Peculiar Flag

The colors of the flag represent all the books in the peculiarverse. These are the colors of the covers of each book and the symbols that represent each series. The green line in the middle represents the tales, and the museum is included in the black part.

sometimes i forget just how tragic of a character hugh apiston is. 😭 😭 in my head he's just this cheerful, silly guy. .. until i remember he fell into alcoholism after the alleged "death" of his girlfriend, drove himself crazy trying to search for her, only to watch all of his friends give up hope that she is still out there. not to mention the implications of him struggling with gender roles / toxic masculinity, so while he was going through all of this, he still felt obligated to not cry in front of the others, or show his emotions. :(( ughhh

and he was only 16?? maybe 17???? i could not even imagine. poor guy

but i think that is one of the main reasons hugh is one of my favorite characters. while he is more of a minor character, he is just so so layered. i do wish we got to see much more of him in the series </3

he did one time make a very dumb joke to an ungendered but potentially male guard in tcotb 😭 he was patting him down for weapons or something and enoch went “no kiss first?” Or something

Today I'm going to start reading the latest book by mphfpc.

My only question is: did Jacob forget his brain in the library of souls in the third book? I've never seen so many stupid decisions being made as at the end of TCOTB

Emma Bloom HCs

- She has a heart locket with a picture of herself and Abe inside. She couldn’t bring herself to replace his picture or put it away when she started to date Jacob. Only after she finally began to get over him (post TDoDA) she put it in a keepsake box in her closet and hasn’t thought of it since.

- Her breakup with Jacob made her reflect a lot on how obsessed she was with Abe which is how she began to finally get over him. She ended up discovering she was pan after falling in love with a preppy popular girl at Jacob’s school who she’s been dating ever since.

- She became a professional photographer in both the modern and peculiar world, making a living in both worlds. Her girlfriend helped her set up a social media account to get more traction; her first photos that went viral were of photoshoots of her girlfriend and she’s been living off commission since. In the peculiar world she helps document fellow peculiars.

- Emma was always in charge of Miss Peregrine’s photo album and was the one who took photos of all the children (Abe took the photo of herself for her).

- When she fled home she didn’t have any belongings, therefore nothing to remember her sister by. After all these years she’s forgotten her voice and her face, and she sometimes cries at night trying to piece her back together in her mind. She and Millard once tried to find records or any information of Julia but they never found anything, which plagues her mind.

- Noor and Emma’s girlfriend drastically helped Emma warm up to modern fashion. She finally developed her own fashion sense, mostly consisting of sundresses, floral crop tops and baggy jeans. She’s a fan of the preppy-hipster style of dress to her girlfriend’s more bra top and leggings style of preppy.

- As often as they fight, she sees Enoch as the younger brother she never had and loves him dearly. It never occurred to her that he felt the same until she realized how concerned he was over her (towards the end of TCoTB) and she started to be more patient with his attitude (though she never hesitates to call him out on bs).

- She loves birds and owned a pet canary once, but after she accidentally burned his wing with her pinky, she decided that all pets were off the table and set him free, though she still misses him dearly and loves all animals in general.

- While she disliked and felt very jealous towards Noor at first, after they began to hangout, she grew to saw Noor as a good friend. The two, along with Bronwyn, Fiona, (and later Emma’s girlfriend), all hang out together as often as they can, usually shopping or going on walks (or pranking the boys). They love having girl’s nights with Claire and Olive (Horace tags along occasionally) and sleepovers in each other’s rooms (though Miss Peregrine makes sure Emma and her girlfriend sleep separately much to Emma’s annoyance).

The way Millard talks about Fiona in AMOD is the most insensitive thing ever. Millard does it because he IS like that. Enoch is not like that. Enoch is like a pre-teen who thinks it's cool to be sarcastic and sometimes annoying. He knows what he's doing, so much so that on several occasions in the books he leaves this personality aside. He was the first to make Fiona laugh in TCOTB, and in the same book he comforted Hugh. Jacob even says that Enoch was a good person, he just tried hard to be a jerk. And I will never forget Enoch using his dolls to cheer up little Esme who was hiding inside the bathtub, it was the sweetest and kindest thing he ever did.

Which is not the case with Mill, whenever he is an asshole, he does it because he wants to, because that's how he is, it's not with the intention of being annoying, it's him being himself. I like the character, but the fact that he has several moments of being a complete jerk is undeniable. I wanted to slap him in the face in AMOD.

Okay so! I don't think the mphfpc fandom realizes how much of a dick Millard really is

He's more of a dick than Enoch is, Enoch puts on this stupid mean guy persona when he really isn't, we see how Enoch does care about others, like how he tried comforting Hugh about Fiona while Millard was telling him to get over it. Though in the books Jacob does say he doesn't seem to understand or know how to handle others emotions or know when something emotional is going on, but I feel like if ransom actually built up on these characters flaws he would have overcome that and have become more aware of others.

Also the fact that Millard never said he was sorry to Hugh about the stuff he said is just childish. The other kids and miss p have told Millard to stop being rude but he just continues this childishness antics.

Though I do headcanon Millard as Autistic and he doesn't know how to deal with people it kinda makes sense for his rudeness.

(Millard is my favorite character and I'm even dissing him like that shows how much of an ass he really is)

The ymbrynes at the Conference

When Miss Peregrine says that the ymbrynes stayed in the trees, that's exactly how I imagine it happened.

the idea of Myron saving nim from a bad situation and that’s the reason he’s so devoted to him makes his brain turning to mush after he “dies” so sad 😭

hopefully he becomes un-mush after the ymbrynes start taking care of him, like they got some peculiar therapists

Completely forgot to post that here, but hellooo I read The Extraordinary Disappointments of Leopold Berry at some point at the end of last/beginning of this year. I have some things to say about it

All these notes are from beginning of January

First of all, I liked it and I’m thrilled for the next one. Wouldn’t say that it’s my new favourite thing, but it was still pretty good

Mixed feelings about the government and Sunder PD

Wish we would have seen another Noxum?

Why did they make them seem like such a big threat if the only ones we saw was the big one Leopold had to fight (which they were obviously keeping there to test people who want to prove themselves as channellers. So hm 🤨) and the little one the pest control people caught. Basically what if Noxum aren’t that evil. Like maybe Leopold should go to the ninth realm or whatever it’s called and pet them. Give them little treats. Also I hope we see the ninth realm in the future :3

Not related to Noxum. But why are people eating magic. Like I know why, but having read the MPHFPC series eating magic (in that case SOULS) is considered taking drugs and a form of cannibalism 😭😭 so something about that makes me suspicious idk

Also Leopold getting straight up banished?? And then two Sunder cops tried to kill him and Isabel?? I know corrupt cops exist (which just supports my theory about the government being maybe not so great) but geeez. But then Executive Ramirez was sitting there at the hospital at the end, so I don’t know? Still don’t know how to feel though

This one more thing I just left as “Similarities to MPHFPC series” in my notes, so I don’t remember a whole lot. Only that Sunderworld has these veiled places that sound an awful lot like loops, which I am not complaining about, just makes me go hmmm. Oh yeah now I remember, people in Sunderworld are called sparks and people outside of it are called slacks or something? Sparks = peculiars, slacks = normals. Hmmmmmmmm

Anyway here’s some more things straight out of the book

The walls have ears in both Sunderworld and peculiardom

Had to point this one out, there’s quite a few Wizard of Oz references in TDoDA/basically TCoTB too

Did you know Richter means judge in German

Riggs putting ”Herr” (Mr.) in front of his name just further tells me that the name was intentional. It’s quite fitting after all

also sorry for this being like A MONTH LATE life has been crazy recently .

- golden retriever x black cat vibes

- hugh often teases her. he’ll do stuff that he knows gets her annoyed — like pinching her cheeks, ruffling her hair, picking her up, etc ..

- to get revenge, fiona will often do the same. steals his cap off his head and hide it someplace he won’t find it.

- they dislike pda. hugh of course gets embarrassed and fiona is simply shy. the two often go to a secluded place if they want to show affection

- speaking of, hugh is often the one to initiate affection/ be clingy. but whenever fiona sneaks a quick kiss he gets all flustered

- she finds it really cute :))

- i know many people imagine that they never argue/get into fights, but i feel like they’ve been together for so long that they act like an old married couple

- they bicker over the SMALLEST things

- the other kids will see hugh all grumbly, swearing under his breath while pacing, and fiona making a point to sit away from him at breakfast and they are like “oh no what happened this time..”

- then in a few hours they see them holding hands and sharing jokes like nothing happened

- fiona can hold a grudge, but hugh gets really sad and can’t stand it. usually too prideful to outright apologize, but he’ll approach her and try to make her smile/laugh

- she forgives easily cause secretly she was also missing him

- big height different . fiona is on the shorter side and hugh is around like 6 feet LOL

- they steal each others clothes. fiona wears his jumpers and hugh wraps himself in her shawls

- so we know hugh hates showing emotion in front of others and bottles things up , but fiona is the one person he feels comfortable opening up to.

- when he’s crying, or just in a bad mood, she’ll hold him, shower him in kisses, and eventually let him fall asleep on her lap or cuddle

- then whenever fiona gets her nightmares or struggles with her ptsd from the famine, he will do the same!!

- his bees adore fiona. they’ll often bury themselves in her hair or land on her face (i saw someone else hc this a while back & i think its sooo adorbs. creds to them! 💗)

- hugh is super protective..but like sometimes in a very corny way. “if you wanna mess with her you have to get through me first!!!” ahh relationship 😭😭

- sometimes, the villager men from carinholme would try and flirt or be creepy with fiona (ew) , and hugh would be lividdd. he’d send his bees to sting them like any protective boyfriend would

- i like to imagine that fiona starting falling for him first, and hugh was oblivious for a while until he eventually fell even harder

- they were just friends at that time. fiona never liked a boy before, or even had the concept of what a crush was so she was very confused as to why she’d start to sweat/panic and blush profusely anytime hugh talked to her

- fiona got really insecure about her looks after tcotb . when she returned, i imagine that she was battered/bruised all over, extremely malnourished, and very sickly looking. she didn’t even recognize herself in the mirror

- but hugh reassured her that he found her beautiful anyways 💗and he did everything in his power to prove that to her :)

(Edit: mild mild spoilers for after TMOD)Here are some domestic mphfpc headcanons for when they're in-between the chaos:

when enoch is collecting specimens and organs millard sometimes tags along and they discuss anatomy science in-depth together

fiona teaches whoever's willing to basket weave (horace is first to learn, olive doesnt have the attention span, millard already taught himself eons ago, bronwyn becomes obsessed and has made 5 already)

Fiona knows how to sketch,, really really well. Hugh volunteers to pose for her whenever he sees her drawing.

Fiona and Horace often make paint and fabric dye together naturally made from her flowers

Millard is almost never in the house. I think we already knew this but he knows just about everyone in the Acre, peculiar or not. And he's good friends with most.

Horace also volunteers to model for Fiona, she loves sketching his ootd, and sometimes she draws new clothing designs and horace attempts to sew it for her

Sorry, I'm really pushing it with the whole "Fiona draws" thing, but she 100% makes paper dolls for claire too

Hugh has found some very weird bugs, and was able to see some of the famous moth evolution which happened at the time of the acre, (yk the one where they went from white to peppered bc of the smog), and immediately told millard about it

Though usually Miss Peregrine is in Bentham's former house on business, when she is at the wards' house she attempts to give any lessons she can to the kids.... mostly fencing which olive, after some time arguing whether she's old enough to do it or not, is kind of ridiculously great at (they stick lard at the sword tips, so it's perfectly safe)

Enoch, who usually cares less for anything other than sleeping, pacing, or organizing.. organs... has taken up writing witty, smart-ass journal entries. Noone knows this except millard, who is pleasantly surprised of how good a writer he is.

Bronwyn occasionally goes on supply runs outside the Acre, (pre-ymbryne shield) and has secretly found a hobby in reading ya fiction and new age classics. she sometimes accidentally references a story in casual conversation and noone knows what she's on about

Millard, on a supply run, somehow found a portable, battery operated record player and some records at a music store that Lily recommended through the email system outside the acre at the library. (He's not supposed to be contacting her because of the Noor situation, but what's the harm for non-peculiar related conversation? )

Olive is not-so-subtly having an Ancient Greece phase

Millard has adopted a poisonous toad from the Ditch

Claire found a stringy German Shepard that only listens to her and now is... Even more threatening than before...

Logically, Fiona and Hugh are older than Miss Peregrine herself. The thought of this confuses me.

However, in TCOTB, when Ellery ages rapidly, the ymbrynes give her a liquid that slows down the aging process. The ymbrynes probably know how to produce these drinks that slow down aging. And Enoch, Hugh and Fiona probably took them daily as a remedy to prevent aging. In LOS, Perplexus begins to age in Devils Acre, as he is from a time older than that loop. He was probably aging so fast because no one gave him this drink that slows down aging.

I also think that the older a person is, the more of this liquid they need to drink daily to stop their aging. Being in a time loop should help with the process, but taking this liquid is not optional, if a peculiar like Enoch doesn't take it he will age.

Something doesn't make sense.

In the first mphfpc book Enoch says he's actually 108/110 because he's from a different loop.

In Hollow City, Hugh says Fioana was from some time in the 1840s. (And so is he I think).

But in Desolations of Devil's Acre, Miss Peregrine says the loop had to be at least 100 years old or else people would start aging up.

Miss Peregrine's loop was on 1940. How did time not catch up with Enoch or Fiona?
