When it comes to creating an inviting and functional outdoor space, pergolas and patios are two popular choices that can transform your backyard into a haven of relaxation and entertainment. These structures offer both aesthetic and practical benefits, allowing you to enjoy the beauty of nature while providing shelter and comfort. In this article, we will explore the world of pergolas and patios, their advantages, and how they can add value to your home.
Pergolas: An Elegance of Design
Pergolas are outdoor structures consisting of vertical pillars supporting an open lattice roof. They are known for their elegant and timeless design, making them a favored choice for homeowners looking to add charm and character to their outdoor spaces. Here are some key advantages of pergolas:
Aesthetic Appeal: Pergolas serve as architectural focal points in any outdoor area. They create an enchanting ambiance and can be customized to complement your home's style and landscaping.
Shade and Shelter: While pergolas have an open roof design, they still offer shade from the sun and some protection from light rain. You can enhance their functionality by adding climbing plants or retractable canopies for additional shade. patios sydney

Patios: The Foundation of Outdoor Living
Patios, on the other hand, are ground-level paved areas typically located adjacent to a home. They are perfect for those seeking a solid foundation for outdoor living and entertainment. Here are the advantages of having a patio:
Durability: Patios are built to withstand the elements and heavy foot traffic. They require minimal maintenance and can last for years with proper care.
Design Flexibility: You have a wide range of design options when it comes to patios, including materials like concrete, pavers, stone, or even wood. This flexibility allows you to create a custom look that complements your home's architecture.

One of the best ways to create a stunning outdoor space is by combining a pergola and patio. This combination marries the elegance of a pergola with the functionality of a patio. Here's how you can make the most of this pairing:
Create Zones: Designate different zones within your outdoor space. Use the patio for dining and seating, and place the pergola nearby for a cozy lounge area.
Climbing Plants: Train climbing plants like vines or roses to grow on the pergola's lattice roof, providing natural shade and a touch of greenery.

In this blog post, we will explore how hotel outside design can enhance outdoor amenities like patios and lounging areas, providing guests with a truly memorable stay.
1. Thoughtful Layout and Space Planning:
One of the fundamental aspects of hotel outside design is the thoughtful layout and space planning of outdoor amenities. Designers consider factors such as the size and arrangement of seating, the flow of foot traffic, and the positioning of amenities like umbrellas, tables, and loungers to ensure that the space is comfortable, functional, and visually appealing.
2. Optimal Seating Arrangements:
The choice and arrangement of seating play a crucial role in enhancing outdoor amenities. Comfortable and well-designed seating encourages guests to relax and unwind. Hotel outside design often incorporates a variety of seating options, such as cozy sofas, lounge chairs, hammocks, and even swings, to cater to different preferences.
3. Integrated Shade Structures:
To protect guests from the sun and provide respite from the heat, hotel outside design frequently incorporates shade structures. These may include pergolas, awnings, umbrellas, and retractable canopies. These structures not only offer functional benefits but also add an architectural element to the space.

Effective lighting design is essential for outdoor amenities that can be enjoyed day and night. Hotel outside design incorporates a combination of ambient, task, and accent lighting to create a warm and inviting atmosphere after sunset. String lights, lanterns, and LED fixtures are often used to set the mood.

The Ultimate Guide to Beach Chairs: Unveiling Comfort and Style
Tumblr media
Introduction
As the sun-drenched days of summer beckon, the allure of sandy shores and sparkling waves becomes irresistible. For beachgoers, a quintessential companion in this idyllic setting is the beach chair. This humble yet indispensable piece of outdoor furniture transforms a simple beach outing into a comfortable and enjoyable experience. Whether you're lounging by the ocean, reading your favorite book, or soaking in the beauty of a sunset, a well-chosen beach chair is your ticket to relaxation. In this comprehensive guide, we'll explore the world of beach chairs, discussing their types, features, and the art of selecting the perfect one.
The Evolution of Beach Chairs
Beach chairs have come a long way since their humble beginnings. Historically, rudimentary wooden and canvas folding chairs were the norm. However, advancements in design and materials have led to a diverse array of beach chair options. Modern beach chairs are crafted with lightweight yet sturdy materials, allowing for easy transport without compromising durability. This evolution has given rise to a range of styles, each catering to different preferences and needs.
Types of Beach Chairs
Folding Beach Chairs: The classic folding chair remains a popular choice due to its portability and ease of use. These chairs often feature adjustable backrests, cup holders, and storage pouches, ensuring comfort and convenience.
Loungers: Ideal for those seeking maximum relaxation, loungers offer reclining positions and built-in support for your feet. Some even come with detachable umbrellas or canopies for added sun protection.
Backpack Beach Chairs: Combining functionality with style, backpack beach chairs allow you to carry your seat on your back. These chairs are perfect for those who value hands-free convenience.
Low-Profile Beach Chairs: If you prefer a closer connection to the sand, low-profile chairs are designed to keep you at ground level. They're lightweight and often favored by sunbathers and picnickers.
Key Features to Consider
When selecting the ideal beach chair, several features warrant consideration:
Materials: Look for chairs made from rust-resistant materials such as aluminum, as they are built to withstand beach conditions.
Comfort: Adjustable reclining positions, cushioned seats, and ergonomic designs contribute to overall comfort during extended relaxation sessions.
Portability: Opt for chairs that are easy to fold and transport, ideally featuring carrying handles or backpack-style straps.
Accessories: Many beach chairs are equipped with added conveniences like cup holders, storage pockets, and detachable umbrellas or canopies.
Weight Capacity: Ensure that the chair you choose can support your weight comfortably. Most chairs have weight capacity ratings clearly indicated.
Durability: Check reviews and product descriptions to gauge the longevity of the chair. Durability is crucial, especially if you plan on using the chair frequently.
Exploring Beach Chair Styles: A Personal Touch
The style of your beach chair can be an extension of your personality and preferences. Whether you opt for vibrant tropical patterns, sleek monochromatic designs, or rustic wooden finishes, your choice can enhance your beach experience. Many manufacturers offer customization options, allowing you to select colors and patterns that resonate with you.

A Guide to Choose The Perfect Design For Your Retractable Pergola In Dubai
Every homeowner in Dubai with an open space looks forward to improving the curb appeal of their home. Now, the most recent type of sliding roof system—automatic retractable pergola—is here to help. It not only improves the appearance of your home, but it also enhances its resale value. Many homeowners prefer it because of its exceptional design and functionality.
However, you must install the right automatic retractable pergola for your home. To ensure this, you should follow a few tips when selecting one for your home. Here are the best options available:
Tumblr media
Create a budget estimate
Before purchasing any new item for your home, you should create an estimated budget. This will assist you in selecting the best pergola with a retractable roof for your home. After determining your budget, make a list of your preferred material and size, and then search for the best options based on your budget and preferences.
Complement the decor
While noting the preferred material and size, make sure to take a quick look around your home’s interiors and choose a shade that complements the décor. However, neutral shades are recommended as they look neater and block the sun’s harsh UV rays.
Capacity to Add luxury touches
Many homeowners in Dubai are also selecting pergolas to add lavish touches, bringing them fully into the twenty-first century. Lighting (fairy lights are popular), fans (which keep the space cool in the summer), and retractable canopies or motor-driven slats are some of the premium additions (for sunlight penetration) to your automatic retractable pergolas.
Where Can Automatic Retractable Pergolas be Installed?
Modern automatic retractable pergolas can be placed almost anywhere you want. Many people enjoy having a structure like a pergola over a deck or patio as it can transform the outdoor space into an extension of the home’s interior. To create a true living area, chairs, tables, a grill, and other furnishings can be added.
Automatic Retractable Pergolas are also best for casting shade over a pool, jacuzzi, or spa. You can add privacy screens and patio covers to get more privacy, making this a low-maintenance option with added beauty.
Finally, automatic retractable pergolas are always popular in gardens or walkways that need to be highlighted. Climbing vines or colorful plants can be added for greater emphasis if you have wonderful architectural elements.
How Do You Select The Best Size For Your Automatic Retractable Pergola?
Consider the size and dimensions of your home and any relevant structures when deciding on the size of your automatic retractable pergola. A small retractable pergola attached to the side of a large building (or vice versa) may appear out of place.
Make sure you carefully measure the area to ensure it has enough space for your needs and takes exact size measurements – width, length, height, and area size – for your automatic retractable pergola order. To provide adequate headroom, many professional retractable pergola designers in Dubai recommend a minimum retractable pergola height of 230cm / 7’6″.
What About The Finishing Touches?
Your automatic retractable pergola is as unique as you are. There are countless ways to add the finishing touches to your automatic retractable pergola to complement the style of your home and reflect your personal tastes, whether you are looking for an outdoor space for alfresco dining or garden soirees at home.
Look through an extensive selection of outdoor furniture, which includes lounge and sofa collections, bar and dining additions, sun loungers, daybeds, and more, to help you create the ideal environment for socializing and relaxing. Don’t forget to add color and texture with cushions and soft furnishings, as well as some stylish lighting options for long summer evenings, and a heater for cooler days and nights.
Automatic Retractable Pergolas – A Wonderful Addition!
Whether you want more privacy when swimming, a new way to protect your patio furniture, or to create an exquisite outdoor space to entertain guests, automatic retractable pergolas can make your visions a reality. Contact 800 PERGOLA today to learn more about the numerous advantages our automatic retractable pergolas provide. Installation of automatic retractable pergolas in your space is the best addition from professional retractable pergola manufacturers in Dubai, for expertise to trustworthiness, and for customizable features to materials used.

Jaytim at the beach maybe? :3c
Ooh practice for jaytim week, love it. This turned out...a bit hornier than I'd planned but WHATEVER here you go!
"Wow, the view is incredible today." Tim glanced up from his book briefly, trying not to radiate annoyance at the women setting up so close to his canopy on a private beach at an all-inclusive resort. If it was close enough that he had to hear them gossiping- it was too close.
He and Jason had wrapped up their undercover case two days early- he’d earned the right to be lounging on a stupidly plush daybed under a canopy without interruption from anyone but room service and his boyfriend. Not that his boyfriend had been interrupting much. He'd dragged them out early that morning to surf- apparently yet another hidden talent the man possessed- and had been out in the water the entire time. Tim had bowed out after their second break to reapply sunscreen- because he was not going to deal with a sunburn in the Red Robin suit, thank you- and had spent the rest of the morning picking at an exorbitantly expensive picnic spread and getting slightly tipsy on diluted bellinis. Bruce had already paid for the rest of the week, he might as well not let the money go to waste.
So four women plopping down beach loungers and cackling over mimosas loud enough to distract him from his best attempt at relaxation in years? Yeah, he was a little bit irked. He tried to find his place on the page again, popping a bite of melon into his mouth.
"That is some prime cut beefcake, right there." That caught his attention enough to get him glancing up to see what the big deal was- and promptly trying not to choke as he caught sight of Jason propping up his board further down the shore.
Well. It's not like they were wrong. Not when he was gently squeezing the saltwater from his curls, his arms flexing with the movement and glistening in the sun. He should probably put on more sunscreen. Tim would be more than happy to help.
“Think he’s an instructor?”
"I hope so. I could use some private lessons."
“I’d certainly let him tell me what to do.”
"Tell me what to do? I'd let him drown me." He laughed, unable to stop himself and earned a pointed look from the group openly ogling his boyfriend. It took him a moment to get a grasp on whatever threads of his composure remained after that.
"There a problem, sweetheart?" The blonde with a scathing southern accent asked with a raised brow.
"Nope- no problem. Enjoy the, uh…beefcake." She shot a baffled look back at him when he gave a thumbs up and returned to his book. Frankly, they could've sat further away from the canopy- though now he suspected they'd picked their spot for the view rather than privacy- if they didn't want him to hear them.
And hear them he did. He gave up on his book, opting instead to embrace eavesdropping and eating fruit. The conversation was a strange mix of a high school clique and a bachelorette party, evaluating every man that got within range of their viewing party and rating them against one another. It was gross, but Jason was winning. Some dumb part of him was proud of that. A larger part of him agreed wholeheartedly.
Jason looked good, his skin a sun-kissed hue that made the light smattering of freckles over his nose stand out. The salt water brought volume to those curls as they dried. Tim's fingers itched to run through them as he watched them lift in a light breeze. He moved with easy grace over the sand, muscles shifting and pulling in a tantalizing suggestion of power. He could absolutely understand the desire to lick the droplets of seawater off his pecs- even if he didn’t necessarily get the bonding experience of talking about doing such a thing to a stranger with his friends- and filed the more interesting comments away for later to take as suggestions.
The ladies fell quiet as Jason jogged up to the canopy, casting them a brief glance on his way before landing heavily on the daybed. Tim yelped as he was lifted off the cushion from the force of it, laughing as a strong arm wound around his waist and tugged him close. It wasn't exactly the greeting the petty, competitive part of him had been hoping for, but the brief glance at the surprised expressions was still satisfying.
"Babe- gross, you're wet!" Tim smacked at the damp arm trapping him against Jason’s still mostly wet chest- struggling both insincerely and futilely as a second arm snakes around his chest and hauls him closer. “Jay-”
“Shh Prettybird, I missed you.” Tim snorted, attempting to turn enough in his place to give Jason an unimpressed look.
“It's been a couple hours-"”
“-far too long for our honeymoon, in my opinion.” He did not need to have this conversation while strong-armed into being the little spoon. Especially since it currently gave him a view of the surreptitious glances being cast their way from a suddenly quiet group of women. Tim rolled his eyes and finally managed to wriggle to the point where he was laying on his back. Jason had been milking the cover- and the way the word alone made Tim flustered- for all it was worth. Tim had spent the week discovering he'd trip over himself to give Jason whatever he wanted when the words 'honeymoon' or 'husband' passed his lips- something Jason had caught onto quickly and used ruthlessly to his advantage.
“You’re the one who dragged us from bed at the ass-crack of dawn to surf instead of making use of that honeymoon suite.” Jason only hummed, leaning over him and plucking a grape from the tray. Tim rolled his eyes again at the unsurprising press of said grape against his lips, acquiescing with a sigh.
“You know- this tray looks like it was designed to be eaten after being in the ocean-” He murmured, ignoring Tim’s grumping as he picked up a sliced mango and repeated the process, this time letting his thumb linger against his bottom lip, “-tastes better with a little extra salt.” Tim flushed under the implication, tongue darting out to swipe at the pad of his thumb. His mind was suddenly very, very far away from the group sitting too close to their place or whatever conversation might be occurring as Jason repeated the process with each of his fingers on his free hand. Tim gave in to every unspoken request, watching Jason's eyes darken with rapt attention.
"You should eat something, too." He tried to regain some composure, grasping blindly at the tray, "you were out there twice as long as me-" Jason grabbed his wrist and dragged his hand into his field of vision, maintaining eye contact as he swiped the cut pineapple from his fingertips with a curl of his tongue. Tim's attempt at calm died a strangled noise in the back of his throat.
"I've got something in mind-" and he was hauling him up into his arms, abandoning the picnic and the scene behind them in favor of carrying him to their suite's beachfront door. Tim could hear the burst of chatter as they were deemed a safe subject of conversation- but couldn't bring himself to care as Jason pulled him into a kiss. He'd have to tell him about his popularity, Tim noted idly as he licked the tang of pineapple juice from the seam of his lips. Jason'd get a kick out of it- especially after he put all those creative ideas to good use.

Warm.
Hoseok is so warm right now, inside and out. He stretches his long body out on the length of his beach lounger, enjoying the feeling of the sun beating down on his skin. His buzz is mellow and pleasant. He lets his eyes drift shut, lulled into a lazy calm by the sounds he can hear all around him.
The steady lap of the waves against the shore. Kids laughing as they run around on the sand. Off in the distance, a bluetooth speaker thumps out a song that’s too far away for him to recognize. And after a few minutes, another sound.
Your bright laughter, carried to him on the breeze.
God, he loves that sound.
“You are such a lightweight,” you tease. Hoseok can hear the smile in your voice. “Two beers and you pass out on me.”
He cracks one eye open to find you standing beside his lounger. The early evening sunlight streams through the strands of your dark hair and warms your bronzed skin, bathing you in a kind of golden halo. He gazes up at you, languid and content.
“I’m not passed out,” he argues with a slow grin. “I’m relaxing. Come relax with me.”
Hoseok doesn’t give you a chance to accept his offer, leaning up to grab your hand and pull you down into the narrow space beside him. You laugh when he wraps his arms and legs around you like a starfish, pulling your back flush against his chest.
“I’m just enjoying the perfect day,” he murmurs, nosing at the back of your ear, “With my perfect girl.”
“Flatterer.”
Hoseok can’t see you rolling your eyes, but he knows you’re doing it anyway. Just like he can’t see the way you flush and he knows you’re doing that, too.
“We should eat,” you say after a while, shivering when he strokes the pads of his fingers up the soft skin of one bare leg. “Grab something before we have to take the bikes back.”
Hoseok hums under his breath as he slides his palm up the curve of your thigh, boldly searching for trouble under the hem of your sundress. You bat his hand away and he laughs, hugging you tighter.
“Alright,” he agrees in a whisper, ghosting his lips down the nape of your neck. You jolt in his arms when he sinks his teeth into the curve of your shoulder, nipping playfully. “Just a quick bite.”
Tumblr media
There’s not much difference between a sundress and a négligée is there?
Certainly not from where Hoseok is sitting, anyway.
He studies you as he rides close behind, watching the way your hair whips in the breeze as you pedal. One delicate sundress strap slips down your sun-warmed shoulder, exposing just a bit more of your back. Then the wind grabs a hold of your sheer skirt, lifting it just long enough for Hoseok to get a glimpse of the pretty white panties underneath.
God, he loves those panties.
Could stare at them all day, really.
But instead he forces himself to pedal faster and take the lead, grinning when you take note of his advance and glare. It’s for the best because while you think this is just some meandering evening ride, he’s the only one who knows where you’re really headed. For the best because if he falls off his bike and breaks his face because he’s too busy staring at your ass, the entire night will be ruined before it has the chance to start.
It’s quiet on this street just a few blocks from the shore.
Dolmeori Beach is rockier, more wooded than the beaches preferred by most tourists and that’s always suited Hoseok just fine. When he was a kid, he’d steal away when the weather was warm and hop the train here from Gwangju any chance he got.
It’s always felt like his place, his personal piece of sea and sand.
Pine trees loom high over the pavement, canopies so dense they block out much of the waning sunlight streaming down from above. The shade beneath the leaves makes the heat bearable, but it also makes it hard to judge the time. Hoseok steals a quick look at his watch.
Right on schedule. He hopes Yoongi followed his instructions to the letter.
“Hurry up, slowpoke,” he teases over his shoulder, and he chuckles at the sound of frustration you make as you pedal faster to catch up. It takes a few seconds for you to coast into position at his side.
“You still haven’t told me where we’re going,” you fuss, “Wanna clue me in?”
Hoseok turns his head to smile at you, sly like a fox.
“You’ll find out when we get there.”
Tumblr media
The realtor had said the place would need a little love.
Turns out, it needs a lot more than a little. But Hoseok was able to see right past the weathered wooden porch and salt air-worn paint right away. When he found this place online, he knew it was the one.
He slows his bike to a stop as the two of you make your approach, taking note of the warm light that glows just behind the frosted glass pane in the front door. Looks like Yoongi came through.
“What is this place?” you ask, skidding to a stop beside him. You stand over your bike on tiptoes as you survey the house, brow knit in confusion.
“It’s a surprise,” Hoseok grins, hopping off his bike. He shoves the kickstand into place and offers you his hand, which you accept with a suspicious smile. “Wanna go in?”
“Yeah sure,” you shrug. “We’ve probably already stolen these bikes. What’s a little breaking and entering on top of that?”
Hoseok laughs, leading the way to the front door.
He cringes when the porch floorboards creak loudly beneath his feet, making a mental note to put that project next on his to-do list. You stand with arms crossed, watching silently as he crouches down to lift the mat at the front door, fingers feeling beneath for the concealed key.
You stop him with fingers wrapped around his forearm when he gets to his feet.
“Wait,” you whisper frantically. “We can’t just walk into someone’s house, Hoseok.”
He chuckles before leaning down to kiss the adorable confusion right off your face. Then he slides his key into the lock and pushes the door wide open.
“Not someone’s house,” he corrects, watching you peer skeptically inside.
You step slowly through the threshold and scan the candle-lit front room before turning to him with wide eyes.
“Our house.”
Tumblr media
“You bought a beach house.”
It’s the third time you’ve said it by now, and not once has the hushed observation been directed at Hoseok. You said it when you brushed your fingertips over the freshly-dried spackle on the living room wall, said it again as you passed your hand over the base coat of stain on the mantle over the fireplace.
You say it again as you turn to him, jaw slack with disbelief.
“You bought a beach house.”
“Yeah,” Hoseok admits sheepishly, uncertain of your reaction. He tries to see the room the way you must see it now, candles and tools scattered across the tables, floors covered in drop cloths, cans of paint and plaster stacked up in the corners.
Yoongi had done a decent job of clearing up most of the clutter before he left, but judging by the astonishment on your face, he’s probably been romanticizing the mess in here.
He’d really hoped to have a lot more done the first time he brought you here, but he’s learned the hard way that some home renovation projects don’t go as smoothly in real life as they do on YouTube. The process has been a bit of trial and error, with a lot more error than he’d originally counted on.
“I know it doesn’t look like a whole lot right now,” he says, rubbing awkwardly at the back of his neck, “But it’s going to look great when I’m done. Yoongi helped me sand all week.”
You shake your head like you’re coming out of a daze.
“Oh my god Hoseok, no -- ” you vow with a shaky laugh, “ -- no, this is incredible. This is amazing. I’m in shock.”
“Yeah?” Hoseok grins, relief melting over him. “I wanted it to be a surprise. I wanted -- ”
“ -- Wait,” you interrupt, one brow quirked high as you step closer. “You said… you said something important. You said this was our house.”
“Did I?”
You narrow your dark eyes at him and he chuckles uncomfortably, nerves kicking in for the first time tonight. The feeling -- and the occasion both call for more booze. Which he’s prepared for.
“Are you going to give me a tour?” you ask.
“Later,” he says. “After.”
“After what, Hoseok? You’re killing me slowly with all this suspense.”
“Hang out here for a second,” he instructs, ducking into the small kitchen. “I’ll be right back.”
It takes him no time at all to find the bottle of Moet he’s stashed in the fridge and the clean champagne flutes tucked away into the corner of his dutifully-dusted kitchen cabinet. He double-checks the contents of the box on the counter, making sure everything is in place.
Then he takes a deep breath.
Your brows lift in surprise when he walks back into the room with that box in his hands. You watch him set it down on the floor, saying nothing when he turns back to retrieve the champagne and glasses.
When he finally returns, you’re on your knees -- examining the package. Lips pursed thoughtfully as you press your fingers to the gold flecks on the fabric lid.
“Hoseok,” you whisper, flicking your gaze up to find his. “I have so many questions right now.”
You look so damned beautiful in this candlelight -- like you brought your golden glow from the beach indoors. Like you absorbed the sun’s rays and you’re emitting them now like some kind of superpower.
“Have a drink with me,” he murmurs, “And I’ll answer them.”
Something in the room shifts then; the temperature changes. The silly fun of the afternoon evaporates, leaving behind something heavy and heady. Hoseok knows you feel it too, when your half-smile slowly drops and you pull your lower lip between your teeth.
“Okay,” you agree softly, “Let’s have a drink.”
You watch him with those focused dark eyes as he pops the champagne. The drink bubbles over the lip of both flutes as he pours, on account of his haste and shaky hands. Then you take one of the glasses in hand and offer him the other, which he quickly accepts.
“To this surprise housewarming,” you declare, raising your flute for a toast.
Hoseok clinks his glass against yours, taking note of the way you watch him carefully over the lip of your glass as you’re tilting back the flute to take a sip. He decides he can’t keep you -- or himself -- in suspense any longer.
“You know how special you are to me, right?”
You make a face.
“Did you bring me to your new house to break up with me?”
Hoseok’s startled laugh turns into a cough and tears prick his eyes as champagne bubbles blaze a path up his sinuses.
“Yes,” he says dryly, once he’s managed to collect himself. “I figured dumping you by candlelight sounded like the most romantic option.”
You tip your head back when you laugh, light playing off the curve of your neck, your collarbones, the tiny gold pendant that sits in the pretty dip at the base of your throat.
God, he loves your skin.
Hoseok looks at you long and hard before lifting his flute to take a long drink.
“This is for you,” he says quietly, acknowledging the box out loud for the first time.
“What’s in it?”
“A human head,” Hoseok snorts, flinching when you reach over to pinch his leg. “Don’t be a pain. Just open it.”
Your eyes light with excitement as you smooth your hands over the lid and Hoseok can’t help but smile. But your excitement turns into confusion the moment you open the box and find the neat row of plain white envelopes inside.
“What is this?”
“Quit asking me questions,” Hoseok deadpans, pouring himself another drink. He tops off your glass, too. “And start at the front.”
You shake your head with a wry smile as you work the first envelope open, slipping your fingers in between the paper folds to fish out the contents inside. Hoseok sips his champagne as you produce the polaroid photo, head cocked to the side as you study it.
It was cold that day, he remembers that. You’d been bundled up in a pretty scarf and matching belted coat. In the photo, the mid-morning sun flares behind you, illuminating your profile as you squint up at a display of laminated menus.
“This is me,” you murmur, mouth quirking into a disbelieving smile, “At the coffee truck outside of work.”
“Yup.”
“We’d just started dating.”
“Yup.”
“How did you take this without me noticing?”
“Easy,” Hoseok laughs. “You stared at that menu for five minutes straight. I’ve never seen someone take coffee selection so seriously. Thought you were gonna order the most complicated drink in history.”
You roll your eyes but you laugh. So does he.
“Turn it over.”
You flip the polaroid over in your hands, eyes moving over the neat block handwriting on the back.
coolest girl i ever met
“This is the day I knew I liked you,” Hoseok murmurs, “Like, really liked you.”
Your eyes are a bit glassy when you look up at him now, the corner of your mouth tugging into a soft smile.
“You were that sure that fast, huh?” “Yeah,” he admits, scratching self-consciously at the back of his neck. “Yeah, I was.”
You move onto the next envelope, this time prepared when you pull out yet another polaroid picture. This one is harder to place, taken in the dark, mostly black but for a few splashes of vivid light.
“I don’t know this one,” you frown, ghosting your finger across one particularly colorful blur of red and gold. “I can’t make it out.”
You turn the polaroid over, looking once again for Hoseok’s neat block letters.
she’s into me
You laugh out loud.
“That was the lantern festival in Cheonggyecheon,” Hoseok explains. “I’d invited you, but you’d had plans, remember? And I was just going to get Yoongi to go with me but you called me last minute to say you’d decided to come.”
“I remember,” you say with a smile. “Yeri invited me to a movie, but I cancelled on her. I wanted to hang out with you instead.”
“Yeah, well that’s the night I knew you really liked me.”
“Cocky,” you smirk, reaching for another envelope. “But warranted.”
Your eyes light with recognition the moment you pull the next picture out. You’re crouched down at the edge of his mother’s koi pond, one finger making ripples on the surface of the water.
“First time we ever went to Gwangju together,” you muse quietly. “First time I met your parents.”
You flip the polaroid over.
pretty sure my mom loves her more than she loves me
“Okay, this might actually be true,” you tease, taking a sip of your champagne. “Your mom and dad love me.”
“Yeah, well that was the day I decided I loved you, too,” Hoseok chuckles. “The point where I kind of knew there was no turning back.”
You look up from the photograph then, eyes glassy with emotion when they find his. Candlelight flickering across your face as you look at him fondly.
“You still feel that way?”
“Hell yeah, I do,” he laughs, scrubbing a hand down his face. “Keep going.”
The next polaroid is a selfie of Hoseok in bed but it’s by no means sexual. There are dark circles under his eyes and his skin has a sallow tint. Next to his pillow, the bedside table is littered with cold medicine and empty cups.
“Is this when you had the flu?” you ask, flipping the polaroid over. The neat block lettering on the back confirms your theory.
she took care of me
“You were so pitiful,” you laugh, shaking your head at the memory. “Wrapped up in your blankets like a burrito. I swear, men have zero tolerance for discomfort.”
“I nearly died,” Hoseok protests dramatically. “But you dropped everything to come take care of me. That’s the day I knew you loved me, too.”
Your smile is brilliant now, open and sweet as you reach for the last remaining envelope. Hoseok takes another swig of champagne, slugging it down as you pull out the polaroid and study the image.
You are wearing your delicate sundress, leaned up against the wooden railing that separates the sand and rocks. Standing just next to your bike, nose in the air as you breathe in the salt carried on the wind.
“This is today,” you murmur, brows knitting together when you flip the picture over and find the back side blank. “And you haven’t written anything here.”
“Yeah, well,” Hoseok starts and stops, clearing his throat. “I haven’t had a chance to write it in yet.”
“Oh.”
“That’s the day I asked you to marry me.”
“Oh.”
You blink. Once, then again. Hoseok can hear the shaky breath you take in when your mouth parts in surprise. He sets his champagne flute down, sufficiently bolstered by the booze.
“So that’s what I’m doing right now. I’m asking you to marry me.”
You’re still mute with shock, eyes wide as they go from Hoseok to the picture and back to Hoseok again.
“But uh, the longer you don’t say anything, the less confident I feel about this entire plan,” he chuckles awkwardly.
You take him off balance when you throw yourself at him, wrapping your arms around his neck and your thighs around his waist. He keeps you both from toppling over with a palm flat to the floor, laughing as you pepper his face with kisses.
“So is that a yes?”
“Yes,” you sigh, pressing your lips to his temple, his neck, his jaw. “Yes. To you and to these amazing pictures and to this beach house. Yes to all of it.”
You pull away from him to grab the champagne, eyes flashing mischievously as you take a drink straight from the bottle. “Yes to champagne, too.”
Hoseok feigns shock. “Naughty.”
You kiss him deeply then, thoroughly, enough for him to feel the remnants of the carbonation on your tongue. You tease him with a barely there roll of your hips and his cock responds instantaneously, at the mercy of the warm friction he can feel straight through the thin material of his board shorts.
“You know what I’m thinking?” you murmur against his mouth.
“I think I’ve got a pretty good idea, yeah,” Hoseok chuckles, sucking a breath between his teeth when you bite the skin just below his ear.
“We have a lot to celebrate, right?” you reason, tone light. “But we came here for a housewarming.”
You lean back just far enough to pull your sundress over your head, tossing it carelessly aside, leaving you in nothing but those pretty white panties he loves so much.
“So we should warm it.”
Hoseok grins, pulling the champagne bottle out of your grip. He turns it up just like you did, finishing what’s left before setting it back down.
“I like the way you think.”
Tumblr media
The only bedroom in this house is buried beneath a two-inch thick layer of sawdust right now.
Not that making it to a bedroom seems high on your list of priorities.
The fact that you’re both sitting on top of a drop cloth on Hoseok’s living room floor isn’t stopping you from threading your fingers into his hair, slipping your tongue into his mouth, grinding against his lap.
“You’re full of surprises, aren’t you?” you laugh, pressing your bare breasts to his chest once he’s managed to untangle himself from your limbs long enough to shrug out of his shirt. Your pebbled nipples drag across the lithe planes of his chest and his cock jumps in his shorts.
“Clever.”
“That’s me,” Hoseok murmurs against your lips, deft fingers slipping beneath the damp cotton between your thighs. He slides the pad of one long finger across your wet slit and you gasp, rocking against it.
“Gotta get you out of these panties,” he laments, pulling one nipple into his mouth and working it with his teeth. You shudder in his hold. “Quick.”
“What are you in such a hurry for?” you tease, circling your hips to chase the perfect pressure of his fingertips. “We have all night.”
“We have about three more minutes if you keep grinding on me like this,” Hoseok laughs, shifting your bodies to lean you back onto the floor. “So give me a break because I want to enjoy this.”
You lie back for him dutifully, dark hair spilling onto the drop cloth around you, skin gleaming in the candlelight. Your gold pendant twinkles at the base of your neck.
God, he loves the way you look like this.
Flushed with excitement and anticipation. Like a feast laid out just for him. He rids himself of those pesky board shorts as fast as he can, leaning over you on hands and knees.
“You’re gonna marry me,” he muses, burying his face into the soft skin under your jaw. “You already said yes, can’t take it back now.”
Your laughter is echoing in his ears as he trails hot, open-mouthed kisses along the curve of your neck, across the bronzed planes of your shoulder. He can taste the day on your skin; the ocean salt and sunscreen mixed with that flavor that’s so uniquely you.
“I don’t want to take it back,” you sigh, whimpering when Hoseok kisses a path down the velvety skin between your breasts. He travels lower, kissing just below your bellybutton as he starts working your panties off with one hand. “I’m gonna keep you.”
Hoseok chuckles as he tosses your panties away, off to somewhere unimportant. What’s important is the way you take a deep breath and hold it when his mouth hovers coyly over your cunt.
“Look at me,” he directs, peering up at you from beneath heavy eyelids. You open your eyes to meet his gaze, candlelight dancing over your pretty face.
“I love you,” he breathes, lowering his mouth to make contact with your clit. The air leaves your lungs in that moment, a soft exhalation of air that makes the hairs on the nape of his neck stand on end.
“I love you too,” you sigh, hips jerking at the contact, fingers digging hard into his hair. “So much.”
He knows you by now, knows how you like to be touched. Your rhythmic panting goes a bit ragged, when he slides two fingers into your cunt, crooking up to stroke you the way you like while his mouth works your clit.
God, he loves this part.
The part where you lose any semblance of control. The desperate sounds you make when you start to come apart beneath his mouth and hands.
“Hoseok -- “ your voice is strangled when you call out, “ -- Hobi, I’m gonna come.”
Something about the way you say his name goes straight to his dick. He grits his teeth when your nails dig almost painfully into his scalp as you start to tremble, shuddering against his mouth.
“That’s it, baby,” he soothes, pinning your hips down with his strong hands, keeping you from pulling away from the pleasure that borders on pain. “That’s it. Sound so good when you come for me.”
Hoseok stays face first in your cunt, nose and tongue pressed against you, until he’s certain the last wave has come and gone. Between his own legs, his cock pulses painfully, leaking pre-come at the thought of finally being inside of you.
Your body twitches with the aftershocks of your release as he slowly kisses his way up your thighs, your mound, your stomach.
“How was that?” he asks with a teasing tilt to his mouth, stealing your ability to answer when he kisses you deeply, fitting his slim hips between your legs. He reaches down to grab his stiff cock, sliding it across your slick entrance. You clamp your thighs together to tighten the drag and he groans at the friction.
“Amazing,” you sigh, dragging your nails over his ass, up the lean muscles of his back. “Perfect. You should let me return the favor.”
His dick practically jumps at the suggestion, stomach contracting hard at the prospect of feeling your pretty mouth wrapped around it. But Hoseok is too worked up, too riled up by the alcohol and the excitement.
“Can’t tonight,” he pants, arousal shooting up his spine when you wrap one hand around his now-wet cock. You pump him lazily, trailing soft bites from his jaw to his shoulder. “Need to be inside of you.”
“Yeah, I’m ready for that too,” you admit, guiding the blunt head of his cock to your entrance.
He surges forward then, pushing past the tight grip of your fingers, groaning as he’s enveloped completely by your warm cunt. You whimper at the stretch, locking your legs around him, gasping when he bottoms out.
He pulls back to the tip only to drive in again, earning another strangled moan. You’re squirming beneath him, breathless and dewy, looking like some kind of wet dream.
“I’ll never get over how good it feels to be inside of you,” Hoseok admits, burying himself as deep as he humanly can into you.
You’re so wet he can feel you spilling out onto the base of his dick and for one fleeting moment he wishes you knew how good this feels for him. How wet and hot and tight you feel around him. How being inside of you like this makes his brain go haywire, reduces him to only instinct and need.
You lift your hips to meet each snap of his, the wet sound of your joining echoing off the walls in this mostly empty house.
He hears you moaning his name in between the other sounds you make, in between the panting and mewling that makes his balls tighten. You grip his forearms as he grinds against you, kissing you in between desperate breaths.
“I think I’m gonna come again,” you gasp against his mouth. “Don’t stop.”
“Oh, fuck,” Hoseok groans, pulling back to get to his knees. He hooks one of your legs over the crook of one strong forearm, using his one free hand to press a thumb to your clit. His rhythm falters as he watches himself slide in and out of you, hypnotized by the sight of his body joined to yours.
You lift your ass off the floor, back arching as you chase the pressure of his fingers. Hoseok strokes you desperately, feeling his orgasm looming menacingly at the base of his cock. It takes just a few more strained pumps of his hips to set you off.
The second he feels you clamp down around him, Hoseok folds back over you, arms braced on either side of you as he thrusts through his own orgasm. He shuts his eyes and groans as he empties his cock inside of you, thrusting until he can’t anymore.
He collapses onto you, heart racing as he tries to catch his breath.
Tumblr media
“Don’t leave me,” you groan when Hoseok peels his damp skin away from yours to get to his feet.
He strides across the room, completely nude, grinning when you turn onto your side and go up on one elbow to ogle him.
“Just for a second,” he calls out, pulling out every unorganized drawer in the kitchen until he finally comes across a pen. “Gotta finish something.”
He makes a show of holding it in the air as he walks back into the living room, opening the gold-flecked box, and pulling out the last unmarked polaroid photo.
You’re smiling the entire time you watch him pen the last caption on the last photograph.

FAULTS OF THE HEART
Chapter 1
The woods were always a sacred place for you. When you entered their depths you felt a sense of serenity and safety that had no comparison in the civilized world. The sounds of the wind rustling through the leaves, flowing streams, and the sounds of the birds and the rabbits and the deer — all the sounds of Life. So, it felt only natural for you to go to them when running for your life. Even under the light of the full moon, dappled on the ground through dense tree cover, you knew how to navigate the trails in the undergrowth. “She’s heading into the trees!” The call echoes and forces you to push harder, to run faster, so you might live to see the sun rise.
Neither you or the others in your small village knew of the now occupied reach and how the surrounding lands had been claimed until it was too late. They waited until someone unwittingly stumbled onto the land so they could make an example of them in a show of power. He called himself The Baron. He was an asshole. In taking what had been free land for himself he had doomed your village to a slow, painful death of starvation unless they bowed to his will. There was no other alternative for the village, lest they lose everything. It was his brutish thugs that pursued you, all because you strayed too far trying to feed the people you cared for. “I can’t see her! Where’d she go?” “I don’t know! Just keep looking!” You stop, sliding down an embankment to seek cover.  Hunkering down further as you hear your pursuers coming ever closer, you force yourself tighter between the gnarled roots of an ancient tree. Mud and mulch cling to your cloak and soak your back and legs but you know that if you move now you will die. Holding your breath you freeze as one of the men stalks by where you’re hiding, narrowly missing your head when he strays too close to the edge. It feels like hours, lying there in the cold, wet earth, before you hear their voices and their steps recede until there’s only the sounds of the forest left. Even then you wait a moment longer before slowly rising to your feet, brushing yourself down with shaking hands. The Baron won’t stop pursuing you if he knows you’re nearby, so it’s with a heavy heart that you know you can’t return to the village. Your possessions, though meager and few, are lost to you. Your small home left to fall into ruin. The friends you had made will become distant memories. Bitterness settles deep within your stomach and you weep, out of anger, out of sadness, that one mistake was your undoing. It’s difficult to stop the torrent once it’s unleashed, but you know you can’t linger any longer. You should already be running far away from this place. Sniffling, you wipe frantically at your eyes and nose on tattered sleeves, continuing your escape.
The soft, building light of the rising dawn brings with it a sense of melancholic relief. You wander wearily through the trees, their figures no longer familiar now that you’re so far from home, the waking songs of birds sounding triumphantly in the air. They have survived the night, and so have you. Almost. The sharp, searing pain that erupts abruptly in your left shoulder blindsides you and you stop, the world suddenly going still. For the longest moment you forget how to breathe and your mind goes blank. A choked gasp escapes you as all at once the harsh reality of what has happened comes crashing over you like a tidal wave. At first you can’t tell exactly what is lodged in your flesh, your mind a garble rush of adrenaline, only that the pain is pointed in a single location. An apprehensive glance to your shoulder sends a chill down your spine. With a whimper you reach up with your uninjured arm to feel the sharp iron tip poking through ripped flesh, warm, fresh blood coating your fingertips, then behind to gingerly finger a long, slender body of wood. An arrow, lodged so deep in your flesh it came out the other side. Your nose crinkles as the metallic tinge in the air finally hits you, gagging from the rush of dizzying sickness that sends your stomach into freefall. Pain radiates from it, rippling outwards, rending your arm useless. The shrieks of panicked birds in the canopy overhead snaps your attention to the archer hiding among the trees, the rushing footfalls thudding against the ground betraying their path; one small mercy. You force yourself to move, crying out with the effort as you hold your arm still with a firm grip. It’s the only way to limit the damage the arrow can cause while moving, but it does nothing to stop the excruciating pain it leaves in its wake. Blood leaks between your fingers but you don’t stop, can’t stop, or else you will die at the hands of this assassin. Another arrow narrowly misses your head as you veer sharply to the side, towards the sound of running water. If you can make it to the water and lose them you might just make it. That is, if the exhaustion and blood loss don’t take you out first. Several more join the hunting party, to your dismay. You pant, your head spinning and your mind beginning to fog, but at least you don’t fall. The sight of clear water fills your vision and, to your shock, a man. He startles as you rush into view, arm veined with bright scarlet, bringing with you a band of armed men. It looks as though he’s in the middle of fishing, but that’s quickly forgotten when he sees your injury and the company that are after you. “Please!” You plead, falling to your knees before him in the dewy grass, “please don’t let them kill me!” Sharp gold eyes watch you for a moment in shocked silence before he turns to eye each man as they surround you both. They’re all pointing their weapons at him, swords and bows and arrows alike, shouting for him to leave them to their business. One of them separates to train his bow on you, likely the same man who shot you in the first place, as you clutch desperately at your bleeding wound to stem the flow. “We said be on your way, stranger!” Another one snarls to the man, “this bitch is ours.” It all happens in the blink of an eye. You barely have time to comprehend the situation before it’s already over. The man stands before you, a hovering sword at his side, and only then do you realize that he has killed them all in a single sweep without so much as raising a hand. You hazard a look at the carnage around you and instantly regret it; each man dead with his throat cut, shock petrified on their faces. Quickly you look back to the man, watching him with wide eyes as he descends upon you. He speaks not a word as he looks over your shoulder, still bleeding despite your grip on it. “P-please help me,” you beg feebly, your body feeling heavy under its own weight. The blood loss was starting to take its toll on you and, though the feeling felt oddly muted and detached, you were terrified.
The sequence of events that follows next are mostly lost to you, but not for a lack of trying. You remember fragments, haphazardly pieced together. Blurred scenery. White hot pain. The scent of burning flesh. A tightness around your shoulder. Muffled talking. You try to sit up, the edges of your vision tainted black, but a firm yet gentle hand on your chest pushes you back down into soft sheets. “Where—” Your voice quickly dies in your throat as searing pain shoots through your shoulder and down your arm, a sharp cry escaping you. It takes you a moment to recover but when you finally open your eyes you gawk at your surroundings.Your mysterious savior has brought you to a musty room filled with shelves upon shelves of books, a low, crackling fire catching your attention in the dusty fireplace. Looking down at yourself you see that you’ve been set upon an old chaise lounger, a lumpy pillow beneath your head. It smells of dust, as do the sheets, but there’s an odd sense of comfort that they, and the room as a whole, offers. “I removed the arrow,” he finally speaks, golden eyes observing you as you struggle to sit up, “you should rest, you’ve lost a lot of blood.” He moves to stand, collecting up the bloodied rags and tossing them into a bowl filled with water dyed crimson as he walks to the door to leave you in peace. It’s only as he’s leaving that you realize that he’s cleaned and bandaged your wound, no doubt saving you from infection and blood loss and the slow, painful death they would have brought you. “Wait!” You call, voice hoarse. He stops, remaining with his back to you. “I,” you swallow, breathing laboured from the effort of your outburst, “I wanted to thank you, for helping me,” you grind out, an aching throb pulsing from your shoulder down your arm. For a moment he is quiet and you wonder if you’ve made a mistake in speaking to him, but that thought soon vanishes when he turns to look at you over his shoulder. You wait in anticipation for his reply, clutching the sheets weakly. “Get some rest,” he says, softer this time, but he quickly steels himself and leaves the room without any further comment. The door is left slightly ajar so you listen to the sound of his receding footsteps before sinking back slowly into the sheets. The makeshift bed is nothing like your own but it’s more than you could have expected from a stranger so you’re thankful, heaving a sigh of relief. Then you frown, because you don’t even know his name.

First Thing To Go - DAY 1
Tumblr media
DAY 1
Around dinner time and with a complimentary drink in hand, you took the elevator to the top floor. The Oceanfront Suite at the Four Seasons Maui awaited you and Kendra- two full weeks of what was supposed to be romance and relaxation. Now it seemed you wouldn’t be experiencing either. You made it to the grand white double doors of the suite and let yourselves in.
The suite was enormous with a living and dining room, doors off to the side that led to a master bedroom with a canopied California king bed. The en suite had a jacuzzi with crisp, white his and her robes hanging beside it. Your mouth downturned and you quickly spun on your heel, eager to look at anything else.
“Holy shit,” Kendra said with a whistle. “You guys were really gonna ball out.”
“Were,” you muttered and tossed your bag aside.
“Sorry.” Her eyes were down before she turned to investigate the suite further. You shouldn’t have been so defensive, especially toward the one person who dropped everything to be there for you. But you couldn’t help the turning of the knife in your chest every time you were reminded of why you were originally supposed to be here.
The room was ridiculous. There was a chilled bottle of Dom Perignon waiting for you with a card from the hotel. You flipped it open and read the obnoxious calligraphy inside:
Congratulations, Mr and Mrs Langford! From, your friends at the Four Seasons
Great. You really should have seen it coming by now. The hotel was under the impression this was your honeymoon, after all.
“This balcony is sick!” You looked up and saw Kendra leaning on the glass wall, face turned up to the sun. You tossed the stupid card in the trash can on your way to join her. She was right- the view was absolutely breathtaking. There was pristine sand and cerulean ocean as far as the eye could see, the smell of salt and tropical flowers heavy in the air. You took a deep breath and stood next to Kendra.
“I’m sorry for being shitty to you,” you said softly.
“Hey, don’t worry about it. I get it.” She nudged you with her shoulder. “But I hope you do realize I’m not going to let you mope while we’re somewhere this fucking beautiful.”
You laughed and nodded in silent acquiescence.
“Can I make a suggestion for our first order of business?” you asked with a playful turn of your lips. Kendra looked over with a raised eyebrow, urging you to go on. “I brought my medical card. Find a dispensary and order room service?”
“Ugh, so brilliant. Such a smart and thoughtful woman,” Kendra said, flashing you a devilish grin.
—-
It hadn’t taken much work to find a provisioning center near the hotel. You and Kendra made quick work of the trip and returned to the suite, ordering enough food to clean out the kitchen. The sun was long since down and you were laid out in the sun loungers on the balcony, pleasantly high with a belly full of food, just looking up at the sky with Kendra.
“It’s nice to see them for once,” you said.
“Hmm?”
“The stars. Don’t really get to see much of them back home. Only if you go out over the lake.”
“Yeah, it’s really relaxing,” she agreed before letting out a long yawn. “I’m sleepy. I’m gonna go lay down- you staying out here?”
“Just for a little bit longer.” Kendra looked at you as she stood up, biting her lip with uncertainty. “I’m not going to jump if that’s what you’re worried about.”
She laughed as she leaned down and kissed your forehead. “Just making sure. I’ll see you in the morning.”
“Night.” And with that, Kendra shut the balcony doors behind her, leaving you alone with the ocean breeze and half a blunt.
The world was quiet out here- nothing like the constant roar of the city. Lake View was a wonderful neighborhood and one you loved dearly. But there was something about only being able to listen to the breeze rustling palm leaves that put you at ease. You didn’t really consider yourself a beach kind of gal, but perhaps you could see yourself becoming one. After the last 72 or so hours, a little quiet felt pretty good. Serene, even. Maybe Kendra really was onto something when she begged you to come out here.
You lit the end and took another deep hit before closing your eyes and exhaling.
“Ah, one of my favorite smells.” Your eyes snapped open and you gasped, totally unaware that anyone else was anywhere near you. You clumsily tried to snuff out the blunt, knocking over the ashtray onto the marble floor with a loud crack. “Oh shit,” you coughed and looked around trying to find the voice that had just spoken.
“No need to stop on my accord.” The voice was deep and smooth, sultry even. There was a good chance you just made a total fool out of yourself while fumbling around in your inebriated state. You were still anxiously looking about when he added “On your left, darling.”
You spun and finally saw a feline smile on the face of a tall, undeniably gorgeous man standing on the balcony next to yours. He was tall and lean, all dark hair, beard, and eyes. Truthfully, he was textbook ‘your type’. But the minute that thought ran through your brain, you were already mentally berating yourself for even finding another person attractive just a day into what was supposed to be your honeymoon. He took a swig from a rocks glass and cocked an eyebrow.
“I’m so sorry. I didn’t think about the smell traveling,” you said sheepishly.
“Like I said, one of my favorite smells.” Like a good neighbor, you walked to the railing closest to him and offered out the blunt to him. “Sorry,” he said, raising a hand. Fuck, even his fingers were beautiful. “I’m down to only liquid vices these days, I’m afraid,” shaking around the ice in his glass for emphasis.
“Ok…” You weren’t entirely sure what that meant, but didn’t think it was appropriate to press a stranger for details.
“I’m Logan, nice to meet you,” he said and stuck out his hand far enough that you could just barely brush the tips of your fingers against his as you introduced yourself. It was a completely awkward gesture, which seemed to greatly amuse Logan.
“Likewise.” You put your feet back on solid ground and looked at Logan again.
“So, are you here in a suite by yourself or is there a mister or missus with you?”
“Real smooth,” you laughed.
“It’s just a question,” he said, tone laced with faux innocence.
You stopped short and considered dumping everything that happened on him right then. “I’m here with my best friend, actually,” you said tersely.
Logan narrowed his gaze as he looked you over. “There’s something you’re not telling me.”
“I literally don’t know you, so yeah,” you laughed, trying hard to keep it casual.
“Maybe that’s true,” he shrugged, “But it’s written all over your face. It’s ok if you don’t want to tell me.” He took another drink. “I’ll tell you why I’m here.”
“Ok, lay it on me,” you said, almost baiting Logan, and leaned on the railing with your chin resting in your palm.
“I checked out of a rehab in Malibu last night. My shrink told me it’d be better for me if I slowly worked my way back into the real world and suggested I take a little to myself before getting back to work and my family. Life in general, I guess,” he shrugged.
You didn’t know the man, that was certain, but you didn’t expect him to say that. Or to be so honest. You were really starting to feel bad for getting high right next door to him. “Wow, I...I’m so sorry for smoking next to you.”
Logan just laughed and waved you off. “You have nothing to apologize for, darling. Besides, you literally didn’t know me, right?”
You rolled your eyes at him quoting your own words  back at you. “Very funny.” You looked down for a minute before taking a long breath and exhaling. “And how’s the ‘time for yourself’ thing going? Is it scary,” you asked.
“So far, so good,” Logan said, clearly considering how it was actually going. “I’ve been clean for 94 days now, so my cravings aren’t as strong. I mean, I still want to use, don’t get me wrong. But it’s nowhere near as intense. And what’s not to like about being in paradise?” He was grinning, despite the weight of what he just told you. It was admirable, you thought.
“This was supposed to be my honeymoon,” you said abruptly. Why you decided to tell this stranger, you didn’t really know. But it felt like it would be ok to share it with Logan. Besides, you’d probably never see the dude again- who cares if he knew?
“Pardon me?”
“This,” you gestured broadly at your balcony and room, “I’m supposed to be enjoying my honeymoon right now. But as I already told you, I’m here with my best friend. Like, my actual best friend. Not the ‘oh I’m so glad I’m marrying my best friend’ best friend. And not a husband. Don’t have one of those.”
“I’m very sorry to hear that,” he said with a small frown.
“He packed up all his things, told me there was someone else, and left me two days before our wedding.” You let out a sad chuckle, using all your might to fight back the tears you knew wanted to form in your eyes. “So, yeah. Guess we’re both kind of bummers, huh?”
“For what it’s worth,” Logan started, leaning in closer over his ledge, “I think the guy’s a fucking douche bag for leaving you. I know we don’t know each other very well, but you seem delightful. Not to mention you’re fucking gorgeous.”
“You’re seriously going to hit on me when I just told you I was supposed to get married yesterday?” you scoffed.
“What am I supposed to say?” he asked, raising a perfect eyebrow and checking you out from head to toe. “If I see a beautiful woman, I think it’s my duty to share that with her.”
“You’re shameless,” you smiled and shook your head. It should have disgusted you. It should have turned you off and made you think Logan was a pig. But you couldn’t help but be just the smallest bit charmed. He was a flirt, and there was a little piece of you that was genuinely flattered.
“I’ve been called worse,” he laughed.
“Well, thanks, I guess,” you said before looking back out over the ocean, hoping to hide the heat that was rising in your cheeks.
“My pleasure,” Logan said with a smile. “So, the asshole left you high and dry and you went on your honeymoon with your best friend anyways?”
“To be fair, it was her idea.” You tugged at the ends of your hair, suddenly nervous that Logan would judge you.
“I like her style.” He finished off his drink. “I can’t imagine there’s anyone else who deserves to be stoned in Hawaii more than you,” Logan grinned.
“Ugh, don’t remind me,” you groaned. “So fucking embarrassing.”
“Nah. It’s cute. You’re cute.” His voice was low and gravely, but playful. You felt a stirring in your stomach and knew you had to cut the conversation short while you were still ahead.
“It’s late, I should probably go to bed before Kendra thinks I’ve done something stupid.” You meant for it to be a joke, but you realized you really didn’t want to worry her more than you knew she already did.
“Wouldn’t want that,” he nodded.
“It was nice talking to you. Thanks for letting me dump all my baggage on you,” you said, a tiny smile forming on your lips.
“Any time, darling.”
“Maybe I’ll see you around?” As you said it, you realized you really hoped you would.
“I sure hope so,” he said with a smirk.
“Goodnight, Logan.” You bit gently on your bottom lip and finally pushed away from the railing.
“Sweet dreams.”
You let yourself back inside and quickly got ready for bed. Talking to someone removed from the whole ordeal felt nice- someone who didn’t ask a million questions so you could just process what happened in its simplest terms. And Logan had proven to be thoughtful and a good listener. Of course, it didn’t hurt that Logan was ungodly hot. No, you scolded yourself. No thinking about Logan or anyone else like that for a long, long time. Once you’d crawled under the covers, you couldn’t stop the weight of sleep tugging at your eyelids, bringing with it dreams of a dark eyed prince.
