Chapter 2: Sandman. ⁂⁂⁂⁂⁂⁂⁂⁂
Tuesday, same day, a few minutes after the President's speech. You were walking through a tunnel to get to their ship. It was green and glowing, and it made a noise unlike anything you would consider human.
Walking out of the Ground Bridge, as they called it, you found yourself facing what was probably the most imposing living creature you had ever seen: he was blue and gray, with two towers on his shoulders and a particularly protruding chest. He didn't look very aerodynamic.
You were so lost in looking at the giant that you didn't notice the second building that was coming towards you. He was orange and yellow, but his frame was different from the oversized Smurf's.
This one might have been at least twice your height, but he had a smile plastered on his face, and he was holding out his hand, waiting for you to shake it.
Almost startled, you held out your hand, and he shook it carefully; he certainly didn't want to crush your bones, yet, on the first meeting. It was right to give him time.
Realizing that you did have to say something, not wanting to remain silent, you managed to blurt out your name and surname, remembering to enunciate your words well and speak out loud, as they had recommended before leaving. You still didn't even know if they understood your language or not.
"Rodimus, the Lost Light's Captain. It's a pleasure to meet you, (name)," he replied immediately and released your hand. "Pleasure's mine," you said, hinting at a smile.
"This," he continued, addressing the smurf and turning to him, "is my first officer, Ultra Magnus." The latter didn't smile, but nodded, muttering out a "pleasure." Rodimus continued and introduced three more important members of the crew, with equally unique names: Drift, a rehabilitated Decepticon (according to the captain), Ring, the shrink (of course Rodimus hadn't called him that, but the connection in your head was immediate), and Ratchet, the ship's head medic.
They all seemed very friendly, although perhaps the smurf a little less so, but despite that, your shoulders remained stiff. You couldn't trust them already.
After closing the Ground Bridge, Ultra Magnus started talking, while you, he, and Ratchet were heading towards the Medbay, affirming that in the next few weeks, you would be attending some meetings, where you would be studying their history and customs. Good. You couldn't wait to get back to studying.
Then you had to endure a second explanation about the trial period, which you had already heard, but which you listened to again, not having the guts so as not to interrupt good Magnus.
"You will remain onboard for two months, human time. During these two months, I will teach you Cybertron's history and our customs and traditions, our religion and the purpose of our mission. You will make a weekly report that will be sent to Earth, monitoring your experience. At the end of this period, unless you decide to block the experience, you will be presented with a choice that is to remain here for an indefinite time or to return to Earth. The regulations include the following rules: the human will have to undergo various tests such as blood pressure, blood tests, stool and urine tests," you kept your eyes on the floor, admiring the interesting grey big tiles as he spoke, "to check that the food does not cause problems to your body. And finally, you will be prescribed a meeting with Rung, the ship's psychiatrist. The human is forbidden to ingest any type or distillate of Energon, Engex, High Grade, goodies, or… any body fluids, until they are labeled as safe by Ratchet. Everything clear?" he asked, and you cleared your throat, nodding your head and answering him, "Yes, sir".
Body fluids? Energon? Psych evaluation? So many questions and so few answers.
"Good," said the titan and continued, "your habsuite is number one hundred and one, on deck C; it is furnished with a bathroom and a bedroom, a kitchen and a small living room. The furniture will arrive shortly, and if you have any requests, do not hesitate to write or speak to Perceptor; he will find a way to provide you with what you need. As for your food, instead, talk to Brainstorm."
As soon as you left the Medbay, after meeting First Aid, another medic, Ratchet handed you a datapad. He said it contained the schedules of visits with him and the shrink, and the map of the Lost Light. You thanked him not only for the datapad, but also for the work done, since the bots now seemed less threatening thanks to his intervention. He somehow managed to expand your matter, using what he called inverse mass-displacing.
The first member of the rest of the crew you met, or rather, who swooped on you, was Replay, or... Rewind, right, who jumped out from around the corner the moment you exited the Medbay.
He was a little shorter than you, but had a lot of energy to spare. He seemed particularly excited to have a human on board and, judging by the tone of his voice, it seemed like he was smiling, but it was hard to tell because of the metal mask he wore under his visor.
"Hey, here you are! Name? Favourite movie? Favourite song? Is it your first time in space?" he asked, firing off questions in rapid succession.
“Woah, there, let my brain formulate an answer,” you said, chuckling softly as you shook his hand. He began, "It's a pleasure to finally meet you, uh…" "(Name), pleasure's mine," "Yeah, (name). I'm Rewind, an archivist. So, do you mind if I record you? I've been recently working on a film, casting all the ship members and you, since you're one of us, now."
"No, I don't mind, but I'm still not entirely a crewmember. I'm on a trial period of two months; if I like y'all and y'all like me, then I can decide to stay and become an Autobot, apparently," you replied, fixing a lock of your hair, since you were aware of being recorded. "I'm sure you'll get along well with us. So, you were telling me about those favourite movies..."
Unfortunately, your legs discovered too late that the Lost Light was almost as big as New York. Sure, if you're thinking of a New York in floors and more organized, but the fact remained that you were still on foot and your new friend, whose alt-mode you had discovered being an USB stick, certainly could not have helped you in this situation, if not take you to the closest and most reliable place where he knew you could sit and rest.
When you entered, there was no one sitting at the tables. The place was spacious, with several boots on the sides of the room, while in the center there was a round table with stools all around; finally, at the other end of the room, there was a counter and more stools, and next to it a small door, probably the broom closet, or supplies.  Do Cybertronians even know what a broom is?
"Hey, Swerve, do you mind if I let her sit down here for a bit? She says she's tired and, you know, I can't blame her." The bot turned around the moment Rewind spoke, and seemed to freeze for a moment.
His visor lit up, and you could hear his grills emitting a hiss. "A human. In my bar. A real human in my bar," he muttered as he approached, and from the look of his visor, he seemed incredulous. "It's a real pleasure, Miss- no, Mister- Primus, I can't believe it."
You lightly chuckled at that, but soon hid your mouth under your hand and softly cleared your throat, not wanting to appear rude.
"My name's (name)," you said, holding out your hand, hoping he'd shake it. As he did, you noticed that instead of having five fingers like the other bots you'd seen, he only had four. He was as tall as you, maybe a little taller, and he looked… pretty solid. Not in a bad way, of course, but that was to give you an idea. He didn't look too aerodynamic either.
He, unlike you, was tense as a violin string, and decided to play it like a gentleman, trying to hide as much of the dirt as possible under the carpet. "Good to meet you, (name). I'm Swerve, I run the bar here," he replied while shaking your hand gently.
"You look tired. I mean- not tired as in bad, just, uh… tired. Do you want a drink, maybe?" He asked, making his way back behind the counter, while you could do nothing but politely refuse the offer.
You remembered the recommendations given (which you had perceived more as threats), on how not to have a gastric lavage right on your first day of newfound freedom. "Ah, I can't, sorry. Ultra Magnus said I mustn't drink anything unless it's, like, human friendly," you replied, sitting at the counter on one of the stools, Rewind next to you.
"I see Mags has already given you the speech," he said, making quote marks on the last two words and taking what looked like a glass cube, starting to clean it with a rag.
"Yeah, seems like it. I've never listened more carefully to anyone else in my entire life. I was afraid he'd have zapped me with his eyes if he'd caught me drifting off," you replied, and Rewind sighed, shaking his head as if to say 'there's not much we can do about it, it's just the way he's meant to be.'
"Oh, don't get me started. D'ya know what he did once? He wanted to shut this place down because he said it was illegal, and that he didn't even know this room existed. When he first found out, he arrested me for... one hour, maybe? Very effective, Megs. And Rewind, I hope you're not recording still," he said, shooting a glance right in the camera on the right side of the archivist's head.
"I was, but I can't put the recording now that you've looked so shamelessly in camera," he replied with a rather annoyed tone, gaining a relieved sigh from the bartender. "Whoops."
Two hours later, Rewind couldn't take it anymore. Rewind was on the verge of deep-recharge, poor Rewind. He had agreed to take you on a tour of the Lost Light and tell you a little about his species' history to document it, not end up having to listen to you and Swerve talk about how many times they said 'yeah' in Fargo.
"It was, like- seventy four percent of the total dialogues in the damn movie, I was about to start chewing on my fucking couch pillows," the minibot responded with a yeah, hitting the right pitch and accent they used in the movie. "Do that again and you'll end up like Carl Showalter, I'm warnin' you," you said, pointing at him but with a big smile on your face.
"Alright, ya got me there. Don't think ending up in a wood chipper is on my to-do list," he replied, smirking at you as he grabbed another glass to clean. He must have had an Armada of glasses, so he could have one to shine whenever he needed to blow off steam.
Leaving Swerve's a few minutes later, having greeted the owner with a promise of a second meeting tomorrow to continue the discussion of who killed Laura Palmer, which, from your point of view, seemed pretty clear, Rewind walked you to your habsuite, number 101 on Deck D, you remembered.
"You and Swerve seemed to get along well," he said, his voice not surprised in the slightest. He knew Swerve had been preparing to make a good impression on the Human Liaison. Everybody knew.
"Well, yes. He seems like a nice guy. Knows lots about movies, but keep in mind that I still gotta test his knowledge on music and TV series," you replied, chuckling softly as, once arrived at your destination, you pulled out your magnetic card.
"He'll surprise you, trust me. He knows more about Earth than I and all my files put together, which is... somehow both worrying and impressing." You shrugged, looking at Rewind as the door retracted into the wall, opening. The room was dark, not much could be seen from outside.
"I can only imagine. By the way, thanks a lot, Rewind, for keeping me company and for introducing me to Swerve. It'll take me a while to remember names and my way around, but I'll try," you said, smiling, your voice now gentler and more sincere. You knew you really liked Rewind. He seemed particularly clear, even in the way he spoke to you.
"No problem at all, we had a good time," you thought he was smiling at you, though it was a little hard to confirm. "I'll see you tomorrow at Swerve's?" he asked, and you nodded, affirming your presence.
"Wait, hand me your datapad, I'll give you my frequency," he said and connected his finger to your device, once given.
"Thanks. I'll text you what time to meet, then." You waved at him as he walked off toward his own habsuite, number 19 on deck C. He said he shares it with a guy, Chromedrone... maybe not. Chrome-tron. Google Chrome.
Walking into your room and turning on the light, you thought about how it looked now, making you want to punch out the window and get sucked into space and freeze to death. It was the same color as a room in a mental institution. Comforting.
You were too tired to care anyway, so you took a quick tour of the room and the bathroom, which was better than the one at home, back on Earth, then through the kitchen and the sad living room, where the only thing present was a blue couch which reminded you of your grandmother's.
You just hoped the furniture would come soon. ⁂⁂⁂⁂⁂⁂⁂⁂
here's part two! hope you like it. (I have no idea how to interact with you readers💔)

*At Swerve’s*
Light Lost, concerned, approaching Swerve: Why were you up yesterday until 3am?
Swerve, tiredly: How did you know that I was up until 3am?
Skids, from a booth: I think we could all hear you clapping to the FRIENDS intro every 25 minutes.
