what's your wyvern's name? is it friendly? does it prefer duck, chicken, or pheasant? can i pet it
Cormag regards the youth--his classmate?--with a vague suspicion. What kind of person is this, whose first response to such a beast as Genarog is 'can I pet it?'
"... You grow up around wyverns, or something?"
It doesn't look likely. This one has that highborn pallor, all silk and no vitamins.
"Genarog's, uh... Best to assume he's not friendly. Couldn't tell you how many times he threw me, back when we were training."
Or how many times he nearly bit my hand off.
"As for food... I dunno. Wyverns don't really eat small game. It's goats, mostly. But he'll go belly-up for a treat, he will. Do you have any chickens? No need to clean 'em, he likes bloody meat."

Would a wolf care if someone came up to use them as a pillow? Most likely, yes. Would a laguz? It depended quite a lot on their individual personality, though in Volug's case, it was only a maybe. Would a dog, though? Probably not, and that was precisely why Linhardt was in luck. Volug didn't know who this child was. He didn't know why they had decided to sleep atop him. He didn't know if they were even aware he wasn't an ordinary dog. Had he not been pretending to be one of the animals that roamed Garreg Mach's grounds and nothing more, he would have at least said something.
Maybe it was just the warm sunbeam he was dozing in making him feel sleepy and placid. Maybe it was the gentle aura the student exuded. Maybe Volug just didn't care as much as he thought he was supposed to. It didn't really matter. For the time being, he was just an overly-large, fluffy pillow. With Linhardt's head upon his flank, Volug curled himself to plop his chin on Linhardt's lap, violet eyes turning to look up innocently at him. He could play the part of a dog begging for attention if he wanted to. Other laguz might consider it degrading, but Volug scarcely cared at all. Besides, if this beorc decided to pet him, Volug wouldn't complain. He quite enjoyed the feeling of fingers running through his fur.

"On it!" Kurthnaga chirps happily, picking up his puzzle and place it in the slot that Linhardt had just managed to reveal. Perhaps he hasn't been the most helpful partner in the world, but he's still proud that they have managed to get this far and solve the room. Despite the fact that the other boy didn't seem to want to cooperate at the start.
But they had done! By working together just like they had to the whole time! Yay!
"Do you think that's it?" He smiles at Linhardt, "If so, a pleasure and an honor to solve this puzzle with you."

Drabble: S support conversation between Caspar and Linhardt
I wrote an extremely self-indulgent drabble a long time ago and I just remembered it today. So here's my imagining of Caspar and Linhardt's S support, before their paired ending.
Mind you, I'm not a writer, so I'm sorry that this isn't quite fanfic material!
The sun is close to setting at the pier. Linhardt is fishing as usual. Caspar is standing behind him, a bit restless, pacing back and forth, his footsteps clear and loud on the wooden pier.
Linhardt can tell when Caspar's mind is racing, but this makes it especially obvious. So he doesn't even turn when he says "You know, Caspar... if you've got something on your mind, you could at least sit down while you think about whatever it is you're wanting to tell me. You're scaring the fish."
This startles Caspar out of his thinking. He stammers a bit.
"I, uh. Yeah, okay. I can't really hide anything from you, so there's no point in hiding it."
He sits down next to Linhardt, who is still staring forward, rod in hand, line still cast in the water. Caspar looks down into the water, and he sees their reflections. Somehow, that eases him a bit as he takes a deep breath.
"Do you... have any plans, now that the war's over?" He doesn't look up as he says this.
Linhardt doesn't move. "Well, I won't be taking over my family's estate, if that's what you're asking. I decided that a while ago. Why do you ask?"
There's a beat of silence. Caspar looks at Linhardt, but it's a quick glance before he's looking down at the water again. It's the best way he can look at Linhardt's face without his nerves taking over.
"Well, I was... thinking of traveling. Seeing the world. There isn't anything left for me, so I guess I can just do whatever I want. And so can you. So I just wanted to know what you were spending your free time on." He lets out a chuckle. "I guess you'll be getting a ton of naps in from now on."
Linhardt looks up and hums. "Very true. I'm not sure quite sure how much sleep I'd get in with your constant movement, but I can certainly make the most of it, now that we're no longer at war."
Caspar lets out another laugh. "Yeah, you might not-- wait, what?" Caspar looks right at Linhardt. "With my-- hold on, what do you mean by that?"
Linhardt turns his head to him and raises an eyebrow. "Traveling typically involves a lot of movement. I'm not quite sure what else I could mean by that."
Caspar blinks, processing what he'd just said, then laughs again. "Yeah, I just don't plan on staying here very long. I just wanna get out there and see the world now that it's peaceful, you know? I'll make sure to send you plenty of letters, of course!"
Linhardt just stares at Caspar as if he'd said something off-putting. "Why would you send me letters? Am I not coming with you?"
Caspar sputters in surprise, as if the wind was just knocked out of him. "Wait, ARE YOU? I thought you wanted to stay behind and, I dunno - read and sleep all day now that you don't have to fight anymore!"
Linhardt lets out a sigh. He looks... a bit hurt? "Caspar... if you don't want me to come, you should just say so."
"NO!" Caspar's response was so loud that it startled the fish nearby and Linhardt. "I mean... no! I want you come with me, that's what I wanted to ask! But... I dunno, I just figured... I mean, this isn't your kind of thing. Traveling all over the place, moving around all day? Wouldn't you rather just relax?"
Linhardt takes this moment to turn around and fully look at Caspar's face.
"Caspar, I'm not sure what gave you that idea. Yes, I've been looking forward to finally relaxing now that this goddess-forsaken war is over. But that doesn't mean I would rather not be in your company. I've always been at your side, ever since we were children. As far as I'm concerned, this is just more of what we've always done. If I've ever come off as someone who doesn't enjoy your company, I assure you that couldn't be further from the truth."
Caspar is speechless. He stares open-mouthed at Linhardt, having somehow not expected this response. This whole time he thought Linhardt would just want to stay behind. And yet they've been best friends and stuck together for so long, he should've seen this coming.
"Linhardt, I... that makes me happier than you can imagine. Because, if I'm being honest..." He turns to fully face Linhardt and look him in the eyes. He swallows, unsure of whether his next words should leave his lips. But he follows his instinct on this one.
"... traveling and seeing the world wouldn't be anywhere near as fun and satisfying if you weren't there to share it with me."
Linhardt's eyes go wide. A light blush blooms across his face. Oh. That's a good look on him.
"Well. When you put it like that, I feel a little better in saying that there would be no point in staying behind if you were gone. Life would just be... incredibly boring without you." Linhardt looks down, almost bashful, or as close as Linhardt has ever come to it. "I don't want to experience that sort of dullness in my life again."
That did it. That steeled Caspar's resolve and made him decide to take the leap. The thing that he's been really pacing back and forth over. Linhardt hadn't realized that Caspar's had his hand in his pocket the entire time they'd been talking. Caspar takes a long, deep breath. He repositions himself and takes a knee.
"Then, uh. Linhardt. Do you..." He takes out a ring from his pocket. "Will you... travel with me? Side by side? ... Hand in hand?"
Linhardt's eyes are as wide as saucers. It's now his turn to be speechless. His blush is now on full display. After a moment, he holds out his hand not holding the rod and reaches for the ring. "Caspar... are you asking me what I think you're asking?"
Caspar takes a hard swallow and nods, face determined yet strained from nervousness. His hand is shaking. "Y-Yeah. I am. Linhardt... I love y--"
Caspar was gripping onto the ring in such a way that it slipped out of his fingers and fell into the pond.
"OH MAN!"
A loud splash is heard as Caspar jumps into the pond. Well, that shook Linhardt right out of his shock.
***
Once Caspar's pulled himself out of the pond and Linhardt is drying him off using light wind magic, Linhardt is chuckling at the whole display. Caspar just groans in absolute embarrassment.
Linhardt smiles. "In case it wasn't clear, my answer is yes. I love you too, Caspar. After all, it's like I said. Our fates are not so easily untangled."
Caspar looks to Linhardt, eyes wide. "Really?! You... so you're not just saying yes to traveling, you're saying yes to me?"
"I am."
"You love me?"
"That is what I just said."
"You... love me."
"Mhm. And unless I misheard you, you love me as well."
Caspar jumps in excitement before Linhardt could finish drying his hair. "I do! I do love you! So much it hurts! You've no idea how long I've been wanting to say something! Oh man, I was so prepared for you to say no that I wasn't expecting you saying yes to be so exciting - I gotta tell everyone!"
"Caspar, wait--"
It's too late. Caspar's already bolted past Linhardt, shouting at the sky.
"YEEEAAAHHHH, LINHARDT LOVES ME BACK!!!"
Linhardt shakes his head and sighs, a smile still on his face and so much fondness in his heart.
"Utterly ridiculous."

So I'm probably gonna get a Switch Lite in like a week after saving up some cash for half-a-year and I ordered a physical copy of FE3H to finally experience the game for myself. (Late to the party by 5 years, oops.) Now the only problem is while I love how there's actually decent gay romance options (aside the child goddess in your head and the hot pope whom i have a love-hate relationship with), it feels like a bare minimum?
Like I wanna romance either Edelgard or Dorothea because they're my favorites, but see here is that I also ship them together and aim for their paired ending so that leaves me with Mercedes (not a bad option really, Mercie is my favorite Blue Lion, just a bummer there's no bi romance options in the Golden Deer because I also want Marianne *sobs*)
I mean, I could always just replay the game when I damn please, but to quote my girl Hilda Valentine Goneril: "You're making me work!"
#i feel much worse for the m!byleth mains tho bc their options are dlc locked and only linhardt is available#also what came into intsys' mind to make platonic s supports for him with two old men#like sweet sentiment and all but yknow ppl are gonna read it the wrong way right?#fe3h

The degree of humiliation to which Alfonse was willing to subject himself sometimes astounded him. He had long been used to his mother and sister creating silly outfits for him to wear, sure, but the idea of being paid to wear a degrading outfit was a different challenge entirely for his dignity to endure. The fact that he would never even see a single gold from the endeavor only added insult to injury. No, no, every coin he earned was being funneled directly back to the Order of Heroes, as per Commander Anna's request. Honestly, sometimes Alfonse wondered if he would be better off not telling anyone where he was going so Feh would be incapable of delivering messages to him.
It hardly made a difference at this point. Just a bit of wishful thinking that would get him nowhere. Here he was, cleaning up tables while wearing a ridiculous, frilly outfit. The short skirt made it all extra humiliating. The leggings were hardly what he would choose for himself. At least he already had experience walking in heels. He could grimace and pretend it was the sort of thing Sharena would have him wear for a festival-- or at the very least, he could try. Hearing people around him giggling as they cast glances in his direction made it a lot harder.
Or... no. It wasn't him they were looking at, was it? Alfonse followed the eyes of a nearby gaggle of girls, glancing in the direction they gawked. He wasn't their focus at all. No, Linhardt was the one garnering all of these gazes, despite seeming entirely unaware of it. Should Alfonse say something? Probably. If nothing else, misery loved company.
"...Er, you know that people are staring at you, right?" Alfonse finally piped up, placing the sopping rag he was holding down on the nearest table so he could straighten his humiliating attire. "What are you even doing here? You don't seem like you really care all that much for what's going on."

"Let me tell you a story about a nosy little boy named um... Finhardt. So this kid Fin, he gets really up in somebody's business, right? And it turns out, that somebody is a bandit, with a taste for the meat of nosy little children. So one day when he goes to bother this man, he gets scooped up and kidnapped! And he was never seen again. Poor kid, right?"
Catherine sets down her fork, and swalllows the rest of the bite she was chewing. Of all the days to not dine with company, this had to be the worst one.
"...You picking up what I'm putting down, little eagle?"

“Linhardt is an outstandingly intelligent individual, particularly in matters related to Crests. His liking for the subject is both eye-catching and quite useful, as I am sure Professor Hanneman would appreciate a fellow scholar in the long and arduous research that is the study of Crests. That aside, while his performance in exams is fairly good, his composure in class seems to be rather…selective, judging by some reports.”
“I find myself wondering if his condition stems from repeatedly spending entire nights awake, and if yes, what could be done to help him readjust his sleeping schedule so as to allow him more energy throughout the day. I have recently given him some herbs with calming properties, in hopes that they aid him in that scenario.”
“...his family has received a most unique blessing from one of the saints, many generations ago. I hope they carry on her legacy with pride and good faith.”

At the sight of the geometric pattern, Knoll frowned in concentration. It is the first time he sees the manifestation of a crest. The intricacies are astounding. It's like a candle fire, but green-white and, instead of flickering, is soldered into a very clear pattern. Three pairs of curvy "v"s, up and down, crossing each others. He could also perceive, thanks to his magical training, an extremely faint, buzzing aura emanating from it, but also from Linhardt's body. It IS as if the whole person is an artifact, thought Knoll.
"Saint Cethleann," he murmured.
The shape disappears, bringing Knoll out from his fascination.
He listens to them with half an ear, but that's enough for him to register what is said. "Indeed, it seems to me that a book on your region's crests should include such a fact," he answered. He is visibly thinking fast, merging hypotheses and extending conjunctures. "I'm Knoll," he continued mechanically, still lost in thought.
Then, as if he stumbled on an important idea, he stares for a moment at Linhardt and opens his mouth to ask: "How does it feel? Is it… draining? Do you activate it based on intuition alone, or do you need practice? And, and…" His eyes go left and right, thinking of what to ask next, between all the questions he can think of. But it occurs to him that he should not overwhelm his classmate, as he often did back in Grado. Curiosity is a great gift, but can also be an irksome social trait. He should've learned by then.
As he listens to Linhardt's response, he scribbles some unconnected words on the corner of a sheet, so as to not let go of his other questions.

"Linhardt has a bright mind. Still, he needs to apply himself more on other vital tasks. This is both to ensure his talents are utilized to their fullest potential and for his future. A training session or three is sure to be in order, though I anticipate being rejected at the proposition. That won't stop me from asking."
"There is reason I act this way. He must realize this. However, he is skilled at this research he spends time doing. That work clearly takes up much of his time. There must be a balance in place between this and other imperative matters. Once that is reached, I would hope I could gain a glimpse of that study for myself."

As the warmth of the crackling flame seeped into Alfonse's weary body, it created new worries that had been absent moments earlier. The need for shelter had been sated; they were fully protected from the cold outside now. Alfonse had been freed to wonder about less immediately essential aspects of the interaction. Survival had taken over all thoughts prior, but now he could think more carefully about what he was saying-- he could recognize the error he had made a moment ago.
Alfonse's lips were clumsy from the cold that had set in. Forming and properly annunciating his words was a slower process than he'd like it to be, and it felt like his tongue was about to betray him at every step of the process. He didn't stumble over anything he said, though. It just forced him to take a moment longer when he spoke, to be that much more careful about what he said and how he said it. Being concise was much more important when speaking was a chore, after all, but that desire to get directly to the point was precisely the problem. He hadn't danced around his thoughts like he preferred to when speaking to residents of Fódlan. He hadn't been careful to couch his familiarity with the others in plausible deniability.
"Forgive my saying so, then," Alfonse mumbled, eyes staring into the fire instead of at the other student. "It's not like we're not housemates, after all. I'm not as familiar with you as I am with other Lions. I must have been mistaken, or just given credence to things I'd heard others say of you over anything I actually experienced."
It wasn't the most convincing excuse and Alfonse knew it. There was still a lingering implication there that he just wasn't fond of, the notion that Linhardt was being discussed so freely by others. People would have to be praising Linhardt's prowess with magic for Alfonse to have heard anything that would lead him to believe Linhardt to be more capable than they actually were. Frustrating as it was that this Fódlan carried differences from other Fódlans so silly and insignificant as which spells someone used, Alfonse had little choice but to get used to it.
He wouldn't think that someone's preferences would be so different in another world-- if which spells they could use came from some innate aspect of their being like he was led to believe the magics of Fódlan often did, Alfonse didn't know how this Linhardt could have differed so significantly from others as to cause them to be incapable of using the same spells. Were they not the same person at heart? Maybe it was just a matter of preference... but why would their preferences be so far removed from those of the Linhardts that Alfonse had met prior? He furrowed his brow, sighing to himself once again. This wasn't something he could get an easy answer to, not without making his familiarity with the concept of a Linhardt too apparent for his liking.
"I'm no mage myself," Alfonse added, trying to give himself some kind of excuse to be unfamiliar with the intricacies of magic. "I find it difficult to trust a spell the same way I can put my faith in a weapon. The feeling of hefting a blade just provides a reassurance that what I intend to happen will indeed occur that I just don't find magic to bring me, if that makes sense. I can't say I really understand why people use the magic that they do, so forgive my confusion on the matter."

this ball is a hecking nightmare | linhardt mini
continued from here.
Breathe in, breathe out. No normal questions about where the beverages are or how’s the music going. No, the kid had to go straight to the point, apparently not having forgotten a single thing from their brief first meeting. Lambert thought the student looked like the forgetful type- because despite the questions they had this sleepy look on their eyes…that the professor wondered- and found comfort in- if they were just sleep deprived and speaking nonsense.
No. The kid was serious.
“I did not need Hanneman for that.” Sadly. Lambert wasn’t going to reach for Hanneman either way, but enough things had happened to give him the confirmation that he didn’t even want to reach. Yes, he did have a stupid crest. No, he didn’t know which one it was, he couldn’t care- all he knew was that it was successful in at least completely destabilizing every perceived notion of peace he thought he had reached.
His body wasn’t his. He simply happened to share it with that star from hell.
“Why do you care anyway, honestly?” The professor’s tone was tired, almost whiny. It was unintentional but at this point he was trying his hardest to hold on to something, anything that could allow him to at least conclude his job. He didn’t want to be here, he wanted to go to the Abyss and hopefully stay there until his mind figured itself out.
Though, he couldn’t, could he? He’d be running away from the very thing he came here to do.
Shouldn’t he be striving to regain his memories? Why such cowardice?
“What is the big deal of me having a crest?”
