Matti & Marja-Liisa added to the top of this water tower in Finland, to adapt it to a home for their family and an office for their company. 

Come on, up. It’s only 167 stairs to the house.  Luckily, no one needs to run down the stairs to open the front door as it opens from above with a buzzer.

The personal home has three floors. The lobby on the middle floor has access to the kitchen and three bedrooms.

The glass table of the kitchen is imported from Spain. The idea for the rotating part on the table comes from a Chinese restaurant in Madrid.

The water tower, completed in 1967, was, of course, not designed for residential use, but in skilled hands the transformation was successful. Matti is a civil engineer and Marja-Liisa is a teacher. 

There’s a fireplace in the media room, an especially favorite place for the family children.

Matti likes to accompany Marja-Liisa with an electric grand piano. It rose with the power of two men, and also had to be dismantled to get it up here.

The grips on the climbing wall function primarily as an ornament, unlike the outer wall of the water tower. At one time, the water tower was the tallest climbing wall in Finland. 

The bed stands on a raised platform, so it’s easy to explore the slopes of Tahkovuori, which looms far away.

The spacious sauna once accommodated the entire KalPa hockey team. 

The master bedroom has its own toilet and shower, which is as round as the water tower. 

 The tower is not assembled from elements but is cast in place, and the height offers quite magnificent view.

2.6.21 Tahko

The kids had a much better week with their behavior, so we went to Tahko. The town is named Tahkovuori, but everyone calls it Tahko. It's one of the most popular ski towns in Finland and only about 50 Km from Kuopio.

C, G, and P had a 100-minute private ski lesson. Casey (that is what his Finnish name sounds like, but I don't know the actual spelling) was awesome! He was patient, direct, and an overall excellent instructor! The kids were independently skiing at the end of the lesson after never having been on downhill skis before today. Awesome!
