Potential Candidates for a MALE Elden Ring Romance Questline:

The two canonical romances available are towards women - Marika, and Ranni. In fact, the impetus of becoming Elden Lord means you're becoming Marika's consort. Plus, we have Fia, who we don't get to marry, but she offers this intimate relationship in the form of G-rated hugs. And the player is a little shoehorned into developing heavily-implied-to-be romantic feelings for Melina.

There's no explicit romance (or romance-adjacent relationships) from any of the male characters. Makes me feel a bit alienated, to be honest. Like FromSoftware is playing towards this very specific demographic.

If Elden Ring had a male 'romance questline', who would be your choice?

As of right now, White Mask Varre is probably the closest source of romantic energy we get from a male character. He's dressed in white complete with a head veil, he fights with a bouquet of roses, you first meet this guy in his pseudo-bride getup when he says you're missing a maiden, his animation of giving you the Bloody Finger is reminiscent of putting a ring on it, and he gives you a sickly sweet pet name. He's kinda like an officious parody of marriage, especially considering he's trying to stray you from the path of becoming Marika's consort. Like he's saying, "marry me instead. Join the Blood Dynasty."

Morgott The Omen King is a popular romantic choice amongst the creative fandom. Maybe even the most popular, going by the tags. Weird? Not really; he may not be conventionally attractive beyond perhaps a passing aristocratic image, but he's a tragic anti-hero with a buttery voice. He reoccurs and gives the player so much lore and context, he's the closest we have to an actual nemesis. That's prime material for a relationship with deep chemistry, folks. Plus, marrying him would potentially serve the same purpose as marrying Ranni - Morgott supplants Marika as God, and you become Elden Lord through marrying him. Or, alternatively, (as more than one artist/writer has conceptualized), YOU'D become God/ess and he Elden Lord.

Marrying Radagon probably wouldn't be that different from become Marika's consort. We still don't know the exact nature of Marika/Radagon's dual identity, but it goes to show that in-game Radagon is the current Elden Lord 'cause of his marriage, so he's your rival. We defeat him but not Marika, somehow. Well, what if it was the other way around?

Godwyn The Golden is. You know. A gross undead corpse, and Fia doesn't so much literally 'lay with' Godwyn so much as symbolically conceive a Mending rune through her freaky necro magic. And a big part of Elden Ring's lore is how golden boy Godwyn, 100% approval rate Godwyn, is dead through unjust murder. So somehow bringing Godwyn back to life would undermine a lot of the necessary tragedy of Elden Ring. Still, would it be completely out of line to take Fia's place as Godwyn's 'consort'?

Adult Miquella is another choice I see bouncing around. Come our first DLC, we see Miquella free from Mohg's cocoon and he's finally a grown man, maybe monstrously merged with some freaky moth-like features par the cocoon and Haligtree imagery. Fans of Berserk have noticed some similarities between Miquella and a certain evil god that specializes in cultivating adoration for his own kingdom. Other fans have said that Miquella was a child not just in body, but in mind as well, hence the huge treehouse where all his friends can live, a branch that makes people like him, and being overly generous towards everyone, from his sister, to his lowest soldiers. An adult Miquella with a suddenly adult brain could spell disaster. An adult Miquella who's been manipulative all this while could be even worse.

As far as the various male NPCs go, more than a couple are easy on the eyes. Rogier, D, Yura, Diallos, Blaidd, to name the more popular ones. But marriage/romance in FromSoftware games are always driven by the lore, and not by player whim. If we were to choose a male NPC along the lines of FromSoftware's previous marriage questlines, then Shabriri is the likeliest candidate. Like a consort questline alongside the Frenzied Flame ending. He even plays upon a player's supposed attachment to our Melina, so he's got a tentative hand in romantic ties. As dangerous as he is, I kinda like the idea of an immortal husband that can take the form of anybody.

Bonus: a comment on reddit brought to my attention the DILF Bernahl, whose lines can very easily be read as romantic. “The way he says ‘You... what in heavens name are you doing here?" when you first talk to him in the Volcano Manor. Could almost pass as him being somewhat protective and telling you should think very clearly about what you're doing there.” You invade two NPC with him as a cute first date. He says this upon completing his contract; "Let us thread the path of the recusant together. Till we reach the miserable death that awaits us." In the world of Elden Ring, this is the equivalent of standing outside a window blasting NSYNC.

Them as the Best Man - Dawn Faction

I mean them being the Best Man at a wedding... although they are the best ayakashi men. Seriously, we all can easily fantasize them as our husbandos, how come we haven’t planned the best-man? 

Also, I’m going to do Aoi and Yura here because... confession time? I really want to practice Yura. His speaking manner is hard for me. Even if he turns out super OCC here.

Koga Kitamikado

Kuya is both glad and mad. On one hand, you will be spoilt to death. Man doesn’t spare any expense.

Will probably help invite EVERYONE in the Capital, but only if you want to. 

Helps arrange wedding accommodations for out-of-town groomsmen.

Brings in several bottles of sake but NOT only if you want to...

Ok but really, if you don’t want it, don’t worry... he and Ginnojo will drink it all. 

He is a respectful ayakashi and is more like the BFF to Bridezilla should she ever appear. 

So why is Kuya mad? 

Somehow, the best man is spending more time with his bride than the actual groom: asking questions about the ceremony to the bride, clarifying every minute detail and even meeting with her father.

I mean sure, the groom might have been lost in the whole wedding planning ordeal. But he was hoping to be lost with his buddy, yeesh. 

“You have no idea how to tie a bow-tie, do you?”

“... Too tired.”

“Done.”

“... Thanks.”

“Well, it’ll be embarrassing if the groom was without a tie-”

“... Really thanks.”

He cries the most.

Kuya

The only time you ever see him moving this much, honestly.

Koga wonders if you guys should get renew your vows and the ceremony every once in a while just to see the tengu moving.

Kuya blows him away so far that you now have to do a destination wedding.

He does help fly you to the reception though so that you don’t trip over anything in your dress.

Talks so softly to Masanobu the ring-bearer about Big Bro Koga getting his sweetheart.

For once, you get to hear his writing in his best-man speech!

“Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet and so is the cavity-inducing wedding for him and you. Good luck, MC.”

Ok, but really. There’s something about his retellings of the young oni and his friends that makes everyone ugly-cry.

He definitely exploited the best moments and sweetly described each cherished memory in a poetic way only a best friend and author could.

He falls asleep with the ring pillow after the whole ordeal is over.

Aoi

OMG, bless him.

I can actually see him being selected by various men but most likely for Ginnojo and/or Oji.

Heck, I  would choose him to be my man of honour honestly.

This man can transform any venue. It helps that he has an artist’s eye and doesn’t do things halfway. Yet, he somehow stays within the budget.

I swear, don’t be surprised if your wedding is featured for the best decor.

Catch him DIY-ing the table décor and hand-lettering the invitations. 

This ayakashi is the kind that would die over whatever you find valuable because he will help protect your treasures.

His patience over managing details is... probably going to get better... just not necessarily during the whole planning stage. 

He does manage in his speech to thank the rest of the groomsmen and avoid sassing that one particular maid of honour who looks like she just woke up.

He and Oji would probably cook unless Oji is the one getting married or just on his 5-minute break on Mars. 

Pray that he doesn’t find Kuya slacking. 

Ginnojo

Wow, Kuro is becoming a husband? 

Well, we know who is probably part of the wedding disguised as a trapeze performance. 

No, but really, no matter who is the husband/wife/persongettingmarried-to-be, he will do anything they ask. 

He even offers his store as a wedding venue for those couples who really love books.

He is 54 years old though, so be patient. Still learning all the new Taisho wedding customs.

Guards the wedding rings with his life. Stabs anyone who even tries to look at them until the day of the ceremony itself.

Dude even buys a special fountain pen that would be a worthy companion long after the ink on the marriage certificate has dried

... If only he didn’t use it just for signing as the witness to the ceremony.

His speech... is admittedly quite bad. 

But you can bet he is probably going to be the only one cool as water to solve any problem... which we all know will happen.

Yura

Well, brother-in-law is more than happy to help. 

Only, this will be Shinto wedding so there’s not really a best man except during that part in the vows where they have to thank a beloved friend/family member.

But he runs the whole show.

Treats everything for the wedding decor (if any) with the utmost respect. After all, things that were loved and cared for have a soul and will remember any form of love shown to them.

Also, this means he can start having fellow Tsukumo-gami nephews and nieces.

“Why, salutations to thy fellow brethren the tablecloth. What fine lace thou possess. Almost as fine as the soul you shall possess. Remember, your best uncle is Uncle Yura...”

Brings all the woodland creatures with him to the Shrine of the Hidden God, and probably has more princess moments than the bride.

Leaves herbs rich with powers of healing at the ceremonial wedding altar in hopes of blessing his brother and sister/brother/sibling-in-law. Wormwood, adlay, honeysuckle and more. 

Gets ordained to wed Gaku and MC as well for the whole Shinto style.

Somehow procures a whole spicy buffet with fancy fine china AND without giving in to the urge of topping everything with jelly.

For some reason, there is the obscure corner with some saccharine, milky and inescapable smell though.

Bonus: He plays his flute from a distance but Gaku can still hear him when the MC leads him to the aforementioned sweet corner.
