Ghost Story: A New Musical Virtual Reading!

We're excited to announce we're having a reading of our new musical Ghost Story with Musical Theatre Factory on Thurs May 29th at 7pm ET! It is free to attend and virtual, so you can join from anywhere.

Ghost Story is a supernatural Western romance musical by Mel Hornyak and Elliot Valentine. When a gay couple spends the summer in Montana, they haunt and are haunted by two cowboy lovers who lived there a hundred years earlier. Amid mountain wildfires, sun-bleached bones, and the timeless desire to rewrite history, this introspective chamber musical explores queer ancestry, immigrant identity, and masculinity in the American West.

This reading will feature actors reading the full script, demos of the songs, and a talkback with us after. It's a chance for us to show our musical to potential collaborators in the musical theater world and people who might be interested in producing it, so having your support in the audience as folks who've been following our work and this project is part of that! 💓

If you watched our concert and are curious about what happens in the rest of Ghost Story, come! If you're curious about the process of new musical development, come! If you want to hear secret never-before-heard demos, a stellar cast (some of whom are helping record the demos!) and have a chance to chat with us and the actors after, come!

Questions:

What is a reading?

It's what it says on the tin! The actors will read our script out loud, with stage directions, and play demos for the songs. This one is a table read, so there won't be any staging or live singing -- it's just an opportunity to hear the musical as a whole, and to hear professional actors step into the roles we've written.

How is this different from the Ghost Story concert in August?

This table read will cover the entire contents of the script of Ghost Story (and all the new stuff we've added since Montana! and the changes we've made to the stuff since!)

Do I have to RSVP?

Yes, to receive the Zoom link for the event once it's closer to the time! The link to RSVP is here.

I can't make it on the 29th! Will it be on YouTube?

Sadly, I don't think this will ever be a public YouTube video, due to rights agreements with the actors and Musical Theater Factory (and the fact that it's a work in progress). That might change, but I would say -- if you can make it, try to make it! Just 'cause I can't make any guarantees. 😅

prompts - you can send in as basic or as detailed prompts as you would like to! the only things required are the fandom, characters, and what you'd like me to do with them! (in very general manner) length is helpful, but not necessary.
