Honestly I didn't give a shit about the whole brothel thing with Astarion up until some people the fandom started to constantly gaslight others about it. On one hand, they will say that of course it's fine not to take him there if you or your Tav aren't comfortable with something like this but on another hand they will very subtly (sometimes directly) shame you for not making that choice since they won't ever shut up about how very excited he is to try this, that we shouldn't treat him like a child and ignore his wishes and act as if he's made of glass. That somehow we are the bad ones for controlling and infantilising him when this literally doesn't happen???? They actually act as if he's out there at camp pestering Tav about doing orgies and going to that place when he literally doesn't ask for any of this unless Tav agrees to it in the brothel. Anyway I just can't take them seriously anymore, sure, do the orgy if that's your thing or your Tav legitimately thinks it's going to be a good thing for Astarion since they can't know about the outcome beforehand but let's not freak out every time someone criticizes Larian's writing on this part of the game or pretend that we want to take your orgy out of the game just because we criticized it.

Haha, it's typical. People trying to play the victim car - So you want to remove part of the game, you asshole? No, the only problem is the lack of conseqence to any of that. If the whole thing isn't failed experiment, then you should not have implied it, Larian. You can't have it both ways. It's idiotic to act like he can't wait to be in poly or do orgies - his reluctance to be in poly with almost everyone speaks otherwise, no matter how muddy the reasons he gives are.

Assuming SA survivor wouldn't cope well with orgies isn't infantilizing. Tav isn't an asshole to go through with it but certainly isn't the brightest or most empathetic for taking what Astarion (of all people) says there at face value. I don't even know where the delussion of doing that for him comes from. There's no "thank you, selfless hero" either.

I recommend detox from the fandom discourse and caring too much what others do with their Barbies. It needlesssly upsets you.

I've seen people tagging anything Goncharov-related as "unreality" and I'm not sure why because I thought unreality was mainly triggered by sensory things irl (such as light, sounds, and situations in real waking life), and not fictional works online or imaginary scenarios on a screen. I feel like it's on the same level as tagging gifs of movies with fictional characters or fanart as "unreality" because none of those things depicted are real.

they're trigger warning it as 'unreality' because they think that people with dissociative disorders might see a joke and think they're going crazy or something. it's fucking stupid because that's not how dissociative disorders work, the triggers are usually either general stress, or traumatic events (and things relating to that event/s can be a trigger, like ptsd. in fact dissociation is a common symptom of ptsd). or sometimes it can be completely random, but it's virtually never gonna be triggered by an online joke like that, otherwise they'd literally never be able to cope being on social media at all. yes, the joke type is technically pretending something is real when it isn't, but deadpan humour is popular everywhere.

if people can't handle online (non harmful) jokes without having a severe disorder triggered, they should probably not be online, but also, non dissociative people should not be patronising and infantilising dissociative people. i used to have pretty bad dissociation relating to the combo of severe depression and autism (i was pretty much bed bound apart from mandatory school for several years as a teen), and the episodes were caused by school and home stress and traumatic events. the online stuff that made it worse was arguments and harassments, not jokes.

speaking of, i have also seen people claim the tags are to help autistics know that it's a joke...which just makes me and a ton of others feel insulted. i miss deadpan jokes a lot, or am slow to get them, but they're still fun and funny once i get them. ruining them because of an assumption that we can't enjoy them or never get them is more ableist than not having some stupid tag.

I was asked this on my old blog right as I set about transitioning to this one, so...

The first character I ever fell in love with: for DA:O, dare I say Daveth? What can I say -- I irrationally got incredibly attached to him. otherwise, DEFINITELY Morrigan, and I have crystal clear memories of my first run through Lothering and looking at Morrigan like 😍 the whole time. For DA:2/E, Carver -- unless you count Anders & Justice since I knew of them from Awakening beforehand, in which case probably Justice. For DA:I, it’s a toss-up between Vivienne or Cole -- I technically liked Cole first but SPECIFICALLY in the supporting material (Asunder), and didn’t vibe with him anywhere near as much in the game, AND I got him as a companion after I got Vivienne, so probably Vivienne.

A character that I used to love/like, but now do not: for DA:O, I guess Oghren? I never loved him, but I liked the idea of him because I really liked the dwarves/Orzammar side of DA’s worldbuilding -- but he’s such an unlikeable character that I just.. don’t vibe with him at all. I debate recruiting him every single time now, and I don’t think I ever do his personal quest (in the base game OR Awakening). for DA:2/E, I don’t really have anyone that fits -- but I REALLY wanted to like Merrill and Aveline more than I did, and especially in Aveline’s case, I can’t stand her and genuinely think she’s the unintended, secret Big Bad of the whole game. for DA:I, probably Cole, bc I was really into the idea of a little walking-corpse serial killer animated by a spirit as per the book, but that’s not really the vibe in DA:I, and combined with the somewhat patronising/ableist language and how significantly he is infantilised (including by the fandom) I just got put off him. I do still like him, but not as much.

A ship that I used to love/like, but now do not: for DA:O, I don’t really have one? I guess see my DA:I answer, lol... for DA:2/E, has to be Anders - I don’t think he’s OOC in 2, but I think his writing does so little with him and he feels v. reductive. Where his relationship could be SO interesting and angsty, it instead is written in a really dull and/or cringey way. It would have been nice to see Anders more like the Anders of Awakening near the beginning of the game (rather than random, infrequent and questionably rare snippets), and then see the progression of his relationship with Justice as the game went on -- I want more interesting abominations, PLEASE. for DA:I, listen I cannot express to you HOW EXCITED I was for my planned Lavellan to romance Sera… also I used to be way more tolerant of Cullen x Amell/Surana ships because, like, hey dark ships are fun, right? But since Cullen’s ~wholesome whitewash~ in DA:I, and his fandom clamouring to absolve him of any wrongdoing ever.. it’s boring to me.

My ultimate favourite character™: for DA:O, probably Sten? or Morrigan. They’re both fantastic, and also are significant comfort chars for me. for DA:2/3, honestly, probably my own Hawke -- I feel so hugely proud of her, and can’t imagine I’d enjoy the game anywhere near as much had I not played it as my Hawke. If not her, maybe Sebastian or Carver? for DA:I, I really love Vivienne, as well as Blackwall, and Solas is a great character even if I probably would not say I liked him.

Prettiest character: for DA:O, we all know it’s Zevran. for DA:2/E, I think Aveline -- although her aggressively bland colour-scheme lets her down in a major way (although I respect her dedication to all orange all day every day). There’s just something about her arms -- very Abby from TLOU:2. for DA:I, maybe Josephine? Ser Barris is very pretty, too...

My most hated character: for DA:O, I really didn’t like Alistair, Wynne and Oghren, and of my companions - Oghren is probably my least favourite. He’s vulgar and also profoundly uninteresting. for DA:2/E, it has to be Aveline. There’s just something about ineptitude and a complete, wilful refusal to take accountability for your actions that I can’t stand. It would be okay if it was an intentional character flaw, but the game/narrative treats her like she’s lawful good and it really annoys me. for DA:I, maybe Iron Bull? He was a huge disappointment for me. I also really dislike Sera, Cassandra, and Varric. I’m so sick of Varric - I never want to see him again.

My OTP: for DA:O, I really loved Zevran’s romance -- but I am also very amused by the fact that Leliana got to ‘love’ status with Kallian accidentally, AND I got the ‘love’ glitch for Justice (👀) and Velanna. I do sometimes wonder about an AU where Kallian is forced to make a politically expedient marriage with Nathaniel Howe for diplomatic reasons in order to consolidate her position as Arlessa, and it being an entirely platonic arrangement (it’s not like anyone expects an heir from an infertile Grey Warden) -- and maybe Zev and Nate kiss sometimes, who knows? I also LOVE my Darkspawn Chronicles AU where Kallian and Nelaros are a happy, married couple each hiding their skills with weapons from each other like dumb, cute sweethearts. They shelter Zevran when he fails to kill Alistair and a poly couple evolves. for DA:2/E, I love the IDEA of a Seb romance that isn’t so strictly conditional around the structures that abused him -- he should be allowed to love, chastely or otherwise, but free from the Chantry OR his position as prince/heir. I’d LOVE to actually have a romance with him where you can actually challenge the abuse he’s experienced. for DA:I, Malika doesn’t have a canon romance (although I think when I replay, I’m going to romance Josephine!) but I think Blackwall has an amazing romance. Solas’ is also iconic, it must be said. 

My NOTP: for DA:O, I really dislike Alistair in a shipping capacity; he’s immature and says a lot of misogynistic shit and I don’t think he’s the worst for it, but I don’t really vibe with shipping him, having played the game as a female city elf. for DA:2/E, I wouldn’t say I have one, particularly? although I really dislike Aveline’s relationship with her husband simply because it seems incredibly inappropriate, given that they work together and she has power over him -- and because I dislike her, generally, I don’t feel inclined to do something nice for her. for DA:I, I suppose Sera/Lavellan -- although I’m not AGAINST it, it just really isn’t for me, having attempted it. I also don’t really vibe with Dorian x Iron Bull. Something abt the way the game handled BDSM and their relationship banter specifically I don’t really like.

Favourite episode quest: for DA:O, probs Orzammar/the Deep Roads. I really love the dwarven lore! and, of course, Fort Drakon is really funny, even though it’s not canon in my game iirc. for DA:2/E, maybe the murder mystery with the serial killer, where ultimately Leandra dies? I also really enjoyed all the companion quests. for DA:I, The Descent (just, all of it, lmao) and everything to do with the Avvar. Crestwood also BANGED.

Saddest death: for DA:O, it’s frankly a fucking INJUSTICE that Shianni gets murdered if you make her Bann of the Alienage -- the idea of that happening whilst Kallian is in Amaranthine and unable to protect her :( genuinely very upsetting. I go back and forth on who is made Bann, tbf, so idk how canonical it is: I think maybe Cyrion would get it, but I’m also endeared to Soris holding the position, with Shianni as Hahren. for DA:2/E, Bethany. I wish both twins had had the chance to reach Kirkwall :(. Let Leandra die instead. for DA:I, maybe not the saddest death, but the most memorable for me was that one sleeping dragon in the Hissing Wastes.. leave her alone. Stay out of a womans’ business.

Favourite season game: DA:O!

Least favourite season game: DA:I.

Character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but I hate: for DA:O, Alistair. I cannot deal with his complacency and hypocrisy. for DA:2, I really disliked Merrill but I honestly cannot remember why. DEFINITELY Varric -- I hated how the game forces you to be his best friend, and if you’re low approval, you have to endure these pointless pissy little comments with this little anti-dwarf centrist pissant. After the expedition, I literally have no reason to put up with him, and I NEVER take him out. I hate that he plays the same role in DA:I, too. for DA:I, the Iron Bull was hugely disappointing, and I also really don’t vibe with Cassandra. She just seems very wishy-washy and complacent and hypocritical, and many of her comments about other cultures seem snide for literally no reason other than bigotry. 

My ‘you’re a piece of trash, but you’re still a fave’ fave: for DA:O, lbr probably Sten. Mans is gonna launch a HORRIFYING invasion in the next game iirc and frankly, I’m ok with it. Just wanna see that big bastard again ❤🥵. for DA:2/E, I LOVE Gamlen, ok? for DA:I, I am not sure if I have one.

My ‘beautiful cinnamon roll who deserves better than this’ fave: for DA:O, if any of you so much as LOOK at Velanna wrong, it’s hands. That includes Bioware. I also feel incredibly protective of and sad for Morrigan. for DA:2/E, probably Sebastian -- I feel so sad for him, and so frustrated by the limitations with the game. for DA:I, I’m honestly not sure.. maybe Josephine? I don’t really feel this way about Sera, but I do think she deserves better from the game and its writing, and also from fandom: there are valid criticisms of her, but the hate she gets is not proportional to any valid issues with her -- and gee, I wonder why that is.

My ‘this ship is wrong, nasty, and makes me want to cleanse my soul, but i still love it’ ship: for DA:O, I did use to find Cullen x Surana/Amell intriguing as a dark ship -- I actually hc that Neria Surana is actually Nelaros’ sister, and have dabbled with it as a dark ship. I also am interested in Loghain/Alistair - which each pretends the other is someone else. Alistair is wooby, hate ships are, in general, fun -- so long as we acknowledge that they are, indeed, unhealthy ships. for DA:2/E, I kind of feel like Sebastian romances are, invariably, kind of dark... and, similarly, Anders romances -- especially with certain red Hawkes, The way it ends is, invariably, bordering on fucked up. ALSO Hawkecest is weird and wonderful: GET WITH IT. 

My ‘they’re kind of cute, and I lowkey ship them, but I’m not too invested’ ship: for DA:O, I joked about Velanna x Leliana once and I’ve not been able to stop thinking about it ever since… Velanna x Sigrun is also something that can be so personal. Ariane x Finn is adorable and are paid DUST by Bioware AND fandom. I actually am really into Anora x Nathaniel & NO I will NOT explain myself; it’s a crackship but it’s MY crackship. for DA:2/E, Isabela x Fenris is super cute, but I don’t pay enough attention to them to really have super committed thoughts & feelings on them. for DA:I, Blackwall x Josephine is cute as a background ship; I also think Maryden x Cole is sweet.

I feel like...you can’t be all “Alex is strong and brave, he isn’t scared of anything, he’s always in control, it’s infantilising to suggest otherwise” and then also have him being manipulated by his dad, thus showing that his innate goodness and belief in the goodness of others and their capacity to change leaves him vulnerable to being taken advantage of, and after he knows he’s been manipulated, confirm that he still has that very strong belief in people’s capacity to change (because he needs to for his own sake) even for someone who just kidnapped him. You can’t do that and then pretend it wouldn’t affect him in any other way, that he wouldn’t allow other people to take advantage of him because he’s so determined to believe that, even if really deep down, they’re good people who don’t really want to hurt him or he can encourage them to be better.

It’s very interesting that one of his biggest strengths can also be one of his biggest weaknesses, that his determination to believe in the inherent goodness of people can also make him come across as naive and leave him vulnerable. But we surely can’t assume that what happened with his dad is an isolated incident. If he’s someone who can be manipulated and taken advantage of by the people he loves, it’s a totally valid reading that non-family members have the potential to do that too, that he might not always recognise when someone doesn’t have his best interests at heart (ETA: even unintentionally - I’m not saying everyone around him is out to hurt him or purposefully manipulate him).

Stop saying "guys" when the group you're addressing has women in it. When you pose a hypothetical question, make a woman the subject of it, not a man.

Or go even further... what do you have to lose? Patriarchy is a poison so diffused into our society, you can't help but breathe it in, why not try to freshen the air on your own? Use female-as-default language. We've had millennia of MANkind, huMAN, MAN this MAN that. Men as hypotheticals, men as leaders, men as political figures, men as athletes, men as doctors, men as everything.

Ive had enough.

Say "womankind". Think "womankind". I dont care if its clunky. I dont care that its not inclusive—men have never cared about including us.

I dont care that it wont change things on a systematic scale.

But why stop there? Go further.

When talking about a hypothetical figure, ensure that it is always a woman. Make it so every politician is a woman, every engineer, every medical professional, every [insert occupatuon here]—until proven otherwise. Reverse the subtle sexist descriptors in your language that place women in an inferior position to men. There are Sports and "men's sports". There are Businesswomen, and "men who work in business". There are Scientists and "men scientists". And yes, saying "men [profession]" is important.

Don't you hate hearing about "Woman [profession]"? Don't you despise how incorrect the grammar of "woman musicans", "woman politicians", "women authors."? Aren't you sick of the faux-inclusivity that makes it clear that "woman" was tacked on as a second thought; as a matter of optics?

Because I am. And I want men to get a taste of their own medicine.

Thats still not enough. You can go further. How about this: Assume that all academic discoveries were and are made by women.

"Wow, whoever discovered [scientific phenomenon] must have been a brilliant woman."

Academics are often referred to only using their surnames, why should it be unreasonable to assume that it could have belonged to a woman? Perhaps it is because men kept us out of higher education throughout history. Subvert the narrative. Refuse to acknowledge them, as they refused to acknowledge us

Women have always been delegated to lesser; to second class. Why is there this precieved harm in men recieving the same treatment? They make fun of our "SJW complaining". Surely they can stomach dealing with the same treatment—especially seeing as they think they are so much more rational and smart and strong.

After all, if it does turn out to be harmful, then that is just an omission of guilt. If men find female-as-default language humiliating and emasculating, then surely they must be able to acknowledge that male-as-default is just as harmful to women.

Don't you want to be able to ask, "hey, what are you ladies up to?" to a group of men with the same nonchalant tone that you would use to ask a group of women "oh hey, how are you guys doing??"

Oh, and another more important thing. Don't you notice how women are so often refered to as girls? "How are you girls?", "whats a pretty girl like you doing here?", girl's night, girl talk, call girl, the "girls, girls, girls" on strip club advertisments. Aren't you sickened by it? Aren't you tired of the constant infantilisation? I am, so I propose you extend the same courtesy to men—oh wait, I'm sorry... boys. And while you're doing this, i suggest that you only use the word "girl" when refering to children.

You can create this wonderful little world in your head when men aren't the default. You can pretend. You can escape.

Male-as-default language has conditioned society into thinking Men Are Better, and that women are inferior to them—or worse—unmentionable. Unremarkable. Forgettable.

And you know what... men are lucky. They are lucky that the most "harm" i can do to them is this: Pointless little attacks with shitty little weaponised words. And what's really funny is they are so lucky and so privileged as to think that what I'm doing (this so-called man-hating. This so-called misandry) is just as bad as what they have done to me; to us; to the women who came before us.

But thats not the only reason they are lucky—do you want to know the real one? My favourite one?

So in germany a few days ago a youtuber called Rezo made a video called “Die Zerstörung der CDU” (The destruction of the CDU). Now the CDU is our biggest political party, the party Angela Merkel is from, pretty conservative.

And well as you can guess from the title, he took them apart. With facts. He had about 50 sources and made arguments about what they’ve done or not done for the economy, climate change, their general incomopetence and the fact that germany has helped or at the very least not stopped the USA from killing innocent people with drones. All while the CDU has been in power. He also roasted the SPD which claims to be the social-democratic party but recently hasn’t been all that, has also been in power for much of the past years and is therefore equally to blame, doesn’t keep their promises and in the end too often caves in to what the CDU wants. Also general incompetence. That seems to be a theme.

Now the video was pretty well researched, again he had a lot of sources, of course not all of his arguments were airtight, but he made some very good points. You’d think the CDU could use that to y’know start a dialoge, make their own arguments, or say “yes some of that is right, we’ll try to do better”. Instead they threw a fit, got really mad, made some disparaging commments about Rezo and youtubers in general. (they also released a 12 page open letter, that i haven’t read except for a few quotes (that disparage youtubers and claim that the CDU deals in trust.... right)

Anyway today was the european election and the CDU lost quite a bit. Especially among voters under 30 (SPD lost a lot too). And I’d hope that they take that as a sign that they should change what they’re doing, because when the main people who vote for you are people older than 70, you’re eventually gonna have a problem. But I can already see them claiming that Rezo used his fame to influence poor young voters who would otherwise surely have voted CDU. Because that’s absolutely what happened.

I think what Rezo did, was maybe convince some more people to actually go vote. And maybe some kids <18 to tell their parents to not vote CDU. But his video didn’t suddenly make young people hate them. We already did that before Rezo, he just summed up all the reasons we do.

The hashtag #niemehrcdu (never again cdu) was already trending before Rezo. It trended every time a CDU politican claimed that all the mails he got about article 13 were bots, every time they said the friday for future kids should protest after school, not miss school for it, every time they said that the kids didn’t know what they were talking about, that they were instrumentalised or that the thousands of young people on the streets had been payed to be there or that they should leave this kind of thing to the professionals (no wait. that was Christian Lindner from the FDP.... well we don’t exactly like him either).

The CDU ignored us and pretended everything we do doesn’t count, isn’t true, isn’t right or is just fake news (yes. they used #fakenews to talk about Rezo’s video... did i mention the 50 sources?).

They will blame Rezo for this. They will keep infantilising young voters and soon to be voters, keep pretending that we were instrumentalised, that we can’t think for ourselves. That we don’t count.

Well our green party got around 21% and is the new second biggest party (SPD fell to around 15) The only reason green isn’t above even the CDU is that old voters outnumber young voters in germany. They will die though. And the CDU will die with them.

Sadly by that time it’s probably gonna be too late for our planet.

in conclusion: this episode literally doesn’t work. it sets up a replica of amazon and the atrocities that they commit against their workers, including stuff like constant surveillance and monitoring, obsession with quotas, literally putting trackers on their workers that look like police monitors, punishment for talking during work time. they also create their own laws, so have absolute power. the robots are framed to be creepy and intimating. all of these point out in red flashing lights that this corporation are the bad guys, you cannot look at any of these things and justify them morally. but no in order for a shock last minute twist they create a murderer with the motivation of protest against automation. the doctor then further defends ‘the system’ and ignores any and all inhumane treatment of exploit and abuse against workers in addition to completely ignoring kira’s death by the hands of the system. she is also responsible for charlie’s death as there was no need to detonate the bombs, she only needed to prevent them from teleporting out.
