it can grow basically anywhere but it prefers iron rich soils and a somewhat humid/rainy climate. it requires to be in or near a body of water as it requires a shit ton of water to keep its core wet. if you have ever had sugar cane, the core's texture is similar to that. the average reedwater plant is around 8-15 ft tall, but in its preferred environment it can get to 20ish ft. its been domesticated and is grown and harvested by traditional devils to be used as a food source, medicine, wood for weaving and dye along with other uses such as just decoration or to be smoked. it also cannot burn into ashes, instead the grain of the bark and husk expands and blackens. while its most often used to make medicine, the flesh of the fruit is bitter, soft and sour and its sometimes consumed raw or pitted and thrown into foods as a garnish or side. its also sometimes pickled and eaten like an olive. theyre often called swampberries. the root is very large and equally as soaked in water as the core. basically like an oversized turnip but juicy like a watermelon. its usually just eaten raw as a snack or with food. its sometimes chopped and cooked into soups. when cooked, its slimey like an okra and soft. the core is smoked in a pipe made out of the reedwater bark with a filter made out of the husk. its usually used in ceremonies, but is sometimes used recreationally. its not addictive and it has no effects on the mind, and the "smoke" is actually just the water from the core evaporating in the heat. its usually also used to strengthen the lungs of devils not used to the smog created from cremation. leaves are ground up and used as dye. pretty self explanatory. you could also uproot one and wack people across the head with it. the root makes for a good hammer head.

Born to Turtlefeet and Partridgesun, Cloverblossom lived a good life, spoiled by her parents and Clanmates. She was apprenticed to Hawkstar and her and her siblings were made warriors at a young age. She was brave and loyal to her Clan, until she met Shrewflame of SalmonClan.

Shrewflame was loud and stupid and she loved that about him. They kept their relationship secret for a while, before Cloverblossom convinced Shrewflame to go to Sharkseer and Sealseer to ask if they may have kits. The Seers decided to speak with StarClan about their request, and the two anxiously waited for their answer. Only to be shocked when the Seers said no. Cloverblossom didn't know what to do: she was already pregnant.

After that, they grew distant, unsure if they wanted to continue the relationship if StarClan didn't approve. Cloverblossom moved to the nursery and claimed her kits were a rogue's. No one questioned it, but Cloverblossom noticed Sealseer eyeing her kits, making her fur prickle.

The fact that StarClan forbade Shrewflame and her to have kits kept her up at night, wondering why they didn't want this to happen. She wondered if they'd be hurt or if they would cause a war in the future. She'd wrap herself around her kits every night and assure them how much she loved them, hoping that'd keep them from becoming bad cats.

She wished her kits knew their father, but she never brought them to meet him. She told Shrewflame about them once at a Gathering, only to never speak to him again. When Paintbrushthroat and Swampberry became like fathers to the kits, Cloverblossom's heart filled once more. Maybe this was StarClan's way of telling her her kits would be okay.

Swampkit was born to three she-cats, Columbinemouse, Lilypool, and Laurelpuddle, during a long Frost alongside Shortkit and Lionkit. They  grew up during a greencough outbreak and Swampkit developed it when he was very young. He nearly died that Frost from the severe illness. But the medicine cat at the time, Pipershade, saved him. Lilypool stayed in the den with him while the other two stayed with Shortkit and Lionkit. It was odd for Swampkit to go back to the nursery after two or three weeks of being in the medicine den, but his mothers welcomed him back with open arms.

Swamppaw and Lionpaw developed a playful rivalry with one another, working to beat each other during each hunting patrol and become a warrior before one another. Meanwhile, Shortpaw became a medicine cat under Pipershade. The three apprentices excelled in their training. He became close to Paintbrushpaw, even more so when it happened.

When Swamppaw was twelve moons old, he caught greencough again. His mothers spent plenty of their time in the medicine den with him. Lilypool caught the sickness and passed away only a few days later. Pipershade was convinced she was hiding the symptoms so she could continue to hunt for Swamppaw. Swamppaw felt at fault for his mother’s death and his greencough became worse with grief. Shortpaw wasn’t allowed to spend much time with his brother, nor were Columbinemouse and Laurelpuddle. Swamppaw felt another week or so in the medicine den before he was able to leave. Paintbrushpaw helped him through his grief and Lionpaw postponed her warrior ceremony until Swamppaw regained his strength.

A moon later, Swamppaw and Lionpaw were named Swampberry and Lionswimmer. That day, Columbinemouse was trapped under a snowdrift. Shortpaw and Pipershade tried their best to keep her alive, trying to keep her warm and breathing, but she died the next morning and Laurelpuddle died a week later from grief. Lionswimmer, Swampberry, and Shortpaw drifted after the loss of their mothers. Lionswimmer turned to Russetsnap, Shortpaw turned to his studies, and Swampberry began planning his and Paintbrushthroat’s unity, which would eventually be postponed after Paintbrushthroat’s mothers died.

Swampberry couldn’t help but ache as he waited for Paintbrushthroat to be ready for their ceremony. He needed something to be happy about. Then, he and Lionswimmer got her first apprentices, Potatopaw and Grousepaw respectively. It was a good distraction, and he got to train them beside Paintbrushthroat for a short while when he got Soappaw. He was still grieving, but it was easing with Paintbrushthroat and Potatopaw with him.

Paintbrushkit and his siblings grew up spoiled by the Clan for being the son of Hawkstar, the WolfClan leader, and Firecatcher, the WolfClan medicine cat. They were all given to WolfClan's finest warriors, and trained alongside Coyotepaw, the future leader of WolfClan.

Paintbrushpaw trained well under Dawnfall, and he and his siblings were Clan favorites, known by most every cat in the Eight Clans. He became close to Swamppaw and both of them dreamt of one day becoming one under StarClan and swearing to be each other's love. Once they became warriors, Swampberry and Paintbrushthroat, they got Hawkstar's blessing, and planned to have their ceremony in Spring, with Hawkstar as the one to bring them together.

However, during a freak accident while battling NorthClan for the Northern Hills, both his mothers died, and Paintbrushthroat became lost. He didn't want to continue the ceremony without his mothers. Swampberry understood, and they postponed their ceremony. Coyotepaw, now Coyotebite, became leader after his mother, and Paintbrushthroat became hollow with grief.

As the seasons went by, the daughter of the deputy, Cloverblossom, had kits, and Paintbrushthroat bonded with them almost immediately. The kits, Soapkit and Sapkit, only had one parent in Cloverblossom, and saw Swampberry and Paintbrushthroat as fathers. Paintbrushthroat was brought back to his old self because of the kits, and Swampberry was happy to see his mate this way again. It was no shock when Cloverblossom said she wanted Paintbrushthroat or Swampberry to mentor her kits. Soappaw was apprenticed to Paintbrushthroat, and Sappaw was apprenticed to Coyotestar for being the deputy's grandson

Paintbrushthroat didn't wait long after Sappaw and Soappaw were apprenticed to ask Swampberry to have kits with him. He isn't ready to become one with his mate now, but he knows he wants this. They asked Cloverblossom to foster their kits and she agreed. Swampberry promised that he will wait as long as Paintbrushthroat needs before they become one.
