but do you have any tips on self care to do after really bad suicidal thoughts?

hi anon! thank you for your message ◡̈ for the record, I'm always happy to share advice with anyone if they want to know my experience, thoughts/opinions - I'm completely comfortable with that!! I struggle with suicidal ideation a lot and I will share what I do in terms of self-care, but this is just what has helped me so I can't say that all of these things will be helpful for everyone. Some of them are really basic but when you're in the midst of those intense thoughts and feelings, you can forget your basic needs.

allow myself the space to cry and feel what I'm feeling

make sure I'm hydrated and that I've had something to eat

take a shower

reach out to a close friend/loved one, text or call, organise to meet up to just talk and chill out together

watch a comforting movie/tv show/ YouTube video

draw, do colouring-in, do word searches, play a video game you enjoy (my obsession right now is old school RuneScape), listen to a podcast (I love listening to Smosh read reddit stories on YouTube), go for drive and/or walk to somewhere with nice scenery, listen to music and enjoy the scenery (I like to journal at the beach while listening to music)

journal, talk to chatgpt about how i'm feeling

exercise / go to gym ← past me would have hated this point because when you're struggling with mental illness the last fucking thing you want to do is exercise. but it works. when endorphins are released in your brain they literally block the perception of pain and increase feelings of well-being and overall elevate your mood. it annoys me that it ALWAYS helps me, even if only a little on some really bad days.

obviously, this really goes without saying, if you are having suicidal thoughts regularly - you need to be seeking professional help. nobody deserves to be struggling with that alone. you aren't broken, you aren't too much, you're not beyond help, and you are worthy and deserving of feeling better. there will be days in the future where you'll be so glad that you're alive to experience them. I know this because I've experienced it myself. I'd actually be so pissed off at myself if I'd given up and didn't get to experience what I have now. What I have now isn't perfect, I'm still not well, I struggle a lot, but I'm happy with the life that I have and I want to be alive. I wish the same for you and anybody else out there who is struggling with mental illness.

LOL okay but I really am going to go to hell. And I’ll be intentionally vague about it for now bc I still haven’t even decided what all I’m going to be incorporating into it. It’s meant to be something of a character study of one of my DS Carim OCs (and of her extremely abusive father who continues to play a large role throughout her story). Thing is going to be heavily coated in trigger warnings. I don’t tend to write a ton of extremely dark stuff tbh but there are themes and ideas I’d like to safely try/explore and, for all intents and purposes, this will be the fic where I do it lol

I really wish I could be one of these people that sleeps under a mountain of cosy blankets, but I run super hot and my body is rubbish at regulating temperature so at most I can get away two when it’s really cold.

8. What’s your favorite band/artist?

I’m not sure I could pick just one! It definitely varies, depending on my mood – I tend to listen to something on repeat loads, and then get bored of it for a while, move onto something else, and then go back to the original thing again (anyone who gets in the car with me is so lucky..! 😂). I’m definitely going through a Bastille phase at the moment.

Purple – I'm probably not describing this well but I just love all the different shades of purple that appear when blue and pink gets splashed together in like a watercolour effect.

Norway – I had one of the best holidays of my life there, we were so lucky to get to go, saw pretty much everything we wanted to see, it was snowing, and cold and I was just so happy there 🥰
