she's hesitant to agree, all focus directed towards the space in which they once lingered.  ( a pointed gaze  —  but it looked more akin to a glare  ...  )  it wasn't that cloud couldn't handle himself. if anything, she knew better than anyone that he could. yet ... when it came to running into trouble ... it seemed he had a knack for it. the area wasn't one they were familiar with ;  he wanted to split up & cover more ground, whereas tifa felt otherwise. there was no bitter arguing, only reluctance. he couldn't have known there had been a recent influx of monsters — for that reason, she couldn't have blamed him. it takes a moment for his words to register, a soft exhale following.

           ❛  guess it's a good thing i found when i did ,  huh ?  ❜   she smiled softly, turning around to face him. he seemed relatively fine, if not a little defeated. her steps brought her slightly closer to him, careful to keep a fair amount of distance between them.   ❛  hey  —  cloud  ...  it's fine .  ❜   words meant to soothe him & yet there was a fear she had only used them to ease her own worries. surely he would've made it out alive, with or without her help — but her heart remained in a state of unspoken unrest until she knew, for certain, every one of her friends were safe from harm  ( be it physical or mental obstacles ;  nothing was too much for her to share the weight of ).

cloud was, quite obviously, included in that sentiment.  ( the bonds of memory & the bones that built them should not be tampered with ,  for only heartache would follow )   ❛  you weren't hurt were you ?  nothing we need to get checked out ?  ❜

ANGER.     jaw clenching,   hands balling into fists,   teeth grinding,   yelling,   going non verbal,   stuttering speech,   rushed speech,   slow concise speech,   rambling,   quiet,   arms crossing,   shaking head,   tearing up,   animated,   expressionless,   projects,   internalizes,   vents,   withdraws,   passive aggressive,   direct,   physical outbursts,  verbal outbursts.

JOY.        easy smiles,   fighting back grins,   suppressed laughter,   loud laughter,   giggles,   chuckling,   smirks,   whole body laughs,   covers mouth when laughing / giggling,   throws head back when laughing,   slaps leg,   touches people around them when laughing,   looks down when laughing,   looks for eye contact when laughing,   sparkling eyes,   bubbly happiness,   quiet subtle happiness,   obnoxious happiness,   wants to spread joy,   quietly savours joy.

SADNESS.   crying,   bottling it up,   seeks distractions,   wallows,   meditates,  trains and processes,   avoidance,   seeks out comfort,   withdraws,  talks it out,   internalizes it,    sad smiles,   depression naps,   uses alcohol,   uses drugs,   seeks out sources of joy,   fidgets with sentimental item,   sits in silence,   broods,   gets moody,  wants someone to share the misery, tries to hide negative emotions,   nurtures others to make themselves feel better.

EMBARRASSMENT / SHAME.         blushing,   looking away,   rubbing at back of head,   covering face,   laughing nervously,   laughs it off,   overthinks,   lets it go,   self deprecating humor,   deflects,   gets irritated,   smiles,   withdraws,   crossing arms over stomach,   crossing arms over chest,   hands in pockets,   shoulders sinking,  shrugs,   falling into silence until comfortable again,   talking a lot to compensate.

GUILT.         avoiding eye contact,   shoulders sinking low,   head hanging down,   crying,   chest aches,   lashes out,   internalizes,   apologizes,   deflects,   communicates,   withdraws,   grand gestures for forgiveness,   accepts fault easily,   punishes themselves,   martyrdom,   victim complex,   guilt complex,   healthy conscience,   internalizes even after forgiveness,   seeking redemption,   moves on easily,   denial,   lack of guilt / conscience,  sorry they got caught more than caused harm,  can’t handle knowing they hurt others.

FEAR / ANXIETY.     trembling,   crying,   sarcasm / sass to cope,   rambles,   goes silent,   gets angry,   fidgeting,   clenching jaw,   picking at nails,   chewing at lip,   pulling at clothes,   adjusting jewellery / clothing,   swallowing thickly,   eyes widening,   over-reacts,   under-reacts,   calm,   logical,   panic,   irrational,   overthinks,   carefully analyzes,   talks to themselves,   breathing exercises,   flight,   fight,   withdraw,   fawn.

** some of these are situational , so i have italicized a lot of them (they may seem contradictory) ! i could go more in depth on it but that's for another time :)

the almost kiss

you're unsure about things, always hesitating. why is that? maybe there's something to lose for you, but maybe (just maybe) the risk is worth it. you're the moment when the main characters lean in, lips parted and almost touching. but it's not the actual kiss everyone loves, it's the anticipation. when they look into each other's eyes before their lids flutter close. and there's a lot of frustration when things are interrupted. trust me though, you're a lot more memorable than the actual kiss. you're nervous, but at the end of the day all you want is to be loved.

you try so hard to be a beacon of hope for everyone, but nobody’s a beacon of hope for you. most likely, someone’s betrayed you in the past. it’s not like you’re easy to walk over, you just believe(d) too much in the inherent good of people. that isn’t a bad thing, and there’s nothing wrong with being kind and forgiving… i just feel kind of bad for you. i hope you can get a friend who doesn’t fuck with your head and take advantage of your kindness for once.

disgust drips off of every word, the sneer of his lips and roll of his eyes ( impossible to hide ). though, heidegger wouldn't, in truth, know who the blonde actually is. not beneath the shinra issue mask and uniform that the other man dons.

no, heidegger simply speaks to him as he would any of his own. hands on his hips and body leaning forth into the other's personal space - words loud, despite their whisper.

"fuck this up and i will see it personally that you are appropriately punished." any mishaps during the president's parade and heidegger knows who'll get it. ( not them, but him ). and, lords, had rufus been ruthless so far. the workload impeded upon him something heinous ( something, permanently headache inducing ).

"hm-" he cocks a brow, distracted by the burden upon the soldier's back. a blade big enough for heidegger to wonder what the other's compensating for. his height, perhaps? "gyaha-! that's what i call a blade!"

enlightened soul you have acquired the enlightened soul. you are too big for your body. your mind. you seek out everything you possibly can. it fills the insatiable hunger laying in your chest. you want to know everything. the good, the bad. everything in between. let them call you selfish for you know that you are not. not all selfishness comes from malice. some would be wise to learn that. you're savvy and quick on your feet. but in this path you find yourself lonely. like no one can quite catch up to you. while one admires the thirst for knowledge sometimes meaningful connections tether you back to the ground. let yourself rest and reset. it's not always moving backward when you are stagnant.
