Iron Marches (Part 3)
It is difficult to line this area up visually over time, as it starts in a state of destruction and only deteriorates from there. The Wall is rubble, or gone, the depleted lakes are now shallow and oily, and there’s no trace of human habitation where they once built the capital of Ascalon.
The Ruins of Surmia outpost has nothing left, no mention of the name on the map. The original capital, Drascir, destroyed before the Searing, has been ruptured through by the jutting crystals of the brand.
A statue commemorating the founding of Surmia used to sit outside the capital, and although it’s destroyed there is a small spring and a waterfall in the brand, at roughly the same position.
"Prepare for the coming of those whose departure caused the gods to weep! The time has come to atone for our arrogance! The Flameseeker Prophecies will be fulfilled. Make peace with the gods before it's too late!"

GW2 Photo Challenge - Day 11 - A gorgeous landscape
It’s one of my favourite little serene spots in the game. On the corner of Hellion Forest, east side of Iron Marches. It’s a hazy autumn morning with the ruins of the Great Wall hiding behind the haze. The water’s a lovely clean colour and it reminds me so much of pre-searing from the original Guild Wars. In fact it overlaps with a lot of The Great Northern Wall mission area and very close to Surmia, the first place to fall during the Charr Invasion of 1070 AE.

Reign is just a stage name. A persona just for the stages of Surmia's theatres. She was such a powerful mesmser that illusion magic came easily to her and much of her youth was spent performing.
Surmia was a prosperous cultural center built north of the Ascalonian Great Wall. A monument to commemorate those lost during the last Guild War, there were those that thought it foolish that a city be built there at all. It was a different time and one where the Charr had not been seen for many years. Other cities and settlements would later appear north of the wall like Drascir, Grendich Village, and Gaban's Estate. Ascalon was growing and rebuilding during that time of peace.
Reign was using her power as a Lady of the Court, to fund the arts in Surmia while also devoting her time to mastering her mesmer abilities. She spent time focusing on learning Domination magic to make her illusion spells feel more powerful. She met the young prodigy, Cynn, during her studies and was impressed by the young girl's aptitude for fire magic.
Like the rest of the kingdom in 1070, Reign was caught by the destruction of the searing. There was a tremendous crash and a bright flash of light as the searing crystals rained down from the sky, leaving Ascalon an apocalyptic ruin. The wall toppled, Reign woke to darkness and ash. She was able to cast a glamour spell at the moment of the destruction. She was studying the spell in a book when her palatial estate suddenly exploded. Feedback, she would call it, created a magical barrier that protected her. Useful, but the technique would be lost as full effects of the disaster became apparent and began to weigh heavily on her mind. It took all she had to collect herself and help those fleeing the ruins of Surmia to reach Ascalon City, through the frontier gate. It would later become one of her greatest regrets to not search the neighboring estate where a young girl, Cynn, layed trapped beneath a table and the rubble of her home.
She was determined to save her home, but her journey would lead to saving the rest of Tyria.
