Now, as everyone knows, there are only two viable reasons why anyone ever learns a foreign language:

1. For school.

2. To impress a foreign love interest.

And Victor can’t quite bring himself to believe that Yuuri would be at all studious enough to hunt down Russian classes in Detroit of all places.(Or: Victor gets jealous of a boyfriend that doesn’t exist.)

The man stared at him, incomprehension written across his face. Viktor tried again, slowly and clearly, with hand gestures.

“Pet?” he said. “Your dog.” He pointed. “Pet. Pet. Peeeeet.” He stroked the air.

Little did either Viktor or Yuuri know, ‘pet’ was actually Catalan for 'fart.’

“Pet OK?” Yuuri tried.

The man, affronted, sneered at them and dragged his adorably fat dog away.

“I don’t see how that went wrong,” said Viktor, who had just been repeating the word 'fart’ slower and slower to a stranger.

Summary - Victor learns Japanese while in Hasetsu. He doesn't tell Yuuri, and things get dicey when he overhears Yuuri and Mari talking about him in Japanese. Repeatedly.

(The subtitle of this fic should be: Victor Nikiforov really needs a hug. Luckily, he gets one. Eventually.)

“No,” Victor says, skating up to Yuuri on the ice, “you have to push all the way from here, or you’ll never get the height you need for that axel.” He sets his hand on Yuuri’s ass, tracing the muscle group he’s referring to. “Not here.” He taps Yuuri’s thigh. He doesn’t know the words for the muscles in English, only knows how to show him.

Yes, technically he’s grabbing Yuuri’s ass, but how else is he to communicate?

Notes - this is another favourite of mine!  I don’t believe there is anyone in the yoi fandom who hasn’t read this fic. 

Victor has no sense of direction in this fic, and honestly? I headcanon. Silly Victor is best Victor. 

10/10 if you haven’t read it yet what are you doing with your life
