I was thinking about the concepts of a god in video games and my favourite depiction of it is in Okami. Because... nobody really knows that you play as the god, in fact, it is a pretty huge plot point that everybody stopped believing in the gods. And then you go around with Amaterasu and help out people... but you don't do it with a big fanfare, you just go there and use a little magic that just looks like it was a coincidence. And then people are like "What just happened?!" and often they talk to Ammy because she is there, but for them, she is just the cute little doggy, but then they give praise because their problem got solved and it all gets to Ammy. And it is like this in the whole game. And not only that, the people react to your shenanigans. If you let a tree bloom in front of them, they have a surprised animation and a question mark over their head and then go back to what they were doing, probably thinking "Well, that was strange." And you keep doing stuff that just isn't logic over the course of the game and then... in the end... they finally believe in Ammy, but only after Issun told them about her. I just... really love the idea that a god is someone who just is around and helps without expecting anything in return and just taking the praise of people who now not have a problem anymore. And the fact that they animated people reacting to random shenanigans and not only people, also every single animal. I just love Okami so much.

Sekiro: Everything was already shit, but hoo boy, you better would not have abducted the one the Shinobi wanted to protect. Elden Ring: Everything went to shit because family drama.

You know, one thing that makes the Soulsborne games so great is the fact that your character is an absolute nobody. You are not supposed to be some godlike being with powers beyond measure or the one who is fated to do great things. Sure, Dark Souls 1 has the Chosen Undead, but it becomes revealed quickly that the Chosen One trope is a farce and so it gets completely subverted. In Dark Souls 2 you are simply the Bearer of the Curse, just one of many who suffer from the curse. In Dark Souls 3 you get told straight up that you were the last they could ask, because you are the loser of the losers. In Bloodborne we play as some unlucky random person who got wrapped up in Yharnam's affair. In Demon's Souls our Slayer straight up gets enslaved to the Nexus out of sheer desperation of the Monumental. And in Sekiro we play as a single Shinobi, who can't take on a whole army himself. So he makes defense to his greatest offense and uses stealth and dirty tricks. Which leaves the Tarnished, the one who is played the most straight. Elden Ring has this amazing opening movie and we get to see the six Tarnished who will probably be the main bosses of the game and... ...one another... Our player character. Here is the thing. It was never meant that our character should win. In fact, in Soulsborne all odds are AGAINST our character. It is the fact that DESPITE everything they win, that is the theme of these games. Our character has only one thing going for them... They can't die. And therefore, only giving up is when they lost. It's a theme of overcoming, a theme of persevering, a theme of fighting a battle that should be unwinable, but isn't. You just have to try it again and again. And that is what I love about these games.

Sexuality Headcanon: I lean towards ace or demi for him, honestly

Gender Headcanon: Think of him usually as cis man, but can see perhaps agender as well

A ship I have with said character: Ciartorias, ofc 😭

A BROTP I have with said character: Orn, and I feel like in some ways it is a mentorship. My personal HC is that Arty is the youngest of Gwyn's knights and that he looks up to Ornstein. They do not see eye to eye on everything, but they rely on one another and have similar views on their duties. On the opposite side of that I think they'd make really good/fun/disastrous drinking buddies. If you add NK to that mix something is going to get broken. Maybe one of them.

Speaking of NK, I think he would also connect with Arty, but mostly for irritating the shit out of Ornstein together (see the question after next lol)

A NOTP I have with said character: I have to say, I can appreciate some Amanus stuff but I'm really not that into it overall. It just depresses me but not in the good way (lol you understand what I mean, it is angst I don't really enjoy).

A random headcanon: I think maybe we talked about this in chat before but I love the idea of him playing pranks on Ornstein constantly (oh yeah, like that one video of the son scaring his dad all the time lmao). NK/Arty Dream Team of irritating the captain.

I think he is also someone who needs to recharge often though and really appreciates alone time or some time in nature. Pretty common HC I think.

General Opinion over said character: He's kind, he's cool, he loves dogs, wish they kept his voice lines in the game that is all 😤

A ship I have with said character: He and Ornstein are best friends and life partners that is all 😭

A BROTP I have with said character: See Arty above! Also like Little said for the Gwynevere answer, NK lol. Both of his siblings, really. But I think NK and Gwynevere have more fun banter with one another. As far as Gwyndolin goes I think NK would be somewhat protective while also being really annoyed at their father for being so OVERprotective.

A NOTP I have with said character: Not really into the whole Solaire/NK thing. I get it, or at least, in theory I get it. Just not for me.

A random headcanon: My personal favorite name HC is still Gwynsen while he is in Anor Londo, and once he is deleted from existence, he picks up the name of Faraam from human devotees. I like it because the idea of a god living for thousands of years and having their name transition to something else over time is not so strange I think (going on the theory that they ARE actually gods in a sense - that's a whole can of worms ofc). Also wrt to the first name I'm just big on the Sen is NK theory - I like it a lot, and also I enjoy the idea that the fortress was used as a silver knight training ground sometimes (plus very few people in-game even know it's called Sen's Fortress which fits w/ his name being forgotten). I'd also just find it weird if Gwyn didn't name his firstborn after himself (obviously this isn't saying any name ppl use for him is wrong bc we legitimately don't know [even though I think a lot of ppl agree that Faraam IS the mostly likely]. Still, Gwynsen/Sen is just my fav). Ty for letting me ramble about that.

General Opinion over said character: Not sure if he is my favorite boss across the series, but he's definitely my favorite non-human character. I find his backstory really fascinating and parts of it are strangely relatable in unfortunate/stupid ways. I try to sunbro for him at least once a week bc I really do enjoy that fight (at least the second half) and I don't want to get rusty on it (I am rusty on it anyway - you fight any other thing ever and the minute you go back to NK you forget how to deal w/ delayed attacks gdi) 😭

B's log!! They had nogamin as a guest once too, the moving gravure portion was really cute!

The episode that Nogamin appeared in is one of my favs, I’ve watched it so many times! www I also vaguely remember Tarori talking about hanging out with Shugon and being impressed by his guitar/song skills. A shame they didn’t really talk about QUELL much but ig at the time QUELL was still fairly new.

i still can't believe i saw sleep token the last saturday. it feels so surreal, like a dream, i feel like floating in the clouds right now. it was my first concert ever too and my brain just can't catch up with it, like the boys were down there, i heard vessel sing in live and the rest of the boys play SO well. i will be eternally grateful to see them and that even with vessel sick they didn't cancel the concert, he pushed through and still did an amazing job when he didn't have to 😭♥️

that last night i had the most fun i have ever had in my life, and i got to fangirl with another girl in the toilet while waiting and then there was a guy sat next to me who was as equally intense as i was during the concert and when they played the offering we started to sing and dance it together out of nowhere and it was amazing, and when vessel started playing blood sport GOD we cried like babies

i literally can't listen to the songs they played because i sob with all the emotions i feel rn, i love them so much 😭💖
