo on the other hand was filled with a wide-eyed wonder and an innocence that Steven was afraid of. He wasn’t entirely sure that they could keep her safe. But there was no time to mull over it. It had happened, she was with them, and there was nothing they could do to change the circumstances.
“This way,” Steven said, tugging at the girl’s sleeve. “Do you want to see the rest of the ship or not?”
“I still don’t believe you that it is a ship,” she replied as she followed him out of the two doors and into an alcove.
“What do you think it is a fairground ride?”
Steven pulled her away as her hand reached toward the food machine. “Didn’t anyone ever tell you not to touch what’s not yours?”
Dodo folded her arms. “You must be fun at parties. Sounds just like me aunt.”
“Well good, maybe someone around here needs to be like your aunt. And that’s another thing, aren’t you the least bit concerned that you may never see her again or your home?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I know this is all a fun scheme.”
Steven placed his hands on his hips. “I give up! It doesn’t bother you at all?”
“Well I suppose you and the old man are a bit odd. You’re not a couple of serial killers are you?”
“We could be and that’s why you should be a little bit worried.”
“What?” Dodo said, backing away from him. “You’ve kidnapped me? On purpose?”
Steven sighed. “No, believe me, this time the kidnapping on the Doctor’s part was entirely accidental.”
“This time?” Dodo backed further away. “You’re having me on aren’t you? Did big Tony put you up to this?”
Steven silently mouthed ‘Big Tony’ but didn’t reply to her question. “Look, all I’m saying is, you seem to be taking this much too easily. But to reassure you, the Doctor and I, we’re not serial killers, we’re not too bad people really, well… I’m not anyway.” The last part of his sentence sounded harsh and cutting.
“Yeah what is it with you two anyway?” Dodo asked as she followed Steven as he made the way to the wardrobe room. “You could cut the tension with a knife.”
“Just a disagreement,” he replied, spinning around to face her but when he did, he noticed her speed past him and into the room ahead.  He caught up with her. “Slow down.”
“Fab!” she said as she saw the massive room floor to ceiling with clothes of every kind. “It’s like the opposite of Narnia.”
“What?”
“Coming into a magical world and ending up in a wardrobe.”
Steven had no idea what Narnia was but found himself swatting her hands away from items of clothing which were entirely impractical. She looked at him. “I don’t even know your name do I?”
“Steven Taylor. Look, why don’t you choose an outfit you like, the Doctor won’t mind. Pick something casual for a trip. It’ll help you settle in a bit.”
Dodo spun around holding a long ballroom gown in her arms. Steven snatched it away. “Not that!”
She ignored him and placed a bowler hat on her head. “What’s the Doctor’s name?”
Steven took the bowler hat and flung it into the depths of the wardrobe. Before she had a chance to pick up a Stetson, he pulled her arms away again. “He doesn’t have a name, he’s just the Doctor.”
“Well that’s silly, everyone has a name.”
“More silly than being called Dodo?”
“Alright, get your point but it isn’t really a believable alias is it?”
Steven sighed. “The name thing bothers you but the time and space travel is not in the least bit strange?”
“Time travel?” Dodo laughed. “Don’t tell me we’re gonna meet Morlocks. Haven’t got Rod Taylor hiding about in here have you, not related by any chance?”
“I don’t know who Rod Taylor is. I’m not from the 1960’s.”
Dodo hadn’t taken in his words as she held up a glittery jumpsuit in front of her at the mirror side. Steven was tired and still reeling from his traumatic experience in Paris. It was even harder when Dodo shared such a resemblance with Anne Chaplet and was reminding him every moment of his awful experience. He sat down upon one of the armchairs by the door.
Dodo looked at her appearance in the mirror, straightening her hair which had become unruly. In the mirror she could see Steven sitting in the background. “So, not from my time? So you’re a time traveller now?”
“That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you. I’m from the future and the Doctor’s an alien.”
Dodo burst into laughter and threw the jumpsuit as though she was in her own bedroom rather than someone else’s home. “Now you’re just having me on again.”
Steven was agitated but knew soon enough that Dodo would be greeted with her first alien world or historical period and would have to face the harsh realities. Besides he couldn’t be too harsh on her, he too hadn’t believed the TARDIS was a time machine when he first stumbled aboard.
“Look, believe what you want, Dodo, but you’re in my care now and you need to be wary, that’s all. You don’t know anything about this life.”
“Well then you’ll help me won’t you? Never had an older brother. Always fancied a big family. Never had a grandpa neither, now looks like I might have both.”
Steven felt sorry for Dodo. If she was so blasé and naïve it was probably because she didn’t have any excitement in her life and no-one to care for her. He got up from his chair and made his way to the racks of clothes. He pulled out a plain t-shirt and a pair of small jeans. “Here, what about these?” He thought he was being nice by offering her something.
Dodo grimaced. “Not digging those. I need something a bit adventurous. I mean, if this is a time machine and a space ship I need to look the part.”
She squealed as she saw the crusader outfit hanging on one of the coat-hangers next to a blood-stained tunic that she didn’t seem to notice. “That’s more like it.”
She looked at Steven who stared dumbfounded at her choice.
“Well, where do I change, I’m not going to strip off with you standing there am I?”
Steven pointed to the large ornate dressing screen in the corner of the room. “You know we’re probably not going to land in the Crusades which is probably the only time you could actually look right in that outfit? Even then it’s probably not historically accurate.”
Dodo laughed as she scurried behind the screen and started to undress, throwing her coat and previous clothes over the screen. “You really are like a big brother, trying to tell me how to dress.”
“I didn’t mean to boss you about I’m just trying to prepare you for what’s next.”
“Because if we’re talking about clothes, your outfit isn’t exactly right either.”
Steven looked down at his shirt and trousers. “What’s wrong with it?”
“Nothing’s wrong exactly but where’s the fun in it?”
“It’s not meant to be fun, it’s meant to be practical.”
“Oh you’re practical alright.” She emerged from behind the screen, ready to go in her new outfit, grinning proudly.
Steven couldn’t help but laugh.  She certainly liked to be different and he knew he had his work cut out for their next adventure. She still didn’t seem to believe that this wasn’t a game and only time would tell how she was going to cope to the universe outside the TARDIS doors.
But he liked her. She was friendly and she was fun and she was a welcome change from travelling solely with the Doctor. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad.
He smiled and put his arm around her. “Come on then, let’s go outside, see where we’ve landed.”
“Fab!”

About
Located in the constellation of Kasterborous in the Seven Systems, at galactic coordinates 10-0-11-00:02 from the Galactic Zero Center, there was once a planet named Gallifrey. Gallifrey was most known for being the epicenter of the Last Great Time War and the place it was ultimately ended, by Gallifrey’s destruction. With the planet’s destruction, in it’s wake also came the destruction of many races of beings; Gallifreyans, flutterwings, Woprats, trunkikes, yaddlefish, flubbles, tafelshrews, and rovies, all of which lived there. The Daleks, from the planet Skaro, who’d been fighting on Gallifrey, fighting against the planet and people there, were also all destroyed, according to recounts. But beyond the Time War, Gallifrey was most known for being the home planet of one being in particular, or rather, a ranking of Gallifreyans; the Time Lords.
The Time Lords became known across the universes; they were the watchers over time and stopped Time anomalies such as Paradoxes. They’d created a specific type of technology, know then forth as ‘Time Lord Technology’ in which the inside of a room, place, or thing, was much, much bigger than the outside, essentially creating a sort of pocket universe within. But, their real rise in popularity, the real reason they would become even known of, was because of one Time Lord in particular. That Time Lord was the Doctor.
The Doctor was Gallifrey’s favourite renegade, he stole a Tardis one day (a Time and space machine), took his granddaughter Susan and left the planet they’d both been raised on. It was speculated, years and years later, that the Doctor had somehow discovered the inevitable arrival of the Time War, and the out come of it. It had scared him, and so, he ran away. Others said that, when he first saw the Time Vortex as a child, as was customary for Gallifreyan’s who attended the Time Academy as to become Time Lord, it was it that had scared him and made him run away as soon as he was able. One thing is for certain though, the Doctor has kept running ever since.
As was shown with Gallifrey’s history, Time Lords were not supposed to interfere in the events of Time, they were simply meant to observe, record, and keep its order. The Doctor, however, always seemed to do the exact opposite of this. As a curious, young old man, in his own words, there were many pressing reasons for his original departure of his home planet, both in answering what he was running away from, and what he was running away to.
“There is Good, and there is Evil. I left Gallifrey to answer a question of my own. By any analysis, Evil should always win. ‘Good’ is not a practical survival strategy. It requires loyalty, self-sacrifice, and, uh, love. As so, why does Good prevail? What keeps the balance between Good and Evil in this appalling universe? Is there some kind of logic? Some, mysterious force?”
“Perhaps there’s just a bloke……. Ya. Perhaps there’s just some bloke, wondering around, putting everything right when it goes wrong.”
When the Doctor left Gallifrey, he left with his granddaughter, Susan. Taking her with him as he we went, he took an old Tardis from the museum, all of them there long since used, collecting dust with their old age. Time Lords had once been each given a Tardis themselves, all made by hand by Rassilon. Upon becoming a Time Lord, he would change their biology, allowing them to “cheat” death in forms of 12 regenerations; every single cell creating their very being would be healed from the injury or age and would then simultaneously be destroy and replace by new ones. The end result is a new body, a new face, and new personality; a new Time Lord, but, with the same memories, or soul, as before. They’d be different but could continue to live with a new life. However, Time Lords had long since traveled through Time and space freely, and a new Tardis had long since been created. But, Gallifreyans could still go to the Time Academy to become a Time Lord, destined to a life of watching over all of Time from their safe and comfy homes in the Capital. That was how the Doctor had become a Time Lord, but it was not what he planned on doing for all of his lives.
The Doctor took Susan through Time and space until they landed on Earth. There, the age and condition of the Tardis he had stolen became prevalent. It broke, and the chameleon circuit; a mechanism within the machine that was meant to change the outer appearance of the Tardis, as to help it blend in and thus become less seen in the various places it landed, stopped working. After one last, final change, the Doctor’s Tardis would forever stay looking as a Police Box from the 1960’s in the Earth country England. Similar to phonebooths years later, a Police Box was a blue, wooden box with a phone inside. Each phone was connected directly to the closest police department, as to be used to reach them in times of trouble. Since not every home in England had their very own phone, nor could the operators connect everyone to the police within a needed time, they became very popular.
While on Earth, Susan enrolled within the local High School there, prevailing higher than her “peers” in most subjects, which she’d been taught to her already much early back on Gallifrey. It was there, and during this time, that some of her teachers became suspicious of her home life, and followed her back to the junkyard that her grandfather’s Tardis had landed in. Ian and Barbra, along with Susan, became the Doctor’s first traveling companions, as he’d taken them all across Time and space going through Earth’s history and to other planets. But, as he would soon learn, not everything lasted.
Susan had grown so much since the two had left their home planet, and thus, she wanted to start a life for herself, get married even. Ian and Barbra would also leave their travels with the Doctor as well, but he would never be alone for long. As he’d become accustom to traveling with companions; with friends, and, as was his luck, he’d meet new ones; humans named Vicki and Steven Taylor. Soon, they would leave too, and the Doctor would meet Katarina, Sara Kingdom, Dodo Chaplet, Polly, and Ben Jackson.
As the years past, the adventures the Doctor and his friends would have would change too, as would he. The Time Lord hadn’t been the youngest Time Lord on Gallifrey when he’d left, and, sometimes his adventures weren’t the safest. After an encounter with the Cybermen in Antarctica which caused a loss of his strength to maintain his ancient body, due to Mondas draining a large portion of his life force, the Doctor regenerated for the first time. The whole process, although spoken of on Gallifrey, was new to him, as it was his first time dying and changing. It scared him, until, while trying to avoid his upcoming regeneration, he was met with a future incarnation of his many, many regenerations later. Although still scared of not knowing exactly what life would hold for him in his future after a regeneration, of who he would become, the fear changed into reassurance. His older self was a good man, and the Doctor accepted his fate of one day becoming him.
“One day, I shall come back. Yes. I shall come back. Until then, there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties. Just go forward in all your beliefs and prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine.”
The Doctor believed in people, he believed in being good and that Good would prevail, despite logic or he himself exactly understanding how. He became a hero to so many, and a savior to countless others. He effected so many people’s lives, for the better, and he would continue to do so for all of his lives to come. He’d pick up those he saw “fit”, or rather, those who the universe saw fit for him. He’d take them away in his blue box and show them all of Time and space for as long as he had with them. Some would leave, some would be unable to ever return again, and some would even die. But through it all, the Doctor lived on, and he lived doing the very best he could, being the very best Doctor he could be.
“Never be cruel and never be cowardly. And never ever eat pears! Remember – hate is always foolish… and love, is always wise. Always try, to be nice, and never fail to be kind…… Laugh hard. Run fast. Be kind.”

okay, new system is a-go, next thing is how many slots go to each category. My current thought process is to pick a number for nominees and make the slots for the other categories proportional fo their size. So for example, if 8 slots went to nominations, there would be 56 left for the regulars which breakes down into 27 for classic, 16 for nu, and 13 for eu.
I'll copy the information from last time under a cut for anyone who didn't see, also I have added Anji to the list for eu, I'm considering the members of the paternoster gang but i think that's going to end up being a no
for the following numbers, they go classic-nu-eu-noms
I made a mistake, the option for 9 noms should read 27-15-13-9
