speaking of cameras! what is your best recommendation for someone with no official experience in photography who wants a nice camera that can be taken easily around for vacations (the beach, different cities) and for photos of friends/loved ones? so nothing overly complicated, and nothing too fancy. i get so caught up in reading reviews and then idk which one is the "right" one. i really want to buy something good but not more fancy/complicated than what i need. also for some context, i don't want to edit anything and the computer i have is a mac book laptop. idk if that factors into it. thank you soooo much for any recs you can give!
i'm gonna preface this by saying that i'm not an expert on digital cameras, but honestly, i think most cameras nowadays, especially once you get into the high hundreds-thousands euro range are quite good. i think it comes down to what you need. for example, do you want to be able to change lenses or do you want a fixed lens? do you want to also do video? how much money are you willing to spend? should it be small or can it be bigger? do you want a viewfinder or is a screen enough? more than model, i think you need to figure out what you want out of a camera! for example, i knew i wanted something compact but capable, where i can change lenses, and i liked the film camera look of fujifilm, so that narrowed it down for me.
i would definitely suggest an interchangeable lens system if you might wanna branch out in the future and get more creative with photography. first, because you can then try out different focal lengths, and also get more creative with larger apertures on higher resolution cameras. some that seem good (and are not too expensive) are the canon m50, the sony a6000 line, nikon z30, sony zv-e10 and the fujifilm xt30. you could also look into micro four thirds cameras by olympus or lumix (smaller sensor than most common changeable lens cameras, but i've heard good things and they're much smaller usually). you could also always look for slightly older models if you want to save money, as cameras from the past couple of years will still be more than enough for casual shooting. what i would suggest though is no longer buying a dslr, but going for a mirrorless system; they're smaller, lighter and you can see in camera what your picture will look like as you take it.
however, these can sometimes be more expensive, usually bigger, and lenses are also an extra investment. if you want something with a fixed lens and that is just for snapshots of family and vacation, i would look for a compact camera. i'm not an expert here and i'm more familiar with premium models such as the fujifilm x100v or the ricoh gr iii, which are between 1000-1500€, so a big investment for casual shooting. from the little research i just did, there seem to be some good cameras out there from sony and canon, especially. one thing i would say is that idk how capable regular compact cameras are and whether they're going to be a significant improvement over a phone camera.
my biggest suggestion is to go to a camera store and try cameras out! see what feels best in your hands, what makes sense to you and which you find the easiest to handle. you can then also see if the image quality is what you want. cameras are such a tactile thing where, at least for me, i can usually tell the minute i hold one in my hands if it's for me or not.
i hope this helps in some way, but if you have more questions, let me know!

Some photos from our last show before we went into another lockdown in Hangzhou. Some of my colleagues did not make it to the show that night since they had been stuck in a barricaded complex because of an infected resident.
The first photo was my attempt to capture the barricade while waiting for Faith to come and pick up stuff I had for her. My attempt did not go well.
The "Rear Window" photo was taken with my Fujifilm xt30 with XF 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR lens. The only lens I will ever need for wide to medium telephoto. I turned out my lights on the first night of lockdown and looked out the window. It was darker than usual. Only a few windows were lit.
We were able to go for a walk at night. Luckily, our residence isn't as strict as my friends'.
The rest of the photos were self-developed and scanned.

Philly I have too many cameras and I think about unloading one or two... or four or five. My favorite for street is my Fuji xt30-tiny and a great image. This was taken with my Nikon d810. It’s solid but needs more work in post. I like DxO with Nikon files but Capture One sometimes works too. But you have to explore and it takes more time than just working a Fuji file in C1, which works great. And then on a phone the differences tend to disappear.... #streetphotography #life_is_street #spicollective #eyeshotmag #ourstreets #gf_streets #fromstreetswithlove #MySPC #burnmyeye #storyofthestreet #dreaminstreets #lensculturestreet #everybodystreet #nycspc #bnw_demand #nonstopstreet #streetizm #dpsp_street #mydaidia #streetfinder #streetizm #streets_storytelling #ihsp #emergenciamag #canpubphoto #thecitymag #street_avengers #streetsansfrontieres (at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) https://www.instagram.com/p/CERuaN5Hplh/?igshid=1xilumwf2p2z0

15 Finest Fujifilm Cameras.
The XT30 documents "just" 30 fps and is limited to 10 mins per data. The much heavier body of the XT3 additionally means there's space for not just twin SD card ports however the VG-XT3 battery hold. Connected, it boosts taking care of with bigger lenses like the XF 16-55mm or mm f/2.8. But extra notably, the two additional batteries improve the XT3's endurance from approx. Photo stabilization is just one of the most vital features in an electronic electronic camera. Looking at the XT3 vs XT30, I'm frequently impressed by exactly how capable both electronic cameras are. Recording limits are 20 mins at 60 fps as well as 30 minutes at 30 fps. https://mswardecke.weebly.com Nevertheless, Fujifilm sees no requirement to go into the full frame market, connecting the lack of requirement to not having a history with the layout as well as not wanting to cannibalize their very own video cameras. I need to confess that I actually appreciate the path Fujifilm has actually taken. I had the D800 and also switched to Olympus em5 currently have pen-f waiting for em1 mk2. Given that my purchase of the Oly-- I extremely extremely seldom use my full framework any longer. I keep the FF for the occasional paid project-- but beyond that, I discover myself not using it. This is all fantastic commentary-- thanks all, as I am in the dilemma of picking between these 2 systems (simply place my Nikon D7000 on consignment-- bye-bye). It would be wonderful to be able to do extensive recording for meetings and also such without having to watch the clock to reset the electronic camera or pay additional for an HDMI recorder. Their APS-C sensors and cam align is so good that they don't need to think about creating complete frame choices. They would be diverting focus from this range if they did. The information originated from Toshihisa Iida, General Manager of Fujifilm's Optical Device and also Electronic Imaging Products Department, in a current interview with DPReview. Fujifilm has actually had remarkable success with their X-Series video cameras like the X-T3, while their brand-new medium format GFX serieshas brought tool layout electronic cameras near the cost series of upper-level complete structure electronic cameras. The XT30 has an average of 380 shots per charge as well as calls for swapping of batteries. But when it involves the XT30 vs XT3, it's clear that the XT3 is the costs video camera. Weather condition sealing is a huge bargain and also the XT3 has several of the best on the mirrorless market, with a tough magnesium framework and also rubberized seals throughout. That makes picking between the XT3 as well as XT30 that a lot easier if you fire in the aspects. Heritage lenses like the XF 24mm f/1.4 as well as 35mm f/1.4 carry out better compared to the older X-mount bodies. They have actually totally stayed clear of a congested as well as affordable market room and also carved out their own niches, the similarity which nothing else firm actually comes near. In doing so, they have actually developed some excellent items as well as an extremely dedicated adhering to, so it's not unexpected to hear they'll be staying the course. The brand-new focusing software lowers the infamous searching as well as loud chattering of the older lenses. While not as quiet as the newer f/2 versions, the f/1.4 lenses obtain brand-new life when utilized with either the XT3 or XT30. Provided the lens selection--. particularly the pro line series by M. Zuiko-- I am inclined to favor the Olympus E-1. My question is, would certainly everyones perceptions transform offered the concept that the suggested new release E-1 Mark II will certainly have the just recently launch Sony 20MP Exmor sensing unit with 27fps. With the Olympus, the tone curve and metering job much better so the video camera does not need you to draw back highlights anywhere near as usually as the Fuji bodies do. I wound up selecting Olympus a number of years earlier since the video camera just really felt much better in my hands than the Fuji. Last but not least, these video cameras can prolong down to ISO 160 for peak performance in bright lighting problems. You just disregard all the complaints of Fuji individuals who have troubles with their retro dials. Oh as well as it's uproarious to see fuji individuals end up being so ecstatic to have a "new" feature on their electronic camera that exists because 2011 on Olympus like a touchscreen lcd. You will certainly be overseen just how little difference their remains in photo quality.

I made this funny mistake of calling Bennie Safdie, Bernie Sadfie.
"Safdie! Not Sadfie. Sadfie is what you and Sinta always do"
It's true. My daughter, living in the 21st century, is able to text and take photos with a borrowed smartphone. She uses emojis and when emojis are not enough, she takes photos of herself. One of these photos is of her crying. (Actually not just one, she has taken several sadfies sent out to me and family.) When I see her sadfies, I cannot help crying myself. The response is instinctual and animal-like. Seeing her cry, makes me cry.
The apple does not fall far from the tree. When I was young, my mom said I was the same. Back then, there were no digital cameras, smart phones or social media. I only had the mirror from my mom's dresser. I was around my daughter's age, or probably even younger, when she saw me crying in front of the mirror. She asked me why I was crying and why I was looking at the mirror. Innocently, I replied "I want to see how I look like when I cry.." That's a lie. I actually said "I want to see if I'm still pretty when I cry."
Language is not enough when expressing how I feel. Words fail me despite my obsession for granulating feelings. Being an actor I guess also helped widen my emotional vocabulary. I translate how people feel, even the unspeakable complex emotions, for a living. I translate those feelings into song. The most difficult part of it is being aware and naming them as I am going through the experience. It can be embarrassing to admit those feelings too.
Back in the states, while adjusting to a new home and being a new mom, I often took walks outside. It was in these walks where I allowed myself to fully feel what I was feeling. Most of the time, I ended up crying. I must have looked terrifying to other people.
It wasn't even enough to cry. However low I was feeling, I wanted to memorize it. I wanted to memorize how it felt in my body and where I felt it. I wanted to remember every detail and how everything looked at that moment. It was then that I grew the habit of taking photos during difficult times. Whenever I am overcome by emotion, I take photos of my surroundings and of myself.
My low periods usually happen during my days off when work is not on my mind and I get to process everything that happened during the week; just life in general, and how much I miss my daughter and how much I'm missing from other significant parts of my life. My body catches up with my emotions.
It happened recently, and I remembered to grab my film camera to capture it. Somewhere in the middle of crying, shallow breathing and putting the camera in the right settings, I had managed to stop crying. It was the only way to stop...surprisingly. Perhaps it took my away from the bubble of grief and I was looking at it from the outside. I approached it with an absurd sense of creativity and curiosity.
I like taking self-portraits and find little shame in sharing them to other people. More than vanity, self portraits help me get through confusing times.

Middle of the Road. This shot was taken in the middle of Princes St in Edinburgh. I had some time to spare as my daughter @alicelinnney was at a uni interview.
