The 8-bit journo: J&K's new-age news platform compatible with the Article 370 revocation
Tumblr media
Thousands of troops entered the land of Kashmir in August. Locals were quick to identify the get wind of the change that was about to happen. Speculation was in the air. Article 35A of the Indian Constitution was at the front and center of all such discourses. But, when the Indian government showed its hand, astonishment cornered every inch of the atmosphere. As of 5 August 2019, abrogation befell upon most of Article 370. J&K’s special privileges with regards to the Indian Constitution came to a cessation. Irrespective of where you stand on the legality of this decision, its brutal aftermath is undeniable. Vice’s 8-bit Journo came as a much-needed relief in this climate. One of the biggest changes facing the J&K population was the embargo on communications. The calendar is now heading towards the end of December. It has been more than 4 months since the ban. Residents of J&K have been living with limited mobile, landline, and internet connectivity. The average youngster in the state didn't have access to the country’s as well as the world’s major happenings. After the return of SMS services in the area, Vice Asia came up with the world’s first Teletext news portal on SMS. This new platform called the 8-bit Journo condensed news from the last 4 months into immersive 8-bit news articles. Thereafter, lakhs of Kashmiris received crafted SMS updates. The residents of J&K caught up with all the major events that they missed out on. Moreover, this wasn’t made possible by some new futuristic inventions. Instead, a technology from decades ago brought about the birth of this revolutionary platform. We feel that Vice’s 8-bit Journo served the residents of J&K with a humanitarian agenda. Our thoughts and prayers lie with our Kashmiri brothers and sisters transitioning into a new world order.

EVALUATIVE REPORT
I am a singer/songwriter all around artist, hailing from the glorious and gritty, Northside of London. I grew up in numerous places in north London, Tottenham and Edmonton were two of the main ones. I feel that where I have come from has influenced me, through my fashion, lingo and my aim is to deliver that through my art and craft. I was born into a very musical family and was always influenced and intrigued by many styles of music, RnB and soul/neo-soul being a few of my favourite influences. I always loved the style and Steelo of the 80’s-90’s and I express that through my fashion and even the content of my music. 90’s RnB was a lot about love and affection but also a lot of suffering and gang violence. I find that era so relatable because it's a lot of what I've seen, growing up in London. I am from the Caribbean (Jamaica and Barbados), a place of love, good weather, good food and good music. I'm a deeply driven by my roots and it is very family orientated. My family, on both, my mum and dads side, are musically talented, so I was continuously surrounded by music and grew such a love for singing and creating. We would have sing-a-longs at family parties and just be creative spontaneously, this influenced me to want to perform more from the positive feedback from family members. I first started writing from my love of poetry and learned to use writing as my escape and music as my muse. I discovered a habit of writing about my surroundings and I got inspiration to write from the good and the bad things growing up, from a child, through adolescence, to now. All of my experience include love, pain, struggle and the list goes on…I try to write from other people's perspectives and scenarios also. I want to be able to be accessible in the sense where I can reach out to people through my words and something they can relate to .I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember (as cliche as it sounds) but I never really had the confidence to pursue it. I used to do solo performances in school plays from when I was about 5-8 but I never believed in myself and was too shy. I would never sing if someone asked me to or I would disregard the fact I had a talent. I was frustrated with the fear and made it my priority to strip down myself as a person and gain that confidence to believe in myself. At the age of 13, is when started taking music seriously and when I wanted to pursue my passion. I did my first performance with the group I was in at a Black History Month Showcase, with Craig Park Youth Centre, alongside North London Rappers Wretch 32 and Scorcher. At this time I was in a group with two other girls, a singer and a rapper but I only performed with the singer on this occasion. The performance went well and I felt nervous but comfortable because I was well prepared but not long after the group split and I went on my own path. This was because the group didn't gel, there was no sense of direction and I felt like I had to know myself as a person better and being in a group was a restriction for me. I continued to do the show for 3 years and then I went along to perform at events and raves. I performed at Brixton Jam in South London at my cousins jungle and drum and bass rave. It was a different setting for me to perform in but I felt at ease and comfortable at the same time because I grew up listening to both genres. I have learned to always give your best when performing, no matter how the size of the venue or how big/small the audience is. My aim is to perform more as it has been about 3 years and I'm working on releasing my first video and E.P. The projects are going to be a reflection of all the different sides of my personality and angles of experiences. I'm want to bring back that “feel good” music, that uplifts you and people can relate to. I went on to study Music Technology @CONEL college as I was intrigued to learn the production side to music; I was always interested from seeing my dad and brother creating their own beats from scratch. They are both my inspirations especially regards to music. They have always had that D.I.Y attitude and that has instilled in me as I've grown up and it's benefitted me when creating because I'm able to do certain things as soon as I require them to be done, without having to always have to rely on others. I also studied the music industry and music business. I started to put out some music on soundcloud and got scouted by Sony to come for an audition for a girl group. I never wanted to be in a girl group again but I wanted to go for the experience and to help take myself out of my comfort zone/gain confidence. I am now on the Journey of developing my sound and style. Music is life and It’s my zen, I run to music no matter what emotion I'm feeling. As I got older, I experienced a lot of anxiety and suffered from depression when man dad passed away 3 years ago. I ended up having writers block for about a year and a half, I was demotivated but my daughter kept me going and I started to get back into gear. My aim is to release a introduction of “Shamani” E.P called Temperamental and then release my Second, the main project, Only The Humble. I'm learning to explore new ways to promote and network through using all available resources. I have supporters here and there but I wouldn't say I have a fan base and that's one of the aspects in my career that I'm trying to clock on to. Being an artist for me is you constantly evolving and expressing yourself through art. It's a release from reality; you can make a bad situation in to an amazing song and it can have a completely opposite affect and make the listeners feel good. I'm working on building my own home studio but It’s a challenge as I am a single mother but nothing is impossible and my daughter pushes me to do better and keep pushing everyday. I like to work in a space where I create from the raw, fresh, blank canvas, I feel like I “get in my zone” the best, that way. I'm learning to be more open about my approach to music and songwriting.i have a lot of friends that are upcoming artists in the U.K. Scene and I am collaborating with a few, some songwriting and some features. I am willing to work with other artists from all types of genres and backgrounds, it's a great thing to have different elements that inspire you. Mastering your craft can never get old so that is the plan. Note to self: be yourself, believe in yourself. You have the power to be and do anything!

Магия книг. Кто бы мог догадаться, что строчки в обыкновенных книгах рассказывают больше чем содержание самой книги!
