Hour Nazari and Tayo Michaels are so important to me I need them to get everything they've ever wanted and I don't care if that's contradictory

I'm trying to figure out the ages of the Supacell main characters. Mainly because I'm finding it really hard for some of them to get a proper grip on that.

Dionne & Michael: We know how old these two are. We get Dionne's age given as 30 (birthdate in March 1994), and Michael can't be more than about a year older or younger because it's heavily implied they were in the same grade in school.

Sabrina is probably also around that age; maybe a little younger. 28-30 seems like a good age to get to Senior Nurse with a slight delay. She does come across a bit younger when dressed for clubbing, but I think it fits.

Sharleen is the younger sister. We're seeing her working on a dissertation, meaning she's working on a PhD? Or just a Master's? Which I think puts her in the 26-28 range depending on how long her chosen course was and how much delay was caused by her provably atrocious taste in boyfriends (not that Sabrina is much better there) I don't think these two are more than two or three years apart, either.

Andre is older; mid-thirties at least, probably even early '40s. Old enough to have a teenage son without having it be a teenage pregnancy on either his or Aisha's part

But those were the easy ones. The rest is a bit harder to estimate.

Krazy is probably mid-thirties. Not so old that the age difference between him and Sharleen gets really creepy, but a bit on the skeezy side none-the-less. I guess he could be a bit younger, but given that most of the gang he runs with is known as the 'olders' and they all look around that age, it seems a decent estimate.

Rodney could be anywhere between about 17 and 25, depending on exactly when 'getting a hostel at 16' actually happened. I'm going for 22-ish, so on the older end of that because he refers to Tazer as a 'street kid', implying Tazer is younger even. Also I don't buy Calvin as a teenager still. But he's definitely on the young side in his 20's

And then Tazer. Tazer is the hardest to estimate for me. We get Rodney's implication of 'street kid' and he does look very young when he's taking care of his grandmother, but he does a pretty damn good job of projecting bulk and menace otherwise, making him look a bit older. He's still pretty cut up about his mother leaving -- and on rewatch, that happened a lot more recently than I first thought. I thought it was about two years prior, but it could be as little as 6 months or so. Although the most recent picture we see of Tazer and his mother does at least still feature Josh Tedeku as Tazer, and not the younger teenager we see in another pic. Which just makes it harder to tell Tazer's age, really. So although I don't really buy it from the actor, Tazer could be as young as 18. Ultimately I think I'd put his age at around 20 but I'm definitely open to other arguments.

I've got some Supacell stuff queued up for tomorrow, but since I've also decided I'm going to talk about it for a video later, I just feel like sharing these miscellaneous thoughts as well.

Somewhat random, but as a short older sister myself, I have to wonder, am I the only one who kept getting surprised by how small Sabrina actually was compared to the guys? For some reason it didn't fully hit me, until she stood next to Rodney at the hospital. Maybe it's because most of her scenes were with her sister or patients lying down, but the actress definitely makes Sabrina feel like a taller person. And then you see her scolding Tayo...

Also, obviously in season one Michael and Dionne's romance was at the center of the story, which I loved, but to put my shipping goggles on for a second for potential other couples, I kinda could see some seeds planted for Sabrina and Rodney. Mostly because their personalities would balance each other out, and I feel like they ended up being alone together multiple times in the latter half of the season. Plus I enjoyed how he cheered her on for being violent. IDK, maybe that's just me as well.

Lastly (for now) I'm definitely interested in the potential dynamics between Andre, Tazer, and Rodney, because the three of them definitely have to deal with class in a different way than Sabrina and Michael, and since Andre is a father, Tazer kinda serves as a cautionary tale for him and his son AJ. And, because we know Rodney's mother is white, that means his missing father was the Black parent, so how they'll relate to each other could give us some good stuff.

初めまして！

2024年4月～12月、フィリピンルソン島北部コルディリエラ地区、バギオに滞在している、はるなです♪

イン���ーン先のアカウントでブログを書いていたのですが、自分のアカウントを作りました！👏

そちらにも以前掲載したものとほぼ同じになりますが、まずは自分のことについて書きたいと思います(*^^*)

大学

　大阪大学外国語学部外国語学科フィリピン語専攻の３年生です。今は大学を１年休学し、バギオに滞在しています。

　なぜフィリピン語専攻を選んだの？と、大学に入学してからほぼ毎日といえるほど聞かれるのですが、、(^^;

　小学生の頃から英語を勉強していましたが、英語を話せる人なんて今時いくらでもいるよなあというところから何か人と違う自分の武器が欲しい、誰もやってないことをしてみたい！という考えに至り、外国語学部に興味を持ちました。

　そのなかでもフィリピン語を選んだ理由は、

・将来観光業に就きたいので、日本人がよく観光に行くところ

・治安がよさそう

・アルファベットだから新しく文字を覚える必要がない

・原住民とスペイン、アメリカ統治時代のものが共存している���自の文化

・高校の英語の先生がフィリピン人だったため身近に感じられた

などたくさんありますが、外国語学部の専攻紹介のパンフレットにセブ島留学の体験記があり、きれいなビーチでココナッツジュースを飲んでいる写真に惹かれたのが決め手でした(笑)結局今はセブ島とは遠く離れたバギオに滞在していますが(^^;

　フィリピン語力はまだまだ発展途上であり、日々言語習得の難しさを痛感しています(-_-;)

好きなこと

ダンス

　大学ではストリートダンスサークルに所属し、ロックダンスを練習しています！ある年代以上の人には、SMAPの中居くんがやってるダンスといえば通じるそうです(^^)

歌うこと♬

　小学校高学年から高校生まで合唱部に所属しており、歌うことが大好きです(^^♪渡航してまだ１週間と少しですが、すでに日本のカラオケが恋しいです(笑)

　

フィリピン滞在期間の前半が終了し、初めての異国の地での生活やコルディリエラ・イフガオ州の訪問を通じて、たくさんの貴重な経験をすることができました！

先日7/17-21までイフガオを訪問したのですが、その様子について次から小分けに書きたいと思っています(^^)♪

University

 I’m a student majoring in Philippine Studies at the School of Foreign Studies,Osaka University, Japan. I have been in Baguio for a week right now. Mastering Filipino is very difficult…😢

〇Why did I choose Filipino for my major?

・I wanted to learn something different from other students!

・My future goal is working for tourism, and many Japanese people visit Philippine for their sightseeing

・The Philippines are safe!

・No need to learn new characters because Filipino can be spelled in Alphabets

・Mixed culture of the indigenous’s one, spanish and Americans was interesting for me

・My favorite English teacher of high school was Filipina

・I wanted to visit Cebu and see a beautiful beach while drinking coconut juice:)

How can I meet with CGN?

 I was planning to stay in the Philippines to improve my Filipino for a long time. In addition, I wanted to do something that I can communicate with people in the Philippines, not just learn something at the University on my own. I searched on the internet and found some blogs written by internship students of CGN. I was fascinated by them because they had experienced many kinds of things they wanted to do.

Gagalingan ko na talaga, promise. Bibitawan ko na ang maangas agenda ko para mag-focus sa something na magma-matter in the end. Sabi nga ni Natalie Cole, 'We're starting over again'. Hahaha, daming alam.

Tatay ko nga pala nasa hospital. May hypertension. Hays...okay, nagka high blood. May edad na tatay ko kaya ayon. Nasobrahan yata sa physical activities pero ewan.

Iniisip ko na kung kailan ako magapagupit. O kaya magpapalit ng glasses ko. As someone na legally blind, jehahzjfjglisfbk. Hehe, sorry nag-type ako nang walang glasses.

Also, gusto ko lang sabihin na ang goal ko this school year ang mag with high honors! Promise na yan. Legit na talaga to mga kababayan. Kaya sabi nga ni Michael Martin Murphy, 'Maybe this time'. Oo, totoo yan. Nalaman ko kasi recently na para raw makapasa sa maraming CETs, kailangan matataas ang grades nung high school. Na-pressure ako nang slight and parang na-encourage ako na seryosohin academics ko. Jusko, it has been 2 years since nagkaroon ako ng mataas na general average. It's sad.

If there is one thing that I strive for sure, it is to pass the ACET and UPCAT! Actually, one night bigla nalang ibinulong sa akin ng isang espiritu na, 'Pst, BS Psych ka for Pre-Med and go to Med school after to be a doctor'. Pero to be frank, it's too stressing to even think about! Personally, a better option is asawahin ako in the future tas magnanakaw kami ng bangko together para yumaman. Sayang, hindi kasi ako isang corrupt politician para gawin yun. Edi sana hindi lang bangko ang pwedeng nakawin, kaban pa ng bayan. Lugi talaga.

Pero alam niyo ba na gusto kong mag-Ateneo since nung bata pa ako? Of course, hindi pa. Second post ko palang to baliw ba kayo? Shoutout kay Alyssa Valdez, sayo ko nalaman ang univ na yun. Palagi ko kasing nakikita sa TV scorebug namin nun yung 'ADMU'. Tapos yung mga time na yun, prime pa ni Alyssa Valdez. Tapos pinapanood ko lang nanay kong naglalaro ng Zuma. Grabe ang tagal na talaga.

Anyway, good luck and God bless sa lahat. Nawa'y paghusayan natin ang pag-aaral at maligo tayo araw-araw. Bawal na ang pagiging masyadong tamad kasi baka maging pabigat sa lipunan. Di pwede yun. Masama yun.

I swear na kaya natin to at kakayanin natin to dahil time doesn't wait for anyone. Hindi tayo hihintayin ni time! So, have faith in yourself. Have faith in the process. Have faith in faith. Atsaka please, maligo nang araw-araw.

Powers, Personality, and Feelings

I had a discussion a few days ago with @geekynichelle about how/why Tazer's power manifested as invisibility, when that's... maybe not the most useful power for a street gang kid.

But on the other hand, a street gang kid whose mother 'abandoned' him, who's lost the leader/what passes for a father or leader figure of a sort he had in Krazy and is seeing his influence on the world wither as other gangs encroach on what he sees as his territory -- well, that street kid might feel very, very invisible indeed.

What if we apply that kind of logic to the other characters and their powers?

Andre is pretty basic in that regard... he wants, no, needs to be a strong man for his son, and he gets to be. Literally.

Rodney needs things to go fast. He's running out of time and out of patience for making enough money so he can provide for himself, his mother and probably also his sister. He's also running himself ragged doing it. (It's not a realistic wish, but it does appear to be a genuine one). Everything needs to move faster. So now he does. (Looking at it this way -- this kid is young. My initial estimate of 22 may be overestimating it)

Sabrina has her hands full all day, taking care of her patients and her sister. She's putting in lots of overtime and doing a lot of extra work. She could use an extra pair of hands. Or just not needing to use her hands to lift her load at all.

Now, Michael... he's actually a bit harder to explain in this kind of logic, especially because he activates before that great time-jump.

If the time jump had been his first activation, I might have said that at that exact moment, he's at the happiest he's ever been and he'd want freeze time there, to preserve that moment forever. But he activates a few hours before that, when he's still anticipating that perfect moment.

But maybe that's enough. Maybe he's anticipating it so strongly... and then he gets stabbed. Can't let that happen. So he gets to turn back time.

What that doesn't explain is why he also gets teleportation along with the time-travel. Yes, yes, space-time is one thing, Time and Relative Dimension in Space; I don't have a TARDIS as my profile pic for nothing. But that's a different show and it's not even on Netflix. :D

And the time-freezing is actually even weirder. Because it's highly localised. We see other people watch Michael move around the frozen people on cameras. If he'd really frozen space-time nobody but Michael and/or whoever he brought along should even know anything happened. I think this is also how Michael's power is different from Hiro Nakamura's. Hiro could freeze time entirely IIRC.

In a fully frozen-time world, Michael moving around while nothing else is could look like teleportation without being it. But no, he's actually teleporting, not freezing the world while he takes a walk.

In the rest of the show, Michael's powers manifest a lot more as teleportation and local time-freezes than actual rewinding or travelling in time. And sure, those fit with the fact that he's a delivery guy (but that's his job, not his personality), and possibly even that, after what he found out in his time jump, now he really does want to be everywhere at once in order to stop what he (thinks he) knows is going to happen. But at that point he's long-activated. Did it still influence his powers?

　せっかくフィリピン語を勉強するなら在学中にフィリピンに長期滞在したいとはかねてから考えていましたが、さらにせっかく滞在するなら大学に通うだけじゃなくてなにか成し遂げたい、フィリピンの人々に還元できる活動をしたいと思い、日本人がフィリピンで活動している、インターンを募集している団体をインターネットで探したところ、CGNに出会いました。とはいえ具体的にやりたいことが決まっているわけではなかったので、幅広い活動に取り組んでいるインターン生のブログを見て魅力的に感じ、直接連絡させていただきました...！

In addition, I wanted to do something that I can communicate with people in the Philippines, not just learn something at the University on my own. I searched on the internet and found some blogs written by internship students of CGN. I was fascinated by them because they had experienced many kinds of things they wanted to do.

MY JOURNEY AS A PUPIL

When I was a kid I always dream to be a seaman

And when I was on the first grade I played soccer with my friends

When I was on the second and third grade I also played soccer but that changed when I was on the fifth grade.

2019 when the covid 19 started I was on Bacolod at that time we need to go back here in tacurong because my grandparents cant go out because of the lockdown.

When I was also on the fourth grade the pandemic era I have an online class its hard to be because I need to wake up every 6oclock and I was a returnee in NDTC I don’t have friends because it’s a online class but all changed when I was on the fifth grade. I met my bestfriends in there Josef,Michael,Carl,Paul and others. I didn’t have any friends when I was on the first day. The surroundings seems kinda new I sat at the back seat with a girl. At the first month I have friends already we bonded together played together. That is the time that my friends influenced me basketball they teached me how to play. And I liked the game. But my friend said he’s changing schools hes going to Canada and the other one is going to pilot elem school. The next year he left Mindanao but my friend told something they kept it a secret but didn’t tell me they said it was a surprise at the 4th quarter exam he showed up they said hes going back cause the flight ws cancelled but after the exam he left. Timeskip to grade 6 when it was  the first day of school I saw my friend paul sitting at the middle I called him and said dun tayo sa likod maganda dun and he said yes few hours later carl jay appeared he quickly sat at the next of paul. But saldy appeared he said at the assembly wow dami ng mga new pupils I bully ko kayo bukas he said skip to the first subject carl and I maked jokes all day we all laughed together at the back with paul,atheer,carl and I the end
