Sidney Crosby/Nick Suzuki, Rated G, 15k
What the fuck was Sidney Crosby doing in any yarn craft store, let alone the one Nick just happened to work in. - How Nick becomes Sid's crochet coach, and then his friend, and then something more.

Not only are seniors admitted to hospital more than any other age group, they also stay longer and use more resources while they’re there. Their time there increases their susceptibility to delirium, which then makes it more likely that they’ll need to come back. It’s a devastating cycle: in effect, our health care system is working against itself.
Read “Why Is No One Talking About Hospital-Acquired Delirium?” (November 2017) by Sydney Loney at thewalrus.ca.

----- IT seems the evil woman is getting a ‘random’ search by a couple officers. Her hands are cuffed behind her back as two police search her pockets while their supervisor catalogues it all.
It seems her pockets are... comically and impossibly large.
“... small-mouth bass...“
“... bowling pin...“
One of the officers yelps as a snap is heard from the confines of her pocket. He winces and pulls his hand free.
“ ... mouse trap... “
“... rubber chicken... “
“... funny eyeball glasses...”
Taryn tilts her head to the right. “ ι've never ѕeen тнoѕe вeғore ιn мy lιғe. “
“... bazooka...”
Then to the left. “ ι нave a perмιт ғor тнaт. “
“... picture of Calloway’s wife... “
“What?!”
“ υн oн. “
Taryn’s expression is a smug grin as the full-sized picture frame is snatched up by the supervisor. Sure enough, within the frame is a picture of the man’s wife in sexy lingerie, complete with a phone number little handwritten note from her that reads: Call me lover!
“Margaret!” The supervisor throws down the pictures and turns back to Taryn. “You son of a bitch!” The other two officers step in so he doesn’t deck the redhead on the spot as she laughs.
“ gee, ι тнoυgнт yoυ нad a ѕenѕe oғ нυмor. aғтer all, yoυ мarrιed нer! “

Daniel Fishel: When I first came across your work, it was on Tumblr. It might of actually been someone reposting one of your images on Twitter and it was actually some of your sketch book pages which are actually really beautiful. How important is working in a sketch book for your creative process? Do you ever feel like your sketch book get's in the way of what you want to make in your commercial work? Taryn Gee: A sketchbook to me is really important because I seem to do a lot of finished drawings in it. I think I use it more for an emotional output first and then as a practice book. Sometimes I'm just too unpredictable with my sketchbook and that wouldn't be good for commercial use, though I would love the relaxation that my sketchbook brings when working on editorial pieces, haha. I do find that it does get in the way of my commercial work, because I'm drawing so much in it that I'm not making as many finished pieces for my portfolio.  So your currently living in the GTA! How does it feel to be a working Canadian illustrator? Are you engaged in the illustration community in Toronto at all? Canada is great!  The illustration community is awesome, though I tend to hermit myself in Oakville.   I wish I were able to be more involved with other illustrators. You live with a couple other young illustrators correct? How important is it for you to be connected with other illustrators who are around your age and mileage into your career? I live with a couple that graduated from the BAA illustration program at Sheridan with me.  I have some close friends that I stay in contact with since school and it's really helped me be able to talk to someone who can think of concepts in the same way or understand what I'm going through.  At the same time, I also really value the friends who aren't illustrators because I find it's refreshing to be around people with different ways of thinking. What art school did you go to and do you think it helped you a lot to get you where you are today? I went to Sheridan and it's really a great community for illustrators and creatives!  There are some great teachers there that have really helped me get where I am today. They seem to be adding some great staff and make the program even better. I would recommend it to folks in Canada who want to be illustrators. I see that your portfolio is a mix of illustrations that are painted and some that are digitally colored. Do you have a preference or do you just work on the assignment with which ever feels right? I usually digitally colour all of my work now. Previously I had painted my finals in gouache and drawn on top of it, which is something I see in my sketchbook now. I discovered that I am a crazy tweaker when it comes to colour and it really helps to have the flexibility of the computer. What's the most difficult thing you've come across as an illustrator not to far into their career? Upon graduation I wasn't really prepared for what life would be like promoting my work and trying to live as an adult.  I think I'm pretty much living the "starving artist" stereotype. In school we were warned about how lonely it can get with everyone moving away after graduation, but I can really feel it now. It helps to surround yourself with people you love and stay in contact with the friends you've graduated with!  There's a lot of stuff I need to figure out on my own, like I recently attempted to write (and had a lot of help writing) a contract to work with a film recently and struggled so much!  It was a reminder that I always need to be working hard and learning!  If you could move anywhere in the world, where would you move and why? Wherever my friends and family are. They are the source of my love and inspiration, I could not be far from them.  Though, if there is a place that is constantly autumn, that would also be very tempting too, haha What artist, illustrators, film makers, performance artist, anything that is really getting your creative muscles twitching lately? I love autumn, so just spending my time outside by nature right now is amazing.  My environment and the people I am around are very inspiring to me - I love putting my friends in my work.  It helps me put a small personal touch into my commercial work.  I have been listening to a weird mix of music lately:  C2C, what is out of the new Arcade Fire album (I am so excited to hear the rest of it), Yann Tiersen, Tycho and A.M. Architect. I also have a wall of framed art right above my work space.  On my wall so far is Katy Dockrill, Morico, Nimit Malavia, Irma Kniivila, Marco Cibola, Kisung Koh, Kyle Tonkens, Kelsey Heinrichs, Hannah Wilson and Greg Pizzoli.  I recently added work by Jen Collins, Byron Eggenschwiler and some original Jori Boltons!  I'm currently framing some work by Kagan Mcleod and Ashley Mackenzie and I really want to buy a print from Asaf Hanuka.  My wall space is running out and I had to (very sadly) take some work down.  There are so many amazing artists and illustrators out there, I just want to buy so many pieces and frame them. Lastly, textiles are very inspiring to me, I spend a lot of time looking at yarn and trying to match colours to make things with. Any advice or words of encouragement for other young illustrators like yourself who are just starting out? Don't stop drawing!  Love it and never stop working hard. Also we should be friends. Last words? Thank you!
