You know why we're not on board about the syllabus changes? Because when we were told our schools will now focus on real Indian history, we thought it meant the local history, in depth accounts of the freedom movements from real historians. Through art work, poetry by artists from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Srilanka that recounts the horrors and events of the freedom movement. That talks about the real India before things were anglified. Mughal History, the Portugese and French occupations in parts of India, a more detailed account of British atrocities that does not just brush them under the rug. About Nalanda University, Indus Valley Civilisation, etc.

I thought this is what my juniors will learn. Unbiased history and polity that does not teach communalism in a good light, that tells you why we need secularism, why we need democracy, why we need to do our research before picking a government.

And instead we get biased crap that feeds propaganda, erases actual history and rewrites it in a way that's convenient for the current government. This is absolutely dystopian.

hot take: if you don’t list physical activity as a requirement in your syllabus, you should not be able to make your students do it. even if they can speak to you to opt out, you should not be able to do that. because no one should have to fucking explain their disability or health issues or whatever to you for the sake of one singular assignment that you made up yesterday for a writing class. hot fucking take apparently.

mom asked me why my grades were down this time. the real answer is because of the professors and i told her that (they taught us the wrong portions and like. not what came in the exam. so the entire batch didn't cross 40 above in anything. mine came between 35-40 for every exam). she said that im making things up and then i called my friends in front of her and they vouched for me too that i was telling the truth.

and then i asked her if she could survive in this type of environment in uni and she said 'no'.

since then, she's been real quiet about marks.

college professors will make you memorize the entire syllabus, change the course schedule on a whim without telling you, and admonish you for not being able to check the announcements page twice a day every day while at the same time not answer any of the five emails youve sent over the course of a week and will take months to grade any of your papers

why do adults assume that everyone 25 and under is a repository of technological know-how? assignments being thrown at kids that assumes they are in possession of video and audio editing skills necessary to film oneself giving a presentation?? not to mention the basic intersecting issues of class disparity and access to electronics and stable wifi - even in a utopian world that rewards everyone with the technology they need to navigate 21st century life, skill gaps will still exist and should be taken into account. in the same way that it isn’t fair to dock points for a child’s messy handwriting on a well-written essay when what’s being tested is literary analysis and not neatness, that same courtesy should be extended to other areas.
