SWBNO Pulls 370 Tons of Debris From Canal (Including Another Car)/Big Easy Magazine/Jenn Bentley On August 20, the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) discovered the underground canal at the intersection of the Lafitte Greenway and Jefferson Davis Parkway was clogged with debris, including an overturned car.

My hero retired.

Literally for as long as I can remember, my hero got up - hella early - to go work.

With great faithfulness, he started with a low-paying wage with the Sewerage & Water Board of New Orleans and worked his way up within the organization. That was until this past Friday, when after 25+ years, he decided to turn in his uniform on his 62nd birthday, leaving as a high-ranking supervisor. 

A huge luncheon was hosted in his honor with more than 100 attendees.

To send him off.

To crack a few jokes.

To say “thank you” to “a good dude” as he was described as by many. 

We have such a since of ownership when it comes to our heroes, as if said person is solely our own hero...at least that’s how I’ve viewed mine until this day.

I didn’t fathom that I shared my hero with so many...and to realize that on his last day at work only made the cape seem that much more grand. 

What a blessing to be there to witness as my hero hung up his professional cape. I’m just glad he will continue to wear his most important cape as a father to myself and my five siblings. 

Congratulations to my hero, my Dad.
