You heard footsteps all around you. You'd been running for as long as you cared to remember.

It was your life at that point.

In fact, the only way you'd still have a life was if you kept running.

Your lungs strained to get every ounce of biting, freezing air as you raced against blood through the snowy woods. You ran around trees, ducked under boughs and branches. You held on to the one thing you had left to fight for.

A baby, wrapped in your coat and your sweaters.

You ran, the wind and thorns lashing against your bare skin, red and raw with winter and woods' scorn.

Your ribs felt as though they were caving in. Your stomach was twisting into an empty knot. Your throat felt as though you'd swallowed a pint of coarse sand.

But it didn't matter.

None of it mattered since 1936.

You had a mission, and you would get it done, or you would die trying.

Your fighting spirit and determination was no match the simple fact that you were outgunned, and outnumbered.

The sounds of guns and boots circled around you.

Your heart stopped when you heard the words you'd heard too many times.

You looked down at the bundle in your arms. It was over... A tear streamed down your face as you looked at your mission unraveling.

Aldo eyed the coat in your arms, fearing you'd hidden a weapon in it, he ordered "Pertty lil jacket you got there missy." He saw a ragged, torn messenger bag around your shoulder. "Why don't you toss that and the bag on over here, easy like, and put your hands in the air up slow."

Aldo, and the rest of the basterds found it odd that in spite of the freezing winter, you weren't wearing your coat.

In fact, you were wearing boots that were not meant for the snow, overalls meant for an overheating factory, and a cardigan that could not shield you from the wind.

You froze...the impending reality of shots being fired was more frightening than ever, even if they weren't your enemies.

Aldo turned to the emerging basterds.

He reached out as you shivered in the cold, his hand grazed your side, and you flinched and grimaced a little. You clenched your teeth through the pain, and adjusted the bundle in his arms, helping the clueless basterd out a little.

Hugo raised his eyebrow and looked down at coat. He moved it aside a little, and looked down at a sleeping baby.

It was so tiny, it scared him. He looked up at you, "So? Mache ich es richtig? Wie halte ich es? Wo kann ich-"

"Well, whenever  a kraut gets this far, we make sure we're in the know. Ain't that right, boys?" Aldo was still unsure what to make of you. It was just a precaution on hearing your German accent. They'd chased you down, thinking you were a trap set by the nazis.

"I'm not a kraut." You clenched your teeth, trying to keep them from chattering, though the breath at your lips was practically ice.

"That's a German accent, aint it? Makes you a kraut, little lady. Makin' you an intruder on our terf."

"I'm Austrian."

Wicki smirked, as you managed to stutter through the cold, "But I'm not a nazi." You gulped, involuntarily raising your arm against your ribs, which made the basterds tense up. "I'm not a nazi, I'm not a spy, I'm not even a contact for either side of the war."

"No? So what are you, huh? Why're you all the way out here? Who are you?" The biggest basterd, the one you assumed was the one the Germans called the Bear Jew, stepped up.

"My name is Y/n. I'm 22 years old." Your eyes wandered over Omar and Hirschberg, who were still out of breath from the chase.

"I'm in my college's cross country team."

Hirschbeg nodded, after a strain for air, "Noted."

Smitty chuckled, "Haha...cross country... Get it?"

Omar rolled his eyes.

Aldo had noticed you flinched when Hugo took the baby from you. They realized you were 'underdresssed' because you'd wrapped the child in all the extra layers you had, making it highly possible you'd freeze to death if they hadn't found you first. Some of the boys had also noticed you gripping your side at that point.

"You hurt, little lady?"

You gritted your teeth, and lied, "No."

"We're soldiers. We know what hurt is. You ain't gone make it far if you go on like that. So I'm gon' ask you again. Are you hurt?"

"It's just a scratch. I can make it."

Aldo sighed, "Think of the kid."

"That's all I do." Your eyes grew misty and heavy...

Meanwhile, Hugo stood awkwardly holding the bundled up baby in his arms. His eyes widened when he saw the baby waking up.  Hugo looked up, "Scheisse. Ich meine ... Ah ..." The baby cooed up at him, and he looked around, "What do I do with it?!"

Donny narrowed his eyes, "Well first of all, don't call the kid 'it.' It's fucken demeaning."

Smitty sighed, "Well don't say fucken-I MEAN THAT WORD around it either!"

Donny rolled his eyes, "See you did it again!" Wicki shook his head and looked at Hugo in disapproval, "Herr, wirf Hirn vom Himmel..." Lord throw some brains from heaven...

Omar sighed, "Oh for the love of-"

The baby started to whimper, and cry. Hugo seemed to fall apart.... He had no idea what to do.

Hirschberg sighed, and marched through the snow grumbling, "Can scalp a goddamn nazi but don't know how to change a goddamn diaper, some men you are." as he impaled the butt of his gun into the snow.

Hirschberg was in his early twenties when he was drafted. When he left home, he had a daughter that was two years old, and another on the way...

He took the baby from Hugo, and started rocking it, cooing "What's the matter, soldier? Ya hungry? Y...Oh no...It's...It's the diaper."

Aldo ignored the chaotic babysitting, and stepped closer. Though you were trembling, you didn't look scared. You looked defeated, as if you'd been running for a lifetime. You didn't seem fazed by his sudden movement. You barely seemed to notice them anymore.

"Hey..."

Your knees buckled beneath you.

You were starved, sleepless, tired, and wounded. You felt yourself giving up, though your hope was still an ember, fighting against the winter dread.

Aldo caught you, and turned back to his men. "Omar!"

Omar immediately trudged through the snow, toward you.

Aldo murmured, "Fucking hell," as he pulled his jacket over you, as you shivered. He held on to you, and felt your temperature. "Fuck's sake, Y/n..." His heart broke.

You may not have been a soldier, but you sure as hell were a fighter.

He looked down at you. "Omar here's a medic, let him have a look, alright?"

You nodded slowly, and Aldo helped you unclasp one side of your overalls and saw the sweater you wore beneath it.

Blood was beginning to seep through.

Aldo held up the sweater a little, revealing a bloodied shirt, and layers and layers of gauze, with blood pooling through.

Aldo looked up at you, admiring your fighting spirit. But by then, he'd lost a few basterds. He knew sometimes that fighting spirit wasn't enough. He followed your eyes. Even as you slipped in and out of consciousness, you had your eyes set on the child, willing to give every last ounce of strength you had to protect it.

"You done a good job, Y/n. We'll take care of you 'n yours. Don't worry."

Your heavy eyes voyaged to the side. You breathed out shakily, your lips trembling as a pale shade of blue spilled over them, "Elias... His name is Elias..."

Aldo's heart broke as he held on to you. The love in your eyes melted the lieutenant, and he looked back at Omar.

"Keep her awake, sir, she's got hypothermia."

Aldo looked back to you, his hand wrapped around yours.  He felt your freezing cracked skin against his warm, calloused hand. He looked at you, wondering what your story was. Why you'd run from them for so long...

He talked to you, he asked you questions, he tried to keep you awake.

But your words became few and far between, slurred and soft.

His words seemed so muffled, like an echo in the alps.

The last thing you saw was Aldo Raine's blurred, worried face...

"Toulouse. Toulouse..." You mumbled until your eyes shot open. You didn't know where you were exactly. It looked like the inside of a tent...

You were in an army cot, in clothes that were not yours. You threw the covers off yourself, and shot to your feet. You grabbed onto your ribs, pressing against the shooting pain. The ground seemed to spin beneath you.

You felt strong hands at your shoulders, steadying you. "Come on, Y/n. Sit 'own kid. Rest."

You struggled against Aldo's protective grip, "Where is-" you groaned a little, as the pain knocked you back into the cot.

"Rest, it's alright."

"Where is-"

Aldo smiled softly, admiring your will power, and your love... "The kid's doin' fine. Hugo!"

Moments passed, and Hugo marched into the tent, holding onto the baby. The boys had washed sheets (which no one was quite sure how to do...though they figure it out eventually...) and wrapped the baby in them. They also found the baby's diapers and food in the torn bag you'd been carrying.

Hugo looked down at the kid. The boys joked about him being the softest basterd because he took care of the baby (until there was a diaper to change...because Hirschberg was the only one that could handle that). When they joked about it, though, Hugo scowled....

Still, he looked down at the baby in his arms for a moment with an inaudible sigh, and a genuine smile for an infinitesimal moment. If you'd blinked, you would have missed it...

In fact, no one else saw it happen...

But Hugo gave him back to you, not wanting to get any more attached than he already was...it just wasn't like him.

You smiled at Hugo, with a silent promise to keep the secret of his smile, "Dankeschön."

He forced a smile, and nodded politely, and left...

You looked down at Elias, pulling the sheet back a little as he looked up and giggled. It was like your soul returned to your body in that moment. You took a breath, and held him as if your life depended on it.

You looked back at Aldo, "How long's it been?"

"Three days. But you'll be here till you heal up, ya hear?"

You sighed, knowing you couldn't make it very far on your own. Not any time soon...

"Alright." You smirked a little, "Basterd."

"You heard of us?" Aldo smiled, genuinely intrigued as he looked at you.

"Who hasn't? You're Aldo the Apache, aren't you?"

He turned a little red, and nodded, holding his hat between his hands, "That's right, ma'am."

You smiled, though you looked away. Something about him made your heart skip a beat.

And something about you made his stop.

"Now, I gotta ask, Y/n. What the fuck happened? What were you runnin' from?"

"About ten yank troops chasing me through the forest."

He chuckled as he rolled his eyes, "Who the hell gave you that?" He gestured to your ribs.

"About ten krauts over on the alps. Bullet ricocheted."

"You made it down the alps and all the way down here with that bullet in your side?"

You nodded, as you looked down at Elias, then back at Aldo. "I had to."

Aldo nodded, and sat by you, "Where you takin' the kid? We can help you 'n your baby."

"Elias' isn't my son. He was my neighbor's son."

"Wh...Your neighbors? What the fuck's goin' on here?"

You sighed, and saw it all happening again...

"They were Jewish. The parents were taken away. I'd been his babysitter, and his older sister's since she was born... She's only six. He's not even a  year old. His mother asked me one last favor."

"Where's the girl?"

"Toulouse. I have to get Elias there. From there, a friend of mine will take him out of France with his sister to London. They have an aunt there who's waiting for them. "

"You took a bullet for them..."

You shrugged, "Anyone would. He's just a baby. The kids only have each other now."

"Not anyone would have done it." Aldo sighed, knowing you were too young to realize most of the world was not so noble and honorable.

You nodded again, "I suppose you're right... There's a reason this has to be done again."

"Again?"

You sighed, "I used to babysit all the children in my neighborhood. I've been helping the families escape."

In that moment, Aldo completely and fully fell for you. You had heart, not many people could say the same. And very few had one as big as yours.

He could see that.

He saw it in your perseverance. Your will.  Your eyes.

Your eyes...

He saw that same love looking back at him...

He pulled the covers back over you, "Get some rest, Y/n. Once you're better we'll take you 'n the kid to Toulouse." He walked to the entrance of the tent, leaving to get you something to eat.

"Thank you, Aldo."

He smiled when you said his name, though you didn't see.

Back outside, he gathered something for you to eat, and overheard the boys talking about you.

The past three days, they'd been coming up with possible theories and explanations about you.

The boys were at it again.

Wicki rolled his eyes, "That's ridiculous. If Y/n was a nazi, why was she running from Germany?!"

Smitty shook his head, "She wasn't running from Germany, she was running from us!"

Hirschberg groaned, "What the hell was she doin' all the way out here anyway?!"

Donny shrugged, "Ok. Maybe. Just maybe...Y/n is married to a nazi, and Elias is their kid, but she doesn't love the nazi cause he's a fucken nazi, so she ran away with the kid. That's why she was headin' for Toulouse, it's part of Free France, ain't it?"

Omar nodded, "Donny's got a point. What if her husband or boyfriend or whoever that asshole was, found out, and shot her? That's gotta be it."

Hirschberg rolled his eyes, "Ok but-"

Aldo sighed, and sniffed some tobacco, "We were all wrong."

"What?"

Aldo sat for a minute. "The kid isn't Y/n's kid. Y/n was the kid's babysitter. His parents are Jewish. They got taken away, and Y/n promised Elias' ma she'd take care of him, and his sister too. She got the sister to a friend in Toulouse. That's why she was runnin' there. From there, Y/n's friend is taking them to England, where the kids' have an aunt who's gonna take em in. Thing is, she was a babysitter for her whole neighborhood. She's been helping other families out too."

Omar shrugged, "Well shit...how 'bout that."

Hirschberg nodded, and sat back. "Huh...I like her..."

Aldo smiled softly and sighed, "Yeah. I do too, son."

Some time passed...

Every now and then, your name would come up in conversation, and Aldo would smile, wondering about you.

Hoping that you and the kids were safe.

Wishing you'd meet again.

He'd wait. Maybe there was a time and place for luck and love after the war.

He sighed as the boys marched through the forest to a small town called Nadine, where they'd meet a British soldier who would be assisting with one of, if not the most important missions of the war.

Operation Kino.

It was unlikely any of the basterds would survive. But he hoped for everyone, as much as it was worth...

And he still hoped for a chance to see you again.

As the boys stepped beyond the trees, they heard running footsteps.

They all raised their weapons, but Aldo chuckled, "At ease men."

He'd seen you in the distance.

You saw him...

He nodded at you once, and you smiled back.

"Bring anything our way, Y/n?"

"Left about ten krauts two kilometers that way on your trail, lieutenant. Figured I'd give you a headstart." You winked at him.

You'd just helped the last family over. It took years, but they were all safe.

Aldo smiled, he had an idea what was going on. He would've asked you to join the operation, but he knew it wasn't your mission.

And when he saw that look in your eyes, he understood.

You'd be waiting for him.

You saluted the basterds, and they saluted you as they marched out to Nadine.

You smiled softly, watching Aldo leave again... Something told you that there would be a place for luck and love after all... All that hope was worth it.

A/N Yall...I liked writing Hugo's scenes with the baby so much like ;-; anyway...I'm now working on a fic like that which will be up in a few days :)

Mike being subject to the hells of holiday shopping.

Just because they’re Jewish, doesn’t mean Mike gets to escape THE MALL AT CHRISTMAS TIME.

Because they’re not, like, that Jewish.  (Mike in particular doesn’t really know what he believes or doesn’t on that front, and is in no hurry to figure it out because it’s boring.)  Like they still decorate the house and everything, Santa just isn’t present  His mom puts up lights and stuff, though.  Ethel is not willing to be the owner of the only house on the street that’s dark this time of year.  People would notice.  Normalton would talk (more than they already do).  And they always have a tree.  Ethel can call it a Hanukkah bush, and dress it in as much silver and blue as she wants, but Mike knows a Christmas tree when he sees one.

And Hanukkah is basically as commercialized as Christmas now, anyway.  Nobody gets a dreidel anymore.  It’s the twenty-first century: little Jewish boys get video games.  Little Jewish girls get…well, Mike doesn’t know.  Whatever lame stuff girls like.  Hair…bows?

So Ethel has to shop for that.  And Ethel needs to shop for her co-workers.  And Ethel needs to festively decorate her classroom.

Mike doesn’t like to go…anywhere, if he doesn’t have to, but especially to the mall.  Doesn’t get the appeal.  Don’t all the other Youths know about Amazon Prime?  The mall is crowded, and the lighting is terrible, and it all smells like old lady perfume, McDonald’s fries, and the kind of cleaning products janitors use after somebody throws up.  The mall is not cool and no one should hang there, and Mike would usually refuse to go.

Except.

The electronics stores and gaming stores have deals this time of year.  Sometimes stuff you can’t even get online until way after the release date or from a re-seller, and Mike Teavee doesn’t do waiting or getting ripped off, and Ethel is easily flustered by any technology that was invented after the stone age.  If he doesn’t go with her, and tell her what to get, there’s a good chance he’ll end up with an R.B.I. Baseball game or something equally as sports-y.  (His mom has actual favorite sports-ball teams and everything.  It’s so embarrassing.) 

So.  He goes.  (More accurately: allows himself to be dragged.)

It’s the worst, always.  (And Mike is a boy who has been to a deadly chocolate factory: he would know.)  Almost not worth it.   

The crush of strangers in his personal space.

The pushy sales people.

Ethel’s yearly insistence that he needs a ‘smart’ holiday outfit, even though he never has, and is never going to be invited anywhere where a ‘smart’ outfit would be necessary.  He’s thirteen: he will not be attending any office holiday parties.  They are not invited to any family get-togethers.  He will roll out of bed every morning (or…afternoon…) in December, same as the…whatever time the day before, and Ethel should count herself lucky if he changes out of his pajamas. 

Nevertheless: she persists.

She only has herself to blame.

“I hope you’re happy,” she mutters.

He is, pretty much.

They are standing in the parking lot outside of Target, along with everyone else who was, until just recently, trying to shop in Target, and also all of the Target employees.  It’s not hard to send a false alarm to the local fire department, but it is (Mike thinks) satisfying.    

Ethel drags him away before anyone can start pointing fingers.

She doesn’t say a word the whole ride home.  Which isn’t a problem, as far as Mike is concerned.

Back at the house, she heads straight for her room and shuts the door.  That’s Mike’s patented move, so he’s a little miffed she has tried to swipe it.  Also that he has to carry everything they’ve bought in, because she has forgotten and their bags are all mixed together.  He’s not doll-sized anymore, but he’s still small for his age, and Ethel has bought a lot.

She doesn’t have anything to say the next evening at dinner either.  Again: this is fine.

By day three he gets it: this is the silent treatment.  But Mike sometimes goes for weeks without speaking to another living person.

Except.

He doesn’t.  Ethel has always been there.  He just doesn’t think about her like that.  Like: another living person.  She’s a mom.  She’s like…the kitchen table.  The weird stain on the bathroom wall.  He would only notice if she wasn’t there…

And she isn’t suddenly.  She’s there, physically, in the house, but she doesn’t…try.  Even when he was eight inches tall and biting her, she was never like this.

(When he was eight inches tall and everything was so big, so frightening, so hard, so wrong, and she had done everything, just like she had threatened at Wonka’s, only it hadn’t been a threat at all: it had been a promise.)

Being shrunk is a distant memory now, even though it wasn’t actually that long ago.  Mike is his horrible self again.

Ethel is not, and by the end of the week, Mike has had it.  So he does something about it.  

It’s closer to Christmas, so the mall is even more crowded this time.  People don’t pay attention to small boys, no matter how big their hair is, and Mike ends up getting pushed and elbowed more than once.  There is also a family in matching Christmas sweaters that seems to be everywhere and it takes all of his strength not to turn and run.  Puke, then turn and run.

But Mike is a stubborn boy.  He gets it from his mother.   

She’s getting the menorah set up for night one, when he places the package on the table next to her and plunks down in a chair.

“What’s this?” She asks, suspiciously, finally breaking her silence.

“Hanukkah,” he tells her.

She hesitantly unwraps the box.  There is a lot of tape to get through.  Mike is not a good wrapper.

Inside the box are…eight sweaters.  They aren’t Ethel’s style: plain, dark colored pull-overs.  Ethel likes bright colors.  Ethel wears cardigans.  Mike knows this.

“I suppose,” she says, holding up the top-most sweater (that is obviously too small for her), “it’s the thought that-…”

She trails off because Mike has moved to stand behind the sweater, and he can actually see the moment when she realizes who it is not too small for.

“OH,” she says.  And then: “Oh.”

And he thinks she might cry.

“Oh, Mikey,” she exclaims, wrapping her arms around him.  He wriggles in her clutches.

“Mo-om,” he whines, until she releases him. 

“Right,” she says.  She hands him the sweater.  He retreats to his room.  He returns shortly, wearing the sweater over a plaid button down shirt.  He is still wearing jeans and sneakers, because there is only so far that he will go.  Ethel gazes at him adoringly.  She moves to swoop in and squeeze him again.

“Hey!” He barks.  “Don’t push it.”

She pats him very gently on the shoulder instead.

He lets her.

It’s Hanukkah, after all.

anna likes dressing up a lot, so she takes any opportunity to dress a little nicer. however, her typical waredrobe for the seasons are as followed: summer, bright colors like hot pink and yellow, flowy shirts, short shorts, sandals ; fall, dark green and burnt orange, sweaters, printed leggings, ankle booties ; winter, navy blue, heavy jeans, uggs and snowboots ; spring, pastel pink and green, floral patterns, light cardigans, flowing skirts, rainboots. as for make-up, she’s not the most skilled or creative, so she keeps it simple. hair-wise, it’s nothing more than some leave in conditioner and maybe something to tame the wild frizz.

tara eats like a monster. literally she orders whatever she has a coupon for and can buy the most for the least amount of money. this tends to be stuff like noodles or true garbage fast food deals.

10. how’s their internet usage?  what sites, how much, how good at they at identifying scams?

tara is terrible and does not know how to use it, like almost at all. she was very late to the game and only really got her hands on it after like 17 years. she doesn’t really care, though. she knows how to search up best / worst fail compilations on youtube and that’s all she needs it for... oh, and i guess schoolwork too... as for scams, she doesn’t trust the internet as a whole, so she doesn’t usually fall victim.

general preppy stores, like j. crew or madewell or sections in the department store like ralph lauren or tommy hillfiger. however, she often opts for what’s on clearance / sale, if not going to the entire factory / outlet store. if there were no restraints, she’d probably just go for the full price stuff, maybe step it up to burberry or kate spade.

15. what’s their five-year-plan in the modern verse, and what are they wildest dreams for the next five years, regardless if they find them plausible or not?

oh boy does kath have a five year plan... without going into too much detail, she expects to make it pass editor in less than a year. she start as reporter for local news. within 3 years, she is writing well crafted pieces and breaking news that will be picked up by major, national news stations. by the end of the five years, she will be at the top of her game, thriving... perhaps that’s also her dream, but ideally she would like to break the news on some major civil rights and / or humanities issues.

It’s Not Just a Phase, Mom!

It's no surprise that when someone mentions the word ‘grunge’, we immediately think of the rebellious era that defines a generation of teens who had no intentions of pleasing their parents. The instant flashbacks of the 90s top trends, hit our nostalgic bone,with both good and bad intentions. 

Just like that drunk at a party, he can be fun and amusing at first, but after a while it gets kind of old and repetitive, making you want to flea the scene and leave that whole night behind. Only to wake up that next morning and starting off the day with a hot cup coffee to last night's’ highlights, with a caramel enriched eerie flash back, followed by a fluster of cringe filled espresso shots, topped with self-esteem driven whip cream. Only to realize, that drunk was you. With  memories like these, we all looked back to our youth, no matter what age, and recall those “glory” days that we swear defined our entire existence. Giving ourselves the credibility we desire from our “alike” pears and establish a foundation of questionable memorabilia that only those of the “elite” can comprehend. More or less like an insider joke that only you and your friends can understand and one else, except the joke is your life and you have no friends. Nahhh I kid. This is how the grunge era is viewed. It reminds us of the songs and trends that we look back and question ourselves “why did we do this”, but after the nestalgia that fills our conscious, we couldn't imagine a better way to express ourselves. So, we are left with a warm comforting feeling of pride that we have created and convoluted something complex that has left an unforgettable impression on the world. The 90’s left us with a nostalgia that is “dream like”, the music, the bands, the cloths, the mindset is something we all admired.

The 90s brought so many different fashion trends that send a goosebumps shivering down your spine. From its mod rings, endless supply of various striped and turtleneck sweaters, long hair, Rocawear, bleached hair, flat top, Discman, Pagers, sweaters/flannel long sleeves tied to your waist, and many more. But can we please bring back the slap bracelets? You can keep the baggy jeans and boy bands, just let me wear my collection in peace without getting judged. Even though all of these were “all the rage” back then, nothing can compare to the grunge look that swept the nation by surprise.

We can all agree that the four top bands (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains) defined an entire era of this grunge movement and trend. For example, a lot of people already know that Kurt Cobain was the fanista of this grunge overall look. With the iconic old ripped denim jeans, beat up Converse Chuck Taylors, flannel tacky button up shirt on a vintage tee, or probably grandma’s dirty laundry cardigan to tie it all together. This outfit was one of history’s most recognizable looks. Pearl Jam’s main vocalist, Eddie Vedder also brought a similar style, only difference is his comprised of slim fit shorts, knee high sock that were compressed down, and to top it all off, Black combat boots that show off that inner edge, just like in his concert music video Even Flow. I for one, personally like the way Green Day portrayed the 90s with their angry filled style and music about the hardships of the miserable teenage life. Even though, there fashion was a bit questionable for me, the music video When I Come Around was the main reason I ever wore a wallet chain. Also, the small hooped earrings that most punk teen wore, I still personally think Billie Joe rock it better.

The alternative rock/Britpop/Seattle sound phase that took place during its highest popularity in the 90s, was a perfect time for its mass media production. Although many other fashion trends were in style, none of them could really could compete with this timeless look. The grunge look just had a fashionable look and image that can still be rocked today. The fact that you could dress up as Kurt Cobain, Rivers Cuomo, Billie Joe, Eddie Vedder, or any member of Alice in Chains, Oasis, Foo Fighter, Nine Inch Nails, and many more, says a lot about the styles’ credibility and reputation it has with today's fashion trends. You can don’t ever find people trying to bring back manpris, Skechers,Skidz and zubas, British Knights or Lugz. Yes, there are some fashion trends that were trying to come back that weren't from the alternative rock phase, like the flat top, overalls with one strap down, one pant leg rolled up, bandanas, Rayon shirts, Fila, bucket hats, baggy jeans, Coogi, starter jackets, fanny packs, choker necklaces- complex even more that were not mentioned. None of them really ever made a complete comeback, except maybe the the bucket hat “Rachel haircut and possibly the choker, other than these, the main reason these never made a full comeback was because of the support of the masses or the right people trying to bring these back. Without the proper support, you would have to be pretty ballsy to try pull one of these here. That's why the grunge look was so easy to transition to the modern age, it was simple, cheap (most of the time), and it was supported by many people and artist to this very day. It may have changed a little over time to fit modern trends, but who’s to say I can't go to a local Goodwill, Ross, Burlington Coat Factory, or walmart  and give myself that indie look that I still see people rocking loud an proud.

With many new trends popping out of nowhere, each era brings new memories that keep the new generations battling for recognition and self bragging rights. This never ending scoundrel will define the way future generations view our culture and will set a foundation to the next latest and greatest trends to hit our interwebs. I may not be a genie nor a fortune cookie, but one thing is certain, the grunge, persona, fashion, and music will go down in history for many more to enjoy. This lax, delinquent, punk, “I swear it's not a phase mom” lifestyle will always live within the hearts of those who have that rebellious attitude, even way after mindset and attitude change to “fit” our age.

My wardrobe is full of classic and timeless pieces. But I can’t pare down. I just can’t!

Reading her two posts about the capsule wardrobe got me to thinking.  Should I pare down to a capsule wardrobe?  Hmmmmmmm.

Well, SHOULD I????

And for me, the answer is that I probably should pare down to this minimalist wardrobe, but I don’t want to.  I love the clothing that I have.  Many of the items, I’ve had for years.  I try to do a seasonal weeding and place summer clothing in plastic bins during the winter and vice versa for the summer. But the way the heat index is still at an all-time high, it looks like my summer clothing will be sticking around for a while.

But as much as the thought of a capsule wardrobe is enticing, I like to think of myself as a person with Capsule Brands. It’s true. I’m loyal like a dog.

It’s true. I’m loyal like Chippy. He’s into my clothes too. When I was taking a photo of my tee shirts, he tried to eat one of them.

These are the brands that I can trust.  They are the brand items that I will have for years.  I just about rely on these brands because of the quality, the construction, the feel, the fit and they never fail me. I’m a minimalist when it comes to brands. I  have few.

Let’s have a look at the brands and what I love about them.

J. Crew. Ain’t gonna lie. I love J. Crew and J. Crew Factory.  In my opinion, both are interchangeable. Sometimes I can find better quality at Factory while most times, J. Crew is the place to shop.   Ordering clothing online is no issue either because the shipping is quick.  The online customer service is freakin’ stellar!!

May I present the latest addition to my J. Crew blazer collection?  The Double-breasted Dover.  It is such a rich, intense dark navy that it can look black. The lining is beautiful. Striped and almost looks like a club tie.  I love the collar popped (Hey. I was in my 20’s during the Eighties. OK?) A bit longer in length and less fitted than the Schoolboy,  it will look stunning both on job interviews and for casual wear.  It’s a winna!!!

The Schoolboy blazers—God knows I have more than enough of them, are my winter staple. If I want to make a pair of jeans look polished, the Schoolboy is worn with them.  And—even though J. Crew discontinued (the story of my life) the Schoolboy, another version that is just as good, if not better is available at J. Crew Factory.

Two blazers in this photo are NOT schoolboys. One is the chambray with the ruffles. The other is the wool camel Regent blazer.  All others are either from J. Crew or J. Crew Factory. And there’s more!

  Other Jackets—the Lady Jackets are a dressier option, but boy—Crew’s blazers and jackets have always been top quality for me.

  What a difference a new phone makes–huh? This black Lady Jacket from J. Crew is another favorite-I’ll have to get a better photo with my new phone at some point!

Rather than pare down, I build up.

99.9 percent of my sweaters are from either J. Crew or J. Crew Factory.  It’s to the point that I’m just not comfortable in any other brand. Call me crazy—but I know what I like when it comes to sweaters and I feel J. Crew knows me.

Same with skirts. I am in love with the Number 2 pencil skirt. Timeless and always looks good.

Now—that’s not to say that everything from J. Crew is perfect for me.  I have an issue with Crew’s jeans.  For some weird reason, the brand’s jeans just do not fit me well.  The rise is either too low or, if higher, just looks odd on me.

No big deal because after years and years of searching for the perfect fitting jeans, I found them last year at Nordstrom Rack. AG Jeans.  Yes. They are on the pricey side but at Nordstrom Rack, the brand can be found for a fraction of the price.  I’ve also discovered 1822 Denim Jeans which I purchased at Marshalls but are also available at Nordstrom Rack.

I was introduced to AG Jeans last year at Nordstrom Rack and I now have five pairs. I LOVE this brand!

The fit. The different washes.  The cut. These are perfect for a curvier shape and AG’s jeans hold their shape after a long day of wear!

It so wonderful when you find that brand of jeans that fit so well!

Can I just say that I’m also very loyal to Old Navy for their tee shirts? The Old Navy Fitted Tee is one of my very prized basic possessions.  Might I add that I have a penchant for the white crew neck fitted tee?  I am telling you that this tee is everything and a bag of chips! I’ve written about this tee many times. In fact, I was so upset when ON discontinued this shirt I wrote to them and now it’s back—even if it is only back online!

I kid you not. This is just a small number of the fitted white tees from Old Navy. I hoard them. Notice the ones that still have the tags on them. The need to be ironed.  And when these tees get old and stained and wonky looking, I rip them and use them as dust cloths. Multi-taskers these shirts be!  See Chippy’s paws at the top of the photo. He was ready to snack on some cotton!

Word to the wise—for a truly fitted look, order a size down.  I size down from a Medium t a Small and the fit is so beautiful under a blazer or cardigan sweater.   This tee is currently selling for $8.00 on the Old Navy site but watch for sales when you can get the shirt for five bucks.  You’re welcome!

Old Navy’s Tee Shirt dresses are another item I have plenty of.  And their jersey swing dresses– I’m telling you when Old Navy has a winner—they hit gold!

My most-worn dress this summer.  I’m still wearing it.  Ten bucks at Old Navy. I went back and bought four more!

Shoes are another item that I’m brand loyal with certain styles.  You are all well-aware of my love for Rondini for sandals.  Even if I don’t make it to St. Tropez, I can order this brand online because I have the measurements for the custom-made fit.  Honestly, these sandals are the best value for the money.

Check out how well these mold to my feet. I stand with my weight toward the inside of my legs you can tell from the sandals. OMG. I love my Rondini sandals so much.  My Capsule brand for sandals.  My ONLY brand for sandals.

The cost? Comparable with name-brand sandals you can find at higher-end department stores. But the difference is that the sandals are custom fit and made. All leather and they wear beautifully. The sandals mold to your feet and they wear better with age.  It’s become a tradition for me to treat my feet to a pair each summer.

Repetto is another brand I’m loyal to because the ballet flats fit my narrow feet beautifully.  I have three pairs of Repetto’s and am in the market for a new pair, preferably in navy.  These shoes wear well and I only purchase them if I happen to be in Paris during the winter or summer sales because the discount is deep!

Repetto is another favorite brand!  Perfect for my narrow feet, they make my foot look pretty!

Loafers anyone?  The only brand of loafer I will put on my feet is Bass Weejuns. Don’t even try to get me into another brand because I won’t do it.  I’ve been wearing Weejuns since my days at St. Patrick Grammar School. That’s a lotta years.  I love my Weejuns!

My beloved Weejuns. I still lean toward the old, worn, pair to the left!!!!  It would be a sin if I wore any other brand loafer!

I’m not brand loyal, nor is any one heel within the confines of my Capsule brands.  I think it’s because the right heel is so hard to find.

I stick to what works—even with heels!

I did have a brand of heel that I was somewhat loyal to. It’s because the heels had the perfect pointy toe. The perfect height of the heel. And beautiful toe cleavage. The brand…Ivanka Trump.  Hey. I know, I know. I have no idea if her shoes are still sold because everyone knows how I feel about her daddy.   If her shoes are still sold, I would never purchase another pair.  But, I spent good money on the shoes that I do have, so I’ll just wear them until they fall apart—much like…. um.umm. I’m gonna be good.

There are two brands of bag that I’m encapsulating.  Longchamp and Nat & Nin.    I’m especially fond of the leather Longchamp bags because, like Nat & Nin, the bags are soft and pliable. I love me a buttery soft bag.  If you are in Paris, you can make a stop at Sophie Sacs on Rue du Rennes where Nat & Nin bags are sold at a discounted price, or you can visit the Nat & Nin boutique on Boulevard Beaumarchais.

Leather Longchamp bags.  All but one were purchased at deep discount.  The red one was a birthday gift from Bonaparte!

Left side:  Longchamp’s Le Pliage. This brown bag is so worn and so old but I can’t stop using it. I love the color and when we are away, it doubles as a beach bag.  Multitasker!  To the right is the Planetes tote also by Longchamp. This bag is filthy!  I love the orange and I use it mostly in the fall and spring.  I’ve lent this out to friends and co-workers because everyone just loves that color!

I haven’t used this travel bag yet, but I got it at CDG this past summer on sale. I can’t wait to use it. It’ll hold a house for cryin’ out loud!

Remember this deal I got?  The cream-colored Longchamp weekender at CDG for 43 euros?  I’ve gotten more than my money’s worth with use!

My nat & nin bags. Yes. I have three of the same kind in different colors. These bags are like butta.  And they are unstructured which is what I like!

One of our friends and readers, Lidia, was in Paris and sent me an email about Groom Paris bags.  I swooned.  I. Literally. Swooned.  There are some strong feelings stirring inside me because I know that if I get my hands on one of these bags, they will be a part of my Capsule Brands.  I had a dream about their website last night. Who does that???????  I do.

This. Bag.  I. Covet.  And I did not know this brand is sold in five stores in the USA. In Florida, San Francisco, DC, and Oregon. Oregon?????? 

So, I may be a few miles short of a capsule wardrobe, but these are my capsule brands.  And note—I am not sponsored by any of these brands.  There is no click and bait.  These are brands that I love and trust and I also buy EVERYTHING on sale!

Brand love.  J. Crew Factory blazer. J. Crew Tippi Sweater. Gap (not AG) jeans and Bass Weejuns.  There’s not much going out of my comfort zone here!

J. Crew has sales all the time and so does Old Navy. You can usually get a good deal on some of the Longchamp leather bags during Nordstrom Anniversary Sale—but my favorite leather Longchamp bag was purchased at Nordstrom Rack. You gotta search!  In addition, I’ve gotten great deals on Longchamp travel bags at CDG airport in Paris.  Same with Repetto.

Rondini never goes on sale—but it’s fine because the price for the custom fit is everything—and Rondini’s staff is incredibly knowledgeable, helpful and nice!
