Geats crew meeting Don Momotaro
ayyy dios mio
See its this steely standoff between Ace, Michinaga, and Taro in this tense way that its hard to put your tongue on. Because you know each of them could jump on each other to either tease, or punch one another but like
Taro and Ace has this respect for one another as old souls who are distant from humanity due to various circumstances. They'll at least get along better than uh.... Michinaga....with any of them. If anything, Michi will try to ignore them.
Neon on the other hand is hesitant to get to know Taro but will warm up to him eventually. It is the same with Keiwa but he's more willing to. Both of them care for Ace in this way (romantic or platonic) and do not mind where he is from. It's the same with Taro.
Neon and Keiwa are both warm and accepting to Taro but while Neon is a bit more reserved, Keiwa is willing to hang out with Taro more.
But the two of them are more than aware how similar Taro and Ace are and are just "oh god there's two of them..." the entire time.

From Minae Mizumura’s Wuthering Heights retelling A True Novel
Fumiko is the Nelly-equivalent. I think that the part about boys is foreshadowing for Taro Azuma (the Heathcliff equivalent) who, like Heathcliff, is both good-looking and smart and becomes very rich.
The reading which posits Nelly and Heathcliff as foils who both grow up in a subordinate position but have very different destinies is one I think I encountered before: As a plain working-class girl, all Nelly can achieve is to be a housekeeper. As a charismatic man Heathcliff can got out into the world, make something of himself and return and get even richer through revenge. A True Novel I think will be a book that builds on this reading.
Yes, I am reading this novel exceptionally slowly but it is because I am enjoying it too much and don’t want it to end. I want it to sit on my table as something that I find legitimately fun and engaging and interesting that I can return to whenever I want.

CHARACTER'S - CUPCAKE EDITION ✧˖°.
I'm calling out @riftdancing, not so much because she tagged me to this but, in seeing her cupcakes a couple of weeks ago, I was determined to get around to doing my own.
I'm not a foodie at all, so my descriptions will be insanely lacking. I imagine Seelu's is a taro-inspired cupcake that embodies her connection to the wood and stars, Azuma's is some kind of citrus (likely pomelo or yuzu) with cherry blossom accents and Sarrai's is... listen, it's a sugar trip. It's not for the faint of hearted.
Tagging: @thebrassbat, @silentletterwords, @eorzeanflowers, @starrysnowdrop, @thefreelanceangel, @fair-fae, @unmeiha, @archaiclumina, @fantasmagoriam and anyone else who wants to do it! If you'd like to be tagged in any dash games I participate in, I heavily recommend you like my permanent interaction call here! You can find the cupcake maker here. Have fun!

The Dissonance in the Geats Fandom
Turning off reblogs for this because I have no intention of taking this discussion further, these are just my thoughts and criticisms. Take it elsewhere if you don't agree and don't @ me
This would probably be a Hot Take (tm), but I find it awfully dissonant that people were calling out Keiwa's wishes ("world peace" and "a world where all the victims of the DGP were revived") for being vague and too idealistic, but are now praising Ace's current wish ("a world where everyone is happy") even though it's similarly vague and idealistic.
Don't give me crap about this being about Keiwa's "selfishness". If Keiwa were purely selfish he could've simply wished for his parents and Sara to be revived, but he still gave enough of a fuck for the Random Taros in the DGP to wish them back too, even when he was so emotionally broken that it would be more realistic for him to give zero fucks about the rest of the world.
Yeah, some of the people who were brought back happen to be shitty human beings... but then, are they just saying that they deserved to die in the DGP for the entertainment of people from some distant future? To be turned to fodder for wishes?
(Because, yeah, karma be damned, that's kinda fucked up.)
Meanwhile, Ace is praised for helping the likes of Kousei and Azuma and basically forgetting all their crimes, for the mere act of doing the absolute bare minimum to atone (aka: loving his kid enough to protect her and becoming a somewhat decent human being, respectively). Reminder that the former was an abusive pos to his daughter Neon (Ace's friend) and the latter has too many crimes to even rehash anymore, including killing Keiwa and Sara (also Ace's friends) and Ace himself.
While we're talking about the consequences of actions... While lots of people were quick to blame Keiwa for the actions of the Gang Riders (regardless of the holes in their reasoning, the fact that none of them would have Drivers if someone from the DGP didn't give them one being only one of them), no one is blaming Ace for what happened to Sara despite him giving all the DGP Riders their memories lead to Daichi targeting her for his deranged experiment.
Seriously, what is the damned difference here?
I give up understanding this fandom. I really do.

Pîtâ in Funeral Parade of Roses (Toshio Matsumoto, 1969) Cast: Pîtâ, Osamu Ogasawara, Yoshio Tsuchiya, Toyosaburo Uchiyama, Don Madrid, Emiko Azuma, Yoshimi Jo, Koichi Nakamura, Flamenco Umeji, Saako Oota, Taro Manji, Mikio Shibayama, Wataru Hikonagi, Fuchisumi Gomi, Chieko Kobayashi, Yo Sato, Keiichi Takanaga. Screenplay: Toshio Matsumoto. Cinematography: Tatsuo Suzuki. Art direction: Setsu Asakura. Film editing: Toshie Iwasa. Music: Joji Yuasa. Toshio Matsumoto's Funeral Parade of Roses both participates in and parodies the late-1960s avant-garde "underground" film movement, with its reliance on eccentric cuts and random inserts. There's a scene in which the filmmakers are shooting a badly tuned television set, and keep fiddling with the set to get the kind of distorted image they want. And at one point someone quotes the avant-garde filmmaker Jonas Mekas -- and then gets his name wrong, calling him "Menas Jokas." Matsumoto's film keeps the viewer off-balance at all times, moving in and out of what we take to be "reality" to expose that it's all moviemaking. There is, for example, a scene in which the cross-dressing protagonist, Eddie ( Pîtâ), and a Black man, Tony (Don Madrid), seem to be having sex, with lots of pornographic gasping and facial contortions. But then the camera angle shifts and we see that there's a camera crew surrounding the bed where Tony is propped up by himself on the headboard while the camera is focused on the face of Eddie, simulating ecstasy. Even the main story of the film gets its distancing when we cut to the actor who plays Eddie, Pîtâ (or Peter, as the English language screen credits have it), being interviewed about the role he's playing. It's much like his own life, he says, except for the incest part. At this point in the film, we don't know about the incest part, which precipitates the crisis in Eddie's life. Suffice it to say that Matsumoto based a large part of the film on Oedipus Rex. The central story deals with the rivalry between Eddie and Leda (Osamu Ogasawara), the "Madame" of a club that caters to salarymen who want to sleep with gei boi, for the affections of Gonda (Yoshio Tsuchiya), a man who turns out to have more significance in Eddie's life than is at first apparent. There are some longueurs in Matsumoto's film, mostly having to do with the avant-garde sequences but also with a too-long drugged-out orgy scene. (Other people's orgies are invariably boring.) But there are some genuine shocks and some real emotion in the film, and the performance by Pîtâ -- best known as the androgynous Kyoami, the analogue to the Fool in Ran (1985), Akira Kurosawa's reworking of King Lear -- is outstanding.

Banri Settsu [Charming Wink LIVE!] SSR < NanaBan NOW ON AIR! >
!Spoiler warning! : The followings contain contents of A3! act! addict! actors!
Tumblr media
Card Quote : “It’ll be broadcasted across Veludo Way, so it’s a great way to get the word out about our live. I’ll be careful about not disclosing any hidden info.” “You’re worried about the free-talk session? Well, we’ve got the script, so it’s gonna be fine.”
The translation is undercut. You have been warned about spoilers.

NanaBan NOW ON AIR!
Part 1
Salesperson: "Welcome."
Taichi: "Hm, protein bar for Tasuku-san and Ten-chan, Perol chocolate for Mu-chan...."
Banri: "There was a drink on the list too, right? Azuma-san's carbonated water, Itaru-san's usual cola...."
Tumblr media
━━━ ◦ ❖ ◦ ━━━
Banri: "That's all that was asked."
Taichi: "Yep! This is a lot, time to check out!"
Banri: "No, we haven't done OUR shopping yet."
Taichi: "Ah- that's right! I'll go get the red gummy candies!"
Banri: "Then, I'll head for my own."
Banri: "Ah, there it is. Tiramisu by that famous coffee shop."
Banri: "The coffee there is really good, I have high expectations for this."
Taichi: "Sorry, I took time-"
Taichi: "Wait, is that a sweet? It's rare to see Banny eating a sugary thing."
Banri: "It was recommended by Tsumugi-san. So, did you get what you wanted?"
Taichi: Yep! Hehe, got 2 bags!"
Banri: "Bags of gummy candies, you eat that much?"
Taichi: "No problem at all! Practice session for live's gonna be tough so I'm gonna power up with this!"
Banri: "Ah, right. Even though I have no problems with singing and dancing, it sure is a bit more tiring than acting."
Taichi: "Yeah! But it's been really a while since our last live so I had to do my best!"
Banri: "Yep."
Taichi: "Well then, it's time to check out. Excuse me!"
Theatre Taro: "Everyone visiting, are you enjoying shopping!?"
Taichi: "Ah! This voice!"
Theatre Taro: "I, who acts as a personality in the good day program "ACTOR'S STATION!!! will--"
Theatre Taro: "Will be broadcasting every day from 15:00 in this sacred place for theatre, Veludo Way's studio "Veludo Radio"~"
Taichi: "As I guessed, it's theatre's Taro-san!"
Banri: "Speaking of which, this program does play occasionally but I haven't really paid it any attention until now."
Taichi: "I was also like that until recently, but after listening to it in my spare time a few times, I've kinda gotten addicted to it~"
Banri: "Eh, well then, I'll give it a try the next time."
Salesperson: "Please choose a payment method."
Banri: "Ah, through ONIGIRI pay."
Salesperson: "Thank you for shopping~"
━━━ ◦ ❖ ◦ ━━━
Taichi: "This sure is a lot!"
Banri: "We did shop for a good number of people."
Taichi: "Hmm, drinks for Azuma-san and Itaru-san, sweets for Muchan and others, then for Juza-san was--"
Kazunari: "Ah, it's Taichan and Setzer! Good work~"
Tumblr media
Banri: "Otsu, heading home? It's pretty late."
Taichi: "Is it because of some university work?"
Kazunari: Yep, and papi called me for some business so I went home. From there, I got a really good news!"
Tachi: "Eh~ What is it?!"
Kazunari: "Look forward to it after getting home~"
Part 2
Banri: (I'll keep the tiramisu in the refrigerator for the time being. Ah, I almost forgot to write my name on it--)
Sakyo: "Oi Settsu, it's an emergency meeting. Come fast."
Banri: "Got it, got it."
Tumblr media
Banri: (Should I write it later? But what's so urgent....)
━━━ ◦ ❖ ◦ ━━━
Banri: "Huh? Radio appearance?"
Kazunari: "Right! The 2 special spots of the radio program my papi's related to suddenly became vacant."
Kazunari: "It looked like a good opportunity so I was asked if it would be okay to feature MANKAI company."
Izumi: "The producer of the show also seems to be very passionate, I think it'll be a good talk."
Sakyo: "It fits just right for the promotion of our upcoming live performance. There's no reason to refuse."
Tenma: "Indeed."
Sakuya: "Rather we should be thanking you!"
Tumblr media
Tsumugi: "By the way, what kind of program is it?"
Izumi: "Veludo Radio's "ACTOR'S STATION!!! one."
Taichi: "Eh?! Theatre's Taro-san's one?!"
Tasuku: "Veludo Radio" huh. It's the Veludo Way's local station, right?"
Muku: "They record publicly every once in a while! I've seen it before!"
Masumi: "But that studio, isn't it a bit small?"
Izumi: "Yeah, maybe that's why they've decided to limit the guest number to two. Also, there's a slight problem-"
Yuki: "Problem?"
Izumi: "This program, it's a live broadcast. The first program is already over so, it's sudden but is there anyone who can help?"
Taichi: "Here, he~re! I really like this show so I wanna go!"
Taichi: "Banny, let's go together!"
Banri: "Ha? Why me?"
Taichi: "Banny, when there was a CM of this program in the convenience store, you seemed to be interested!"
Banri: "Well yeah but...."
Tenma: "You're the leader, after all, I think it's a good idea for Banri-san to appear."
Tsumugi: "If it's Banri-kun, he looks like he will be able to speak fine on the radio."
Izumi: "I too would be relieved if Banri-kun is the one appearing on it, what do you think?"
Banri: "....I guess it's fine."
━━━ ◦ ❖ ◦ ━━━
Banri: "So sleepy...."
Tumblr media
Izumi: "You look pretty sleepy. Did you pull an all-nighter?"
Omi: "You did keep Taichi company for his all night radio show's practice."
Banri: "It had to be fine since we have the script and all, but I couldn't leave because he was so worried about the free talk part."
Omi: "Since it's a live broadcast, Sakyo-san is being strict about the spoilers and undisclosed information so it's understandable to be nervous."
Izumi: "Fufu, maybe you're right."
Banri: (Come to think of it, I completely forgot about the tiramisu I kept in the fridge. I'll eat it now-)
Juza: "Move."
Banri: "Ha? I also get to use the fridge."
Juza: "I'm first."
Banri: "It's obviously me."
Sakyo: "Oi you two, what are you up to this early in the morning?"
Banri: "Tsk...."
Juza: "...."
Tumblr media
Taichi: "Fuwa~ Good morning~"
Banri: "Taichi, you look insanely sleepy. You sure you're gonna be okay for today's radio show?"
Taichi: "I'm okay! Banny accompanied me in the practice so I'm perfectly prepared!"
Taichi: "If you can then everyone, please come see us!"
Banri: "Hyodo, don't you dare come."
Juza: "Don't give me orders."
Banri: "Ah?"
Sakyo: "You fuckers..."
Part 3
Izumi: (Sakyo-san did tell me to go to the studio, but I didn't think it would be this exciting.)
Staff: "Well then, live starts in 5 seconds! 4, 3, 2--"
Theatre Taro: "Then, today too is another show of "ACTOR'S STATION!!!", it's the personality-- Theatre's Taro!"
Theatre Taro: "This time, we have the theatre company that's rapidly rising in popularity. Featuring "MANKAI Company"~!"
Theatre Taro: "Today, we are welcoming two members of the company, Settsu Banri-kun and Nanao Taichi-kun!"
Banri: "Hi, it's Settsu Banri."
Taichi: "I'm-I'm Nanao Taichi."
Tumblr media
Theatre Taro: "Well then, we'll be talking a lot shortly, so everyone please look forward to it~!"
━━━ ◦ ❖ ◦ ━━━
Theatre Taro: "Once again, we welcome today's guests-- Banri-kun and Taichi-kun from Autumn Troupe of MANKAI Company!"
Taichi: "He-Hello!"
Banri: (So, it's free talk already huh. This Taichi looks pretty nervous, will he be okay?)
Theatre Taro: "Out of the 4 groups, Autumn troupe has the reputation of having a pretty rough image but what is the actual relationship like between the members?"
Taichi: "It's super good~!"
Theatre Taro: "Ah! Since we're on this topic, tell us one good friendship episode of Autumn Troupe!"
Taichi: "Eh? Um, there was this comedy contest in our dorm--"
Banri: (Oi oi, why is he bringing up the story of the MANMAN Grand Prix....)
Tumblr media
Taichi: "The duo group formed by Sakyo bro and Omi-kun "OS" was pretty good!"
Banri: "The combination that was cultivated in the stage was kinda lively."
Theatre Taro: "Eh~ it sounds pretty funny! Then, what if you could give a name to the duo in the studio?"
Banri: "Me and Taichi's duo name? If that's the case...."
Taichi: "Taking "Nana" from Nanao and "Ban" from "Banri", how about "NanaBan"?!"
Banri: "No. 7? Isn't that kinda too half-hearted effort?"
[T/N: "Nana" means 7 and "Ban" means Number. Hence, "No. 7" (NanaBan)]
Taichi: "But it's Lucky Seven!"
Banri: "Then, in the upcoming live, Taichi can be in the position of No. 7."
Taichi: "Eh~!"
Theatre Taro: "Ahaha, it's true, you two really get along!"
Izumi: (Sakyo-san was really worried but it's okay so far....both are having talk with a good flow.)
Juza & Omi: "......"
Izumi: (Huh? The two outside the window are---)
Theatre Taro: "......"
Theatre Taro: "....Taichi-kun, if Banri-kun and Hyodo Juza-kun were to form a duo group, what kind of name would be fit for those two?"
Taichi: "Ah, those two! Even though they usually fight, they get along well~!"
Banri: "Ha? What are you talking about-"
Tumblr media
Taichi: "So, the perfect duo name for them is...."Secret Best Friends"!"
Banri: "Best friends my ass!"
Banri: (Shit...did I come off too defiant?)
Banri: "Ah.....I mean I wanted the listeners to be the ones to choose a duo name for me and Hyodo."
Theatre Taro: "Ah, that's a good idea! I wanna try too if I get the chance....Now we'll start the talk about live that everyone's been waiting for!"
Banri: "Phew...."
━━━ ◦ ❖ ◦ ━━━
Banri: "Wa...I'm tired now."
Izumi: "Good work today. It's a relief everything ended safely."
CHOOSE
Tumblr media
>You were calm
Izumi: "Even though you aren't used to appearing on the radio, you looked pretty calm."
Banri: "I did feel a bit of chill too though."
Izumi: "Is that so? It looked like it was a piece of cake for you."
Banri: "That's well, as long as I'm the one representing the company, I gotta do it well."
Banri: ".....Besides, I can’t afford to show you any uncool side of me."
Izumi: “Fufu, if that's the thing then there's no need to worry. You were cool as usual."
>Was it fun?
Izumi: "How was the live broadcast? Was it fun?"
Banri: "I guess. The personality guy was a professional so it became a great studying material too."
Banri: "Taichi seems to be really on it, I think I'll continue listening to that show."
Izumi: (Banri-kun's aspirations are true, and the way he always thinks about the company is really reliable.)
Juza: "....."
Azami: "Secret Best Friends" huh?"
Tumblr media
Banri: "Stop that shit."
Juza: "...."
Banri: "Hold up, why do you have my tiramisu?"
Juza: "This is something I asked for during the last shopping trip."
Banri: "Nah, the nameless tiramisu's mine. I forgot to put my name on it when I kept it in the fridge."
Juza: "I too had forgotten to write my name."
Sakyo: "Stop making it a big deal. You can have either one of them if they both are nameless."
Izumi: "Why don't you decide fairly with rock paper scissors?"
Banri: "Got it. Oi, let's do it."
Juza: "Bring it on."
Tumblr media
Izumi: "You're really gonna do it?!"
Sakyo: "Jeez, these two really act like little kids when they're facing each other."
Azami: "They really fit the name "Secret Best Friends", can't think of a more fitting name."
Omi: "The more you quarrel, the more you get along" is the perfect proverb for them."
Taichi: "Then, those two really are--"
Juza & Banri: "I won't lose to you even if I die!!!"

I think his anger is what makes Heathcliff realistic not just as a man but as a human being tbh… I am reading A True Novel, a Wuthering Heights retelling set in postwar Japan. And aesthetically it is almost completely realistic, and everything about the characters and their reasoning is much much more explained. The general plot makes more sense than in Wuthering Heights. But its Heathcliff is not angry, and so emotionally I find him less convincing than the WH Heathcliff.
Like this is what A True Novel’s author said:
Tumblr media
And I completely agree. But also, Taro Azuma, the Heathcliff equivalent, is the one she mentions as an Ubermensch and it is technically true. And it is true for Heathcliff too: He is handsome, he is intelligent, he is healthy, he is strong. Mr. Earnshaw and Hareton prefer him to their biological family, he gets Isabella Linton to be in love with him with absolutely no effort on his part. His mutual connection with Catherine is legendary. His revenge miraculously goes to the plan. He technically cheats death. But Heathcliff never feels like an Ubermensch to me, he is somehow too angry for that, if that makes sense? Whereas it is too early to say for Taro Azuma.
I am liking Taro Azuma too but he is no Heathcliff.
