EW Lulla-Cola AU (TBATF Crossover): Todd Errors

This drawing is about Todd on his first dates with 6 different women before he was introduced to Lux by Eduardo. Yes, that involves Vivianne Rich and Tiffany Dahmer. But to clarify; Todd met Tiffany at an end-of-the year graduation party hosted in an apartment room at the college he attended. Also, not to mention he encountered Vivianne at the secondary school Edd and his friends attended. Over his years from highschool to college; he grows exhausted and betrayed by stunts these women initiated; except Vivianne due to parental pressure. The guy has endured this. Failed dating partners and girlfriends that didn't work out. Yes, he may had his heart broken once...or twice. Finding love is quite difficult. But give the guy credit; that took courage to try seek a romantic relationship. Though those errors had trapped him to develop certain tendencies.

queerbaiting !!! this is queerbaiting no question about it!!! literally baiting people to buy something with the intent of fooling them into seeing queerness!!!

ableism !!!!!! the final punchline to this comic is mocking psychotic people !!!!!!! edd being "delusional" with puppets isn't funny!!!

certain eddsworld crew members also openly work with people who work on tbatf which is not the greatest considering, disregarding all the tbatf creator controversies outside of the comics, the fact that tbatf is filled with n*zi imagery, a "joke" that is in such poor taste i dont feel comfortable talking about it, and several instances of racism.

not to mention modern eddsworld getting rid of nearly every interesting secondary character to push the new side characters nobody cares about because they're unfunny and annoying. any character left standing has been stripped of all intrigue (let's be fr does eduardo need redemption??)

additionally, the canon queer characters have been sidelined for pride month this year yet again. the only improvement theyve gotten is BEING THERE this time which is the bare minimum. they were in the background if ur curious. unfortunately, no, edd is not canonically aroace and tom is not canonically bi, but i wish they were to justify their focus in the pride pieces this year . i do genuinely like the inclusion of the queer members of eddsworld's staff tho!

The ableist joke in Beaster Bunny, if you watched that (the one where Tom looks at a bunch of clearly grossly drawn disabled kids and says they're "very.... (pause) special kids.."), as well as the pedophile joke. He's said both that 1. he wrote the entirety of Beaster Bunny and 2. that someone else wrote the pedo joke, but either way he let that shit slide. He looked at that and said "yes, let's advertise this as a more kid-friendly show, and let's also include a joke about pedophilia!"

Defends multiple pedophiles (Patryk Dudulewicz is a pro-shipper and actively reposted a shitload of porn of "technically she's 1000 years old, she just LOOKS like a child!" characters, Christopher Bingham has s/a allegations he refuses to address)

Defends the TBATF team (if you don't know why they're also pretty horrid people, you can look it up for more info- basically they made Red Leader a Nazi and try to make him sympathetic and cool, they completely butchered everything likeable about the characters (most notably Edd, who they've made into a completely unlikeable selfish douchebag), they sexualize every single woman in the comic, been very racist to Romani and Native American people, made jokes about male s/a, and there's a lot of shitty things the creators have done outside of the comic too.)

Actively replaced Tom's alcoholism with food in Beyond and the comics. It's pretty common knowledge that Tomska has had horrible issues with his body image and how he perceives himself, and that's just so fucked up to make his body (even if it is the character, it's BASED on Tomska) a joke.

Said that NONE of Legacy was canon. Trying to completely erase all of Tomska's work on the series, and shitting on Tomska's work and saying nothing he did mattered on the show (even when he left the show specifically due to the stress he was under working extremely hard to please the fandom and keep his friends legacy intact). Even if you don't like Legacy, you have to admit that's just a shitbag thing to say to someone who actively tried to help keep Edd's memory alive.

I’ve always seen tord and Matt’s dynamic as lovey dovey , of course with angst here and there ( not mentioning the whole Matt as red leader AU I’ve been fixated on for MONTHS and will not shut up about ) but I’ve been thinking about how fans see Tord

The TBATF version and stuff like that makes Tord out to be an emotionless monster and I wanna experiment with that , what if Matt was so blinded by his need of validation that he crawls to Tord again and again no matter how many times Tord manipulates or uses him to get his job done ( aka getting blood on Matt’s hands as in k!lling people so he wouldn’t have to ) , Tord giving him some love and Matt eating it up and being left there afterwards with nothing . Even after Matt fell out of love with him he was stuck in this cycle that he couldn’t escape from . Romantic or not , he loved Tord . He was an emotionless puppet who did anything Tord asked him to to and nothing remained , it didn’t matter who he had to k!ll or how many beatings from Tord he had to endure , he was going to get the love , no matter what the costs were

However, you Hit the nail with the panel format issue, Dont get me wrong, telling an arc in few panels have also been used also in the eddsworld classic era before but it was fun to read cuz they weren't heavily storylin arc ( example : Mystery ) (1/2)

no worries about respect, people are bound to disagree! ^_^ i also love discussing things so heres a little bit of my perspective here (also sorry if this ask was a two-part i think my inbox ate the 2nd part of it)

i feel it would be better for these longer comics to be made into shorts instead of comics. the weekly upload of 4 panel story comics is a nightmare. ive criticised TBATF for the same problem, uploading 4-panel comics in what is meant to be an outrageously long webcomic with lore and a lot of events. theres already a remedy for this because eddsworld HAS done longer comics before, and even if it hadn't its never too late to break the imaginary rules v, not everything, especially longer ideas with dead air in the middle, has to be formatted as a four-panel funny

as for the comic itself

its bound to make fans incredibly impatient knowing the next 5+ weeks are going to be about this particular thing that has very little pay off

it feels worth mentioning the pizza time comic which is another 4 parter which lacked any substance and left a lot of fans incredibly disappointed. if you want to put your ocs into your comics as part of the crew there is nothing wrong with that really but youve got to understand that a lot of people are not going to be interested in the mishaps of oc 1 and oc 2 instead of edd and his friends in a series called Eddsworld

very long and i personally did not find it entertaining at all

the problem is definitely not that theyre multi-parters but rather that theyre not self-contained multi-parters. edd made plenty of multi-part comics! but each of them also work as stand-alones, see:

this style of comics, funnies, originates from news papers - so if you were going to make a multi-part comic you would HAVE to make it funny on its own because its no good to get the paper one week, look at the funnies and the funnies dont even have a joke (or at least not a joke thats funny without the extra context). people need to be able to tune in whenever and still get the joke. the modern multi-parters dont account for that and instead make the next part without consideration as to whether its REALLY funny enough to be made into a comic or not.

the comics are made so you can crack the jokes youd have a hard time putting in the show, either because theyre too short to be animated on their own or because the situation is too specific to be organically put in the show (like the rubber one above). if the comic isnt going to have a joke one week, maybe its better to store that in the idea bank for an actual eddisode!

Only week left until Mother's Day. Toby sat and drew, looking at the picture. It shows his mother. She was wearing a bright red dress and had a beautiful smile. Gorgeous...

But... Tobias couldn't get to know her... Because she was killed after he was born... But he really wanted to get to know her better.

It was then that he began to ask everyone about her. Everyone had many details about her. Sergeant Brianna mentioned that his mother had a kind, gentle maternal side, but that was the only thing she knew about her since they met too late. Vlahd didn't know Toby's mom very well either. But he only knew that she was an understanding person.

A German named Richard/Dick, he also didn't know Toby's mother well, but he liked her sense of humor, and according to him, most of it passed to Toby.

But the one who knew Toby's mom well was Patrick. They were good friends in life, and according to him, she refused an abortion, simply because she wanted a child. Too bad she didn't have time to stay with him longer. The second person who knew a lot about Toby's mother was his nanny, Bet. She often told Toby about his mother. Especially the fact that she and his father were once too close. And finally, Tobias's father - Tord, he did not like the topic with his wife, and only once mentioned her name. It seemed that the Leader of the Red Army hated her, and very much. So does Toby.

And so Toby hesitated for a long time to ask his father to tell him about his mother. But it was necessary. He approached his father. The Red Leader was reading a book at that time, so he did not notice how Toby approached him:

- Hi, Dad. - Tobias greeted. Tord nodded to indicate that he was listening.

- Could you tell me about my mother? - Toby asked. Tord slammed the book loudly, showing his irritation:

- Tobias... You know you shouldn't bring this topic up with your mom. - Tord answered him rather harshly. Toby felt himself begin to cry.

- But... Many say almost nothing, and you treat it as if you despise her, and never, on her birthday, April 5, visit her... I just want to know about my mother! - Toby stamped his foot, ready to burst into tears.

- Are you going to cry? - his father asked sternly and harshly. - Toby, tears are a sign of weakness, and you, as a future leader, should not show it.

- B-but... tears are normal...- Toby tried to protest, but was slapped.

- No, it's not okay! I forbid you to cry, Toby! Forget all about your mom! - Tord was already starting to lose his temper. Toby, who had fallen from the blow, was rubbing his cheek.

- Forget? But... She's... Your wife... And why do I want to know a lot about her?

But this was apparently the last straw for Tord. He grabbed Toby by the neck and pressed him against the wall, starting to choke him:

- Your mother was a mistake of nature. And you! Same mistake as her! - Tord yelled at him, squeezing Tobias's neck with his robotic arm. - You are such a nonentity, like your mother, that it is disgusting to look at both of you, at the way you sob. Why else do you think I killed her?

- Y-you?! Killed my mom?! Toby's eyes widened in horror. - But why?!

Tord chuckled like a complete psychopath.

- I was interested to see how she suffers here carrying you, Toby. And she held out long enough before she ran away. And so, when you were born and she was weakened... I killed her! - Tord laughed and it seemed that he was definitely a psychopath:

- The same fate awaits you, Toby. If you do not obey ... - The Red Leader took out a gun:

- I'll kill you too. Now... Get out of here, and no mention of your mother in my presence! You are a mistake of nature, and a mistake of nature cannot have a mother! - Tord lowered his hand and Toby crashed. He got up and ran out the door. Now he needs to find Bet.

The next day, the boys walked in the park and discussed Mother's Day. The tallest is Ethan, who is also Toby's cousin, asked him:

- Toby? What about your mom? Everyone knows who your father is, but what about your mother? Isn't she an important part of the Red Army?

Toby stopped.

- Ethan... I don't have a mother. I'm a mistake of nature, and a mistake of nature... Can't have a mother... - Toby began to wipe away his tears. - My father... It was he who killed my mother... Right after I was born...

Ethan, hearing this, hugged his cousin from behind.

- Don't worry, Tobias... We will resurrect your mother and you can celebrate mother's day...

Look, we all love assholes, and the ew gang is just made of 4 bastards who would probably beat eachother up over petty shit, but if we have to APPARENTLY feel something for them and take them seriously, maybe you should write them as likeable assholes? You know, a character you enjoy watching because. They're entertaining? Instead of making them selfish dickheads?

Idk if I can really talk about the ew characters being ooc in general, since let's be real: none of the eddsworld characters have a set personality, they change based on the eras

But at the same time, if you're giving them a specific personality or just fit with the general gist the fanbase has for certain characters (Edd being the "tired dad who still cares for his friends" person, for example), and you expect the audience to understand their actions..... DON'T MAKE THEM GO OOC FFS

If you've established that, in this case (then again I might be wrong since I've never completely read tbatf and I refuse to) Edd looks for his friends even if he might be an ass at times, you can't just have him ignore them literally bleeding to death for whatever reason (was it character development? really lol). If anything, you can still have the gag, but let him go "aw fuck my friends are probably a bit more important than cola"

Tom is either ignored or used for dumb jokes and honestly, good for him, at least he isn't tainted

Does Matt even have some character beside "ahahahahahhahahahhahaha vain ginger says he's pretty"?

And last but not least, Tord is literally a 101 on how to NOT write villains, the fanbase is filled to the brim with better representations of Red Leader lmao

okay im sorry but i keep thinking about Jon's justification for siding with the TBATF crew. There's so much I have to say so I'm gonna do it in bullet points so I can keep all my thoughts together-- I hope thats okay. (sources from tbatf-callout and here because holy shit is it hard to find archives of this stuff.)

He's weighing his own experience with two sexual assault allegations and the person who was suicide baited by Jax.

He, himself, is someone on the Eddsworld crew. The TBATF crew are very obviously invested in Eddsworld, and appear to want to be involved with the production of the show itself on some level (see: Jax being a fucking mod on their server for a while, the art she's produced for them, the fact that they've been tagging Matt Lobster in their tweets, etc.). Of fucking course they aren't going to be rude to Jon, he's a fucking artist on the goddamn show. Idk about you, but I'd probably be extra nice to someone like that if I were in Jax or Kenz's position.

The TBATF team were calling their detractors "dEddheads." Regardless of how you feel about the allegations, using that sort of term against anyone in the Eddsworld fandom is INCREDIBLY disrespectful. A crew member on the show of all people should fucking know this.

The fucking scene where edd is sexually assaulted (1) (2) (3) and its played off as a joke. I don't think I need to comment on why that's fucked up. (note the ""disclaimer"" that they put in only AFTER people rightfully asked them what the fuck they were thinking.)

Even after all of this-- the sexual assault allegations, the suicide baiting allegations, the use of the term "deddhead," and the rape joke that they tried to damage control, Jon (who, again, is a member of the show the tbatf crew loves) believes that his experience outweighs everything else.

Jon is an official member of the Eddsworld crew. I need to stress that. I feel like theres a big fat difference between a fan defending TBATF and a fucking CREW MEMBER defending them.

What kind of fucking internal rot does the crew have where they keep protecting shitty people? what the fuck is wrong with them?

I think it'd be one thing if the crew had just, like... made a bad joke and recognized it and apologized or something like that. hell, if they had just... acknowledged that the assault scene with edd specifically was fucked up and that they were sorry and wouldnt do it again and ended up actually doing better, i wouldnt have even brought it up. but instead they doubled down on it, and they tried to say edd "liked it" only AFTER everyone blew up on them. and this isnt even to mention the fucking irl sexual assault allegations or the suicide baiting or any of that which, yknow, kinda seems MORE than just a "fuck up" that wasnt "malicious with their intentions" or whatever.

God, I hate this fucking crew.

jon is such a fucking lost cause at this point. if he doesn't recognize by now that this shit is not only real but is also only going to get worse if he just stands by, who KNOWS when it's finally gonna start hitting him. the longer he just leaves these people like this the more people are gonna get roped into it and get hurt. what he needs is to take a step back and really weigh their actions towards other people versus their actions towards him. and it looks like what he wants is the exact opposite.

so far, i've noticed a running trend with the entire eddsworld crew, not just jon: people don't stop to think about what they're doing before they do it. none of the writers stopped to think about putting a pedo joke OR and ableist joke in beaster bunny. bing didn't stop to think that antagonizing a whole group of people for liking a ship is a really shitty thing to do, ESPECIALLY after a lot of the drama taking place died 3-4 years ago. and now jon.

it's abundantly clear he's not thinking critically about this.

and while i would say that what we need to do is to tell him to get off his ass and do something about it (which we should still do), if it takes less time for teenagers to recognize what's going on compared to a grown ass man who probably knows about even MORE shitty things these people have done...

he shouldn't be in a respected position in the first place.
