there were things i didn’t like about Eurovision this year, like using that riff (is that even the right word?) from tattoo in the intro to each country’s entry, and loreen’s performance of tattoo (didn’t like the remix), oh, and israel getting way more points than they deserved (do you guys even really know what a hurricane is?) but this year moved me, man.

the show started out with a wonderful surprise: blue swede singing hooked on a feeling! i felt such a rush of emotion, and i was instantly transported to the back seat of the van my family had when i was ten, bopping to my dad’s suddenly 70s cd (god i loved that cd). it was so nice singing along!

up until this past monday, i was under the impression that blue swede was a band, but it’s just one guy who says he’s blue! wow!

and then, oh man, later we got crying at the discotheque by alcazar, and it was like being a teen again and delving deep into the world of swedepop, ugh, so excellent. and conchita wurst, charlotte perelli, and carola all singing waterloo together…!

then there was that touching moment when bambi thug gave nemo her creepy goth crown as a congratulatory gift, and them wearing it to accept the prize. i don’t think they performed wearing it, but they held it through the performance.

it was so cool to witness esc’s first nonbinary win, man. so good.

I think you should all listen to If Neil Tennant Was My Lover by Le Sport because @nervousmiracle and I have been talking about Pet Shop Boys, West End Girls (the PSB cover group, not the original song!) and he brought up t.A.Tu.

so… like… to complete  the circle of gay pop, fake gay pop, Swedepop, and Pet Shop Boys, I think we should end with a duo of Swedish boys who are gay singing about their love for Neil Tennant. Awesome, no?
