Preambolo nostalgico

Quand'ero adolescente (in tempi ormai appartenenti al vintage), potevamo trovare musica nuova in tre modi: leggendo le riviste specializzate (rare nell'edicola del paesello); grazie ad un nastro di "miste" registrato chissà dove da chissà chi; andando in un negozio di dischi, per lo più in culo al mondo, a lasciarci ispirare dalle copertine. In poche parole dovevamo un po' sbatterci, ché le band mica avevano fb od ig con le inserzioni a pagamento. Nemmeno i LB invero, ma almeno hanno Bandcamp, che è l'equivalente moderno di tutte le fonti succitate.

Così (sfrazzando e guardando le copertine su Bandcamp) mi sono letteralmente imbattuto in questi due Ep che più punk non si può. Proprio nell'attitudine, dico, prima ancora che nella musica e nei testi. Quell'inclinazione neanche vagamente commerciale, per cui i LB sviluppano un'aggressione lucida e sboccata al pop - e di conseguenza, in fondo, al conformismo - attraverso canzoni pop iconoclaste piegate ad una specie di new wave elettroacustica minimalista.

GB - When I was a teenager (in times now belonging to the vintage), we could find new music in three ways: by reading specialized magazines (rare in the village newsstand); thanks to a tape of "mixed" recorded who knows where by who knows who; going to a record store, mostly in the ass of the world, getting inspired by the covers. In a nutshell we had to work a little bit, because the bands didn't have fb or ig and related ads. Not even LB really, but at least they have Bandcamp, which is the modern day equivalent of all the above sources.

So (running around and looking at the covers) I literally came across these two EPs that couldn't be more punk. Right in the attitude, I mean, even before the music and lyrics. An inclination not even vaguely commercial, for which the LB develop a lucid and foul-mouthed aggression towards pop - and consequently, after all, towards conformity - through iconoclastic pop songs bent to a kind of minimalist electro-acoustic new wave.

Happy Birthday to and remembering Alan Vega (June 23, 1938 - July 16, 2016) R.I.P. 🖤🥀💔 @officialalanvega Born Boruch Alan Bermowitz in Brooklyn, although he was best known as the front half of the legendary electronic proto-punk/synth punk duo band Suicide who incidentally were among the first bands to use the phrase “punk music”, he was also a prolific poet, visual artist, painter and light sculptor constructing pieces out of electronic debris. Aside from Alan Vega’s menacing and growling vocals, Suicide was assaulting ears with Martin Rev’s piercing battered Farfisa organ (initially, which was replaced shortly after with synthesizers) and primitive drum machines. His early inspirations and enthusiasms were Elvis Presley and Roy Orbison which can be heard in his singing style as well as Marvel Comics’ Ghost Rider series. His menacing, volatile and confrontational stage presence and antics can be traced back to being highly influenced by Iggy Pop after witnessing The Stooges at the New York State Pavilion in 1969 who left him in awe with an epiphany. “It changed his perspective totally,” Mr. Rev recalled in a phone interview. “He said to himself he could no longer be an artist unless he performed. That was the transition.” His musical contributions especially the debut self titled Suicide album in 1977 have been indelible and and impacted various genres which inspired and influenced many notable artists namely, The Sisters of Mercy, Sigue Sigue Sputnik, Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, Björk, Daft Punk, Depeche Mode, O.M.D., Spacemen 3, The Vacant Lots, D.A.F., Nitzer Ebb, Bauhaus, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Soft Cell, Nick Cave, Joy Division, Devo, Dead Kennedys, Henry Rollins, Thurston Moore, Ric Ocasek, Bruce Springsteen to name a few as the list goes on… ⚡️🧷🎹🔪⚡️
