Track: Along the Way by Keith Coplin
I felt very relaxed while listening to the song “Along the Way,” by Keith Coplin. My poster come from ideas of stress and stress relievers, which include skating, and doing things you love to do. The fire represents stress as does the zombie and when you’re stressed you just feel worn out, tired, and dead like a zombie. So when I listen to the song I think of everything that stresses me out, the things that don’t, and put them into one piece because the song also is very chill.

I've done my due diligence. . .
My students have a weekly current event assignment due every Friday and part of the grade is following directions. So to save my sanity this year I gave them a format sheet and example of what I should look like when they turn it in. Then we did one together as a group. Then the next day I gave them one full of errors and I had them correct it. So I'm thinking when they turn in their first solo current event they were going to be flawless.
Well, I was wrong. I received a bunch of rubbish and sat at my desk confused, frustrated, and dumbfounded.

Track: Letitkillyou by Justin Huebner
I listened to the song by Chapters and my mind was taken to an island. The idea of isolation and death, yet hope and beauty. I made an anchor holding down the island showing the weight dragging it down and the chain is the lyrics “We are all drowning.” It is a dark storm with this essence of beauty that attracts people and makes them think. There’s a crow looking into the distance and his vision can be seen through the storm which shows there’s something to look forward to. The tree represents life and the moon is shining light upon it to keep it alive.

Track: Letitkillyou by Justin Huebner
The group, “Chapters,” illuminated myself with a perspective of a chilled entity. Classic beauty is the embodiment of the piece, “Letitkillyou.” The relaxing and ominous intensity that flows throughout the mind is a true euphoric experience. The collaboration of guitars, vocals and drums formed a moralized human that became the elaborate beast of the song.

Track: The Feeling by Alex Kelly
My design response was inspired by the song “The Feeling” by artist Alex Kelly. This song is filled with many interesting beats that bring strong visualization to my mind. I immediately thought of dolphins, vibrant colors, high energy, and a trippy outer space vibe. I represented that imagery by integrating dolphins jumping between a set of speakers in outer space, bright curvy lines, and implied textures and patterns.

Track: Letitkillyou by Justin Huebner
In the song “Letitkillyou” there is a line saying “I woke up at the bottom of the sea.” I decided to visualize that imagery. I expressed that line by showing the ocean filled with silhouettes of sea creatures. I then used a bubble-letter text for the lyrics and distorted them to create an organic feel.

AUDIO CHROMA CD (All Tracks)
I created this piece because the whole album reminded me of death and dark topics, such as skulls. I also added the lightning in the background to make the poster pop. Some of the songs in the album reminded me of peace and love, so I drew some flowers to balance death and peace in my drawing. The album was very different for me because I’ve never heard some of the types of music that were played. I found the songs very interesting and I hope I can do a project like this again.

Track: Hunger by Alex Dickmann
Alex Dickmann’s song “Hunger” inspired me to design my drawing by his background music. When listening to his song I felt as if the song was kind of “Halloweenish” and “American Horror Story” theme song. The way I designed my drawing was in sections from his music. The hand with the blade finger represents the background music and the way you can hear the “blades” in the background. The skull represents the main idea as in the main music, right when I started listening to his song it made me think of Halloween and the theme song from American Horror story.

Track: The Feeling by Alex Kelly
“In Love With a Love That Doesn’t Exist.” — This piece and the song fit with each other like a puzzle. The song is abstract, slow, and toned down. In my eyes I see a couple who is about to let go of each other but had to connect one more time.
The woman to the left is what the male is thinking: She wants to stay together, she holds onto him tight. The hands on both corners are showing them still holding each other but letting go.

Track: Letitkillyou by Justin Huebner
My graphic design piece was inspired by the song “Letitkillyou.” It is a very emotional song because it made me think of dark blue and grey colors. Letitkillyou also made me think of rain because of its theme of drowning. My piece shows someone who is “drowning” in the rain by choice because they have given up on staying dry. No matter if they use their umbrella or not they will still get soaked. I feel like this portrays the singer’s feeling of despair in the song.

Track: Letitkillyou by Justin Huebner
I was inspired by the lines “I woke up at the bottom of the sea” and “Everyone’s drowning in their own way.” I put the skull in a sea bed to symbolize someone drowning. Only the skull is showing. The anchor is there to give depth and represent not going anywhere.

Track: Letitkillyou by Justin Huebner
I chose this image because from what I heard, the music was based on a lot of internal conflicts. It also sounded like a transition from depression to being okay. I chose this image because I felt it embodied the idea of internal awareness and external appearances.

Track: The Feeling by Alex Kelly
So for this project I created my poster based off of the song “The Feeling,” which is an instrumental song. This song made me think of very different emotions as I listened to the piece. I chose clouds because I wanted people to see that the girl in my poster was thinking about the different emotions the song gave off. The clouds are made up of pictures I have taken and edited. I chose the pictures and colors in the pictures because that’s the way the song makes me feel. Also, the colors in the pictures give off certain emotions, which changed throughout the song.

St. Louis Local Music
I created my poster on the thought of how dark Saint Louis really is while listening to Saint Louis music. In Saint Louis everybody wants fast money, fast cars, and a fast life. Everyone wants to make it out and will do anything they can to get out, rather if it’s killing for money or playing sports. Young people, that are my age, are out here killing other people and setting people up. Girls setting people up for money, guys killing people for money, setting up their own friends, family, and selling drugs. I feel like my poster represents the city the way it really is and not how outsiders see it.

Track: The Feeling
The relationship between music and design is something that happens naturally much like an emotional response to a piece of art, no matter the medium. My approach was to dissect “The Feeling” by Alex Kelly as if it were an organism and use its simplified parts as the inspiration for my work. The layering of sounds and continuous loops were the most influential elements for me and translated fluently into my design.
I wanted the repetition of geometric patterns to feel complex as a whole while still maintaining simplicity using a limited color palette and flat shapes. The title of the song felt very open ended, as if the artist wanted us to identify what “feeling” we were experiencing on our own. My response is purely abstract because I want the viewer to give it their own meaning just as I did to the song.
