“Home sweet home,” Nesta heard Cassian murmur. She hadn’t dared look at the ground during their long flight, but at his words – and the feeling of magic passing over her skin as they passed over some kind of barrier – she risked looking down to see what all the fuss was about.

Even Nesta could begrudgingly admit the sprawling city before her was beautiful. She could make out all sorts of colorful, tall buildings from this high up, including a large residence that seemed carved out of the rock it was attached to. A sparkling river cut wound through the city like a snake, and she tracked its path to the nearby sea, already thinking about whether it would be possible to board a ship and go to the continent from here.

Not likely, the logical part of her mind told her. She’d studied many maps of Prythian to attempt to learn this strange land, and even though this city hadn’t appeared on any of the ones about the Night Court, she knew it was the northernmost Court. Unless she planned to sail north until she reached the human lands, getting from here to the continent likely wouldn’t be worth all that time at sea.

Cassian set a path straight for the mountainous residence, so all Nesta had to do was keep her grip on him as they sailed to a smooth landing on one of the balconies. No one was waiting for them, but the moment the bat’s wings stopped flapping, she launched herself out of his arms and stumbled away from him.

“I couldn’t have been that bad,” Cassian muttered loud enough for her to hear. Nesta was too busy reacquainting herself with solid ground to care about his hurt feelings.
