This is just going to be a quick and basic theory so forgive me.🥹

Prolly why all girls Jacks ever kissed died (including his first Fox) was because he never really admitted to himself that he was in love — or at least never allowed himself to. There was always attraction, yes, but never to a point where he became human enough. Evangeline asked him if he loved Tella, Aurora and The Fox but he said NO each time.

We know that Love is a Fate’s weakness as it makes them human and most Fates would rather kill than become human.

Our boy Jacks is always confused if he’s in love or it’s curse in effect. I think the only time the curse will break is if Jacks sacrifice, finally admit that he’s in love and truly become human.

I think it's safe to say that none of us really knew just how important that letter Evangeline wrote to her future self would become.

JACKS: APPLE THEORY 🍎

Really leaning towards the theory that the apple suppresses any attraction or human emotion. A small amount of attraction could tempt Jacks to kiss (which is his curse), he’s undoubtedly attracted to Evangeline, hence the unknowing need to consume apple when near her.

In his POV, he was unaware he was already tossing an apple and it was a reminder for him to leave — in that POV he seemed utterly amused with Evangeline.

Unlike any other girls, he’s never stopped himself from kissing anyone, including Tella, but he always fought the urge to kiss Evageline despite the ridiculous amount of time they’ve spent together which means our sweet girl Eva is special to the Prince of Hearts.

PS: He was super certain he won’t kiss Evangeline at the start of OUABH but he sure seemed amused/attracted from the start. I was wondering if he already knew Evangeline even before they met at the Church.

rant….solely about APPLES.

With the lil teaser via Stephanie:

i’d like to state that this is sooooooo important to the breaking of the curse.

from the first book it’s established that Evangeline has a connection to Jacks… which I believe is stronger than true love to start his heart, but to break the archer/fox curse that has kill almost everyone he’s loved (Donatella being the exception).

Within the first 20 pages we are told that Jacks is her greatest heartbreak…

And then the motif continues once Evangeline gets to the North and well well well… the evidence is overwhelming. Not only is Jacks her biggest heartbreak (the past of his curse killing those he loved and the loss of her memory in the last book) but he is also her true love.

—-this we already know, but Evangeline will not… she will smell and taste the apples with a hinting sensations of love and affection but will not know what it means…

BUT

WHAT DO THE APPLES MEAN!??!?? To jacks.

truly I believe that since the apples taste like true love, they curb his instincts of kissing people to kill them- because all the fates can’t fight their feelings. So Jacks obsession with apples is just another form of his love for love but also his restriction to love anyone. Maybe he knows the apples taste like Evangeline…and that’s why “she’s better off not knowing” - to save her from kissing him and dying…

HIS IMPULSES BEING EVANGELINE??? I’ll die.

And lastly… Evangeline’s association with apples also causes… impulses too…

So, Apollo’s hatred of apples will send little alarm bells going off in her head/gut on her true feelings and memories. Maybe after coming into contact with Jacks again she’ll realize something is drawing her to him…
