god this scene conveys so much in 3 panels… Chung Myung trying desperately to heal his closest friend. Tang Bo stopping him because he knows it’s futile, pushing away the hand that tried to heal him to hold it instead. Chung Myung cradling Tang Bo’s head to make his last moments more comfortable. Would Chung Myung have fed him qi forever if Tang Bo hadn’t stopped him?

I’m not talking about them in a romantic way, though you can definitely read into it like that. But regardless, how devastating must it have been, watching his dearest friend die with the knowledge that Tang Bo might have lived if only Chung Myung knew how to save him?

in earlier chapters we see that the past Chung Myung was always dismissive of healing and, more broadly, anything not related to martial arts. Losing Tang Bo made him realize how lacking he was. He could be the strongest man in the world, but it won’t save the dying. It would make him, (in)famous for his strength, feel helplessly weak.

This is what sets rotmhs apart from other martial arts novels!!! The emphasis on vulnerability and the limits of pure strength!!!

this tiny gesture may not be in the novel, but it tells so much. what an incredible adaptation. the webcomic is so good.

Tang Bo x Reader

His mouth felt unbearably dry. The hard surface of the wall was cold on his feverish skin.

“Tang Bo, explain yourself,” you gritted out.

It was too much. The proximity was intoxicating, it made his head spin. And unknowingly, you pressed closer. He was tempted to just break through the wall itself, but then he’d have to deal with his family’s bitching for like, at least a month.

“Can you—” he wheezed, red in the face and trying desperately to avert his gaze. “Can you maybe, just, back up?”

Please, he begged. For my sanity.

A hand grabbed a fistful of the front of his robes, and he nearly cried in frustration. You were going to kill him with this.

“You think I haven’t noticed that you’ve been avoiding me all week? Do I look like an idiot to you or something?”

“No,” he rasped, trying not to look at your inviting lips. The ferocity in your gaze was not turning him on. It wasn’t—damnit.

“Look at me,” you snapped.

And…oh. He was so, utterly fucked.

I had so much fun drawing wukong! While Bō sleeves are as stressful as always. But definitely, Chung Myung's expressions were by far the easiest part. Hehe
