She is the president of the K-Club and there was an incident among members. The K-Club, she says, is about all things K-pop, from Korean music to food to movies to fashion. Mr. Musa laughs — he thought it was the ​“Kulture Club.”

Jackie goes on to give a broad overview of the situation: Racist and homophobic memes were posted in the group’s online chat of several dozen members. Tempers flared and arguments spilled over from social media into the classroom. Then a shouting match erupted during a club meeting. Fortunately, it didn’t come to blows. Members contacted the club’s teacher-advisor who contacted the school’s ​“restorative practices” team.

As a restoration facilitator, Mr. Musa’s job is to listen to problems and help students find solutions. Talking with Jackie that morning was the first step (a ​“prerestorative conference”) toward a formal ​“restorative circle.” Restorative circles are a group activity meant to help repair harm and restore relationships.

Jackie was one of several students I spoke with during two week-long visits to Roosevelt this year — once in the spring and once in the fall — to witness the school’s implementation of its new restorative practices program. Vanessa, a freshman struggling with the transition from remote learning during Covid, and Yonathan, a sophomore caught with drugs and weapons at school, were also among them. (Students involved in the RP program are referred to by first name to protect their privacy.)

Before the pandemic, armed officers known as ​“school resource officers,” or SROs, from the Des Moines Police Department would patrol the school hallways. But during the summer of racial justice marches and protests after the police murder of George Floyd, students, parents and community members spoke out against SROs at Des Moines School Board meetings. In the end, the police contract with the schools was terminated. After scrambling to make remote schooling work during the long, mournful slog of the pandemic, Des Moines Public Schools (DMPS) were left to find a way to reimagine school safety — and fast.

The district moved quickly to implement restorative practices, an increasingly popular educational model for school safety, violence prevention and mediation.

The 2021 – 2022 school year was a huge opportunity with the highest of stakes: DMPS could become one of the only districts in the nation to succeed in concurrently removing SROs and implementing restorative practices, or the district and its students could be thrown into crisis.

Restorative practices (RP) derive from ​“restorative justice,” which is used to bring together, in mutual agreement for mediation, the victim and the perpetrator of an offense. The goal is typically restitution for harm caused while helping the perpetrator restore community ties.

In education, ​“practices” is often swapped in for ​“justice” because it involves children who aren’t in criminal proceedings. Formal conflict resolution, after a dispute or rule-breaking, does play a role, but RP is also proactive, explains Anne Gregory, a Rutgers professor and one of the nation’s leading RP experts.

One core proactive practice is ​“check and connect.” This might be as simple as having teachers and staff say hi to each student as they enter the school, or asking a student between classes how their day is going. When there’s an issue, students can then sit down with a trusted adult to build ​“their own insight into themselves and what’s driving their behavior,” Gregory says.

Gregory emphasizes that relationship building is a two-way street. These micro-interactions of ​“check and connect” also change how teachers see students. They undermine ​“overgeneralization [and] negative stereotyping” and create space for understanding, Gregory says. When a student has ​“attendance problems,” for example, the right mindset involves ​“thinking about and understanding what’s going on for the family of that student that morning in getting out the door” — which is a ​“very different approach,” Gregory adds, from ​“sending a police officer to your house the fourth time you’re truant.”

What kind of scenes, situations etc do you believe you enjoy writing the most? (If you filled this out last year, has this changed in any way?) um. Well. I like intimate stuff if you're picking up what I'm putting down. But then I run away about 2 replies in so I write fanfic usually. I like kissing too. Um. I love high emotional scenes too. If I could describe my writing style, it's "My Dinner With Andre - the novel" (I've never seen the film but I get the gist)

Do you have any scenario in mind for your muse(s) that gets you thinking “man I hope I get to write this one day”? I want Ryoma to be happy. Like genuinely I want him to be in a place where he can forgive himself, maybe even forgive the nohrians. I want him to move on and have a peaceful life as a teacher. But I also want him to fall in love which is. So silly. But. My brain is a shipper lol. As for Cynthia? Hm. I have thoughts for her but that's a whole arc

Favorite TOA-related memories? I dunno! I've had a lotta fun here but I can't think of any specific stuff offhand? Maybe how welcoming everyone was when I joined that was nice 🥺

Present or past tense? Present! I live in the moment! I tend to tense match but present. I like third person and second person POV too but I can't RP in second person BC it feels weird? I mostly write in second person if I'm writing a vent fic. Why? I dunno

Normal size text, small text, no preference? I like tiny text but again I size match. I snoop to see what my partner does and copy them :D

TF2 HEADCANONS PART TWO ELECTRIC BOOGALOO

I told myself I’d get these up one of these days👍 I finished this list at 4 am last night so none of this makes any sense and every word is more chaotic than the ones before it and no I’m not sorry y’all sighed up for this bs

Scout

-Can understand a good chunk of French but can’t speak more than a few simple words if that, has no clue how he understands it (Spy spoke a good amount of French around him as a baby or something idk)

-Can be just has hard to find as Spy-once you loose sight of him he’s impossible to find if he’s actually trying to stay hidden-Like father like son

-Can and will steal your food-this includes Heavy and Medic-He has no fear whatsoever and has been sent to respawn god knows how many fucking times because of this-And yet he still does it

-Loves scifi movies and comics and if you watch a movie with him half of it is him pointing out random trivia facts because he’s incapable of shutting the fuck up (this is also what happens when you watch a movie with me irl. My grandparents are sick and tired of it. Yes this is even more self projection what of it?)

-has mastered the younger sibling talent of fucking climbing people if it means getting something that’s held over his head. He also bites

Soldier

-it’s impossible to tell if he’s insulting you or complimenting you 90% of the time

-Has stabbed Scout’s hand to the table to prevent him from stealing food before and no one stopped him

-The team has movie nights once a week and Soldier always puts on the same inaccurate WW2 documentary he made himself when it’s his turn to pick-he used to put on 10 hours of the American National Anthem but someone (read: The rest of the team working together) lost (read: Violently destroyed) the tape after the third time

-I said he was from Missouri once in a rp cuz my rp friend and I are both from different parts of Missouri so that’s my hc now

Pyro

-I always hc him as Irish for some reason idk why

-Can casually pick up every merc except for Heavy-He struggles a bit with Medic because that man is pure muscle but they can indeed pick him up

-May or may not be a cannibal-it’s a little uncertain but either way they’re banned from the kitchen and cooking duty

-I’m a sucker for the hc that he does not like water whatsoever-Getting this man a bath is like trying to bathe a cat except somehow even more deadly

-This may be the impulsive sleep deprivation but my brain randomly went “What If he can see general ghosts because of his possessed eye socket, not just Eyelander or the scream fortress ghosts” so sometimes people walk in on him casually having a conversation with the air. Considering he’s made out with his own organs in his head, this is one of the less weird things they’ve walked in on him doing

-Surprisingly he’s the best with kids out of all 9 mercs, Heavy is a good runner up though and Spy’s not far behind but will never admit it

Heavy

-Accent gets thicker when he’s talking to people he cares about

-Was the one who suggested the movie nights in the first place

-Actually cleans up in the base unlike literally everyone else

Engie

-People don’t realize how unhinged this man is ok??? Anyways he’s a caffeine addict and has developed the habit of pulling way too many all nighters if it means getting work done (like me. It’s 4 am as I work on this list. Help)

-What’s a southern farm boy without a few dozen concerning stories about pushing cousins out of second story barn windows or near drowning fishing story? My cousins lived on a farm when we were kids and they scared the shit out of me I swear there was a new broken bone every summer

-probably once had a sleep deprived mental breakdown on his workshop floor because the sweet tea one of the mercs made him wasn’t sweet enough idk man I’m sleep deprived rn and could really use a southern style sweet tea

Medic

-Mann vs Machine hc that his hometown would rather deal with the robots than having Medic anywhere near them ever again. They want him GONE

-Sleeps like a fucking corpse-You can’t even tell he’s breathing unless you look closely. He even crosses his arms like a corpse

-Will take you graverobbing for a romantic date-gotta get experiment canvases somehow he’s running out of room on the other mercs without them just dropping dead from it all

Sniper

-The opposite of a morning person, but his internal clock won’t let him sleep in ever. The suns up? He’s up! Someone help him

-Has befriended a wild owl and feeds it at night-The offense trio very violently helped him name it (They fist fought eachother over who’s name was better while Sniper spaced out thinking about random gator facts)

Spy

-An adrenaline junkie but will never ever admit it

-Spy can mimic voices to a near perfect even without his disguise kit-he however rarely uses this and instead simply mocks everyone instead because he finds it funny (“This is Scout! Rainbows make me cry!”)

-Wears a corset because I said so-It always matches perfectly with his outfit and underwear too-He feels SO bonita

-Scout is gay and so many levels deep in the closet it’s embarrassing-He’s also trans because I said so

-Soldier is trans, bi, and poly :) his list of wives consists of anyone and everyone /j

-Spy is bi and a cis man who wears dresses regularly he’s gnc af and I love that for him he’s my wife now

Hello there! Today I’m looking for an 18+ rp, which would be OC x OC and MxM, with my character being a trans man that still has some female anatomy and is closeted. This rp would involve some 🍪 since both the characters involved in it would be in high school. What year of high school they are can be discussed depending on what direction we want to take this rp in. I want this plot to have a balance of angst and fluff. The situation the characters find themselves in is tough and their relationship will be tested, but ultimately they’ll always have each other to come home to and cuddle with. With all that out of the way, here’s the plot I wanted to do!

Your Character was from a rough background, his family doesn’t have a lot of money, he lives in a rundown apartment on the bad side of town with his parents, and no one expects much more from him than to join a gang and get himself thrown in prison soon. Over the summer, he’d found himself in a secret relationship with Sasha, the son of one of the wealthiest families in their city. One day near the beginning of the school year Your Character and Sasha have sex, and a few weeks later Sasha admits to them that he’s pregnant. His parents find out and offer Sasha two choices, get rid of the baby or be kicked out and cut off from the family. Not wanting to get rid of it, Sasha goes to Your Character. How do two high schoolers with little to no help find a way to support themselves and make a new life for them? As long as they have each other they can figure something out, right?

As you can see, I basically want to do a high school pregnancy plot, where neither character has a good support structure so they’re on their own trying to figure out how to get through this. I tried to leave your character pretty vague so you could figure out what you wanted them to act like and what their backstory would be! If you didn’t like anything I put in the plot you can feel free to change it, the main aspect is just that they have a rough home life and are seen as kind of an outcast by the school. To put it plainly, Christine was absolutely miserable. Once she reached the third trimester there wasn’t a single night where she wasn’t woken up by the baby kicking her, either in her abdomen or in her bladder. She felt pretty terrible during her pregnancy with Aria, but this time wad somehow worse given the size of the baby. The midwife said that the baby was a little larger, then Christine feared it could be twins but was reassured by the fact that they didn’t run in her or Erik’s family, as far as she knew, and they would’ve heard another heartbeat. No, not twins, just one baby that apparently had Erik’s height, and she made sure that her husband felt guilty for that. One of the things she was extremely worried about was that she would a caesarian, it was entirely possible and she was mortified.

It was nearing the end of the summer which was just the cherry on top of the awful cake, the heat was unbearable and Christine couldn’t wait for it all to be over, to finally have her child in her arms. And Aria had grown a lot as well, she was nearing two years old now and was as energetic as ever, Erik had taken over in watching her since she was now on bed rest due to the toll the baby was taking on her.

“You said that last week, and look where I am now.” She wanted to cry as she rubbed her stomach, it seemed like it was never going to end.

kloktober day 20: original character or self-insert

time for the fanfic debut of my oc, xz corrosion! she's an industrial musician/dj/amateur hacker who makes bootleg dethklok remixes sometimes and is, self-indulgently, online pals with toki. she's basically a recycled rp character because i didn't want to leave her in the dump once i left the second life game i made her for so i ported her over to metalocalypse. here's her wiki page. she's very green.

XZ Corrosion, Pittsburgh's fifth-finest industrial act (as voted by her friends), currently sat on the floor in Toki Wartooth's bedroom, her keytar on her lap. Next to her sat Toki Wartooth himself, peering at the laptop on the floor between them.

Meeting an online friend in meatspace was always intimidating, but the intimidation factor really kicked up when the online friend happened to be one of the most famous people in the world with the craziest security detail XZ had ever seen. She'd originally intended to do this collab over the computer, but Toki had insisted she come over, and who was going to reject an invitation to check out Dethklok's house?

Now that they'd gotten the awkward part out of the way, though, they were getting along pretty damn well.

"That's all I gots to do?" Toki asked.

"Yeah dude, just fuck around on guitar a little, maybe record some words if you wanna, and I'll do the rest." XZ grinned over at him. "We got this."

"Shouldn'ts we records this in the studio?"

"If you wanna be Mr. Fancy, dude, but I don't do studios. All we need is you, me, Melvin, and this computer." She patted the laptop for emphasis. "This'll be fine! Song of the summer, baby!"

"Songs of the summers." Toki nodded. Who cared if it was October?

A little bit of discussion and a lot of messing around later, they had the bones of something they could really work on.

"So, I got a show at Cattivo next month," XZ said as she watched Toki mess around with his guitar, his tongue sticking out in concentration. "We could smuggle you in, you do your thing, then you can leave before anybody thinks about it. Or you could stick around, I'll show you some shit."

"I'll thinks about it," Toki said. "But I gots to wears that outfits I showed you. Pickle helpsed me puts it together."

"I'd be pissed if you didn't wear it, dude."

They both laughed as they constructed the song of the summer.
